Apr 16, 2013I have several sheets I use for MI and most have similar amounts of data in, ie, a tab for each month with out 15-20 columns and upto 10,000 rows, then a couple of summary sheets with filtering and calculations in.
One of my sheets is currently 16Mb, when the others are about a third of that, with similar amounts of data.
Is there a way to find what is causing the extra space to be taken in this sheet?
Or does this seem about right for the amount of data?
I'm using 2007.
Find Column Number And Then Use Index Function
May 28, 2008I have a database with over 100 products listed across the first row.
Column a has a list of over 500 projects. Across each project various columns are marked with a number depending on how many of each products are being used on that project.
For Example
A B C D E etc.
Products --> X Y Z AA
Proj 1 2 3
Proj 2 1 4 5
Proj 3 2 4
etc.
I want to be able to create a report for any given product.
The report could look like,
Product Z
Proj 1 3
Proj 3 2
So I need to lookup the product code across row 1 and determine the column number and then INDEX down that column and find all non blank cells and read the project names from column A.
I am familiar with formulas with INDEX and V/H LOOKUP functions. I am not very good with VBA codes.

Apr 8, 2014I have two sheets. One is named sheet1 where all my data is and sheet2 where all my values are. I want to do a find a replace on column N (sheet1) using the data in sheet2. Column A on Sheet2 has all the values that are found in column N and column B on Sheet2 has what the data should change to.
So for example:
Sheet1 says the following on column N:
cat
dog
lion
bear
Sheet2 says:
Column A
A1: Cat
A2: Dog
A3: Bear
Column B
B1: 2
B2: 8
B3:15
I want the values on column N to be replaced with 2, 8, 15 and so forth. I use excel 2010.

Dec 11, 2013Two months ago our employer seriously limited the size of our mailboxes. We are "forced" to store emails as msg files on our network. PST archives are not allowed. This naturally sucks, as in Explorer you only have the file names and dates to look for that one particular email amongst hundreds (thousands) of msg files. I was able to compose a program in Excel 2010 that generates a list of msg files from a selected folder, together with metadata (sender, receiver, etc.) and so on.
In a test the program worked fine with 6,710 msg files I could post the code here, but the comments and many of the variable names are in Dutch (I never expected it to work in the first place). There is one thing I would like to add to the program. Sometimes I want to add an email to a new email as an attachment. Nowadays I have to look for the right msg file in Explorer by hand, which is a pitty, because I have the paths and filenames in my worksheet. I can put that in a string variable and let VBA do the looking up.
But I don't know how. I would like to be able to let VBA look for the file in Explorer, select it and then stop. I could then drag and drop the selected msg file in my new email. But all my attempts to find example code end up with code that enables a user to select a file and immediately open it. That is one step too far for me. If the msg file is opened, I cannot add it to a new email as an attachment anymore.

Apr 8, 2014So there's a macro "RoundedRectangle4_click" that's assigned to a box on a worksheet. It's a simple macro, I assume. it just takes the user to the 'Main Sheet' tab. I know the name b/c I rightclicked on the box to get the Macro Assigned.
I click on Macros (F8), it's not listed there, but"RoundedRectangle5_click" is, so I click on it, edit it to match the one I'm searching. Nope, nothing. CREATE button is highlighted.
I've gone to VBA (AltF11) to try to find it among the 25+ worksheets, forms & modules - haven't found it yet.

Aug 2, 2014I have created a calculated column in PowerPivot and inserted a formula that worked in a normal excel spreadsheet however, this formula does not work in PP anymore.

it should find "green" in the name and return the position. Hoever it alway returns the error, that the find function could not find the string.I have attached an example spreadsheet.

I'm trying to get the difference of the (date+12 months)-TODAY() to appear in months and days.

The function should take a pivot table and a text string as an argument. The text string is the name of one of the columns. The function needs to return the entire column (excluding the header and footer rows) as an array.
In the example I pasted below, the function should take the pivot table (PivotTable1) and a color, say "Red", as arguments, and then return the values in the Red column as a 48x1 single vector array, in the order shown, starting with 43 and ending with 1. I can only post a text version of the spreadsheet; I was not able to post the actual spreadsheet.

Linking To Column In Another Excel File And Removing Empty Cells?
Jul 15, 2013Let's say I have 2 files: Source file and working file. In source file there are some text names in a column that are updated once in a while.
1. I need to create a column in "working file" such that is taking values from column in "source file" even when "source file" is closed.
2. It should take only non empty values, because I need to create a cell with validation list that consists of text names from the column.
Solving attempt: By searching some solutions in forum I found that the first part I can do in the following way: copy column from "source file", select in "working file" a "paste special" option and choose "paste link". It works, but the problem is that it imports all the column: if in "source file" the column consists of words "a" (cell A1), "b" (cell A2) and all other cells in A column are empty - in "working file", after linking, it appears as "a" (cell A1), "b" (cell A2) and all other cells in A column are "0" (zeros) till cell A65536. And I need that in "working file" column after linking will appear as "a" (cell A1), "b" (cell A2) and all other cells will be empty, so by setting one of cells in B column to be a list (by "Data" - "Data validation" - "List" ) - it will consist only from "a" and "b", and not from "a", "b", "0", "0", "0", .... (65534 zeros).

Oct 1, 2012I have an excel workbook where some sheets have a column called "Name" in Row 3. The column where "Name" appears shifts based upon other criteria so it's not set within 1 specific column.
The real data for the "Name" column starts in Row 5. Is it possible to create a macro that looks in Row 3 for "Name", then once it finds that column, it does a find and replace from Row 5 to the end of the data and replaces every space with a ^.
For example, if I have:
Row 3 Name
Row 4
Row 5 John Smith
Row 6 Jane Doe
Row 7 John Doe
Row 8 Jane Smith
I'd like the data to become:
Row 3 Name
Row 4
Row 5 John^Smith

Nov 1, 2013I've used the below, for example in Column E, the actual data starts in row 4, so I can't use the full E:E syntax:

The above basically checks for a number, and if fails (there could be #N/A, #DIV/0!, text, or Number-stored-as-text in any cell here), it checks for text. (the 65000 is arbitrary; we will never have more than a few thousand rows)
However this is not reliable--the main problem seems to be number-stored-as-text. And it's not possible for me to do the Paste-Special Multiply *1 trick to convert the numbers because this data is dynamically generated from a database--the user would have to do that every time the sheet opens.
Is there not some formula that simply says: "Give me the last non-blank cell after row 4 in column E, regardless of what type of data"? (Excel 2007)
Excel 2003 :: Column Function Insert Within Large Amount Of Data
Nov 27, 2012I am trying to insert three columns within a large amount of data. I am using Excel 2003 edition. The three columns need to measure max, min, and standard deviation of month long ranges and the data goes all the way back to 1993.
Currently, I have a column that has the correct ranges but finds the average for each month
(=AVERAGE($H7214:$H7243))...
And many more ranges as it dates back all the way to '93. Is there a possible way to insert these three columns with their respective commands (=MAX... =MIN... etc.) while keeping all the ranges from the AVERAGE column.
In effect, I am looking to solely switch the begining of the column command
(=AVERAGE($H7214:$H7243)) to (=MIN($H7214:$H7243) etc...
While keeping all of the specified ranges from the AVERAGE column.
