i've attached a pivot table where some cells are empty (see GCP tab). i want the empty cells to appear empty, and not as they currently appear, with the word "blank" in parentheses. i am aware that if i enter 2 spaces in any cell and press return, all empty cells in that column will also appear empty. is there any other way to have empty cells in a pivot table appear empty?
When in a worksheet and clicking in the pivot table results, the pivot tables no longer display.
I did have a reinstall of Office last week but can't see how that would have impacted this. Otherwise, I only use the pivot table command to 'refresh all'.
I know very little about them and didn't create this workbook.
I do add entries to the source data and have tried to change source data but I get Reference is not valid.
I have a single workbook with multiple worksheets. Each worksheet has a different pivot table displaying a different view of the data. Each pivot table uses the same source data at worksheet1.
Each week i add new data to the end of the source data, which means that I need change the source data reference separately in each pivot table to update each pivot table view to include the new data. This is laborious as there are quite a few pivot tables.
Was wondering if there is some way of changing the pivot table source data reference on all pivot tables at the same time.
I have attached a spreadsheet that is causing me difficulty. I currently have a formula that is displaying in V3 the highest grade when it looks up the data in A3,H3 & O3. Then this is repeated for W3 when the data is looked up in B3, I3 & P3 etc etc... BUT
I need the formula to work if only block one is complete i.e. (1 Explore grade, 1 Plan Grade, 1 Make Grade etc).(please see the example to understand what is meant by a block)
The current formulae will only display a grade if all cells are complete i.e., A3,H3 & O3.
So I am looking for the formula to:
If A3 has a grade in it I wish V3 to display it because its the only grade. (even if H3 & O3 are blank)
As and when H3 has a grade filled in I want the formula to select the highest and display it in V3 (again even if O3 is blank)
As and when A3, H3 & O3 has a grade in it I wish the formula to lookup and display the highest in V3
Ans this repeated for all different areas, Explore, Plan, Make etc.
I have a pivot table in the first sheet which includes the field "Date" as a column label.
In the remaining sheets, except for one, there are pivot tables based on the same underlying dataset which also include the field "Date" as a column label.
I would like to adjust the selection (i.e., exclude some dates) from the column label in the first sheet and see if it is possible to make the same adjustments automatically to the pivot tables in the remaining sheets as well.
note that the field "Date" is used as a Column label, i.e., it is not a Report filter.
I currently have several pivot table that's linked to a single pivot table(let's call it X) in the same workbook. I'm doing this to limit the file size because the data in X comes from a text file that has millions of lines. However, it's such a pain every time I need to update the tables because simply clicking "refresh" does not update those tables that are linked to X with new data. I would have to instruct the wizard in every linked table to point to X every time. I'm trying to write a small program to re-point to X for each of those other pivot tables whenever i refresh data. However, after trying to record the steps to do this I'm still unable to run these
I have a range of cells with numeric values or blanks. I set up a Conditional Formatting rule with this range selected: New Rule > Format only cells that contain > Format only cells with: Blanks; then I set the formatting to a light green fill and on the Number tab > Category = Custom > Type: "blank"
The blank fields get the light green fill, but no text; that is, the value displayed is still blank.
I go back to edit the CF rule and change Blanks to No Blanks. The results are what I expect: the cells with numbers display the text blank and have a green fill; the blank cells have no fill (white).
This is my testing criteria. I eventually want the empty cells to display 0 (zero). I tried setting Custom > Type: 0 (the number placeholder zero) and Type: "0" (literally the number zero), and neither works.
I have tried this with Format only cells with Cell Value equal to [the address of a blank cell].
I tried to set the value as "" but kept getting =""""; and ="" became ="=""" ???
I have tried this with Use a Formula... using the len()=0, isblank(), and other approaches, all with the same results.
I also made sure the option [x] Show a zero in cells that have a zero value is checked.
With all approaches to identifying the blank cells, they ARE obviously being recognized as blank values: the fill color is being applied to the right cells; and when Not Blank is the criterion (or a negation of a formula), the blank ones are not formatted. But blank cells will not display the text as defined in the Custom Formatting.
And this isn't an issue of "If the cell displays 'blank' it's no longer blank, so the rule doesn't apply" - HERE'S WHY: I set up a second CF rule that sets the Font to red when the value is greater than zero and had this CF rule follow the CF rule for No Blanks (the test above that works). Cells with positive numbers displayed blank in red, cells with zeros or negative numbers displayed blank in black. This clarified that the actual value of the cell is being evaluated, not the displayed value after Custom formatting is applied.
How do I make sure that my pivot table has no blank cells?
For instance if I have a store with more then 1 barcode of sales against it it will give me the store once at the top left cell of the first column and then the list of barcodes in the column next to it.
I want the store name to appear next to each barcode. Pivot tables make vlookups a pain in the arse to do and I'm sick of having to get around that by copying the pivot table into a blank sheet as values then using the autofilter to filter the blanks and use an ='theabovecell' formula to fill the blanks for all of the columns one by one.
I have a spreadsheet where a column has many cells being empty and others with values. I need to use copy-paste skip blanks to another column so it only overwrites cells that contains values. BUT The cells in the column appears to be empty, not blank, when I try use the copy-paste skip blanks it doesnt work. However, when I press delete in every empty cell the copy-paste skip blanks works for those cells.
Do you got a fast method to make all the empty cells blank?
