Totaling Numeric Amounts Based On Text In Another Column
Jul 26, 2007
I would like to total numeric amounts based text in another column.
For example, I have a bunch of rows in "column F" with the same text (company name) and in "column I" i have numerics. Is there a way to total "column I" based on the same text of "column F"?

I am wondering if it is possible to format a cell that contains text - based on a number in the cell next to it. Here is what I have:
Category......Mean
Results.........3.3
Morale..........3.8
Buy-In..........4.0
I would like the word 'Results' to display in BLACK text because the mean score is in the range 3.0-3.9 (same goes for the word 'Morale'). I would like the word 'Buy-In' to disply in GREEN text because the mean score is in the range 4.0-5.0. Basically, the mean scores are calculated using formulas and I would like the color of the category to change based on the mean score number. Is there a way to use conditional formatting to do this? Or another way to automatically make this work? File is attached.

I have an ad hoc txt file that I import into Excel and use text to columns. The problem is some of the amounts have an asterisk in it such as: 10,412 *
I tried to use the find and replace, but the "*" is considered a wildcard and instead of changing the field to just 10,412, it deletes the entire amount.
Is there a macro that I can use to get around this? The amounts are listed in column G & H

For my example, in column B I have a list of guest names. These names will repeat based on their entries.
In column C I have amounts next to their name.
If the total of all amounts next to their name equal $1,000 or more I want all the rows that their name is in to be highlighted.
I attached an example.

I was using the formula below and it returns a count of how many times a salesman is quoted. Now I am looking something very similar. This time though I am looking to total the price of the second column instead of just counting how many times there is something in the column.
SUMPRODUCT(--(Active!$D$4:$D$200=$A35),--(TEXT(Active!$C$4:$C$200,"mmm")=E$32))+SUMPRODUCT(--(Cold!$D$4:$D$200=$A35),--(TEXT(Cold!$C$4:$C$200,"mmm")=E$32))+SUMPRODUCT(--(Wins!$D$4:$D$200=$A35),--(TEXT(Wins!$C$4:$C$200,"mmm")=E$32))+SUMPRODUCT(--(Sold!$D$4:$D$200=$A35),--(TEXT(Sold!$C$4:$C$200,"mmm")=E$32))+SUMPRODUCT(--(Lost!$D$4:$D$200=$A35),--(TEXT(Lost!$C$4:$C$200,"mmm")=E$32))+SUMPRODUCT(--(Dead!$D$4:$D$200=$A35),--(TEXT(Dead!$C$4:$C$200,"mmm")=E$32))

I want to be able to sort the columns in a worksheet based on their cell values, eg. column of text sorts A to Z and column of numbers sorts largest to smallest. Cells are formatted as General, number or currency but the sort button only offers A to Z or Z to A.

The attached picture shows part of an excel file. It contains about 50.000 rows which I want to run a pivot on. The problem is though that the file contains some rows which stop my pivot from running correctly. These data which I mention are in rows 4, 7, 22-25. Seeing as deleting them manually would take me hours and hours I was wondering if there would be a macro which I can run which delete rows automatically. I think it should filter on the following: whenever there is not a numeric value in column A, the entire row should be deleted.

I have to create 1000 dynamic ranges and do not want to do this manually. See the list below for the syntax I am using, I am only showing the first 10.
Name Range
KPI_01=OFFSET(Date,0,1)
KPI_02=OFFSET(Date,0,2)
KPI_03=OFFSET(Date,0,3)
KPI_04=OFFSET(Date,0,4)
KPI_05=OFFSET(Date,0,5)
KPI_06=OFFSET(Date,0,6)
KPI_07=OFFSET(Date,0,7)
KPI_08=OFFSET(Date,0,8)
KPI_09=OFFSET(Date,0,9)
KPI_10=OFFSET(Date,0,10)
I have tried the following code which works to an extent...
Range("=OFFSET(Date,0,1)").Name = "KPI_01"
..but the final result of the named range is an actual range, i.e. "A1:A13".
How can I keep the named range as a dynamic range?

