I want to be able to call the bottom number in a set of data that is ever expanding. I don't really know how else to describe it , so I will give an example.
Say I have:
3
6
4
I would want to be able to call 4, but then if I had:
3
6
4
5
I would want to be able to call 5, and so on. Is there any simple way of doing this? I basically want the maximum cell name, and the corresponding data inside of it.
I have a work book with 3 sheets. Sheet 1 is the main sheet and sheets 2 and 3 will use (I hope vlookup) to update 3 columns from info in sheet 1. my attempt at a vlookup call in sheet 2 is: =VLOOKUP($b3,[master_AoJ_2.xls]Sheet1!$B$3;$B$65,false)
my understanding is that: - $b3 is the cell in sheet 2 that will be updated as a result of the vlookup call. - [master_AoJ_2.xls]Sheet1!$B$3;$B$65 refers to range $B$3:$B$65 on sheet1 of master_AoJ_2. it does not work... infact I get nothing at all. when I type the call into cell $b3 of sheet2 excel thinks it is stariaght text. this is how I coded the function call =VLOOKUP($b3,[master_AoJ_2.xls]Sheet1!$B$3;$B$65,false)
I would like to know if there is a way to expand the selection of cells from the current cell you are on to the very bottom cell available in the spreadsheet.
For example, I want to apply a formula from A12 - the very last A cell row in the spreadsheet.
I am trying to write a macro that will make the bottom cell in a column equal to the top cell. The top cell will not always be in the same row and there won't always be the same number of cells.
Is there way I can copy the BOTTOM cell amount in a specific column, to another specific cell in another workbook? I update a worksheet with a new row of data each day. I want to copy only the last (bottom) entry from one column over to a worksheet in another workbook. I'm hoping I can just put something in the cell I want to copy to, to reference the bottom cell with data I'm copying from.
Ok, so I have a dataset with 37 rows, column A labels each row 1-36 (labels in the first row) and data goes from column A-G
I have a sub that allows users to fill in some message boxes and answer a few questions so they can insert their own new data to the dataset. I want this data to go at the bottom of the entire dataset (so starting at row 38).
What i'm thinking of doing is, since the A column labels each row numerically, is to get a way to get VBA to take the cell in the A column above the new user-inputted data and add 1 to that number of the previous dataset (So take number in the above cell (36), add 1 (37) and insert that into the new A cell of the new row) just because I have an order function as well) then I would also have to fill the remaining cells with the information the user inputs into the message boxes.
On some of my worksheets, the slider bar on the right has become a small square rather than a long rectangle. This causes this slightest shift downward to jump through large amounts of rows. Excel seems to think there must be data down there I need. How do I get rid of empty cells at the bottom of a worksheet so that this no longer happens?
I want to add borders to a range depending on the value in the "a" column. Normally I want a left border in cell "a", a right border in cell "h" and bottom border in cells "a" to "h". However if the value in cell "a" is the same as the cell below I do not want the bottom border.
Cell "a" contains the names of customers using our facilities each day. Some customers use several facilities on the same day. I want the borders to encompass all facilities used by each customer per day e.g. range "a1:h8" might need bottom borders on all rows, because they are single customers using only one facility that day but ranges "a9:h11" would require bottom borders only on row 11, because that customer is using three of our facilities that day.
Set Rng = ActiveSheet.Range("a:h").SpecialCells(xlCellTypeConstants) change the Range to "a:h" and:- With .Borders(xlEdgeLeft) .LineStyle = xlContinuous .Weight = xlThin .ColorIndex = xlAutomatic End With With .Borders(xlEdgeRight)..........
I would like a code that will look for a workbook and then look in cell a5 and return number to a45 of active work sheet. I would also need it to add a6 + a7 + a8 and return sum to a46
I have two problems sort of rolled into one. I have a spreadsheet with a list of skills to perform in cells a2:z2. Under those I put in dates where those skills are performed so a3:a100 , b3:b100 and so on. At the moment I have the these dates populating another sheet with the list of skills going a2:a200 and the dates in b2:b200.
Annoyingly I have been asked set it up so it inputs the other way so my problems are: The skills in the second sheet are in a different order than in the first sheet so its not a straight correlation between the two so I would need to search for the title and match it to the second sheet. Then the second problem is as the will be numerous entries I need to find the next available space in the first sheet. So can you add data at the bottom of a list??
I'm trying to create a macro that will check that an Swedish corporate identification number (CIN) is correct. Swedish CIN conist of 10 numbers and are always written 123456-7890. The last number is a control digit to see if the CIN is correct. I've managed to get the macro working but I am not able to get it to work automatically. that is I want the macro to start running immediately after you have entered a companys CIN. In my template you are supposed to enter the CIN in cell A1, and I want the macro to check that immedately when you have pressed "enter". I can not get it to work. the macro works when I do it manually, that is Tools>Macro>Macro..>Run. I've read all about it here but I guess I just don't get it
I have used a formula to achieve this before which seemed to work although now it seems to be replacing other data already in the worksheet so I am unsure of how to fix, thinking I should just start again.
The file in question is a tracker of activities, Column A (sheet1) is the Status and once the status is "Closed" I need to run a macro that copies all closed activities to Sheet5 at the bottom of previous closed activities. Once this is done I already have a macro to delete all "closed" activities from Sheet1 meaning that it is vital the new closed activities stack onto the bottom of previous closed activities.
The Column Headers start on Row 11 with activities running from Column 12.
Is there a way to create a multiple dropdown (Similar to Windows Start menu) so that the user can select the item and its properties then the selections be placed into multiple cells? For example, i select wood from drop down list and i get another drop down list asking for the type of wood, I select MDF and another drop down ask for thickness. when I finished my selections, then the selected Items copy themselves into 3 different cells.
