I am trying to get an average from one column based upon criteria from an adjacent column. The number of days to close a case for race columns Black and White are listed in B5:C16 and E5:F16 and H5:I16. I need a formula to calculate the average days taken to close cases for Males and then the same for Females. Sample below: ...
I am trying to get the average of two columns column A and Column B Column A has text (survey type) i.e. Move In, Mid Year, Year End Column B has the scores given on that survey type i.e. 70 I am trying to get the average of of all the Move In cells from column A for each survey type so that I get average of all the scores in column B.
I have 2 columns of data in Excel which I have brought a small section of it below. As can be seen the values in the left column have a large spike (difference of more than 10) at certain points (in this case at 34). I wan to find the average of the numbers in the right column but only till the point where the large spike happens (in this case the average of the first 5 numbers). I've tried AVERAGEIF but it's not what I want. I want this to repeat for the entire column and give me the averages of each of these groups.
Any way to construct a formula in excel that will look at a reference in one column and find the latest date from the data in an adjacent column for that specific reference?
Below is an exctract from a much larger sheet of the columns in question.
The result in the last column should be 21/05/2014 for anything with D.O.001 in the second column and 15/05/2014 for anything with D.O.002.

I'm trying to figure out if there is a formula I could use that will calculate the average of a group cells in one column based on the condition of another column. It's hard to explain, so I will show an example. All the data is on a one worksheet and I'm trying to show totals and averages on another worksheet. Location, Days

On a different worksheet I would want to know what the average days are for each location. So is there a formula that I could use that will look at column A for a specified location number and then average all the days in column B for that location? I'm using Excel 2003 and have tried using the Average(if) but with no success.
I have a pivot that includes customer data and I need to create an average for each row based on the first populated column for each customer. After one month of units appears for the customer, I need to calculate the average going forward, and if there are blanks after that they should be treated as 0 in the average. Below is an example of my description of the pivot.

So, the average for customer #1 would be calculated from Column B to Column E, and factor column D as a 0 in that calculation. Customer 2's average would start in Column C and go to Column E, and factor column E as a 0 in that calculation. Customer 3's average would start in column D to column E.
I have information I'm trying to evaluate. Average Close time. but I need to evaluate it for each month. Forinstance if my average close time was B. and the close date was c. I would need the average(b:b) but only from fields that had a close date of July in column C. is this possible? I hate to have to break up the data set 12 times. I have a spreadsheet with a list of account numbers and values(sheet1) and on a seperate sheet (sheet2) a list of all unique account numbers that appear in the transaction data sheet.
What I am trying to do is get a total sum for the values of each account number. What I am getting well I'm not quite sure what I'm getting. The problem appears to be when the xSubtotal variable is reset to 0 at the end of calculating all the values for the account number.

I have an personnel file with employee info, and I want to create a macro that will look in the "Master" worksheet at the Department column ("I") for anyone in Benefits, and then copy their name from the Name column ("D") into the "Benefits" worksheet. As the max value of this is 90, and its 10% of MAX is 9, which occurs at 3rd and 9 th positions.I need to find the average of its adjacent range, with zeros not considered.It has to calculate the max value in the column, find 10% of max and do average of adjacent column from the sl. no of first occurrence of 10% value in first column to the sl no of last occurrence of 10% value in first column.
the exact 10% value may not always exist. 10% of 90 is 9, but if the max value is 94, the 10% would be 9.4 which doesn't exist. then it has to take the nearest available predecessor in that case.i get values in decimals mostly and only some of them are perfect integers, thus this consideration goes with it,and also, my range actually is B14:B10013
i would most probably have the 10% value within the first 50 "non zero" entries and reoccurring somewhere probably within the last 50 "non zero" entries.

I am limiting choices in a certain cell to a list via data validation (using data validation, allow - list and pointing to the source). I want to limit the next set of choices in the next column (in this example in Column C) for the user based on the choice made in the adjoining cell. For example to keep it simple I will use the following: if the user selected "Fruit" in B1, then the options in C1 would only show "Oranges","Apples", "Pears". If however the user selected "Veg" it would only show "Cucumber", "Lettuce", "Spinach", "Radishes" in the drop down in column C. I can put a prefix in front of the column C data validation list if that is needed to narrow down e.g. FR-oranges, FR-apples etc.

I have a spread sheet which totals the amounts in 2 columns D and E, which are pounds and pence. The formulas for each one are:
Pounds
=SUM(D3:D8)+ROUNDDOWN((SUM(E3:E8)/100),0)
Pence
=MOD(SUM(E3:E8),100)
These work very well and give me the correct figures.
What I would like to do is to add up the values of each row based on the criteria of column C and have just one value in ONE cell (as shown on lines 13 & 14), so for instance:
When added together the values of rows 3,4 & 6 are 7.25 (based on a value of "W")When added together the values of rows 7 & 8 are 5.00 (based on a value of "F")

I would like to average a column based upon another column value. Namely, if one column is a duplicate, I would like to take the column to its right value and average all the duplicates. For example

I have a worksheet on which the data is already grouped. At the top of each group is a row that contains only the group name. Since the rest of that row is blank, I want to use a blank cell on that row as a reference, then copy the group name to a newly created column, then fill that column down to the next group.
The goal is to create a column that contains the group name, rather than just having the group name as a " header" at the top of each group.
I was wondering if there is a way for excel to compare cells and identify when they are identical. My objective for this is as follows. Lets say i have some data entered in cells A1:A10. Suppose cells A1,A3,and A4 had the same value (112-343). Now suppose cells B1:B10 had values also, lets say B1=2, B3= 2.5 and B4=8. I need for excel to go through the A1:A10 range and realize when the A cells have identical values, after this is realized i want excel to take the values in the B cell that correspond to the identical A cells, average them and then store them in cell C. And if there are mutliple identical cells i would like the routine to be able to identify this also. lets say A1=A3=A4=(112-343) and A6=A8=A9=(154-456) ....
I need to sum values in a column, but only if the text in the same row of the adjacent column meets certain criteria. Below is a simplified version as an example:

I need a formula that will add up the cells in column B that have "Apple" next to them in column A. Apple would total up to 4 and Banana would total up to 3.
