Sort Records In Spreadsheet
May 10, 2007
I am using vb6 and I need to Sort records in spreadsheet based on items in column 7. Actually, I want to sort the spreadsheet before executing the count process below. Note: the code below works perfectly, I just need to sort the spreadsheet before counting.
Selection.Subtotal groupBy:=7, Function:=xlCount, TotalList:=Array(7), _
PageBreak:=False, SummaryBelowData:=True
In otherwords, I want to sort the records based on the 7 column before executing the above routine.

I have a column of data that is an 850,000+ list of phone numbers. I need to peridoically insert another 10,000+ at a time and see if there are duplicates. Using conditional formatting to highlight the duplicates with a colored cell, and then sorting those records to the top is what I want to do, but it's too much for Excel to handle, and it hangs. It looks like I need to break up the 850k records into smaller chunks. Anyone know what an average pc with Excel 07 can handle? It's a 2.8ghz w/2gb ram.

I have some data that looks like this.
No. Date
1519
1519 06/17/2003
1601
1652 06/30/2005
1652
1705
1705
What I would like to do is delete all numbers including those with duplicates that have a date of 2004 or sooner. In otherwords, anything from 12/31/2003 and later I want to keep, but anything from 01/01/2004 until the present.

I have data records that are 3 rows long by 18 columns (A thru R) wide. People's 1st names only exists in the 1st row, 2nd column (B) of each record. The 1st record starts on row 5.
I need a VBA procedure that when run, it will sort the data alphabetically by the 1st row, 2nd column (B) of each data record. The 3 line data records looks like this starting on row 5:
________A__|_____B___|____C____|___D___|___E___|___F___|___G___|___H___etc
1st row _18_|_John____|_730-6853_, etc
2nd row ____|_Doe____|_238-4835_, etc
3rd row_____|_Sales___|_328-4893_, etc
1st row _32_|_Jack____|_684-3812_, etc
2nd row ____|_Jones___|_232-4954_, etc
3rd row_____|_MFG____|_238-5355_, etc
1st row _18_|_Jimmy___|_485-2294_, etc
2nd row ____|_Smith___|_223-9110_, etc
3rd row_____|_Maint___|_368-6381_, etc
If only above 3 records exists, when sorted Jack's record starts on row 3, Jimmy's record starts on row 6, John's record starts on row 9, etc
We can have as many as 15 records (3 lines long) that goes thru row 49.

I have around 50,000 records in a data file within which groups of records are contained in blocks delineated by date/time. e.g.;
A B C D E
10/03/2008 13:15 a 100.0
10/03/2008 13:15 b 2.8
10/03/2008 13:15 c 50.5
10/03/2008 13:15 d 8.6
10/03/2008 13:15 e 32.5
10/03/2008 13:25 75.2 <-----Time change
10/03/2008 13:25 5.5
10/03/2008 13:25 16.5
10/03/2008 13:25 3.5
etc
As you can see, while the file is ordered by date/time in Column A, the values in column E are randomly ordered.
My objective is to maintain date time order but sort the values in Column E into an ascending order within each block. So, for example, using the details above I would want it to look like;
A B C D E
10/03/2008 13:15 b 2.8
10/03/2008 13:15 d 8.6
10/03/2008 13:15 e 32.5
10/03/2008 13:15 c 50.5
10/03/2008 13:15 a 100.0
10/03/2008 13:25 3.5 <-----Time change
10/03/2008 13:25 5.5
10/03/2008 13:25 16.5
10/03/2008 13:25 75.2
Note that there is data in columns B to D which would need to be sorted in line with Column E. So, all records in the block, cols A to E are sorted to give the above order for each time block.
My problem is that I'm not sure whether a basic sort can do the job or whether a macro is needed. I'm using Excel 2003.

I have a ListObject table called Table1, and the column name is Table1[Company]. The records have been sorted A-Z for the Company.
The records look something like this
Date Employee Company
-------------------------------------------
1/1/11 Jane A Company
1/1/11 Jane B Company
3/1/11 Bob B Company
2/1/11 Bob B Company
4/1/11 Bob B Company
5/1/11 Bob C Company
What I need is a sub() to look in the column of Table1[Company] and determine:
The # of records that match the criteria given the Company name, and where they start and end. Ultimately, I'd like to copy and paste this portion of the table to another spreadsheet.
So for instance, if the Company = "B Company", then I could find out there are 4 records and there locations to copy and paste them.

