There are hidden spaces in cell a1 as well which are not needed, which i can get rid of using TRIM so that may need taken into consideration ??
In Cell A2 i would just like John Smith
In Cell A3 i would just like the 67
the number and . at beginning is not needed just the name and number (no brackets)
I have a document needed to be printed with some pages in the middle in landscape page type, the rest in portrait. If using Word it would be easier, but in Excel I cant find the section break to chage page setup separately. Is there anyway to do it. Currently I'm printing the document separately in portrait and then landscape with some page break added and page number modified. However it's quite troublesome and easy to make mistake.

I want to compare every part in the All Parts worksheet to see if the part number exists on the Active Parts sheet - if it's there, I would like it to return the value "Active" in column B in All Parts. I have a formula in column B in All Parts that seems to work for the first few, but as soon as it finds one that is active, the rest of the cells below all return "Active".
I have a directory folder with an active workbook and another workbook id like to copy data from. The Following macro opens up a file in the same directory, copies some data and pastes it in the active workbook. However with this code I have to specify the filename, 'Data.xlsm' in the example code. I would like it to copy data from the only other workbook in the current directory WITHOUT having to specify the name in the code, so just opening it up no matter what filename it has.
In addition I would like to extract the filename from the workbook im copying data from and paste it into the activewoorkbook in sheet 1 Cell A1. I had a look at getopenfilename function but cant seem to make it work for my purpose.
I have a bunch of contributions events and I am trying to extract the date ... for example. each line has "contribution 11/02/2011" or "contribution 12/17/2010" is there a formula that will pull out the date. this way I don't have to do it manually.

I want to create a sort of complex logging system for my work.
As of right now i use a simple temple. Column A has the job number, column B has drawing numbers. Each cell in column B has multiple drawings. So for example cell B2 might contain 101, 102, 103, 104 and so on or something like 101...104. Depending on the situation. The ... means drawings 101 thru 104. What i want to do is have a second sheet that has Column A be the job number but column B has just one drawing #, so an example would be . A1 = 10939 and B1 = 105, 107, 109..111. Sheet 2 would then have A1 = 10939, B1 = 105, A2 = 10939, B2 = 107, A3 = 10939, B3 = 109, A4 = 10939, B4 = 110, and so on. Is something like this possible.
I have a spreadsheet where the data held in column A is an export from another system and the exported data looks like this:

What i would like to be able to do is to split out the data in column A so that the text before the 'Stn' (but including Stn) are shown in column C with text after 'Stn' is shown in column D. i have looked at using =LEFT, =MID or =RIGHT with =FIND but the problem i have is that the text prior to the letters Stn could be one, two, three or four words and the text after could be similar.

I have plotted a chart through VBA and I am appending some information to certain data labels. This appended part is being turned a different color depending on if a corresponding value is less than or greater than 0.

In stepping through the code, I notice that it works until the color switches twice. So for instance, if the first 3 points are below 0, it turns the appended part of the data label red. Then the next point is above 0 and it turns it green. Then the next point is below 0, and at this point it turns the appended part of EVERY data label red (overwriting the previous green one). It keeps going like this until all of the data labels are either red or green, depending on whatever the last value is as it just keeps overwriting.
I have a cell located in $X$1 that is always populated with a person's full name.
I need to display their email address, which is the first letter of their first name then their last name + '@company.com', in another cell on Sheet2
So for example 'Bob Smith' would be 'bsmith@company.com'
How can I go into cell X1 of Sheet1 and copy the first letter & the remaining letters after the space in between the names and paste them into Sheet2?
I noticed that when I click on a cell in my Pivot Table a new worksheet pops up with the requested information (essentially a filtered version of my data source depending on what cell I clicked) is there a way for that information to appear on the same worksheet as my Pivot Table? And if so can I also edit what parts of the data source appear?

0010: Represents a Location

8200-70: Represents Expense Type
I also have 3 tables on the spread sheet, which explains what these codes mean.
I need a macro that will look at the numbers in colum A and return the three types of expenses so they dont have to be looked up manually.

The gap between each word and the word "US" is uneven. sometimes it's 3 spacebar apart, and sometimes 4.
I am trying the pick the part not including US. I tried =IF(ISERROR(SEARCH("US",A1)),A1,LEFT(A1,SEARCH("US",A1)-1)). It works but when I use match function to look up the word. It returns N.A. As the output is not just CTAC(4 characters), but 5 characters(including blank). The problem is the gap between between the word and "US" is different for each cell. so I cannot just minus the same character in the above formula (e.g. -2 if there is one blank cell). Anyone can tell me how to pick out the word and with only the number of characters in the word?(no blank)
I have sheets with names of people in columns....some married...some not. When they are married, here's a sample format...
Jones, Donald T | Baker, Sarah Jane | Jones, Sarah Jane | Smith, Sarah J | Jones, Sarah Jane Smith
In this example, I would like to be able to determine which of the Sarah's belongs to Donald w/o having to visually look at each record ( 100,000's of records). (FYI: the names for Sarah would/could be her Maiden Name and possibly a name or two from a former marriage). What I need to be able to do is match and extract the names of Jones, Donald T and Jones, Sarah Jane and Jones, Sarah Jane Smith and eliminate Smith, Sarah J and Baker, Sarah Jane.
In my example, Donald is in the first column, but can be in any column on a row so the name positions are random across the columns. However, the format for each column is then same...Last Name, First Name Middle Name(or Initial) with a comma always after the last name in each column. The length of the last name also varies.
VBA or Formula that will search the cells in the columns of each row and return the names (complete contents of the cells with matching last names) that have a matching last name for that row.
Question is this, "can a single cell in a column be divided into two parts?"

Not a problem with the Excel part, I can select each and every cell that I want, copy them and then...
Recording a macro hasn't done the trick as the code I have only copies and doesn't paste. I know I can edit the code to open Word but the problem is that when in Word, the data needs to go to very specific places, some of it goes in the header, most goes in the main body, I can't see how this could be done as there are no cell refs as in Excel!
is it possible to paste to say halfway in a sentence, in a macro?

I looked at the source code of the website and realized that if you notice (above) that the variables listed in the link (i.e year, month, day) are exactly what i need to change in order to get the data for a specific date. how can I accomplish this using VBA. so say I have in on an excel sheet year in column A, month in column B, and days in column C (time interval is constant so we don't have to worry about stime and etime). and i run the macro and it loops through each row taking year,month,day for all rows and saving the data as .csv or xls files?
