Subtotal To Count Non-hidden Columns?

Mar 25, 2014

I have a linear count from 1 to 160 (J3:FM3) and I hide columns manually over time depending on a certain criteria. However, I would like to count how many columns I have left. I believe you need to use the subtotal function, but I do not understand how to use it.

Conditional Count Excluding Hidden Columns

Jan 22, 2008

I was wondering if was possible to create a conditional calculation excluding hidden columns.

For example in C4:HA4 the cells may have a number of values L, S, U etc.

When a user access the spreadsheet certain columns a hidden based on comparing their PC user ID to an access list in the workbook.

What I would like to be able to do would be to count the instances of L in C4:HA4 but exluding the hidden columns.

I'd hoped I might be able to use SUBTOTAL in a similar way to Domenic came up with here:

=SUMPRODUCT(SUBTOTAL(9,OFFSET(C2:C100,ROW(C2:C100)-ROW(C2),0,1)),--(C2:C100

Subtotal Function For Hidden Row

I have got a multisheets database where both rows and columns may be
hidden according to a given criteria. Only blanks rows and columns
should be hidden.

Now I need a formula to check if there is no "valuable" data hidden.

Checking test might be:
SUBTOTAL(9,reference) = SUBTOTAL(109,reference)

Hidden Cells And SUBTOTAL

If I have two columns of data, one for mortgage rate and one for loan size, then use a data filter to display a subset of the data, how can I calculate a weighted average on just the hidden cells? Is there any sort of criteria flag that looks for hidden cells in a range? Sort of the inverse of the SUBTOTAL function.

Ignoring Autofiler Hidden Rows With SUMPRODUCT And SUBTOTAL

Feb 18, 2009

I posted a thread a while back about how to ignore hidden rows from autofilter when using formulas. http://www.excelforum.com/excel-work...ml#post2039071

The solution worked perfectly. But I have since had to use this on another sheet which is laid out a bit differently, I have tried everything to try and modify the formula to work on the new sheet but so far I have failed miserably!! I need to do the exact same thing on this sheet - filter the sheet by week and search the data for certain criteria ('Line' and 'Fail Reason') and sum up the total quantity, while ignoring autofilters hidden rows. Here is an example of the sheet, along with an attempt of mine to modify the formula, which I think I have got TOTALLY wrong!

Change Sum To Count In Subtotal

Oct 6, 2008

I am working with some data that needs to be subtotalled. All the fields are subtotalled by sum, although 1 column needs to be count.

I was planning to do the subtotal (by sum) for all the data and then get the macro to go and change that 1 column to count.

My problem is that this will be a weekly report and the number of rows will vary, so how can I changet the sum to count without hardcoding the cell ref's?

Is there any way to add the number 0f rows in each subtotal? Count? I'm not sure how to go to each blank row (subtotal line) and count/add the number 0f rows in that subtotal?

Excel 2013 :: Unique Count In Group SubTotal

Apr 16, 2014

Using Excel 2013.

Is it possible to get a unique count in a group subtotal though the elements in the group may not be unique using Pivot Tables w/o resorting to Power Pivot?

Ex

Group 123
Group 456

Are both members of NorthDivision

If someone is in Group 123 for 9 months, then Group 456 for 3 months, that membership should be reflected in the correct group accordingly. However, that person should only be counted once in the NorthDivision, not twice.

Output:

Group 123 0.75
Group 456 0.25
NorthDivision 1

At first glance, it appears easy, however, what if membership is only total 3 months? Then Group would increment 0.25, but I need NorthDivision to increment 1

Subtotal With Condition (only Count Values Greater Than Zero When Data Is Filtered)

Oct 24, 2007

=SUBTOTAL(2,A2:A100) can be used in combination with any other formula so that when the data is filtered using autofilter it will only count values greater than zero.

I have attached a worksheet with the example.

In the attached workbook subtotal formulas are used in Row1 for sum and row 2 for count.
When the data is filtered using code "DUP" in column D, the subtotal in cell C2 is "4", whereas in the specified range there is a positive value in only 1 cell that is $1050 in cell C99.

