# Coordinate Lines On Scatter Graph?

Jun 28, 2012
I have the following data points:

A

B

1

X

Y

2

0.18

0.52

[Code] ......

And can create a scatter diagram fine. However, I've been asked if it's possible to show on the graph, for each point a line to it's respective X and Y co-ordinate. For example, for row 4 (in red), on the same scatter graph, I'd like there to be two lines for this point,

Line1 drawn from (0.1, 0) to (0.1, 0.26) and

Line2 drawn from (0,0.26) to (0.1,0.26)

I know it's possible to overlap graphs in Excel, but I can't find how to achieve this with scatter plots

I would like to make a scatter graph that will graph the attached. The score would be on the Y axis and the birth date would be on the X axis. This is simple to do by itself but what I would like to do in addition to this is to have the top 25% of the scores a single color, the middle 50% of the scores a second color and then the bottom 25% of the scores to be a third color. And if it is possible to have the ID visible when you move your cursor over a given dot in the graph. Currently when I make a scatter graph the X,Y coordinates show when I hoover the cursor over a dot.

We have a special testing machine in the lab I work in, and it measures reflectivity from reflective vests etc. A special instrument takes a reflective reading and reports back a X and Y value which is used then as a co-ordinate and gets plotted on a graph.

The machine measures for 8 colours, and takes four readings, so for example the first color will be Flourescent Yellow. and then it produces 4 "X,Y" readings, which get plotted onto a graph, and joins all 4 points to create a box as shown in the link >> Graph with joined plots

This is a small capture of the spreadsheet with the values >> spreadsheet

Basically, I need to know how to take the values in columns X and Y, and then make it plot onto a graph as one point, and then join the four points for that one colour,

end result being the grapgh will have upto 8 boxes on it.

I am supposed to make an xy scatter graph like the one drawn of paper. The average point need to have a "cross" around it. So far I can just plot the points. I have added the average point as secondary series. I just need to put the "+ sign or cross around" it.

I would like to graph the data shown below using a scatter graph. However, when I use the cart wizard it assigns numerical values to each data point and then plots the data accordingly. How can I get the scatter graph to group the assets with the same ratings together? Note, I don't want to have to assign values to assets with the same rating each time. I have attached the spreadsheet so you an see the problem.

I have an XY scatter with 40 or so different lines displayed.I want to change the thickness of all of the lines. I dont want to have to try and select them individually and change them. Is there any way to do this? Perhaps changing the default thickness of lines for this type of graph?

I am trying to plot a scattered line graph that contains nearly 4000 points on the y axis. The points represent a day. The x axis is the percentage belonging to that day. The problem that I am having is that the graph looks squashed together and the line is very thick because of this. One of the reasons for this is that a lot of the 4000 points have similar percentages so the line just moves a tiny bit. Is there a way that I can make the graph look more presentable?

The following is a picture of how it looks. You may need to enlarge it to see it properly.

I am reporting on the amount of certificates issued over a period of time. Basically the government stopped released data on the amount of one type of certificate being issued during this period and started releasing data on another type. I am having trouble displaying this other data which starts around half way into the time period. So all the data starts in June 2010... but this other data starts in June 2012.

after spending hours searching the forum, I begin to seriously doubt my ability to even formulate a suitable search question. My problem SHOULD be a known one, but I am unable to find any clues. Here we go:

I have made a pretty stright-forward forecasting model. It is used to calculate economics of a coal fuelled power plant (even though that shouldn't matter). The outcome is, among other things, a single number for Profit / MWh in Euros. There are several input data, such as fuel price, price for CO2 emission rights, operational expenditure, capex, etc.

My idea, then, is to lock all in-data parameters except ONE, then let this variable vary incrementally and then produce a new small table with a) the variable data (example: price for CO2 rights ranging from 10 to 50 Euro in 2 euro steps), and b) the resulting net profit in each case. Ideally, I wish to be able to chose which indata to lock and which to vary, i.e. solution need to have certain flexibility.

NB: The calculations are not that simple, i.e. I cannot use a simple formula - I need to use the exising output cell(s) to feed data.

How do I do this?

The outcome should be basically two rows with a suitable number of columns (or the other way around, two columns in X number of rows). The table will then be used to produce illustrative graphs.

I guess I could hard code a table by simply enter data, but heck, that's not the way to use Excel!

I have a set of data which I need to plot both unordered and ranked.

For the unordered (as is) data, a line graph is fine, as it gives the category labels along the x axis.

For the ordered data, i have a row with the ranking in, and then plot an xy scatter graph, so the values increase.

This obviously has the rank numbers along the x axis, not the corresponding category labels.

Is there anyway to force this? I know there are chart labelling add-ins on here, but our IT dept blocks the download.

The attched file is a very small example.

I have a couple of points, and when i do a scatter plot with connected by smooth line plot, it seems like excel does a bezier splines interpolation. I am wondering am i able to extract the data plots from the data chart?

for example if i have

X - Y

0 - 5

180 - 0

360 - 5

I would like to have all datas of Y from X (0 - 360 degree every degree).

