View 1 RepliesIn an employee attendance file I am trying to count the number of times an employee has taken 3 or more days of leave together (continuously) in a month. My attendance file looks something like this

sun
mon
tue
wed
thus
fri
[Code] ..........
In the example above E001 has taken 3 continuous days leave twice so formula should return 2, for E002 & E003 the answer would be 1 each.
How would I go about counting the number of times TA shows within strings of text in a range within a sheet. Example: TA,MH in cell A2, CB,TA in cell C40, ES,TA in cell Q19. Result would be 3. Ideally, I'd like the formula to reference a cell that has TA as the look up data such as in A1 I'd have TA.

I have the following issue. I have a list of strings. Each string contains certain characters that are exactly the same for all strings, some characters are different making the string longer (in some cases). What I need to do is extract some combination of characters from each string. The strings look like this:
AB & CDE & FG & I mmmm yyyy.HIJK
AB & CDE & FG & II mmmm yyyy.HIJK
The part "AB & CDE & FG & " (incl. spaces) is the same for each string. The next part contains a roman count from I to VII, causing the length of each string to vary. The "mmmm" part contains the current month spelled in full e.g. December. This part differs as well, for each string. The "yyyy" part contains the year in four digits, e.g. 2007. The part after the dot is the same for each string again.
What I need to do:
- is to extract the month and assign it to a new string
- extract the year and assign it to a new string
- extract the roman number, translate it to a normal number (II -> 2) and assign to a string (or integer).
I am very comfortable with VBA but I usually avoid using formulas if at all possible (unfortunately, I have, formulas are unavoidable (by request).. so formulas it is)
I will try to explain
Column A is a list of dates (ever expanding)
Column B is a list of names ( multiple entries of various names but aligned with various dates)
Column H is a list of names (each possible name which can appear in column B, no duplicates)
Cell I1 = A Date
Cell J1 = A Date
(forming a date range)
Basically what I need to do is:
= COUNTIF(B:B,H2) - but only count it if it is withing the date range (>=I1 & <=J1)
I have tried wrapping it in an IF statement but I can't seem to get it to work.
I'm trying to build a formula that counts the amount of cells within a range that contain multiple strings of text within the same cell. I only know how to build a formula that snags cells that contain 1 but not 2 different ones within the same cell. For example: I want to count cells if they have the word BALL and STICK somewhere in the cell....see three cell examples below

Of the three examples: it would only count cells: gameballnetstick and stickball

I have a list of 267 individuals who are each in one of 4 class designations (A,B,C, & D). They produce widgets for me. The individuals’ names are in A2:A268, their class designation is in B2:B268; and the number of widgets they each produced is in C2:C268. Row 1 is a header row.
I used the FREQUENCY function, for the first time, to show how many of the individuals produced 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, and 60+ widgets last year. NOW, I’d like to take it a step further and show the number of individuals that produced widgets in each of these number groupings, but want it further split out by their A, B, C, D, class designation. So, I want to see how many individuals in the “A” class that produced 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, etc. widgets; and how many individuals in the “B” class produced those numbers, etc.
I’ve been playing around with using the COUNT and IF functions together and the FREQUENCY and IF functions, but have not been successful. Am I making this more complicated than it is? By the way, their class designation doesn’t have any relation to the number of widgets they produced, and the data is sorted alphabetically by the individuals’ names.
I have a column of race results in A:A, ie (1,2,3,4,5 etc placings) and need to count the highest frequency of 'outs' not wins (wins being #1 ) between wins, and also the highest frequency of wins in succession.