I am setting up a template to use to track candidates throughout their lifecycle. I am also creating a 'summary report' on another worksheet that counts total number of candidates, counts the number of candidates that have been submitted to the client, count of the number of candidates that have been interviewed by the client, etc.
How do I count the number of candidates in the spreadsheet?
In Cells A6:B5, I have "Submitted"
In Cells A7-?? I have dates for those candidates that have been submitted.
Then a new section titled, "In Process"
A list of candidates are contained within that section.
Then a new section titled, "For Review"
etc.
There are multiple sections, so the date in Column A1 may not always be in a constant row, as it depends on how many candidates are within a certain 'phase'.
I have a column I5, titled "Status" This column has a built in drop-down list that contains pre-defined status, for example, "Submitted", "Candidate Declined", "2nd Message Sent", etc. I need to be able to create a summary report based on a count of candidates that fit certain 'Statuses'. For example, count the number of candidates that were Interviewed. This could be a combination of Statuses: Phone screen with client, 1st F2F, 2nd F2F, etc.
(At home, I am using Excel 2003. At work, I am using Excel 2007. So if it's easier to create in Excel 2007, that's fine.)

I'm trying to learn how to do auto sort. I Know how to do the custom manual sort but it is taking to long to do my spreadsheet every night. I love to play the greyhounds but to manually sort 18 columns a race with 15 races each night takes a while there has to be a easier way.
here a sample of what I'm trying to do. The columns are in two C-D E-F G-H I-J and so on. The rows here are 7-14 as you see I have to sort some high and some low. Is this possible to do a auto sort for each set of columns
C---- D----------E------F--------G------H--------I------J
BEST-------------AVG-------------EARLY-----------LATE
SPEED-----------SPEED------------SPEED----------SPEED
BOX--LOW-------BOX--LOW------BOX----HIGH------BOX--HIGH
1----31.3-------1----31.47----- 1-----87.55------1-------0
2----31.2-------2-----31.69------2---- 51.53------2-----(-1
3----31.85------3-----31.95------3-------0--------3-------0

This is a sample of the data with which I am working. I know that a macro can do what I need, but I am only versed in Excel formulas and not that much programming. I need to be able to first sort the data by Column C ("Element Type"), then by Columns E, F, G ("Year", "Month", "Day"). Then, I need to be able to copy all rows that have the same "Element Type" and "Year" to a new file, using the same header from the original spreadsheet on each new spreadsheet - doing this multiple times until the end of the file is reached.
Ideally, the new files would have a strict naming convention: XXXXXX-ZZZZ (YYYY).xls, where the X's are the value of the "COOP Station ID" in Column A, the Z's are the "Element Type" from Column C, and the Y's are the "Year" from Column E. If this theoretical macro were run with the Sample Data file I provided, it should result in the creation of five new workbooks. Is there a way to write a macro to do this, or at least something similar

I have a list of files in folders.
When I make the index of those folder, i have an excel list with in column A these numbers
1.1.1.1 (so the file 1 in the 1st subsubfolder in the 1st subfolder in the first folder)
1.1.1
1.2.1.1
1.2.2
1.3.1
etc... The list goes on with 1000s rows.
And in column B I have the names of the files
Unfortunately, when i sort the spreadsheet with the number on column A, the order is not good....
So I would like to find a solution to sort things in the good order.

my spreadsheet attached, when you open it up you will see the tabs on the bottom, each of those tabs are departments.
This spreadsheet track all the jobs coming through my department, placed by other departments.
On the right hand side of each sheet are print numbers columns, and total hour columns.
at the end of a job I record how many hours the job took or how many dollars it cost. Then the job is close out and that line of information is sent to the archive page.
The archive page is where all the information is stored, print numbers hours and dollar amounts and so forth.
what I would like to do is, set up another sheet within the workbook that would sort all of the part numbers and associate them with hours or dollar cost.
I'd like to have it start the search when a new job is entered and I put the print number into a cell, in any of the department pages.

I have attached my particular spread sheet I an referring to.
I set up a spread sheet to write out all the material I buy to go into a product I make. I work my way through a layout diagram and type all my data in to a spread sheet, one row per item I need to buy.
Now I want to order everything. Is there a way to sort the spread sheet so it brings all my like items from Column A (item) together, so I Can count the quantity required to order?
I have tried to sort, but am worried I might be messing up the rows and column - all the row information must stay together for it to work.

I have a Spreadsheet with five columns. The column headings begins in rows 3 and 4(merged), these are Reg.#, Rank, First Name, Last Name and Station respectively.
The 5 row is used as a filter row. Therefore my Data Range is from A6:E505. So far I have input some data up to row 25.
Problem: Each time I input data I have to sort manually, I need a VBA Code to paste to automatically sort by Last Name even as I continue to input data in the other rows.

I can filter and sort by the properties and autosum to get the individual costings of properties, but I would like to be able to see the costings of each property on the main spread sheet once I have stopped filtering.

