I have dynamic number in K2. How to make numbering list whose length is based on that K2 number? I want that list to start from A2. So, in other words, if K2=3, the list should be like this:

empty (cause my header will be there)
1.
2.
3.
Notice that there should be period after each number too.
I have got 2 sheets:
- list (list of transactions)
- accepted (accepted transactions).
I want to make macro, which will:
1. select max value from sheet.accepted "B:B"
2. enter max value +1 in sheet.list "B8"
3. automatic fill down from B9 to the end of list with number increasing by 1 (in B9=B8+1, in B10=B9+1 etc.)

I need to have a formula to automate the adding of outline numbers from "Level 1, Sublevel 1, Item 1..." So that if I deleted or added a row, the rest will automatically update themselves.
I will be the one manually inputing the Top Level and Sublevels I just need that the Items will be automatically added and computed basing from the previous level.
What I am planning to do is:
1. Check previous cell if the format has two decimal points or periods --> kinda stuck here
2. If there's only one then it will be the Sublevel 1 Item 1 (or depending to its location)
3. If there's already two periods "." then it will compute automatically for what item it is already.
ie:

1.1.1
1.1.2----->Checks the previous cell if it has 2 decimal places then if it does then it will add 1
I've attached a spreadsheet showing the effect I'm trying to achieve. A list (which changes weekly) contains employee details and length of service. Based on the length of service I need to build a new list grouping the employees based on the service length.

I have a spread sheet that has three sheets, PROJECTS - TIMES - LISTS Time sheet.xlsx PROJECTS contains a list of 'In Progress' and 'completed' projects for work, with relevant other data, I.e. PROJECT No. / STATUS etc This will grow to 1,000's of rows TIMES will contain the amount of time a person spends on a PROJECT on a daily basis. This will grow to 10,000's of rows LISTS contain basic validation list for the first 2 sheets.
Part A
I would like to have a validation drop down list for the PROJECT NO column in the TIMES sheet that only lists the PROJECT NO from the PROJECTS sheet where STATUS <> COMPLETED. I.e. I only want to display the PROJECT NO's for current projects.
Part B
Even though I only want the PROJECT NO used, can the drop down list also contain other column's data for reference information only before one is selected.
My objective is to automate the creation of a dynamic top-5 list by summing a number related to multiple entries of an item (text string). Data are added monthly and while the textual strings (imported) are constant (text1 always reads as text1) the text strings themselves may vary from "text1" to "text2", etc. What I'm trying to achieve is finding the top-5 five items and copy/paste them to a range on the same worksheet. The range into which they are pasted are source cells for DSUM criteria. The frequency with which a text string appears is not critical, but the associated count is.

When setting up a Direct Debit There are 3 options, the 7th, 17th and 27th. I've put these into a drop down list. I need this list to be slightly dynamic. I must allow 10 working days from the date of the arrangment before I can apply the DD.
To explain further. If someone were to want to set up a DD and spoke to me today. If they then requested the DD be taken on the 7th, I wouldn't be able to set it up until the 7th of December as 10 working days are required. I'd like the list to reflect this. I can do it in OO with a simple if / switch but excel is a strange creature and I'm not sure how to approach the problem.
From that I think I also need to calculate the number of weeks remaining in the current financial year. I think I should be able to do this by using the Today() function and some maths.
I'm trying to make a sequential resultlist starting with nr 1, 2, 3, etc under the column: Rank ? This should be part of a macro, so autofill is not an option... As you can see, the number of rows are different from each group, and starts with nr 1 for every group. (Some formatting became all wrong posting this.........
View 5 Replies View RelatedI would like to generate a dynamic list of employees on sheets based on information on Sheet A. Here is my workbook structure:
-Sheet A contains all employees information (Name, division, salary hire date, etc)
-Sheet B is named Div A
-Sheet C is named Div B
-Etc...
Here is what I want to happen:
-Sheets B should pull the employees name and salary from sheet A only for employees of division A
-Sheet C should pull the employees name and salary from sheet A only for employees of division B
-Etc..
Sheet B, C , etc. should update the info and resort every time sheet A is updated.

