First I want to look up the max value in this column. This is easy =max(b1:b8)
Then I want to know the minimum value that occurs after the maximum value. Thus the answer would be 2.

Or very similar to it, I want to be able to find in order smallest to largest across 6 cells, meaning in cell c4 I want 4-333, d4 20-55, e4 20-77 and so on for only 6 cells as that is all I have room for on the sheet. of course if there are only 2 sets of data then 3-6 will be blank. but I think if I can get something working I can add that part.

Several thousand rows, column A is name, column B is city, column C is $.
I want to see the max, min, median for all first names.
=SUMPRODUCT(MAX((Name=Joe)*($))) - seems to work fine
=SUMPRODUCT(min((Name=Joe)*($))) - will not work, zeros come through, even if there are no 0's for Joe
=SUMPRODUCT((Name=Joe)*(SMALL($,1))) - wrong answer
Finding Minimum Value Using Multiple Criterias
Feb 28, 2008I have managed to make a work queue and lots of other stuff for the model, but I can't get it to take orders in the way I want it. Each order has a order number (from 1 to 100) and the orders come in almost randomly e.g. 3, 5, 11, 2, 7, etc. What I want to do is to take the smallest available order that has not been processed in.
The available orders column and processed orders look something like this:

Zero means no new orders or no processed orders. Now the Start processing column should select the smallest not processed order if previous order has been processed.
A have, for now at least, all other problems solved, but can't figure out how to get start processing column check for the smallest not processed order line. I have tried combination of Min and Max functions with If, but it soon requires too many Ifs to make any sense out of it. I also tried the Dmin function, but it wasn't up to the task becouse the model requires ~1000 lines and as Dmin only takes criterias vertically I ran out of columns . So how could find minimum from row one until current row excluding values processed so far and only checking orders available so far?

SUM Formula For Certain Figures In A Column?
Jul 28, 2014I want to calculate the sum of a column but I have 4 lots of figures going down the column and I only want it to calculate the some of 2 of those 4.
The 4 figures: £4.80, £3.80, 31 & 25.
These 4 figures are within the column multiple times and I just want to have one cell that sums up the £3.80's and £4.80's within the column and then another cell to do a separate sum of the 25's and 31's.
Is this possible, if so how? Does it require an IF SUM formula of some sort?
How To Paste Figures From Column To Row
May 7, 2007I have 2 spreadsheets, one is on crew costs and the other one is a summary page. On "crew cost" worksheet, say A1= IBM, B1 =Microsoft, C1=HP and D1=Pioneer. I want to link A1 to D1 to cells A1 to D4 on "summary page".
However, I do not want to use "paste special", "transpose" function as I may need to add in columns to "crew cost" spreadsheet.
Instead I hope that I could link A1 on "crew cost" spreadsheet to A1 on "summary page" spreadsheet. Then I hope to drag the formula from A1 down to D4. The result will be A1= IBM, B2 =Microsoft, C3=HP and D4=Pioneer on "summary page" spreadsheet.
However, it does not work as dragging only occurs through columns or through rows. Is there any formula that I can use?

Jun 17, 2014In the attached workbook, see the "P & L" tab, cells I30 to I48. The idea of the formula I have placed into these cells is to drag out the figures from column I in the "Trial Balance" tab of the workbook. A similar formula is used succesfully in the "balance sheet" tab in Column B. I don't understand why the formula doesn't work in the cells i've specified in in the " P & L" tab it seems to work for I8 and the rows immediately below it "revenue".

Apr 16, 2014I have a spreadsheet for payroll. The last column is for net pay. I enter this by hand when I get it back from the payroll tech. There are no formulas in this column. When done entering these figures, I click on "save". Then I close the file. From past experience with this sprdsht, I have found that it doesn't always save this column. It saves all the other info. I have entered in the sprdsht, but not this column. So, I have to re-enter everything in this column and "save" again. Close the sheet, then re-open it to be sure it got saved. Why won't it save this column of info. the first time?

Rows are cities designated as i values, columns are the same cities and represented by j values. I need to use a For, Next loop to determine the shortest distance (lowest value) in a given column. The i (row) that contained the lowest value is the first city to be visted and a boolean is entered for that j=i column, showing that the city has been visited. When pulling the minimum values from the column I need to ignore 0 values where the distance is between a city and itself. I'm having trouble coming up with a loop that takes identifies the i row with the lowest value that also ignores previously visited cities and takes the boolean into account. Maybe my Excel spreadhseet will clear up what I'm trying to do, The distances were generated using RANDBETWEEN(1,100).

May 19, 2007I have had a lot of luck finding what I need from the search areas, and I even found some information on the formula I am trying to build. The problem is I don't understand it and I need some help. First let me set it up for you. (I do not know the formula)
If cell L125 is has a value >0.00, I need to locate the smallest value the range of cells C125:F125, I then need to subtract L125 from that number, otherwise enter nothing.
This really has me baffled. I tried and I tried but it will not find the smallest value then subtract L125.

I have copied column A from a PDF file. It contains entries like this, all in the same column:

This column contains an ID # (5), a description (0.002HP Direct), a part # (26845), a date (7/1959), and a manufacturer (Airesearch). All this info is in one column. This column is 11,000+ entries long.
I have column B which is 45,000+ entries long, and contains ONLY part numbers, like this:
325111
I would like to compare column B to find the matching results from within the text of column A, and put these matches into column C.
