How To Find Matching Pattern And Retrieve Data From Adjacent Column
Jun 1, 2014I need to find and match patterns of strings in a column and fetch data from the adjacent column. I've attached a sample workbook with my sample data.
How can I find the appropriate matching pattern and fetch and fill data from the adjacent column from my source table to destination? I tried the string functions available and used SEARCH function to match the pattern and check whether it is available. However, when the pattern is found, how can I fetch the adjacent column ?
My attempt to code a formula using SUBSTITUTE, MID and SEARCH functions. Below is the monster formula I wrote - it works and returns 1 when the pattern is found.
Formula:
I need to return the matching pattern that is found. And with it the corresponding adjacent cell's value.

Retrieve Value By Comparing Column Data
Nov 6, 2009I need a macro to do the following:
I need Invoice # from column A to put in Column I by comparing Name in G and H with Name in D and E.
For Example
Compare Alfred Whitworth (Column G & H) in Column D & F would give Inv # 88530 ...this value will go in column I.
Compare Angela Owens and could not find in Column D and E so leave Column I Blank.
Compare Annabelle Deen would have Inv # 88740
And so on...

I have tried to use the vLookup formula, but when defining the range of the column (A2:A), it would return “0”. When defining only the range that contains data, it displays the correct information....

and so on..
So I'm looking for a formula that returns information to one cell. A formula that looks if in 'this' column you see the category code '1' for example, then return to me the money spent for ALL the 1's. It should return $17...
The table above is small just for demo purpose, my table has 8 category codes at the moment and the number of rows can be between 15 and 50 I guess... it's a monthly break down.
I would like to see how much is spent in total for each category...
In addition if possible, can this be done for two separate tables... We are two people, and I have two table recording expenditure.
So the formula would need to, from these tables:

Look up in both tables, search the two category columns for category '1' for example, then return all the $'s added together... So for Category 1 now it would show $49...

If you see the attached photo, the last entered data in column D would be 1, AA21 would be saying -30 (J205)

Jul 19, 2007I have two worksheets, in worksheet1 i have a table containing two columns, " names" and "projects". In worksheet2 is where I ask for the name of the project. How do I retrieve all the "names" in worksheet2 that have the same "project" to worksheet1.
I know I made a similar thread in here, but that one was answered quite quickly. Then I learned that my question was written quite wrong and so the answer didn't help me much. I thought about rephrasing the question, but I read that this is a one question on one thread forum.

Which when tried, surely worked a few months back. I am now using excel 2010. I tried the same again, but this time it does not work for me. Is there something else to do which has been changed in the new excel 2010 ?

I've got two tables of information here, if you scroll to the far right of table 1 and look at the left of table two, you'll see a common code like:
AMWG16=01_0211-20
AMWG16=01_0212-16
and these entries will appear multiple times as well
AMWG16=01_0212-16
appears twice and the data is different and will need to be added up
How can I:
1. Add up the data on each table with the common string such as "AMWG16=01_0212-16"
2. Take all the data that has been added up and combine the statistics, for example,
when its all done it should show
AMWG16=01_0212-16
in the first column, and then all the statistics from the two tables in the columns to the right.
I'm guesssing...
Since some entries appear multiple times, you will need to sum up all the unique entries for that value. Say:
AMWG16=01_0211-20
Shows up three times, you'll need to sum up all the values and this needs to be done on both tables

Nested Index / Match Array - Return Value In Column C When Matching Column A And B But With Few More Criteria
Jun 7, 2014I am trying to use a nested INDEX and MATCH array formula to return the value in column C when matching column A and column B, but with a few more criteria.

I am looking for the array formula to return the name of the person in column C who is in Cat 1 after the date in column B.
For example;
C7 should return "John" because B7 requests "January 15, 2014", which is after the value in B1
C8 should return "John" because B8 requests "February 15, 2014", which is after the value in B1
C9 should return "Andrew" because B9 requests "August 15, 2014", which is after the value in B4
The best try I had for the formula in C7 was
{(INDEX($A$1:$C$4,MATCH(1,($B$1:$B$4>=B7)*(A$1:$A$4=A7),0),3))}
This brings back "John" as desired in C7, but when copying down the table into C8 and C9 both C8 and C9 return Andrew.
I guess this is due to my ">=" condition in the Match formula and it is returning "Andrew" because "Andrew" is also after the date requested, but I cannot for the life of me work out how to get it to work.

Feb 25, 2012I have a few row headings on a fresh worksheet (called "New" like so for A1, B1 and C1 for example):

I then have raw data on another worksheet. This data has many column headings (more than on the "New" sheet) and the data for that heading in the column underneath heading. So the Date column will have say 50 rows of dates in the column. What I want to do in VBA is match the headings from the "New" worksheet to the raw data worksheet ("Data") and then copy and paste the data into the column under the row heading in "New" from "Data".
with the code for this? I have tried using MATCH and I can't get it to work. I'm also looking for an efficient way to do this I'm sure I am doing it a very inefficient way.

Sep 18, 20061) I have a Master worksheet that combines/appends data from 5 worksheets. The data in the 5 worksheets is cleared on a daily basis once data has been transferred (using a macro) to the Maser sheet.
2) I use the Match and Index formula for the 5 sheets. Column A "Symbol" being the primary value
Problem:
I have Matching column headings " Date" in 2 worksheets, I can only use date data from one of the sheets that contain the date column data. Here is the formula I use in the master to accept data from the worksheet

Sheet1 has the column heading "Date" that is linked to Master Worksheet column Heading "Date". Is there a possible way to re-write the formula where It can accept data from either sheets instead of only 1 sheet?

Feb 27, 2013I have a table, lets say from C4:J15. Basically all the column headers are dates(row 4). I want to input a formula into column D(D5:D15) that basically retrieves the column header of the first instance in which that row has data in a cell. So say Row8 has the word 'Medicare' in C8, and there is a dollar amount in cell H8, in cell D8 I would like to retrieve the column header of 2/3/2013 that is in cell H4(the header). If there is a dollar amount in the row, that means there is a variance, and I'd like to know the first date in which there is a variance so I don't have to search the whole row.

In my current macro, It displays most of what I am looking for, but not a duplicate ID if there is one. For example Screen, there are 2 IDs. My macro is only getting the first one and then skipping over the second ID. I would like it to where if there is a double or if it is there more than once that it gets all of the data.