I have a pivot table that compares year-on-year sales data for accounts. If an account didn't have sales for the earlier year, the custom calculation errors #DIV/0! which I can show as at the account level. Problem is at the subtotal levels, I also get the error when I should be getting a value for the group. The error for the one account is affecting my subtotal.
Is there a way I can Show Empty Cells as a VALUE instead of TEXT of say... 0.001 so I can eliminate the error messages?
why it is counting every blank cell as 1. I have tried to copy my data as paste as special value and run pivot again but I get the same result. For you visual consideration, I've attached a sample spreadsheet.
I have 12 months worth of data in twelve separate workbooks each with a pivot table, I have copy/moved the pivot table tab from each into one workbook so now I have a workbook that consists of 12 tabs each with a pivot table. What I would like to be able to do is create a summary table with the full years data; where I am running into problems is that each months table has slightly different row and column counts and labels making any formula like =sum([sheet 1 cell a1]+[sheet 2 cell a1]) problematic.
I've got 4 pivot tables (all derived from the same base data) on 4 separate worksheets. I've been able to (with this help of this site) to use VBA to hide pivot items on all of these sheets using a list on a user form. Hide/Show Pivot Table Field Items. Hide Pivot Table Fields Pivot Items by Criteria
I now need to be able to show all the pivot items on only 3 of the 4 pivot tables, with the 4th pivot table being left untouched. For ease assume that my sheets are sheet1, sheet2, sheet3, and sheet4. The tables I wish to update are on sheet2, sheet3 and sheet4. The pivot table on each sheet is called "PivotTable4" and the pivot item is called "Business". The pivot item contains 12 business names (Business1, Business2 etc etc)
Is there an easy way of doing this? I've spent the day looking through the internet and various "Dummies" books but with little success, I fear that I'm obviously below even Dummy level
how to fill the blank cells in a Pivot table. I am using Excel 2007. How to do it in excel 2007. Heard that there is a provision in excel 2010 version.
how to create a pivot table that does not skip through blank data cells. I have a pivot table with data for several dates, but not every date has a data point. I would want the pivot table to show all the dates with the blanks, rather than skip through the days with no data.
Hi, I desperately need help with a pivot-table and can't find anyone else who's ever had this problem...I have a very large healthcare data table which for simplicity I will describe as follows. In essence the first two columns respectively are (A) location and (B) month. Let's say the third column (C) is the number of cases of the disease kidpox treated in each health centre during that month. The fourth column (D) is the total number of cases of everything treated during that month in each clinic. The fifth column (E) is the proportion of cases of this disease over all consultations for each health centre and month, and the formula in E2 is .....
I was wondering why a pivot table will allow you to tick and untick pivot items that are not visible?
My pivot tables have a lot of data and someone may wish to only see the pivot items that are shown in the pivot table in its currrent view. Is there a way in VB to achieve this?
In my attached example when you suntick the Media 'TV' then look in the 'Channels' drop down you can still see the tick boxes for TV channels 'ITV' and 'TV_BBC1' (I know why they are still ticked, I'd just like them not to be visible).
How can I FILTER a range and display the unique items, one below the other, WITHOUT blank cells - with only a FORMULA. What I came up with is shown in the attached WB. I would like to present the countries like in C11:C15.
I have a 8 pivottables with a graph for each. is there a way that i can have a dropdown menu to select which graph to display instead of having all these graphs everywhere....
I have an issue with printing a worksheet with a pivot table. When refreshing the table, depending on the filter choices, the table length with expand and contract. When the pivot table contracts, it leaves a light blue shaded area. If you try to print the worksheet it includes the blue section. Is there a print macro that can be written that will only print the sections with values or perhaps a print setting that would exclude the shaded area?
When I run pivot tables, the row label descriptions are only displayed at the highest level for each category. As displayed below the highest level on the row label is MOB and is only detailed in the first row. I need for each of the different row label levels to display the data so there are no blank cells.
I have four sheets with a lot of pivot tables on each and my problem is that whenever I hit Refresh the formatting of the pivot tables is always changing. It seems that this is something of an issue in Excel 2010 and that they only way to truly get around it is to re-format the pivot tables upon refresh with VBA code.
Any resource or thread I can use to learn the commands to format the pivot tables?
I am getting better with VBA code but seems to always get stuck on trying new things because I do not know the commands.
I'm trying to sync a common field in two different pivot tables.
I have 2 pivot tables on a single worksheet. Each table has its own data source - 2 different databases (had to set it up that way to present all the data requested).
The 2 data sources have one column of data in common. This column is called Projects and all project names are the same in both databases.
BUT...
Pivot Table 1: Projects is in the ROW area (multi-select dropdown)
Pivot Table 2: Projects is in the PAGE area (single select drop-down)
I would like to link the Projects data items so that when I select a project name in the Combo box, the same project name would seamlessly be selected in both tables.
Each table would populate with its own data based on the project selected.
Basically, I'd like to use the method illustrated in this Flash file: [url]
This method would have worked beautifully if it weren't for this reason:
Table 1: Project data is in the PAGE field (single selection)
Table 2: Project data is in the ROW field (multi-selection)
If the Projects data was in the PAGE field in both tables, my code would look like this:
I have several pivot tables that need to be re-linked to an Access database (really change the link to a different month's data). Currently, I do this manually, but I was hoping to write a macro to do this. Data is saved by month so I can't just create a "current" file as to not change the links each time. I can only get code to work for the refresh portion.
