Indent Data Based On Adjacent Symbol

Sep 21, 2007

I am trying to do some automatic formating of a list of data. I can accomplish 90% of what I would like to do via a simple keystroke record macro. What I cannot do is shift the contents of Column B based on the contents of Column A. Column B will have to be shifted to the right 1, 2, 3 . . . cells. Below is an example. Column A symbols as it relates to number of cells to shift Column B

Symbol......Amount of shift
-[-]..........0
--( ).........1
--[-].........1
---( )........2
---[-]........2
----( ).......3

I have included a sample .xls showing the Original Data and the Desired Output

Indent Based On Corresponding Cell Value

Oct 9, 2007

I am trying to do some automatic formatting of a list of data to create an indented BOM structure in a similar way to DDiddy's post "Indent Data Based On Adjacent Symbol" (Indent Data Based On Adjacent Symbol.)

But want to set the IndentLevel for Column B by values in Column A. I.e. a value of 1 in Cell A1 indents Cell B1 by 1.

Username shg posted some code that he suggests should do this, but I failed to get it to work. Can anyone explain shg's code or suggest an alternative that would work, preferably automatically upon entering a value in Column A?

I'm only just starting to learn Excel macro's, so please forgive me if this post is in any way unclear.

Subtotal Two Levels Based On Color Change Or Indent

Jun 25, 2008

I need advice regarding the best way to subtotal data that has been exported from SQL Reporting Services to Excel. Formulas are not exported with the worksheet and need to be re-entered. The data is contained in three levels, but second level is not always present (see attached). The Level 1 data has a "pale blue" background and desciptions start in column A. Level 2 data has a "Gray-25%" background and starts in Column B. Detail level data has no fill color and descriptions for it start in Column C. The detailed data should be subtotaled in the Level 2 line directly above it (if available). The Level 2 data should be subtotaled in the Level 1 row directly above it. If no Level 2 row exists beneath a Level 1 row then all of the detail rows below should be subtotaled in the Level 1 row.

I have looked at options for keying on the color or the column contents for triggering when to calculate the subtotals, but nothing that I have tried works. The attached sample file illustrates how the data looks after being exported from Excel. The number of detail rows may change at any time as new projects are added.

Named Ranges Based Upon Indent Levels & Entries In Column

Sep 19, 2008

I had an idea that I could use the level of indent in the first column to provide the name for the range. The easiest way to explain is with the example spreadsheet I have attached

Cells C5:C10 show how the naming convention should look like, basically Indent Level 0 returns a prefix (Sheet_Name_Prefix) and its corresponding row entry in Column A. Level 1 should return the last Level 0 name and its corresponding row entry in Column A.

I had a go at the code and it works for Level 0 but I can't get it to put to Level 1.

Sub Test()

'Dimension Variables
Dim RowTitleEntries As Integer
Dim NameLoop As Integer
Dim IndentLevel As Integer

'Set the value of RowTitleEntries
RowTitleEntries = 6

Data Validation - Creating Subset Choices Based On Adjacent Column Choice

Oct 27, 2013

I am limiting choices in a certain cell to a list via data validation (using data validation, allow - list and pointing to the source). I want to limit the next set of choices in the next column (in this example in Column C) for the user based on the choice made in the adjoining cell. For example to keep it simple I will use the following: if the user selected "Fruit" in B1, then the options in C1 would only show "Oranges","Apples", "Pears". If however the user selected "Veg" it would only show "Cucumber", "Lettuce", "Spinach", "Radishes" in the drop down in column C. I can put a prefix in front of the column C data validation list if that is needed to narrow down e.g. FR-oranges, FR-apples etc.

A B C
1 Fruit Oranges
2 Veg Lettuce
3

Data Validation source for Column B (H2:H4)
Fruit
Veg
Nuts

Data Validation for Column C: (I2:I10)
Oranges
Apples
Pears
Cucumber
Lettuce
Spinach
Radishes
Almonds
Peanuts

Find Company Stock Information Based On Date & Symbol Input

Mar 9, 2008

What I have is an output of about 30 worksheets of individual stock data in a workbook, all with the same column headings, laid out like the following (so that the Column Headings are stock data as recorded on the Date in Column A):
<Stock Name>
<Date> <Price> <Price to Book> <etc.>
with the stock titles also as the names of the worksheet.

What I want to do is create a macro that outputs to a single worksheet where I can input the stock name and a certain date for the stock, and then have it insert the appropriate row from the stock's worksheet underneath.

So, if I say I want the data for Stock A on March 24, 2007, I can input those two and have it output the appropriate rows from the worksheet.
Or, more generally, I can create a list of stock names and dates, and have the macro output that data underneath.

