Unique Values Using COUNTIFS Formula
Dec 3, 2013
I have a query from an access DB that I pull into an excel sheet automatically every 15mins. Column G contains a list of 6 digit customer reference numbers and column C contains a list of the users that have modified records for that customer.
I use a summary sheet to count the number of customers a user has modified records for in that day. The trouble I am having is counting unique records using the COUNTIFS function. In my database if a user changes a record and hits save 10 times that will create 10 records. I only want to count this as 1. I am using the following formula but it doesn't seem to like the 2nd range and criteria in the countifs bit.
=SUM(IF(COUNTIFS('Daily Loss Data'!G2:G1500,'Daily Loss Data'!G2:G1500,'Daily Loss Data'!C2:C1500,"John Smith*")
=0, "", 1/COUNTIFS('Daily Loss Data'!G2:G1500,'Daily Loss Data'!G2:G1500,'Daily Loss Data'!C2:C1500,"John Smith*")))
Daily Loss Data Sheet Notes: Column C = user, Column G = Customer Ref.
I am using an IF statement because my range changes after each query refresh so contains zero's that I obviously do not want to count.

I am writing a formula to accomplish the goal of counting only unique text values in a column, based upon two different factors:
*Need to Count unique text values in column named 'CASE_NAME'
*Column 'FISCAL' must match cell A5
*Column 'ZONE' must match cell A3

Column A Column B
2012 20
2012 30
2013 50
2013 30
2013 50
2014 10
I've got two columns like this. I need to see if a countifs() would handle it for me, or if there's another formula to use.
I need to get a count of all fields in column B that are unique and are 2013 in Column A. In this case the answer would be 2 (in 2013 there was a 30 and a 50, duplicates are skipped).

I'm looking to do a countifs of the following formula, but I can't seem to get a result that counts those items in Column E as Unique results.
Code:
ActiveCell.Offset(0, -2).Value = Application.WorksheetFunction.CountIfs(Sheets("Table").Range("B1:B10000"), ActiveCell.Offset(0, -20).Value, (Sheets("Table").Range("C1:C10000")), "Self Trade, Off", (Sheets("Table").Range("D1:D10000")), "Sat", (Sheets("Table").Range("s1:s10000")), ActiveCell.Offset(0, -3).Value, (Sheets("Table").Range("I1:I10000")), "Completed") + Application.WorksheetFunction.CountIfs(Sheets("Table").Range("B1:B10000"), ActiveCell.Offset(0, -20).Value, (Sheets("Table").Range("C1:C10000")), "Self Trade, Off", (Sheets("Table").Range("D1:D10000")), "Sun", (Sheets("Table").Range("s1:s10000")), ActiveCell.Offset(0, -3).Value, (Sheets("Table").Range("I1:I10000")), "Completed")

1. Using a formula, I am trying to to obtain a list of unique values (string) (caveat: see #2) from the range E2:E10000 (arbitrarily chose 10000 - the row number is variable)(see #3).
I currently have a formula that seems to work for this purpose but I don't know how to add the condition in #2 (below)
2. To include all unique string values except those starting with the letters "IC"
3. Is there a way to make this formula so that it can only seek values up to the last row, and not go to the 10000th row if not necessary? The E column has no empty cells until after the last row that contains data.
Here is the formula I currently use which serves #1 (above):
[Code] .....
Any way to improve/simplfy this formula for the purpose describbed in #1? How can I add the condition in #2? Can you see a way to include #3? The most important issue here is #2.
Example of desired results:
Column A | Column B
AA | AA
DD | CC
AA | DD
CC |
DD |
DD |
IC |
IC |

here's the situation and what i'm trying to do:
each row/record is as follows:
column A contains zip code
column B contains zip code population
column C contains city name
columns D contains state name
there are multiple duplicates in each column.
i am trying to calculate the population for each city and place that data in each row in column E.
in order to do so, i need to add the populations (column B) of all UNIQUE zip codes (column A) for each city (column B) / state (column D).

This question pertains to the solution offered by Dave Hawley in the following post: Sum Unique Values That Exist In Another Column. The original question relates to summing certain values in a column based on unique values in an adjacent column. I have tried the solution on my own, and it works quite well, however, I just can't understand how the "criteria" in column C functions.
ID XXX
1 100
2 200
1 100
3 500
4 600
2 200
--------------------
Total 1400
Assume your 2 columns are A & B and you wish to SUM column B where any unique value exists in the same row but Column A. Add headings to A1 & B1. In C1 Enter the text Criteria. In C2 Enter this formula =OR(COUNTIF($A$2:$A$100,A2)=1,COUNTIF($A2:$A$100,A2)>1). In any cell Enter =DSUM($A$1:$B$100,B1,$C$1:$C$2)

I have the following macro (as part of a much bigger set of code that adds some formulas to to cells to return the total number of unique values. The problem is, this part of the macro takes over 10 minutes to run. Is there a quicker way of doing this or am I going to have to just wait it out each time.
The columns B and/or H is a formula. Column W is an string value.
FYI the last row it is counting to is between 4000 and 30000 lines in each of the formulas
Code:
Dim IRMatRow As Integer
Dim IRMisRow As Integer
Dim UKMatRow As Integer
Dim UKMisRow As Integer
IRMatRow = Worksheets("Matching Stats").Cells(Rows.Count, "H").End(xlUp).Row
[Code] .........

