I tried {=search(A4,E4:G16)} where A4 is in cell F10 but returns Value error.

Lookup Function To Lookup For Data In Another Table
Jul 29, 2008I am trying to use lookup function to lookup for data in another table (we call it table A). Unfortunately, whenever the code is not in the table A, Excel will return the data from the previous row.... is there any possible way to prevent this... in another word, if the code does not exist in the table A, I want Excel to return 0 or some other figures.

For example, when I enter "a" in the first input cell(input letter) and "1" in the next(input number), I get the result("a1"). However when I input "a" in the first and "2" in the second, the result just shows a blank cell, and so forth.

Changing Data In Lookup Table?
May 26, 2014 I am creating, essentially, a product order form (actually a shopping list creator for my wife). Containing 'Quantity', 'Product Name' and 'Price'. When I enter the product name via a drop-down list, the price is displayed using vlookup.... no problem so far.
My problem is... or should I say, my desire is, that when the vlookup price is displayed, if I (my spouse) know the current price to be different from the one retrieved from the lookup table, I would like to post the new price and modify the data in the lookup table so that any future requests for that item will reflect the new price.

Lookup Returning Data For A Value That Is Not In Table
Apr 26, 2013I have a pretty large table,(153,000 rows) My lookup_value is a 7 digit number. If my lookup_value isn't in the lookup_vector, it should return "#N/A" (which it does most of the time) but I noticed it was returning a result when the lookup_value didn't exist...it didn't exist anywhere in the table.

Apr 28, 2007I have a lookup table which needs to be able to retrieve data from columns as well as rows and not sure if this is possible.
My data is set up with an ID number, financial year and data across the columns e.g

My lookup table will have the ID number field which will be manually entered to lookup the information on the data sheet. e.g

FY Apples Pears

2005/6 7 8
I can't work out a way to get excel to only give me the number of apples and pears for that year for that ID number. Not all ID numbers will have the same number of financial years so I may need to use VBA.

True/false With Lookup List/pivot Table Data
May 15, 2009I want to compare a hand entered data sheet to my system data. System data is exported in. Then that data is used to populate a pivot table. I use a lookup list that fills in matching data from my hand typed sheet. From there I want to use true/false to see if the data matches. However, the formula will not copy down. I am sure it has to do with the formula holding a value, but I can’t seem to correct it.

Example worksheet: On the worksheet you can see that the true false statements are incorrect. The system data and the hand entered data match two times not once.

Formula To Lookup Data In A Vertical Format And Place In A Table
Mar 17, 2009I have a RAW DATA work sheet that has data of electricity consumption for a given week but it is in a vrtical table.
I have many other work work sheets in the workbook that I require to look at the RAW data and the return the correct information in the specified cells
I need the store number that is in cell F1 of each sheet and the Date on each sheet that are on Row4 of each sheet to Look up and match the information in ROW1 for the store number and columnA for the dates.
then in columnB of RAW DATA I have time intervals of 30mins which need to match up with the time intervals on the sheets and display the readings from the RAW data on the sheets.

Lookup: Pull Any Color Choices Associated With A Year From The Data Table On The First Worksheet
Jun 17, 2009I have a data table that contains begin dates, end dates, and colors. The data is input starting with the earliest begin date. On a second worksheet, I have a listing of the years starting with the year of the first begin date and ending with the end of this year. I need to be able to pull any color choices associated with a year from the data table on the first worksheet. Some years may not be specifically listed in the data sheet as the person could have had the same color choice for several years. Sometimes a person could have more than one color choice in a year.
I am at a loss for how to get to the data I need. I created an example spreadsheet to demonstrate the data I am working with, and an example of what I need my results to look like in the end.

I am trying to sort out territories for a state I work on; the territories are divided up by zip codes.
i.e.

and what I want is to say put a formula in cell B3 on Sheet 1 pointing to cell C3 that has zip code 33333. I want it to then take that and look in Sheet 2 and search A1:D3 and when it finds 33333, return "territory 2" back to cell B3 on Sheet 1.

Feb 28, 2013Using VBA, I am running code that filters the data in my column "Account" on my main sheet, creates a new sheet for each account in that column then copies the filtered data to the new sheet. There will always be the same list of Accounts with the exception that there might not be data for one or more.
In that case, I still need it to create a new sheet with the account name but just have some text stating "no data available for his account".
I can find code to search if a specific sheet name exists but, in my case, I don't know which one won't have data at run time.
I was hoping I could put a static list of the expected sheet names into an array and loop through that list and create the sheet for any that it can't find.
My list: FTL, DTB, CAR, BLD, RSG, STS

Mar 23, 2009I tried both IF and LOOKUP and failed. I'm trying to search for values from one worksheet and identify whether or not those values exist in another worksheet. I attempted the following lookup in field A2:
=LOOKUP(B2,Sheet3!A$2:A$914,Sheet3!C$2:C$914)
B2 (thru B5000 or so) contains values I want to search for; sheet3!A$2:A914 is where I want to look and column C of that same sheet, entered the text "Yes" in an attempt to have the results list "Yes" for hits and N/A for misses. (All fields are text.) I copied the formula all the way down the sheet in column A. The result it is returning is N/A in A2 and Yes in A2 -to the bottom, which is incorrect.

Each sheet contains also:
State - D1
Role - D2
Staff ID - D3
Date - D4
Activity group name in column A (starting from row 8)
Activity type in column B (merged with C and D) (starting from row 8)
Activity time in columns E:GV (starting from row 8). Usually, there is none or only one value in whole range (e.g. E8:GV8). But sometimes there are two values.
Customer ID in row 6 (value appears only if time was reported in E:GV range)
CC Number in row 7 (value appears only if time was reported in E:GV range)
It's all about transferring values from all daily sheets in all files (.xls) sitting in folder C:WADFinal to one simple table (WAD_Consolidation_file.xls, sheet "Consolidated") consisted of 9 columns: Staff ID, Role, State, Date, Activity Group, Activity Type, Minutes, Customer ID, CC Number.
Additional note if two values exist in the same row they should be copied as two separate entries to consolidation file.
Lookup Table In VBA Rather Than VLookup Table?
Nov 23, 2011I get a file every day that contains online orders for a client. They have made the state and country fields on the order form free text, so sometimes the State field has CA, sometimes California, sometimes even Cal or Cali. Oregon may be represented as OR, Oregon, or Ore (and one time even Orygon.)
The country field may have US, USA, United States and sometimes United States of America.
Well, they need this data imported to their system with the states fully spelled out: Oregon, California. And the country spelled out as well: United States, Canada.
Right now I have a lookup tables worksheet that I just have a macro run a vlookup on. But I'd like to know if there is a way I could just put it all in the code, without the external tables.
i.e. some code that, in English, would basically say, "If the value of any cell in column K is among these values, replace it with those values, otherwise just leave it as it is". Could I do that while containing the two sets of values right in the code rather than on a worksheet?
I really just want to replace the standard abbreviated state/country codes with the full text, and if the value does contain Cali or Ore, let them manually make the change. Hopefully that will finally nudge them to just make the online order form utilize a drop-down list of states and countries, rather than free text.

Using the LARGE function, Excel has created a list based on batting averages(on a separate sheet called Line-up). It looks like this.....

The problem I am having is figuring a way for Excel to also bring the corresponding names (after using the LARGE function to create the line up list).