I have a drop down in (A1) cell and I select an item from it. I want (A2) cell to check the name in (A1) then call up another drop down i already made in (A2).
If I have 12 sheets in a workbook (Jan, Feb,etc..) can I have those names in specific cells (A1,B1,etc..) and call them out in a formula as the cell name as opposed to the actual name?
I am trying to add a macro to the ACCT DATA sheet, which calls one of two subs (AddCarriertoChecklist() - or - ClrPolChList() located in seperate modules). The macro should call them depending on whether "X" is entered in a cell in column "E". The issue lies in that I have macros doing a few things to this sheet already, and I am unable to tie this one in.
I have the two subs (AddCarriertoChecklist() - or - ClrPolChList()) working. I just can't seem to get them called. This small bit is how I was attempting to call them.
[Code] ......
Below is how I currently have it tied in with the rest of the code for this sheet:
I have a listbox1 which lists items from a rowsource, when i click on an item within the listbox i would like to call the value from another cell and populate into textbox1 on the same sheet1.
I trying to create a paperless petty cash system. I have my sheet all setup and calculating how I want. When a user makes an entry they Enter their name in column "W".
I am trying to overcome the problem of accountability. I need to achieve a cell calls for Username and Password and if correct the persons name is entered into cell then Row is locked to prevent figures being altered etc. But also if user made mistake they need to unlock it somehow someway
Sure this achievable from snippets of info I seen online but its way beyond my abilities. I realise a determined user can circumvent this if they wanted to.
I have a value in a cell named subNo. whatever that value is I want that routine to be called. How do I concatenate Sub & the number?
Sub WhichSub() Dim varSubNo As Integer Dim mysub As String varSubNo = Sheets("Main").Range("subNo").Value Call Sub & varsubNo 'how do I concatenate this? End Sub
In an Excel sheet, in A1 I have written B1 and in A2 I have written D20.
I have a data panel in B1:D20.
I would like to call a vba function my_Fun that acts on my data panel and returns a double in cell A3.
Instead of writing my_Fun(B1:D20) in A3 I would like to be able to write my_Fun(A1:A2), where the entries in A1 and A2 are called, rather than A1 and A2 being used to define the range themselves.
I have several blocks of data that I have defined under several names to make data processing much easier when writting formulas. They problem that I have right now is that depending on the value of one cell, I need to call up a given defined name block of data to be used on the calculations. These blocks are labeled as DATA400, DATA500, ... user will input information that will allow me to determined what block needs to be used, user will input data like 400, 500, ..., but to be able to call a block of data I need to reference the complete label DATA400. I have tried to concatenate "DATA" to whatever value is input by the user and use the concatenated value to call the specific blocks of information but it doesnt work.
The master has rows corresponding to numbered files: 4300 | CellValue1 | CellValue2 | etc 4301 | CellValue1 | CellValue2 | etc
In attempting a simple formula (a couple VBA codes I tried did not work and were probably substantially more than I needed anyway), I made the following:
='CMain FolderSub Folder[concatenate(cell w/file number,".xls")]Sheet1'!A1 This is identical to the copy/paste link formula currently in use except that I am trying to have the actual file number/name generated off the master list instead of what is in the file itself.
Purpose: in case I was not clear on this above, I am trying to automatically populate the master worksheet with the data from the workbook. The current procedure is to copy a line of the data from the workbook, then paste as a link in to the master worksheet on the row corresponding to the file number.
I am about to write a small macro to do a iteration calculation. I would like though for the user to select me a cell so that the macro uses the value in that cell to start calculations. Now, what I think would be the problem is how do I code a "time" or notice an action such as clicking in a cell to continue with the macro.
Would it be by inserting a pause in the code of a certain time so that gives the user time to click and wait for the code to start? If so, how would much time is enough? Is there another thing that could restart the code such as "noticing a click in a cell" command in VBA?
I have the following code pasted into the worksheet module which used to work fine but no longer does. I didn't touch the code, it just stopped working.
Private Sub WorkSheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) Select Case Target.Address Case "$A$16" Select Case Target Case "Custom Color 1": Call CustomColorInput1 Case "Custom Color 2": Call CustomColorInput1 Case "Custom Color 3": Call CustomColorInput1 Case "Custom Color 4": Call CustomColorInput1 Case Else: End Select Case "$A$17" Select Case Target Case "Custom Color 1": Call CustomColorInput2 Case "Custom Color 2": Call CustomColorInput2 Case "Custom Color 3": Call CustomColorInput2 Case "Custom Color 4": Call CustomColorInput2 Case Else: End Select Case "$A$18"
CustomColorInput 1-6 are the same except they input data into different cells F16-F21.
When I attach any of the CustomColorInput macros to a button it works fine. When I try to call it from the worksheet module, the data input box pops up but the data doesn't get entered into the cell. When I try to step through the CustomColorInput macros using F8, the input box pops up, I enter data and press ok. Then I continue with F8 and the debugger jumps to a custom function that I entered (below), which is not called for and is in no way related to the code.
Function PullAfterLast(rCell As Range, strLast As String) PullAfterLast = Mid(rCell, InStrRev(rCell, strLast) + 1, 256) End Function
When I close VBA, the data that I typed into the data input box is in the correct cell.
So basically, I'm getting three different responses from the offending code depending on how I call it up. Can anyone tell me what's going on?
More generally, in this and previous occasions, I've had problems with macros that cease to work for no reason that is apparent to me. What are some things that would cause a macro to stop working, without actually changing the code (other than the obvious, like referring to names or worksheets etc. that don't exist anymore)?
