Incorrect Sumproduct Array: Sum Up The Total Number Of Hours Consumed On A Particular Activity Within A Specified Period
Oct 23, 2009
I am trying to sum up the total number of hours consumed on a particular activity within a specified period.
=SUMPRODUCT(($C38:$C176>=$B7)*($C38:$C176<=$C7)*($B38:$B176=$D5))
Unfortunately, the formula above gives me the total number of activity and NOT the total number of hours within a specified period. I attached the file I'm working on as reference.

I am stumped on a formula answer I am getting on a simple timesheet. The timesheet is set up with an In and Out column for each day and person for the entire month. A formula calculates their total hours worked on a daily basis, minus their lunch (30 minutes per day). So far, so good.
The trouble comes when I try to sum the hours worked for the entire month. I am getting an incorrect total. The example I am working I am summing E3:BN3, which show the employee working 15 days in a month, 12 net hours per day. 15x12=180 hours a month. My sum total is showing up as 300:00:00. It may help to know we use a 24 hour format. I have the results cell formatted as [h]:mm.

I'm sure that there had been an error somewhere but I can't figure it out. I'm getting zero value. Situation: need to count number of leaves within a specified period, thus I opted to use Sumproduct.

I am trying to find a way of counting the total number of days medical devices were in-situ for a fairly large dataset.
The worksheet has a few thousand rows. Column A - unique identifier for patient; column B - date inserted (Aug 02 - Aug 13); column C - date removed or audit date. There is no missing data, all rows have both dates. Some devices in for few days or weeks, some for up to 7 years.
I want to count each 12 month period (starting 1 Aug 02) the total "device days" for that year. (e.g. if device inserted 1 Feb 03 and removed 1 Apr 03, in year period starting 1 Aug 02 would have been in for 59 days. Another device inserted on same day and not removed until 9 Sept 05, would for first period (01/08/02- 31/07/03) 181 days, second period 366 days, third 365 days and fourth (01/08/05-31/07/06) 39 days). Therefore for the two rows, the first period total would be 240 days (59+181).

I have a base of workers which log each day their activities in hours (D01-D11). I would like a macro to sum total hours of each project (project numbers are from 320-516) and put it into the table on the left.
For example: For PERSON 1, I want that the cell I60 writes 10, and cell I74 = 6. For worker 2 (PERSON 2) would be AK60 = 3,5; AK67 = 8 and AK74 = 8.
In total where would have been 10 workers.

I have what I thought was going to be a simple function to create and, after a week of getting more error messages than I've had in a year, I'm ready to throw in the towel. Situation: There are two worksheets in the same workbook [Excel 2003]. One is for "Posting" details about technicians and their work orders. The other is a "Report" that summarizes the number of workorders open, closed, etc.
In the "Posting" sheet, I have created dynamic name ranges for two columns: Technician (4-digit text field) and InDate (date field that, if blank, means that the technician has not closed this work order. My ranges are set up like this:
Technician=OFFSET(Posting!$B$2,0,0,COUNT(Posting!$B:$B),1)
InDate=OFFSET(Posting!$D$2,0,0,COUNT(Posting!$D:$D),1)
So all I need to do is to total all the blank InDates for each Technician by employee number. I've tried COUNT to SUMPRODUCT. A co-worker got it to work with using...=SUMPRODUCT((ISBLANK(Posting!$D$2:$D$65307))*(Posting!$B$2:$B$65307=4288))
His solution was to list almost every available cell in each column. I just can't help but think that the dynamic name range should be able to work but I can't get it right. I think I'll choke if I get one more "N/A" or "VALUE! error.

1) The output of an excel duration is : 22.00:8.00:25.00 ( day:hour:minutes ) - excel cannot average and work with this number format
2) resolution - =(LEFT(L2,4))+MID(L2, FIND(":",L2)+1,4)/24+MID(L2, FIND(":",L2,7)+1,4)/1440 as an array and Custom Format the cell as [h]:mm - works perfectly.
Q: to be conistent, the initial reporting is dd:hh:mm and then I convert to hh:mm so that excel can process the data. How can I convert from hh:mm to dd:hh:mm so that the excel report can be consistent in presenting the data to senior management?
example attached.

I need also to calculate difference between dates(dd-mm-aaaa hh:mm) in workhours ( hh:mm):
The work period is 9-18 with lunch interval 13-14 The startdate and end date could be out of the work hours and i can't include the extra hours. I can have several days (workdays) at the difference, but i should maintain the format hh:mm.
Ex1:
Startdate 05-03-2013 18:34 ( date to calculation should be 05-03-2013 18:00)
end date 06-03-2013 10:30
Time Difference 1:30 ( from 9 to 10:30 of 06-03-2013 )
will be equal to:
Startdate 06-03-2013 8:34 ( date to calculation sould be 06-03-2013 9:00 )
end date 06-03-2013 10:30
Time Difference 1:30 ( from 9 to 10:30 of 06-03-2013 )
Ex2:
Startdate 06-03-2013 12:01
End date 06-03-2013 14:28
Time Difference 01:29

