How Can I Replace Zeros With Blank Spaces During Calculations

I am trying to get excel to sum totals, but exclude answers that are outside
of a certain range. I can get it to do this by using =IF(Z8>0.5,Z8,0).
However, I need it to display absolutely nothing in the cells, rather than a
zero because it alters future calculations.

with the data in the attached sheet, I create several different pivot tables that need show the count of the information in the columns M:DU. My issue is that the data is sent to me from a third party and the columns contain zeros that cause the counts to inflate.

What I would like to be able to do is run a macro that will search out any zeros in M:DU and replace them with a blank cell.

Unfortunately the number of rows increases with every monthly reporting cycle so the macro would need to be able to accommodate for that.

Add Zeros After Formula Calculations?

I have A1 that contain numbers, B1 that contain number, and i want to multiply those 2 and at the end of result i want to add zeros on front. Let me give you an example:

A1 field has data :00.375B2 has data: 6.49 C1 has the multiply result of A1+B1: 2.43 (But i want when the calculation is done and have the result 2.4 to add 2 zeros on front and become: 002.43 or if the result is for example: 65.20 to add 1 zero on front and become 065.20 , and if the result is 102.20 do not add anything on front.

So in total i need to have the 5 digits of number.

Replace Characters With Spaces?

A range of cells contain characters that i want to replace with spaces. The problem is that the length of the string differs and also the characters differ.

For example, below a list of cell values:

GR
GRKR
GRKRKR
GRKRK1
GRON
GRONBL

As a result for the first value i want 2 spaces, for the second one 4 spaces etc.

Is it possible to do this with a formula? I don't want to use VBA for this if possible...

I need help looking at text in a cell that has [] around it such as [big red trucks] and copy that text to the end of the cell and replace the "space' between the words and add '+' signs so the result looks like [big red trucks] [big+red+trucks].

The formula below calculates appropriately, however, if any of the cells (E12,E14, E21, E22, E28, E29) are blank, it returns a #VALUE! error. I would like the cell to remain blank. How can I do this? The formula is listed below.

I have blank spaces between data that I wanted to fill up with the same info as a group. the problem is it is not in a fix format.

I have a worksheet where the user input data and i have to make a macro that exports certain cell from the worksheet to a text file without any separating symbol, just like “CONCATENATE and EXPORT”. This is not hard to do, i’ve done it already. But the difficult part is here. My customer wants this macro to be interactive with the user and with an AS400 server that takes the textfile and reads it to find the value of certain variables, something like the opposite process of CONCATENATE. The hard part for me is that if any of the cells concatenated is blank i have to fill the text file with blank spaces.

If the concatenated cells are:
|one| two| three| tour| five|

the exported text to the text file will be:

onetwothreefourfive

But if one of the cells is blank:..................

Removing Blank Spaces From The Beginning Of Cells

I'm compiling several old worksheets into a single database for a research study. The worksheets contain patient data. Some of the worksheets have the patient's last name, first name, and middle initial entered all in one cell like this: Smith,John R. Compounding the problem is the fact that sometimes the name is entered with a space between the comma and the first name, sometimes not.

I have formulas to break the name out into three separate columns "lName, "fName", "midInit". However, if the name in the original cell has a space between the coma and the first name, then the “fname” column will contain a blank space in front of the name. This is problem because patients names can appear in the database more than once. Some patients are in the database several times.

If patient “John R. Smith”, for example, is entered in the database as”

“Smith” “John” “R “

and also as

“Smith” “<space>John” “R”


then the database won’t recognize them as the same name when I search for John Smith’s data. Right?

If so, then I need a way to eliminate the empty spaces in front of the first names. Like I said, some have empty spaces and some don’t. I could do this by hand, but there are over 1000 entries in these worksheets.

I am having trouble trying to figure out how to insert blank cells:

I need to insert cells, in columns B through H, equal to the number of returned IDs in column B.

Please take a look at the spreadsheet I attached.

Here is the code I am using to separate the IDs in column B so that I get one ID in each A cell. When I do this it separates them great, but then I have to manually go in and insert cells down so that the rest of the rows match up with the right ID.

Preventing Blank Spaces On Userform Textboxes

On a userform, I have three textboxes, one listbox, and an OK button. When the user presses the OK button, the information in these boxes is pasted onto a worksheet. I am wondering how I can detect if any of these boxes have been accidentally left empty, so as to prevent the user from pasting an incomplete entry onto the worksheet. This is what I have so far (this is part of the routine that executes when the OK button is pressed):

Zeros Not Showing, The Result Is A Blank Cell

When i put a "0" in a currency formatted cell, the result is a blank cell. If i put any other number in there other than "0" it shows a dollar amount of that value (even .00001 works). I have also noticed that before i put a zero in that cell, i can go to the format of that cell, select currency, and i see a sample in the sample box ($0.00). But if i go to that cell, put a "0" in it and return to the format of the cell, the sample box is now blank and it doesn't even show a $ sign. I know the "0" is in the cell because i can see it in the formula bar. But on the sheet itself it does not display it.