Is there some combination that can be used with SUBTOTAL formula so that it will only count values greater than zero when data is filtered.

Excel Pivot - Subtotal On Inner Columns?

Nov 22, 2013

What I am trying to get is the distinct number of cost codes based on the budget codes.

Basically, when I do a regular pivot, I can see it gives me the 'COUNT OF CODE CODE' = 4 in the summary section, but, that seems to give me the number of records per Cost Code which is not what is needed but rather I would see a distinct # of codes codes based on budget code, and to boot, the subtotal should be directly under the Cost Code column.

Is that even possibly just using the pivot tools available in excel?

Can Add A Subtotal Of 3 Columns In A Pivot Table

Nov 22, 2013

I want to get a subtotal of columns B C and D in a pivot table. I have tried to add a calculated item to a pivot table to add columns B C and D. When I try adding a calcuted item I am getting an additional column inserted after columns B C and D. Each additional column has the previous column duplicated. I want a subtotal of column B C and D. I don't want to use the grand total function because I also have columns E through H that I don't want in the subtotal.

How can I get the columns B C and D subtotaled within the pivot table?

How Do I Count Non-hidden Rows

Nov 19, 2006

I need a formula for counting rows. It should achieve the following;

It should count in increments of 1 (1,2,3,4, etc.) in each cell in a column (column AW, to be prescise).

It should skip hidden rows.

It should account for the fact that a formula is able to reveal rows and when this is
done, the counting formula should adjust to count the newly revealed row.

It should also be able to do the opposite - another formula/macro hides rows, and when this happens it should not count the newly hidden row.

I can imagine a formula in each cell of the column that says "Check the previous column and if it is visible, add 1. If a hidden row is encountered, do not add 1. When a non-hidden row is encountered again, continue adding 1."

way to do this but i have a sheet that is into 5 - 6 thous rows, in one of the columns (names) i sort it by names and then order it by subtotal for certain values.

What i need to know, is there anyway i can take just the subtotal values out and put onto another spreadsheet without copying and pasting it all as there are lots of subtotals and this would help alot as the other info is not nec. just the subtotal'd info. either that or is there anyway i can highlight the subtotal'd row info in yellow/bold text anything like that that would make it stand out without having to do it manually?

Copy Without Hidden Columns

when I want to send by email I find I cannot copy these smaller sheets - every attempt at a copy will also copy the hidden columns.

How to copy a spreadsheet and NOT pick up the hidden columns?

I realise this might be nearly impossible or considered useless because no hidden columns would mean either making the copy with blank hidden columns or altering all formulas to suit a sheet which now does not have all the original columns.

Selecting Hidden Columns

Mar 19, 2009

I have a worksheet that currently has columns AB to XFB hidden. I want to unhide them, so I selected column AA and then drug the mouse over to the right (toward the empty space), intending to right-click and select "unhide". I do this all the time with no problems.

However, from the instant of my drag to the right, Excel has become totally unresponsive. I see it using 25% of my quad CPUs in task manager, but there is no active memory delta and it has been sitting for over 20 minutes now.

I'd rather not lose the work I just entered, but I can't seem to get Excel to come back to life by pressing escape or clicking in the worksheet. I've noticed slowdowns before when there is a lot of actual data in the cells selected, but these columns were empty to the best of my knowledge.

Maximum Hidden Columns

Oct 12, 2007

Is there a maximum amount of hidden columns within Excel? I have double-checked protection, and I have enough columns total for the action I'm attempting to do. I am using Excel 2003, and working on a rather large spreadsheet for a forecast. The basics of it is that I have macro's within buttons set-up so that users can hide columns and just view certain columns for approximately 30 columns per week and 5 weeks.
And I can run the hide macro's for up to 4 weeks at a time, but when attempting to hide the 5th week it gives me a "Run time error 1004" Unable to set the Hidden property of the Range class.