I have sent a data sheet template to my client in which they paste their data, based on this data sheet analysis will be done automatically in next sheet "Summary".
Whenever they paste product code, vlookup is not working since the product code contains few are numeric (shows: "Number Stored as Text"). I advised my client to go with "Text to Column" and "Delimited" to change it as numeric. But my client feels this method is tedious one. Is there any alternate way to make that column as numeric permanently?

What I want to see is, is it possible to total up the number of times a specific phrase appears in a column using a formula?
I have a column of information generated from an outside source. The information in each row of the column is either "TRUE" or "FASLE".
Say I have 200 rows, I want to count the total number of times "TRUE" appears in that column out of the 200 rows.

I have a payment Excel sheet with thousands of lines Every line (one cell) has row payments data from mainframes like the following
Lhfskldhflshlshdflsd 234 234 sdljflsdjfkl 345.000,56 EUR lshflhshlfsld 2342 sdffgsd
Fsdlflsdf -384823 jsdlfsdlfjsdlfjldfjsldjf 43 50.000,56 EUR fsdgdfgdsfdg 23432
Jlflsdjflsjdfld 569 USD fjsldjflslfhsdlhdlshg 3-448 jlfsdkljfklsd
Etc.
Is there a way (UDF or Macro) to extract from every line(cell) (and put them in the cell to the right) these raw data only the amounts with the Currencies.
PS. (most of the times the amounts mentioned before are the biggest number in every line!)

Is there a quicker way to match the amounts in debits with credits. for example the amount that reverses the transaction in the accrual account for the debit column is after 4 or 5 or sometimes 10 transactions in the credit column.
I have tried using conditional formatting - Highlight - duplicates, but it does not give the matching reversals and include any item(s) with duplicated values.

I am in need of restructuring a spreadsheet of addresses for mailing purposes. (I tried to find something similar answered previously, but nothing seemed to work for me.)
I have attached a small example spreadsheet below, but our spreadsheets can be hundreds or thousands of rows in length.
I need a macro that will look for the "PO Box" addresses under the column headers named "ADDRESS2" and "ADDRESS3".
The PO Box addresses will need to be moved under the column header "ADDRESS1" within the same row.
It will need to overwrite the text that is already under "ADDRESS1" and delete the text from the "ADDRESS2" and "ADDRESS3" columns - UNLESS the text in 'ADDRESS2" is a PO Box AND "ADDRESS1" begins with "c/o".
If the data in "ADDRESS2" or "ADDRESS3" is anything other than a PO Box it will remain the same. As will "ADDRESS 1".
Basically if there is a PO Box it needs to be in the column named "ADDRESS1" and overwrite anything else that was there. The exception will be for PO Boxes that are in c/o someone else, the PO Box will then need to be listed in the column directly after the column that has c/o.
If the c/o exception will be too difficult the code could just highlight those scenarios and we could fix them manually. We usually do not have a lot of them, but enough that we need to be mindful of them.
The different scenarios are listed in my sample spreadsheet.Also, the code will have to use the column header names in row 1 because those headers are not always in the same column.

Wondering if it is possible to convert a string into a numeric value. The idea is that if you have a list of names, if you could add up the numeric values of the names together and hide it at the end of the list. Then if a name on the list changes, then so will that value.
I know how to do this in C or Python, but I am rather new to the syntax of VBA.

I often use vlookups that fail because of numeric/text discrepancies. I was always taught that if you're not going to do math on a field, it should be text. Such as zip codes or social security number.
Anyway, I know the easy way to convert text to numbers is paste special > multiply by 1. But what's the easiest way to convert numeric to text?

SUM(IF(FREQUENCY(E10:E29,E10:E29)>0,1)). this is the formula I currently use to read employee numbers and it works when we just use the number i.e. 011004. When we use the full employee number with alpha characters it does not work i.e. ASMO011004. I have used helper cells to do similar, but am not wanting to do this way for simplicity reasons.

The data is in this format:
82012
8152012
52012
5152012
The days of the month don't really matter. It's the month and year that I need in a date format.
