I have attached a spreadsheet that is causing me difficulty. I currently have a formula that is displaying in V3 the highest grade when it looks up the data in A3,H3 & O3. Then this is repeated for W3 when the data is looked up in B3, I3 & P3 etc etc... BUT
I need the formula to work if only block one is complete i.e. (1 Explore grade, 1 Plan Grade, 1 Make Grade etc).(please see the example to understand what is meant by a block)
The current formulae will only display a grade if all cells are complete i.e., A3,H3 & O3.
So I am looking for the formula to:
If A3 has a grade in it I wish V3 to display it because its the only grade. (even if H3 & O3 are blank)
As and when H3 has a grade filled in I want the formula to select the highest and display it in V3 (again even if O3 is blank)
As and when A3, H3 & O3 has a grade in it I wish the formula to lookup and display the highest in V3
Ans this repeated for all different areas, Explore, Plan, Make etc.
How can I FILTER a range and display the unique items, one below the other, WITHOUT blank cells - with only a FORMULA. What I came up with is shown in the attached WB. I would like to present the countries like in C11:C15.
I was thinking something like... but this doesnt get rid of the blanks... (this is using google spreadsheet, but ARRAYFORMULA, is the same as hitting "CTRL-ENTER" - in excel.
I have a worksheet (Data) that lists when pupils are in for Nursery sessions during the week. If they are in they have a 3 (hours) by their name in the relevant columns.
In the AM worksheet I now need to pull through a "register" so under each daily heading I need to pull through everyone that has a 3 next to their name under Monday AM / Tuesday AM / Wednesday AM etc. from the Data sheet. However, I don't want it to copy any blank cells. I then need to do the same for the PM sheet.
I have a spreadsheet filled with formulas that depend on a value being entered into A2, A3, A4, etc... So column A starting at A2 is where I will manually input a number and the formulas I have in columns B, C, and D will import information from another sheet based off what is put in column A. In column D the formula I have to import data
is =IFERROR(VLOOKUP(A2,Master!C:M,11,0),"").
This will import another number. Additionally in column D, I have conditional formatting that will return a red, yellow or green light based off the rule I have in place. Everything works fine, the only problem is that column D has a green light all the way down even without a value being placed in column A. I would like to find out a way to keep the cells in column D blank until a value is entered in column A. Also, if I go back and delete the value in column A, I would like the corresponding cell in column D to go back to blank as well.
In range B4:M4 some cells contain values and some are blank. I am trying to write a formula that will omit the blank values and just give me the nonblank values. The code below returns the FIRST nonblank value, but I can't seem to figure out how to drag it across a row to get the others. I want to ensure that the numbers stay in the same order (so no largest/smallest formulas), but the blank cell values need to be removed.
This would then need to be repeated for (B5:M5, B6:M6, ETC).
The result is a variable/number (235), "d" or a blank cell ("").
This formula is in a column and works fine where there are numbers in corresponding cells. The problem arises with corresponding cells which appear blank (show no values) but contain references to other cells: they result in a "d" when nothing should be displayed.
So while a corresponding blank cell is correct if it shows no values, it gives me this problem - I don't want "d" or anything.
i've attached a pivot table where some cells are empty (see GCP tab). i want the empty cells to appear empty, and not as they currently appear, with the word "blank" in parentheses. i am aware that if i enter 2 spaces in any cell and press return, all empty cells in that column will also appear empty. is there any other way to have empty cells in a pivot table appear empty?
I have a range of cells with numeric values or blanks. I set up a Conditional Formatting rule with this range selected: New Rule > Format only cells that contain > Format only cells with: Blanks; then I set the formatting to a light green fill and on the Number tab > Category = Custom > Type: "blank"
The blank fields get the light green fill, but no text; that is, the value displayed is still blank.
I go back to edit the CF rule and change Blanks to No Blanks. The results are what I expect: the cells with numbers display the text blank and have a green fill; the blank cells have no fill (white).
This is my testing criteria. I eventually want the empty cells to display 0 (zero). I tried setting Custom > Type: 0 (the number placeholder zero) and Type: "0" (literally the number zero), and neither works.
I have tried this with Format only cells with Cell Value equal to [the address of a blank cell].
I tried to set the value as "" but kept getting =""""; and ="" became ="=""" ???
I have tried this with Use a Formula... using the len()=0, isblank(), and other approaches, all with the same results.
I also made sure the option [x] Show a zero in cells that have a zero value is checked.
With all approaches to identifying the blank cells, they ARE obviously being recognized as blank values: the fill color is being applied to the right cells; and when Not Blank is the criterion (or a negation of a formula), the blank ones are not formatted. But blank cells will not display the text as defined in the Custom Formatting.
And this isn't an issue of "If the cell displays 'blank' it's no longer blank, so the rule doesn't apply" - HERE'S WHY: I set up a second CF rule that sets the Font to red when the value is greater than zero and had this CF rule follow the CF rule for No Blanks (the test above that works). Cells with positive numbers displayed blank in red, cells with zeros or negative numbers displayed blank in black. This clarified that the actual value of the cell is being evaluated, not the displayed value after Custom formatting is applied.
I can't modify my formula to leave blank cells blank when dragging it down, Also, I've got two formulas that i need to combine. Please view the comments I've put in cells E4, F2,F3,H2 and I2 to understand clearly what am seeking. See the attached worksheet.
Here's what I'm attempting to do: For each column, X,Y, Z, I am attempting to count nonblanks. However, the data was imported from Access and Oracle, and Excel treats what appear to be blank cells as nonblanks. I've tested this theory by highlighting a couple of "blank" cells and deleting them, and my count changes. So, can I get Excel to put a value into my "blank" cells, so then I could filter it out, or create a formula that would only count dates in my columns (which is what I'm after).