I have a very large table in Sheet 1, in the following range A10:1:3068.
Column C has the company name, and there are multiple instances of the same company name in this column.
(Columns E to I are part of a pivot table and I have various formulas in A thru D).
In column A I have a value indicating whether the company has 'exposure' (an internal meaning for our sales team). If the company has exposure, then the word exposure is indicated otherwise the cell is blank.
What I need to do is in Sheet 2, create a table that extracts a unique list of company names from column C only where it has the word 'Exposure' next to it in column A.
I would like this to be dynamic so if I change a value in the pivot table in sheet 1 the values in the table in sheet 2 will update accordingly.
I am figuring this is an index and match or perhaps a countifs.

I need to count the unique items in a range that don't contain the string "option". I would like not to use VBA for that but I can't make it work with a simple formula.
For now, I have :
[Code] ......
That doesn't count the cell with the content "option" and count correctly the other unique items. However I need to ignore any cell that contains the string "option" (with wildcards).

I have an issues with a formulae I have written to measure two factors;
A; How many different countries appear within a certain date range. B; What countries are they.
I tried a unique list, but could not get it to work within a range? I dont particuarly care how the data is pulled through as long as I do it. At the moment I have become stuck in 'Unique Ranges' and have n given up?
The formulae issue is in the tab "Problem_Formulae", the dat in the sheet 1, and the date ranges in sheet 2. Also, just to make life a bit more challenging pivot tables are a no go .

I have a file with a column containing a series of records where a reference number can be repeated several times. I want to create a formula that will count the number of unique reference numbers in the column.
However - and this is the tricky part - I need it to allow for when the report is filtered, i.e. something like a SUBTOTAL function which ignores the hidden values.
So, the column in the full report has 691 unique values across 2,200+ records. If I apply a filter the column only has say 78 unique values. Is there a formula that can calculate this?

I have the following formula: =IF((COUNTIFS(data_sheet!U:U,Monthly_Report!H10))>166,0,COUNTIFS(data_sheet!U:U,Monthly_Report!H10,data_sheet!BN:BN,"Premier"))
This formula counts values on my data sheet based on the specified criteria. I have this broken ito 3 section, each section that needs to be summed.
Section 1 can not be greater than 165, if it is all the values in the range needs to be reset to 0
Section 2 can not be greater than 190, but at the same time can not be less than 166, else is need to be reset to 0. How would I adjust the above mentioned formula to check these criteria?

I have been using this function to count the number of unique text values in a data set:
=SUM(IF(FREQUENCY(MATCH(B2:B10,B2:B10,0),MATCH(B2:B10,B2:B10,0))>0,1))
It works great if I want to count number of unique text values overall. However, I want to count the occurrences of unique text values if they meet specific criteria. (Like a countifs function would if it could count unique text).

I have a spreadsheet with some calculations and the part i am interested in is data in R4 : V58
In this R4:R58, S4:S58 and T4:T58 have some rows that have False because of IF calculations that put False in some rows of R and hence in S and Hence in T.
For example, R15="FALSE" so will S15 and T15 be. Col U is based on whether the corresponding row in R is False or a number. If a Rown in R is false, the row in U= 0 else the row in U is the same as in the same row of a different column - Col I
Col R, T and U are numbers. Col S is text
For example:"
R S T U
False False False 0
False False False 0
False False False 0
55 DEF 3 15
46 XYZ 2 67
False False False 0
False False False 0
23 GEF 4 43
I want a table in another worksheet that will sort through this using a formula and print
Col1 Col2 Col3 Col4
55 DEF 3 15
46 XYZ 2 67
23 GEF 4 43
If I can define things like where the table will be placed in the new worksheet etc, that will be a bonus..But It appears I cannot understand how to do this at all..

I use the following formula to count unique values within a group for a pivot:
=IF(SUMPRODUCT(($CO$2:$CO55681=CO55681)*($E$2:$E55681=E55681))>1,0,1)
When I paste values over the formula it takes around 1 hours to do the 70k cells which is excessive. I want to know if there is a way to speed it up?
I tried doing an =cell and then paste special that and it works really fast but when I delete the actual formula's again the whole sheet locks up.