I’ve got a soccer spreadsheet with the names of six national teams. Near it, the small table that present current condition of a team. Under it, I created the small table where I want them to be sorted automatically by gathered points. The spreadsheet. For example:...............
I want the name of the team, who gathered maximum points, to be shown in first row. In the second row, must be shown the team which has the second result. There must be one formula that I can copy down. So I wrote the next formula
=MATCH(LARGE(A1:A9;ROWS($A$1:A1));A1:A9;0)
Everything was perfect until I saw that if the column has the same numbers (points) it returns the first matched row number. So I did the next
IF(COUNTIF($AD$4:$AD$9,LARGE($AD$4:$AD$9,ROWS($AD$4:AD4)))>1,MATCH(LARGE($Z$4:$Z$9,B12),$Z$4:$Z$9,0) +3,MATCH(LARGE($AD$4:$AD$9,B12),$AD$4:$AD$9,0)+3)..................

1. Sort data in Columns within an active spreadsheet
2. Create new Worksheets
3. Delete Values in rows based on value in Column.
I have listed my "Step by Step" instructions in the tblTest Excel file on attachment. The instructions are clear and straight to the point.
Below are some VB Macros I was experimenting with but it is not complete.
Sub Sort_Ascending_With_Header()
'Sorts a worksheet in ascending order and assumes there are headers on the data

I have a range of columns i.e. 23 columns (i.e. B through X). Someone can write records in these columns (starting from B21).
Duplicates are considered the rows with similar data in columns 3 and 11. I know about the removeduplicate method and works really well but i want the duplicates not to be removed. Instead another column shall be checked for date of entry (user will entry date in format dd/mm/yyyy). The newest entry will change the value of the cell in column 4 (islatest column)to TRUE while all other records will be FALSE. This will work with the filtering of data on a pivot table on another worksheet.

Book1 and Book2 are workbooks that I have modified in order to protect private information.
Book1 will have 11,000 records (my example Book1 has only 100). I need to rearrange Book1 such that it looks like Book2. Book2 has 20 complete records from Book1 combined into one single row, and my example Book2 has populated 3 rows only (3 rows x 20 records, making 60 records now appear on 3 rows only).
Macro for getting Book1 to Book2? 11,000 records in Book1 will take a lot of hours to transform into Book2 unless a macro can do the job for me.

Have a spreadsheet with 15 columns. In one of the columns is the name of the company and that column is not in alphabetical order. The city, state, zip code, business type and all the other pertinent data about that company is in the same row as the name of the company. My intent would be to put the company names in alphabetical order and keep all the company information in the same row as the company name.

Is it possible to make excel sort ascending or descending but from mid way through alphabet and then loop through the alphabet again. for example. If Cell A1 had "A" in, it would sort as normal.
Cell A1 = A
Cell A2 = B
Cell A3 = C
Cell A4 = D
Cell A5 = E
If Cell A1 had "C" in, it would sort from "C" through the alphabet and then loop to the start of the alphabet as shown below.
Cell A1 = C
Cell A2 = D
Cell A3 = E
Cell A4 = A
Cell A5 = B

I have attached a document paralleling a document I am working on. The dollar amount in each spreadsheet represent sales. I have entered in values into the candy, soda, and chips spreadsheet. I have also linked values for candy into the total spreadsheet. My question is can I somehow type something or drag the formula down to populate the other cells in the total spreadsheet?
The idea I am thinking but which I don't know how to implement is to list all the items (as in column G) and list all of the relevant cells (e.g. B1 in the Candy spreadsheet) as in columns H and I (Note that all items will have the same cells but the cells will have different values...e.g. all three items have a cell B1 and B2 in their spreadsheet but these cells contain different values). I then try and fail to create a formula in cell B3 of the Total spreadsheet. I am trying to create a formula of the following nature:
='(Spreadsheet Name From Column G)'!(Cell Name From Columns H and I)
The Second half of the formula doesn't really concern me (i.e. the cell name from column H and I). However I am perplexed as to how to achieve the goal in the first parentheses above.

I have two spreadsheets, one gives me the beginning and end of civil twilight as a measure of day vs. night. The spreadsheet has Date/Time in the first column, and the value 45 in the 2nd column when it is night. The second spreadsheet has also 2 columns with date/time and body temperatures of a squirrel. I want to get basic statistics (mean and standard deviation) of the squirrel's nocturnal body temperature, that is for times when it is night (value 45). The tricky part is that Date/Time of both spreadsheets are different. The procedure has to recognize that the date/time of body temperature lies between the beginning and end of the value 45 blocks of the first spreadsheet.

When I open as read-only and run my macros (testing), I save it as another file. When I then open the "template" to do the same thing, the toolbar/buttons now reference the file I previously saved as something else. Help please? Is there a macro that would delete all macros before saving the file as something else?