I have a list of about 2,500 entries containing information of all my works leave requests for 2009. This list contains more than one entry per employee, as it shows all their individual requests for different weeks. The list is compiled pulling through data from other worksheets. It looks like this...
Sheet Name: MASTER
Column A = Line Managers Surname
Column B = Employees Surname
Column C = Employees First Name
Column D = Employees ID Number
Column E = Week ending
Column F to L = Days of the week
Column M to O = Request Type
Column P = Number of days requested for the week
I then have another sheet (Called REQUESTS) with all the employee names (1 entry for each employee), ID numbers and total requests for the year. This looks like this...
Column A = Line Managers Surname
Column B = Employees Surname
Column C = Employees First Name
Column D = Employees ID Number
Column P = Number of days requested for the year
Column Q = Number of days requested for the summer
I know how to locate and add up all the requests for each individual for the whole year (Column P) from the MASTER sheet to the REQUESTS sheet by using the flowing formula for each employee.
=SUMIF(MASTER!$D:$D,D2,MASTER!$P:$P)
But I don't know how to ask Excel to find and add up all the total requests for only the summer period (Column Q). What I want Excel to do is this................

I am trying to do a sumproduct formula with hours and it is not calculating right.
Here is my current formula:
=SUMPRODUCT(([Productivity.xlsx]Occupancy!$A$2:$A$5000>=$C$1)*([Productivity.xlsx]Occupancy!$A$2:$A$5000<=$C$2)*([Productivity.xlsx]Occupancy!$B$2:$B$50ry00=$A4)*([Productivity.xlsx]Occupancy!$C$2:$C$5000))
My values in Column C that I am trying to get the sum of are:
1:24:49
:59:08
:58:46
1:39:19
1:10:08
1:13:15
1:04:23
1:43:04
1:23:55
1:48:11
1:42:41
The result of the sumproduct I am currently getting is 7824:00:00, however when I select the above values, Excel is showing it should be 13:09:45 in the status bar, which seems accurate.
I am not sure what I am missing to get this same number.

I maintain a class register in Excel to monitor student attendance. The first row shows the date of the class in the form dd-mm.
I need to identify all dates which fall on a Monday and thought that if I custom formatted a new row as "dddd" and enter the formula =DAY(cell ref) into the cells of this new row it would achieve this- I could easily spot the Mondays for the period under review.
What I'm finding, however, is that the formula seems to incorrectly state that 16th September 2008 is a Monday whereas it's actually a Tuesday- utterly bizarre!
I can get a fix simply by modifying the =DAY() formula by adding 1 to my formula [ie =DAY(A1)+1] but am wondering is this a "so called known issue" with Excel or has anyone else come across it? I have never previously come across this and consider myself to be an above average competency level user of the application.

I want to add the numbers of hours in a 4 week period. I have used the following formula (from this site) to total according to month but I don't seem to be able to adapt it to change it to only add hours between 2 dates or for the 28 day period. I thought maybe I should be using a SUMIF but I can't get that happening either.
I have attached a simple file( I think!!)
=SUMPRODUCT((TEXT($B$3:$B$61,"mm/yy")="07/07")*($C$3:$D$61))

I want to keep a running total of hours.
I know what to do when I add them- if the number is positive then a payment is due, if its 0 then the employer is "Up to Date" But what if they pay me more than they owe? I owe them hours, how can I have excel know that there is a surplus and to deduct the future hours worked from the surplus until i've paid it off?
I have my problem in an excel spreadsheet but I don't know how to upload so you can download it for reference.

column 1 Column 2
John Doe $4000
Mary Smith $ 500
But if I try to add the hour columns it breaks it out by the week the hours was charged
column 1 Column 2 Column 3
John Doe $2000 4
2000 4
Mary Smith $ 250 5
250 5

Ex. 1: 7:30 - 8 = [result] "-:30" mins
Ex. 2: 11:00 - 8 = [result] "3:00" hours
OR
How can I convert 7:30 into 7.5 [decimal] and then subtract that from "8" to get the difference?
I know this is an easy one, I have done it many times before. It's crunch time and I am drawing a blank.

I need to sum the total hours by project between two dates. There can be multiple projects and the two dates can vary. So...
In column A are the project # (say A2 001, A3 001, A4 002, A5 003)
In column B is Yes or No for each project (contract Signed?)
In Column C through Z, row 1, are dates (shows the Monday of each week)
In Column C through Z, row 2-5 (which corresponds to the projects 001, 001, 002, and 003 above) are the number of hours worked that week.
On a separate tab (lets call it MonthTab) is the start and end date for each month (Jan through Dec)
On a separate tab I want to SUM the hours by Month for each project (so for project 001 would need to go across multiple rows), that has a Yes in column two. Therefore the hours summed For January will be taken from MonthTab and be between StartJan and EndJan.