How can it be done w/o the need to have format painter applied line by line, of which is a very time consuming.

Combining Cells Based On Value Of Adjacent Cell.

Jan 11, 2009

I have been reading through trying to find a similar post but the nearest i could find was one dealing with numbers rather than text. This is how the workbook looks.
Column A contains a list of numbers based on vehicle types. Column B contains a list of vehicle names.

A B
1 Car,
1 Taxi,
2 Bus,
2 Lorry,
3 Skateboard,
3 Bike,
1 Motorcycle,

What I am looking for is the best way to combine the text from column B depending on the value of column a. the finished results would then end up as: "Car,Taxi,Motorcycle,", or "Bus,Lorry," etc. This is just a simple list.. The one I am working with has around 2500 entries. I have been trying to do this using the CONCATENATE function and IF statement but it's just not working..... My head is ready to explode

Scope1 NameA $100
Scope1 NameB $145
Scope1 NameC $115 $100 (I want the min value to show up here)
- (this would trigger a break between scopes, and provide a conditional format separator)
Scope2 NameE $450
Scope2 NameG $345
Scope2 NameX $415 $345
-

So every time I put a "-" I would like the MIN formula to trigger in (Row#-1,D)

Set cell fill color based on number of adjacent cell

I am doing a research with the following information. In column B, I have the name of the buyer company, column B cells that contain numbers 1, 2 or 3 opposite the company name in column B depending on certain characteristics. I would like to mark the companies in column A in different colors (or some other recognizable way) as described below.

columns result
col A col B col C
7 Materials Inc 3
7 Materials Inc 2
6 Rayon Inc 3
6 Rayon Inc 3
6 Rayon Inc 3
8 Commun Corp 1
8 Commun Corp 2
8 Commun Corp 3
8 Commun Corp 2
8 Commun Corp 1

I would like to have on output in column A as shown above according to the following criteria:

4: if there are only 1 in column C opposite the specific company in column B

5: if there are only 2 in column C opposite the specific company in column B

6: if there are only 3 in column C opposite the specific company in column B

7: if there are 1, 2 and 3 in column C opposite the specific company in column B

8: if there are 1 and 2 in column C opposite the specific company in column B

Any suitable function in excel or Macros that can work with the formatting, because I have tens of thousands of companies and it will take too much time to do it manually.

Conditional Formatting Based On Adjacent Cell?

Mar 4, 2012

I want the font of a value in a cell to turn green or red based on the value of the cell below it - NOT based on a set value or range like all of the other examples are based on. I want to apply a formula or condition to the entire table.

Column a has the date for each value, newest date is row 1 and oldest date is row 250. Column b-k has the number value for each animal species we are tracking. If there are more animals than the day before, the value went up and I want the font to be green. If there are less animals than the day before, then value went down and I want the font to be green.

There are about 250 rows in each table and I have 4 tables. I thought I could do conditional formating but I can only find how to change font color based on a set value. For instance, for each day there are over 10 turkeys, then it would be green. That is NOT what I want, see below:

Mon 5 no color change
Fri 5 color change to green
Thu 4 color change to red
Wed 5 color change to red
Tue 7 color change to green
Mon 5

date looks more like this - col a is date, col b is turkey, col c deer, etc

Mon 5 4 3 4 2
Fri 5 3 4 2 7
Wed 5 2 7 1 0
Tue 7 4 6 5 9
Mon 5 1 1 5 4

I would think this is similar to daily stock prices, if data goes up then it is in green, but if the price goes down then in red. Not based on purchase price (set value), but based on previous days closing price. For this report, I only care about the change day to day.

Dynamic Averaging Based On Adjacent Column?

Nov 2, 2013

I have a column with random values that are generated my my machinery.I should not sort them, because they provide me with the performance graph. Lets say i have column "A"

0
2
9
9.5
30
90
22
15
9
0

As the max value of this is 90, and its 10% of MAX is 9, which occurs at 3rd and 9 th positions.I need to find the average of its adjacent range, with zeros not considered. It has to calculate the max value in the column, find 10% of max and do average of adjacent column from the sl. no of first occurrence of 10% value in first column to the sl no of last occurrence of 10% value in first column.

the exact 10% value may not always exist. 10% of 90 is 9, but if the max value is 94, the 10% would be 9.4 which doesn't exist. then it has to take the nearest available predecessor in that case.i get values in decimals mostly and only some of them are perfect integers, thus this consideration goes with it,and also, my range actually is B14:B10013

i would most probably have the 10% value within the first 50 "non zero" entries and reoccurring somewhere probably within the last 50 "non zero" entries.