What I'm trying to replicate in column A is similar to the live bullet point numbering that can be found in Word documents where if a line is deleted the section numbering (think bullet points in Word) automatically fall into line and update i.e what was 1.4 automatically becomes 1.3 and so on.
So far I've tried the simple formula of = cell above +0.1 which works fine until i have to remove lines.
The context of my question is "Invoice Numbering".
I would like to have a sheet where I can have an incremental number. Every time I run the macro it should strikeout the last number and it provides me an incremental number.
I used such a sheet in a previous job and I cannot find it online.
I have a list of 48 000 zeros and ones (0 and 1s) (and 12 separate lists).
If there is a 1 then I will return a zero.
If there is a zero then I need to find the next 1 and return the 'distance' to that 1.
For example

The first zero will have to return 4, the second 3 etc.
I have tried using Match(1,[ range],0) but this takes for ever to run.
I could write a udf to do this but figure that it would have to be based on a loop.
In the mean time I will implement the udf.
I have a column that is listing steps in multiple processes. I have each step 1 marked with a number 1 and would like to have a macro run that will read the column and when it sees a 1 move down to the next row and insert a 2, 3, 4, etc. until it hits the next 1 and then repeat the process. I am unsure how to build this as I am just starting to learn some VERY basic VB scripting.

I have a range which will change in size & in content, & I want this to be a Named Range at whatever size it is.
Reason I want to is because I want to make a Validation List with this dynamic range. I also want a Validation list which lists the content of 2 or more dynamic ranges which may or may not be on the same worksheet - is this possible?
i.e.
First dynamic range: called "Milestones" at A11
Second dynamic range: called "Activities" at A25
& make a Validation list that will list content of both
I have created a macro that processes through information for the creation of checks.
I would like to have a way for the user to input a check number, and Excel to take that number, drop it into cell A2, then increment it and drop the next number in A3, and so on until all of the checks have been numbered. The process should stop at such a point as there is no more text in column B.
Here is an example. Let's say I have 35 checks to write. The first check number is 200. I would want a user box to pop up which asks me for the first check number. I would enter 200. Then the process would place the number 200 in cell A2 (A1 is part of the header information for the checks.) In cell A3, the number 201 would be placed. The final check number would drop into cell A36. No check numbers would appear in cells A37 and greater because cell B37 is empty, signifying that there is no further check data.

Is there a formula that would search for rows, or cells withing a row, that contain information and populate consecutive numbers in an adjacent column. For example if I am working with rows 1-4... F1 and F4 has information populated, while F2 and F3 are blank. I would like for the formula to populate E1 with the number 1 and E4 with the number 2. So the formula should decipher that F2 and F3 are blank therefore ignore these rows in the consecutive number scheme for column E. I would like for the formula to be scalable to any number of rows

I needed to add two new columns to the table, "Focus Area" and "Category". I need a drop down list in the "Category" column to be dependent on the item selected from a drop down menu in "Focus Area".
I can get the first row of the dynamic table to do this.... however; subsequent rows all lock the drop down list in the "Category" column to the same choices regardless of what is chosen in the "Focus Area" list.
Is there a way to make dynamic drop downs within a dynamic table?
I have a new list of Serial Numbers that were given to me in an Excel file. The original source of the data was an AS400 database.
I wanted to "Find" some of these numbers in another list that I already had (List B). So I selected a cell in the new list, and pressed Ctrl-C. I then selected all of List B, opened the Find dialog box and used Ctrl V to paste in the Serial Number to find. The problem was that Excel said it could not find the Serial Number, even though I knew there is a match, and could see the number it should have found.
So I pasted the number I was searching on into an empty cell. When I checked the length, it was one character longer than expected. It turned out that that there was an extra leading space. I could delete this space in the cell, but not in the Find dialog box.
Also, when I selected the number in the cell, and this time highlighted it all, then copied it, and then pasted it into Find, the Find worked! In other words, it only didn't work when I did Ctrl C without selecting/highlighting the text.
I have a numerical value in cell B2 , and a drop list that contains unit names.
I am looking for VBA to see which unit is selected in the drop list, and then add B2's value to that particular unit's total.

I have a sheet which details specific card numbers in Column A, and the date and place of transaction in the Column B. This very long list contains multiple entries for each card number. What I would like to do is use Sheet2 to list each card number and the number of times it appears in the list.