I have the following formula in a sheet to record basketball stats that I am putting together.
=COUNTIFS('Running Game Log'!A:A,"=Jarod",'Running Game Log'!C:C,"=2 pt miss")
This formula counts from a list that is generated during in-game recording of stats & obviously counts the number of times "Jarod" misses a "2 pt shot".
My question is can the criteria "Jarod" refer to a value in a cell, rather than the specific name "Jarod" as I want to be able to change player names easily, rather than have to edit this formula every time.

I have multiple rows of data per each column. I'm trying to count rows that match a value that ISN'T any of the expected values in column A as well as a certain value in column G. This is in case future data is introduced that doesn't match the existing codes.
I'm trying to count all rows that DON'T have a value in column A beginning with PUA or P9V, so far I am trying this:
=COUNTIFS(A:A,"<>P9V*""<>PUA*",G:G,"P")
But it only seems to work on the "<>P9V" part. When I put P's in the column G of which the column A matches PUA*, it still counts the cell. I've tried a couple of AND variations but none are working.

I have a problem with a cumulative countif and offset formula that I am unable to solve. See the attached spreadsheet for an example of the dataset I get out from our systems.
I want the formula to be fully automatic, so when I change the month in column K2, it will automatically count all the different outlets in column B based on criteria in column L3 and downwards. The dataset will be updated monthly obviously.
I believe that it could be solved with the usage of a countifs + offset formula or something similar.
The main idea of the spreadsheet is to track the movement of customers between different chains. It is thus important that customers that show up in January will not be counted again in February or March, thus creating an unique countif list based on a given month.

Basically, I want to count the frequency of "N" in 'Data_Q2 2008'!$S$2:$S$9806, where 'Data_Q2 2008'!$B$2:$B$9806 = 'Metric Upload'!C2.
'Data_Q2 2008'!$B$2:$B$9806 is a list of physicians. 'Metric Upload'!C2 is a pick list for selecting the physican that is in the larger data set using Data Validation.

I currently have 6 formula (see below) that I want to add another variable for. The formulae add together letters in B1:B15 cross referenced against numbers in A1:A15. The first formula adds together the A's and O's in B1:B15 and cross references them with with cells beginning with 5 or 6 in the same row, A1:A15 down.
=SUM(COUNTIFS(B$1:B$15,"A",A$1:A$15,{"5";"6"}&"*")+COUNTIFS(B$1:B$15,"O",A$1:A$15,{"5";"6"}&"*"))
=SUM(COUNTIFS(B$1:B$15,"B",A$1:A$15,{"5";"6"}&"*"))
=SUM(COUNTIFS(B$1:B$15,{"A";"O"},A$1:A$15,"4*"))=SUM(COUNTIFS(B$1:B$15,"B",A$1:A$15,"4*"))
=SUM(COUNTIFS(B$1:B$15,"A",A$1:A$15,{"1";"2";"3"}&"*")+COUNTIFS(B$1:B$15,"O",A$1:A$15,{"1";"2";"3"}&"*"))
=SUM(COUNTIFS(B$1:B$15,"B",A$1:A$15,{"1";"2";"3"}&"*"))
I want to cross reference each of these with a Gender variable (denoted as M or F, for male & female) in the C1:C15 range. Using the last formula as an example should tell me how many M's or F's in the range C1:C15 had B and began with either 1,2 or 3.

At present am using =COUNTIFS(Staffer,$B$5,System,C4,Q,$A$5). This works fine but as you can see I must change the Staffer starting reference $B$5, with each new row.
formula that changes column and row automatically as I drag down and across.

I know this should be straightforward, but just can't "hack the logic", whether using "Countifs" oor "SumProduct" formulae.
Attached file 140509 String Criteria.xlsx file has database of three fields (Date, Route number and Part number)
I need the formula that totals number of rows meeting three criteria:
(a) A specific date from Col A
(b) A specific number from Col B
And the part I can't sort out:
(c) Any cell containing a "string" in Col C (so needs to count the "core" even if it has a prefix or suffix).
E.g. How many rows have "Date x" in Col A, "Route Y" in Col B and a cell containing "123" in Col C?

I have a large metrics spreadsheet that has thousands of formulas using SUMPRODUCT. We are using Excel 2007/2010 now and I wondered if there was a way to convert these type of formulas to use the SUMIFS or COUNTIFS. I can do simple ones with 1 or 2 criteria where its AND, but then there is a combined OR and AND like this one has I cannot get them to work right, am I stuck with using SUMPRODUCT? My hope was to speed up the overall calculation speed. Note: The data spreadsheet 'Sheet2' contains 64555 rows, I write these formulas using VBA so that the range is finite to the actual data range is why you see 64555.
=SUMPRODUCT(--('Sheet2'!$J$3:$J$64555=$A6),--(('Sheet2'!$I$3:$I$64555="HOC")+('Sheet2'!$I$3:$I$64555="MGN")))