I'm having trouble combining three lines into one. I'm trying to do a daily weight chart and the x-axis is days of month, and the y-axis is the weight. I have 3 rows for the weight (one red line for weight going up from previous day, one green if the weight goes down from previous day, and one yellow line for equal). I want to make the three into one showing the colors. Right now all they are are vertical lines and are not connected.

So on a primary 'y' axis against I have plotted some stacked clusters (3 categories, each with 2 columns and 2 stacks) and now I want to add a percentage line on a secondary 'y' axis to show the % rates for each category.

How do I plot them? I don't want to use Jon Peltiers utility, as I already have it, but still don't know how to use it to achieve the view.

I have an excel worksheet that contains two sets of data. These numbers are then plotted onto a line graph to show the two sets of data against each other.

The graph is working fine, but only for a specific amount of data. The data is split into mutiple lines. From cells A1 all the way to BI1 is one row. I then have information in A4 to BI4. I would like to plot this information on a graph as a single continuous line. Is this possible?

Basically, My graph source is currently =Data!$A$2:$BI$3. This gives me two lines that I want. How do I get the data from A4:BI4 to join up to the first line in the graph.

I have a file sheet named "ratio summary." The data to this is linked to a number of different working sheets (not in the attachment for obvious reasons)

Currently the data in the ratio summary is grouped by year but "open" and the Graph worksheet is automatically linked to the data in row11.

However when I group the data by year (i.e. clicking the "-" figure) the graph also changes.

I haven't deleted the data so don't understand why the graph data is changing.

You know when you open a picture using windows paint,

there's a coordinate on the bottom right of the screen right?

Now, Is it possible to make a macro that records the coordinate everytime i maka a dot using "pencil" feature in paint?

So everytime i click on a spot in the image (draw a single dot), excel would track the coordinates of these dots and write it vertically in 2 columns (x & y)... the result is something like this :

I am setting up a spreadsheet to be able to calculate loads on spread footings. The thing is the footings may be as small as a 2 x 2 or as large as a 6 x 6 or any combination inbetween so I need a coordinate system (to the nearest inch with a max of 1800 inches) to be able to assign each spread footing to a certain spot in the system with which I can calculate the soil stresses.

I intend to make this as idiot proof as possible for anyone who uses this spreadsheet so I was going to set it up as in the attachment where a user can input each individual load on each footing and the distance between it and its neighbors. The numbers are just random values with in each footing and feet between each one. Naturally most people would probably begin data entry in the upper left footing first so I was going to make that the origin unless for coding purposes the lower left would be best.

In this case the upper left footing would be 0,0 and the footing to its right 20,0 and the one farther right 55,0 (20+35) and so forth.

I have a spreadsheet of several sheets, but 7 of them (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Black) are the guts of the file and where I make adjustments. The layout of these sheets is the same, there are several cells of data on each sheet that coordinate with data in the same cell on other sheets. The problem is the sheets are so big, when I change sheets I have to go find the data that was in the same cell (or close) to where I just was on a previous sheet. So for example if on “Red” I am in cell AX253 and I go to sheet “Yellow” I would like it if AX253 would be selected when I get there. And if I select a different cell like D56 on Yellow and pick Green then I want D56 to be automatically selected on Green.

In addition, I plan to use a check box on an eighth sheet called “White” to turn the feature on and off. I have never written code for a check box before.

Is this to terribly difficult to do? I did some searching and saw some code that was similar to this but could not get it to work.

I often find that it would be useful to have a data type for geographic coordinates (i.e. latitudes and longitudes) that would e.g. permit/facilitate formatting negative values as South and West, direct subtraction of one latitude/longitude from another, conversion of degrees-minutes-seconds to decimal degrees, properly formatted axis labels when using Excel to draw maps (at the moment, I am editing the axis labels in the PostScript file by hand, when I don't use chart labeller to paste axis labels in) and so on.

(Time formats could be used, if only they could be prevented from converting hours over 24 to days, which I have not found out how to do.)

Therefore: does anyone know of any Add-In out there somewhere that could supply the lack of a geographic coordinate data type?

I have 32 pairs of coordinates (X,Y). If I graph them using a scatter chart in Excel, I can see that it looks like they suggest a linear relationship between the points.

Other than printing the chart and trying to draw a "best fit" line manually, is there some sort of way I can get Excel to come up with the "best" linear formula (y=mx+b format)?

I'm trying to use DGET to pull coordinate pairs from a list and match them up to a label based on certain criteria. I can't seem to get it to work. I'm also thinking that the way I have it set up, the coordinate pairs might not stay together and that has to be the case. My criteria is multiple cell based too and I don't think DGET can handle that.

For example, In order for a coordinate pair to be labeled "B" the x coordinate must satisfy a condition and the y coordinate must satisfy a different condition. Can I use DGET with the AND function?