Chart Omitting Blank Cells & Zeros

Here is a question about the chart in excel. I have a sort of data where only part of the data is in numbers, and when drawing the chart, the whole range of data were selected. Then on the chart, there is a line drop to the x- array, anyone knows how to get rid of it? It is a line chart. Here's an example if i did not clearly describe the problem

and between 7 and 8 on x, the line will drop from 343.82 to 0, and i don't want this part, i want the chart to show to 7 and leave the 8 to 12 blank..

Excel 2007 :: Time Difference Calculations And Automatic Insertion Of Text In Blank Column

Please find attached a daily copy of a spreadsheet that is used to monitor train running times.

The columns on the left - "Serv No, Serv Start Date,Train No:, Scheduled Arrival, Scheduled Depart" are provided to us automatically and the underlying cell formatting/formula cannot be changed. This information is cut directly from a daily report sent to us the previous day. The cell formatting for the start date is custom - dd-mm-yyyy hh:mm.

The sheet is usually locked out with user access only to the left hand side to cut and paste train times in and the input columns on the right hand side. User has no requirement to adjust any details in the left had column apart from to add additional trains at the bottom is need be. I have left the loaded sheet blank and complete with all underlying cell formatting, conditional formatting and formulas intact for you to play with.

Both sheets essentially do the same thing so whatever formula changes are made to the empty sheet can be adapted for the loaded sheet.

For simplicity, I will focus on the empty sheet. What I am mucking around with is having the user input the train arrival time in the "Actual Arrival" column - (column F)

What I am looking at then making occur is the spreadsheet automatically filling the adjacent columns with the appropriate text and calculations.

To do this excel needs to compare column the number (cell input is text formatted) as a number with the arrival time in column G. It then needs to calculate if the train is Early (16 minutes or more before scheduled arrival), on time (+/- 15 minutes either side of scheduled arrival) or late (16 minutes or more after scheduled). It then needs to automatically place the letter "E", "O" or "L" in column K and the time differential in column L.

My problem is two fold.

Firstly, I cannot seem to make the spreadsheet automatically enter a letter into column K depending on the above conditions.

Secondly, I have had limited success in having the spreadsheet compare column J with column F and working out the differential. However, this only works if the time remains linear. IE only if the train runs on time or late. It gives an incorrect time differential if the train is early. I will attach this spreadsheet tomorrow as an add on to this post.

Referenced Cells Returning Zeros: Can These Be Made Blank Or String Data?

I have a summary worksheet consisting of columns that are referenced to other sheets within the same workbook.

If the cell in the 'referring' (original) sheet is blank then the forumula returns a zero instead of a blank in my summary worksheet, which is messing up some other calculations.

Is there a way to make these cells truly blank, or possibly into string variables instead, so that they do not interfere with my calculations?

Macro To Replace ONLY X's With Blank

I have a customer data file in which some cells have been completed with x's and I need to replace any cell that contains x's with a blank.

I can easily do this when the cell contains a single x by using find and replace within the macro, but some customers have completed fields with xx or xxx or xxxx and so on - these x's may be in upper or lower case.

I can't just replace all instances of x (or X) with blank on partial cells as there will be company names or address details that will contain an x.

What I need is a way to identify cells that contain ONLY x character(s): so "x" would be replaced with blank as would "xx", "xxx" etc., but "XYZ Limited", "LOXX & Co." or "Essex" need to be left as is.

I can't even think where to begin on this. Anyone got any bright ideas or can point me in the right direction?

Find And Replace Blank Characters

I download several sets of data from an internet site. The only way I can do this is to copy and paste into Excel. The problem is, that all of the cells with numbers in them show up as text, and when I press F2, I find that there is a blank space at the end of each number.

Find and replace, searching for a blank space does not work - Excel "cannot find any data to replace". That function does work on cells in which I have created my own space at the end of a number, but not on these numbers. That leads me to believe that that "blank space" is actually some other invisible character that I need to be searching for. I've attached a bit of my data - maybe somebody else can identify my phantom character.

To get around this, I have been using the formula =(left(A1,len(A1)-1), and that works, it's just that it is a pain to create another table of 20-some columns with this formula, then copy those to values, then for each column convert text to columns to change the text to values, then search and replace for #value! where the original cells were blank.

Replace Empty Cells With Blank Space

I have many sheets in my workbook with many filled or unfilled cells... I want that any cell in my whole workbook should be filled with " " ie a space if it is currently blank (ie don't touch the cells which have some data) and as there are many cells in a sheet .. I don't want to fill them with spaces as the file size will increase... I just want to do this for cells A-1 to AB-200.

What is the way of doing this with a formula or programming ie without macros... (or is macro the only way?) What if I just want to do this to a sheet and not to the whole workbook.
