in column a I have dates and in column b I have names.
eg

I am trying to count the number of instances of "Jenny" in January.

I have 1500+customer names in column C7 of table. I'm looking for a SUMPRODUCT formula that achieves the following 2 logical goals. First, it needs to determine the number of unique names in column C7. It can't just count the rows because many customers appear multiple times in the range. So, I have been using the following formula and it works great:
=SUMPRODUCT(
((Table[C7]<>"")/COUNTIF(Table[C7],Table[C7]&"")))
Second, I'd like the formula to tell me how many of the unique names in C7 correspond to public companies. Column C8 of my table indicates whether or not a company is public ("Yes") or private ("No"). So, I've been using the following formula and it seems to deliver the right result:
=SUMPRODUCT(
((Table[C7]<>"")/COUNTIF(Table[C7],Table[C7]&""))
*
(COUNTIFS(Table[C7],Table[C7]&"",Table[C8],"Yes")>=1))
But the added COUNTIFS statement seems very unwieldy and indirect to me. Why do I have to examine every instance of a particular company's name when the answer could be determined by looking at any instance of the name -- after all, each company in C7 is either public or private, and has the same corresponding value in C8 (whether "Yes" or "No") everywhere that its name appears in C7!
So that's my first question: is there a clearer, more efficient way to achieve the same result? My second question has to do with toggling the public company test.
What if I create a special cell, say A1, that will always contain either the word "On" or "Off"........
I want to count the number of unique, or distinct, company names in column [C7], subject to two conditions that will exclude certain unique company names from the count.
I should also point out that most company names appear multiple times in column [C7].
a) Count the unique company names in column [C7]...
b) ...including only those companies who have at least one "Yes" in column [C8] somewhere among their records
c) ...and who also have at least one value equal or greater than "1" in column [C15] somewhere among their records
Note that that there is no requirement that the "Yes" and the "1" ever appear in the same record.
I have two columns listing about 400 and 500 names respectively.
First Column has names in alphabetical order and the second column is random.
One column has names in this format: Last name, First name
And the other column lists the names as first name and then last name without the comma
I am trying to see if the list of names in one column exists in the other.
Is there a way to see this without changing the format of the names in each column? If so do I have to erase the comma?

What I am trying to do is sum values for each day of the month up to a designated date.
Example:
A1=any date of the month
A2-A31 = 6/1/2012-6/30/2012
B2-B31 = values that correspond to each date
how can i sum the values in column B from the beginning of the month to A1?
I need to look up the name in E2 in the list in column A and if it matches then lookup name in F2 in list column b, if it matches then the corresponding number in column C is displayed in column G. If neither names are in the 2 columns the words"Not on lists" is displayed in cell in column G.
The other problem is one name is spelled two different ways I want it to look for both spelling before moving on to looking up the second name.
I started with this formula but I'm getting #N/A or "not on list" when they are on the list. I'm using ranges prod_sum is columns AthruC, Last_name is range BthruC. =IF(AND(VLOOKUP(F4,prod_sum,3,0),VLOOKUP(I4,last_name,2,0)),"not on list")
I have a spreadsheet with two columns - one with names, the other with values. In some cases, the values column alongside a name is blank. Is there a formula-driven method (not a pivot table) that could produce a separate list of only the names that have a value in the value column? The formula needs to be dynamic, not produced via a filter.

If I enter 4/26/2009 in the 1st column, column 2 will read: 5/1/2009

Also, it's very important that if the FIRST date is already the first of the month, then the second column will read the same. For instance: If I enter 3/1/2009 in the first colum, the second column will ALSO read 3/1/2009.

I am trying to get a formula that will search one column range “B” and pull data from another, “D”. Dates are down column “B” and some of those dates are repeated several times. In column “D” there is only one piece of data (a number) entered for each day. Eg, if 08/06/2009 has been entered 3 times in column “A”, there will only be data entered in 1 of the cells of column “D” and blank cells in the other 2.

I couldn’t get the LOOKUP function to work properly, as there are duplicate dates in column “B” and I often got a result of 0 returned.
As I’ve only got 1 piece of data added in column “D” per day and any duplicate days would just have blank cells in “D”, I can actually get a SUMIF function to work, SUMIF(B3:B60,DATE(2009,6,8),D3:D60). Although it does work, it doesn’t feel right using it and I would prefer a formula that would return just the one cell, instead of the sum of a range of cells.
I need formatting to highlight the dates in Column H if they are a greater than a week or more from Column G. Tried some different ways of doing this with the conditional formatting but cannot get it to work yet

I want to perform a dickey fuller test to see if there is a unit root, but for this I can’t have repeated time values, thus I need to create a daily average TR for each day (Thus summing up all TR values for all companies that have data on TR available on that day and averaging them).
How in excel can create an average value for TR every time a series of numbers in the “date” column take the same value? The best thing possible would then be if this could appear so that I have a data set that looks like

I need a function that states If a cell in the email column contains a string or value from the names column, it will result in a true statement so that I can separate out the emails that have these peoples first names.
I have a sheet with a date and the number of months on it which will change. I need the sheet to list the dates in a column for each month automatically: e.g. Two cells contain date “jan07” and the period “10” months. The rows A1 to A10 should have jan07…jan16 listed automatically. If I change then change the number of month to 11 I would like the rows A1 to A11 to update automatically.

I have the following sumproduct formula that's providing solid results but I would like to add a 3rd column of criteria. I'v tired with little succes.

The data is easy to find with pivot tables but I would like to take that manual step out of the reporting being doen from these records.
I use the sumproduct for the attached example. I know I have seen this somewhere on the forum where I can get a value based on a criteria from a row and criteria from a column, but I just can't seem to figure it out right now.

I am trying to get sumproduct to work on a table where two conditions in the same column must be true (ie two employees must both have worked on the same project) in order to calculate a result. Trouble is my formula doesn't produce anything but a big fat zero.
Column A contains the list of projects. Column B has the list of employees. And column C has each employee's cost. So:
=sumproduct((column A = project1) * (column B = Joe) * (column B = Mark) * (column C))
=total cost of Project1 when both Joe AND Mark work on it.
Unfortunately, when I structure sumproduct this way, it returns zero.
I'm trying to work out how to fix the formula below to take into account and ignore and text entries, while giving me the result of the sum of column K minus the sum of column J. If I delete the text entries, the code works but I need the text entries to stay where they are. I've attached a sample sheet with fake info to explain whan I'm trying to do.
Cell N28 on the 'MGMT INFO' tab contains the following formula:

I have two sets of criteria I want to incorporate into one formula. In the first column, if the criteria is matched, it will check the criteria in the next column.