I need a count of all the distinct product types that each sales person sold.
I need the solution in VBA, as i need to run the macro through all the worksheets. The size of the range for each sales person differs.
I have got all the VBA done, except for the part where i specify the FORMULAR1C1 for the specific cell, to do the distinct count.
I have a signup record that expected to grow up to row 400. On the top, there's a monthly tally for reports. Column B to count the number of boxes taken and Column C for the users picked up the boxes.
Users should be accounted as one appearence in a month, regardless re-appearance in the same month or different month.
I haven't found the generic formula to uniquely count the number of users regardless their frequency in a month.
NOTE: Timings, box numbering format and usenames are randomly generated. Any similarities with real subjects will be coincidence only.
I've been struggling for hours on what should be a simple formula. I have 6 columns containing various dates. On each row I want to count of the 6 columns how many dates were unique and after 3/15/09. I've been using the following formula however it still counts a cell even if it's prior to 3/15/09. =SUM(IF(FREQUENCY(A1:F1,A1:F1)>3/15/2009,1,0)). I've attached a sample file for reference.

Goal: create a count of unique entries within a defined variable date range
I have a data table with duplicate values and need to count unique entries, the result of which will be used in a calculation. Due to a requirement to track the counts in a rolling 30-day period, the flexibility of daily selecting the date ranges is a necessity, which is why I chose to use DCOUNT and feed dates into the criteria cells.
I've been attempting to use the DCOUNT function but I'm not getting the correct result.
Oddly, after duplicating the table and formula on the "Count Repeated Items Once" page, even those results are incorrect.
It seems, too, that COUNTIF does not like (accept) dynamic named ranges. Hard coding the range into the formula yields a result of TRUE, but using a dynamic named range gives FALSE. Anyone else experience this and is there a work around (that is, if I have not erred in its use)?
I have been trying to determine the maximum/minimum value and additional count from a variable range which then I can use to subtract the first data of the range; I have been able to do that for a fixed range but not a variable one.
I have Column A with random positive numbers.
I have Column B with random negative numbers.
I have Column C with random numbers.
I have Column D with random numbers.
I have Column E with random 0’s and 1’s.
I have a set of 1600 cells of numerical data on each of the columns and there will be times when the random 0’s and 1’s from Column D will have appear repeatedly before changing to the opposite number, fx, I will get 7 nr. 1s before I get a 0 (zero).
I have been able to obtain the values in 2 cells within a fixed range:
If the last 8 cells in Column D have been “1” then I do:
F1=MAX(A1:A8)
G1=INDEX(C1:C8;MATCH(9.99999999999999E+307;C1:C8)) ---(Which provides the first number of the range in Column C after Column D has changed from 0 in D9 to 1 in D8)
H1=(F1-G1)
If the next 3 cells in Column D have been “0” then I do:
F9=MIN(B9:B11)
G9=INDEX(C9:C11;MATCH(9.99999999999999E+307;C9:C11)) ---(Which provides the first number of this range after Column D has changed from 1 in D12 to 0 in D11)
H9=(G1-F1)
Additional to this, the COUNT has also been challenging since I want to obtain in Column I, the COUNT of repeated 1’s from each range of 1’s in Column D; and also in Column J the same but for 0’s.
Fx:I18 (size of the range of 1’s originated from D1:D8)
J93 (size of the range of 0’s which consist to be the next range before 1’s were originated)
I12X (size of the range of 1’s which consist to be the next range before changed to 0’s)
However, that only works for a fixed range and continuous updates are made.

I need to count how many times the word Test is in the range B4:H9 with
Range N2 = Test the formula below works if Test is only in the cell once.
=COUNTIF($B$4:$H$9,"*" & N2 & "*")
But I have data in cells like below, this is all in one cell, so how would I have it count all the times test is in the range when some cells have test 2 or more times in a single cell?

How can count the unique dates associated with the shopping centre using a Start date and an End date? Example below.

I am trying to split up a cell into numbers and charachters and place them in
separate columns, but the lenght of the number part varies as does the
content of the character part.
For example, one cell could be 5#, 10Tins, 4 lb, 100Pcs, etc.
I would like to be able to pull out the #, Tins, lb, and Pcs in to their
own column.
I have found this formula:
=LEFT(A1,FIND("-",A1,1)-1)
but it assumes some level of consistency, the "-" in the cell.
I need to separate the text in "A" to "B" & "C", however, the length of "A" varies. Here's an example.

is there a way to reduce spaces between text stings to one space only when there are many spaces? To make it worse, the number of spaces between the text strings vary. I am using Excel 2010.