This is what I'm looking at:
A B C 1 2/4/2006 2/6/2006 ("blank") 2 ("blank") 12/13/2005 1/7/2006 3 2/20/2006 1/15/2006 ("blank")
In each column if I use a COUNTA I'll get a total of 3, instead of 2 for A, 3 for B and 1 for C.
To get cell to display results of formula I must edit (F2) and hit enter. Is there an easy way to do this in bulk rather than editing and hitting enter on hundreds of cells?
Example of formula: =IF(COUNTBLANK(K2)=1,"",CONCATENATE("*** ",K1,": ",K2," "))
The situation is that I have 3 interest income from 3 different companies. Column B acts as a helper column to determine if a partner receives just one interest income or receives multiple interest income. If they receive multiple interest income, I want column B to display a 1 and if not make it blank. If you notice partners 5, 9, and 16 contain two or more interest incomes (Columns C - E). All the cells are have either an amount (positive or negative) or a zero. There are no blank cells. Columns (F - H) contains the interest income amount if only that partner receives just one interest income. So for those partners they should not display any of their amounts. The reason is because I am using a word template and currently have to use multiple templates ( 3 in total) to display correctly for each partner. I got this to work with a word macro that will collapse all non blank columns in a particular table. This might be on a ongoing project for me as I do have more logic to solve.
i've got a pricing spreadsheet that's doing my head in. hopefully someone can help me with my latest formula issue.
when i expor the file as a pdf, you loose the column names. so...
a b c d e f g h part ID qty 1 price qty 2 price qty 3 price discount price
i want to calculate the discount price as a perctange of either b/c or d/e or f/g groupinsg (qty break & price for that paricular qty amt). The problem is b/c are populated for all rows. some parts have a secdonary price break (d/e) and some have a tiertary price break (f/g).
I want to take the percentge discount off the high qty price break. So if f/g is populated I want to take it from that. If it's not populated, then e/f. and Only if f/g & e/f are NOT populated do i want to take the discount from b/c. is there a formula i can insert into H to do this?
I have data in some of the cells within range A26:A39
These cells are populated via an IF function on another worksheet. Even though the cells appear blank (as in the value returned is ""), there is a formula in these cells. I think it's called formula blank?
I am looking for a way to copy the data from the cells within the range which are not blank (ie: not = "") and paste this data elsewhere on the sheet in a list with no blank spaces in between.
I anticipate that there will be 4 non blank cells within this range.
Ideally I would have data from the nonblank cells copied and pasted to cells A40 A41 A42 A43
I have been trying to import CSV files into Excel on my new computer. I previously had a windows 7 system with office 2007. I have now moved across to a windows 8 system with office 2013. The problem I am faced with is the CSV files which I imported without problems on my old system don't seem to work on the new one. The excel spreadsheet shows the numbers, but when I try and use any formula, the cell comes up with 0, as if there is nothing in the cell. When using my old system, it shows that it is a picture that needs to be converted to text, but I cannot find out how to sort this out in Windows 8. I have even tried various versions of office, 2007, and 2010 on the windows 8 system with the same problem. I have tried all the things I have found online, checking the regional settings and those type of things.
Count all A's that are also Matt and add up the corresponding figs in J. If use the formula above to 179 (where there are values in the cells) then I get the answer 170 which is correct. Currently with the it set to review all cells from 6 to 300 which includes blanks then it returns #value therfore I assume it is not coping with the blank cells.
I am trying to return the criteria MET, NOT MET & EXCEEDS. This works when each cell contains a number, but when one is blank the formula below returns "EXCEEDS" I'm guessing this is because is sees a blank as zero.
Basically I need to know how to make excel ignore the blank cell and not see it as zero thus returning "EXCEEDS". Although the cell values are integers they are derived from another cell using the following formula, I'm not sure if this makes any difference
I'm looking to create a formula that will skip past any blanks until it finds the latest and most up-to-date value.
Some context: I wish to return a latest estimate value to a cell (A5), and this value is updated quarterly. Let's say that the quater 1 value sits in cell A1, Q2 in A2, Q3 in A3 and Q4 in A4. I wish cell A5 to display the latest estimate as soon as a user updates it on a quarterly basis, but default to the previous quarter's estimate if that latest view is unavailable.
I've tried using some IF(ISBLANK...) combinations but am getting nowhere !
NB want to try and avoid Macros across this worksheet so a formula solution would be best.
In cell C1 I hace A1-B1 and in cell DI want to display the status of the cell C1 like this : =IF(C10 ; "NOT OK" ; "OK") This means that when the value of the cell C1 is different then 0 cell D1 will display "NOT OK" and if the value of cell c1 is 0 then D1 will display "OK".
The PROBLEM: Because the cell C1 contains a formula (A1-B1) the D1 cell will display "NOT OK" even if the cell C1 doesn't show any number.
I have a spreadsheet where I want to filter out a row if the entire row has zeros across all the columns. I cannot just use a Sum() formula because some of the numbers are negative and there is a chance it could zero the sum out.
Currently to do this I am using the following to tell if there are values in each of my rows:
obviously if one wants to count all cells that contain data they can use COUNTA, but what if i have a range of cells that contain IF formulas and only want to count the cells that display data?
presumably you'd have to use some variation of NOT(""), but i can't seem to make it work.
I am making a spreadsheet for use by my customers. Is there a way to leave cells that have formulas' in blank until the cells that make up the formula have entries in?