I have a column, where each cell in the column has one of the following "ratings" entered as text:
excellent
good
fair
poor
How do I count the number of times "poor" AND "fair" are listed in the column? I used the following countif forumla to count the # of occurences of the word "poor":
=COUNTIF(SurveyData1stRoundSortedbyDoc!Y2:Y30,"poor")
...but how do I adjust the formula so that it counts the # of occurences of the word "fair" AS WELL?
I use the following CSA formula to give me the total highest intervals of zeros in a range. I understand how most of it works apart from one thing and that's how the data array and bins array give me the result.
=MAX(FREQUENCY(IF(H2:Y2=0,COLUMN(H2:Y2)),IF(H2:Y2>0,COLUMN(H2:Y2))))
So this is what I understand:
H2:Y2=0 - Returns TRUE/FALSE in the array based on range having 0 or a value other than that - ie{TRUE,TRUE,TRUE,FALSE,FALSE,FALSE,FALSE,FALSE,FALSE,TRUE,TRUE,TRUE,TRUE,TRUE,TRUE,TRUE,TRUE,TRUE}
COLUMN(H2:Y2) - Returns the column number {8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25}
IF(H2:Y2=0,COLUMN(H2:Y2)) -Returns the column number for every TRUE value
IF(H2:Y2>0,COLUMN(H2:Y2)) - This does the same as the above steps but returns column numbers for every cell that contains a value greater than 0
MAX - Returns the biggest number within the array ie =MAX({3;0;0;0;0;0;9}) would return 9
What I need to know is how the FREQUENCY formula gives {3;0;0;0;0;0;9}
I have a long list of products in an Excel column. I want to count the number of unique items in the list (the cells contain strings, not values).
I know I can use the "Remove Duplicates" tool in the Data menu, and then use a Count function on the resulting list. I wondered if there was an Excel function or formula that would do it, similar to the Frequency function that does the same thing with a list of values.
1. Counts the number of cells in a column with the same 18-character text string(Full String is 24) using a RIGHT( function.
2. Returns a 1 if there is 1 and a zero if the count is greater than 1.
I thought I found a formula that would work, but it's not working. Each month I have to count the number of service tickets that have arrived between certain time ranges. They want to gauge during what times we seem to get the biggest batch of service requests.
6 am to 10 am
10 am to 5 pm
5 pm to 6 pm
6 pm to 6 am
The format of the cells are:

The formula I tried for 10 am to 5 pm: =COUNTIF(B2:B677,">="&TIME(10,0,0))-COUNTIF(B2:B677,">"&TIME(17,0,0))
It gives a result of 676, and I know from manually counting that there is only 327 cells that have a time between 10 am and 5 pm.
I have a single column of numerical values that may repeat many times within
the column.
I require a flexible Formula:
Use an Input Cell for the specified and changeable Percentage(s) %.
Column may be filtered – so only take into account Visible Filtered Cells.
The Formula will calculate and Return the numerical range of values that fall
between the specified percentage % (using the Input Cell) e.g.; 70%.
The Formula should Return two numeric values: a Start Value and an End Value
– NOT necessarily the minimum and maximum per se BUT the MIN and MAX of the
values that appear 70% of the time in the column; therefore, taking into
account Repeat / Duplicate values.
The calculated Results: the two numeric values will be returned to separate
cells on a new Sheet.
I have a template that needs to show one of 4 logos. The logo shown is the ONLY difference between the four models (A, B, C & D). My life would be much simpler if the template includes all four logos, and a switch controlled the one logo they want to see on each model. But the way I first programmed it absolutely KILLED my processing times for the model's many VBA macros.
What's the best way to accomplish this objective without sacrificing my VBA?
