Show Missing Values In Pivot Chart (line Chart) Axis?
Apr 18, 2013How can I add missing values to the axis in a pivot chart line chart? I have a numerical X-axis with values such as 0,1,5,8,14, etc. I have another set of Y values that correspond to the X values. If this was an XY-scatter plot I'd be able to plot X vs. Y and connect the dots for "gaps" in the X values. Since it's a pivot chart I cannot use an XY-scatter plot, I can only use a line chart. The line chart doesn't give me the ability to add the "missing" values, so it gives the impression that my data is more closely packed than it is. The data source is external to my spreadsheet, so I cannot add the values before creating the pivot table/chart.

Aug 4, 2014I have a set of data for hours of work. I want to make a simple Pie Chart: % of Hours worked overtime, and % of work not overtime.
The Data Looks something like this:
Name,Normal Hours Worked, Overtime Worked
David,8.0,3.2
Anne,8.0,1.3
Danny,7.0,0.0
Harry,8.0,3.0
Edward,8.0,2.3
So I want a pie chart that has 2 wedges.
~25% labeled as overtime worked
~75% labeled as normal hours worked
Whenever I put these values in the pivot table and use SUM, it is trying to sum based on # of hours matching, instead of by the column Name... so it gets divided into a bunch of different pie wedges.

Ideally I wanted the sums by date to be displayed horizontally and not vertically as shown in the picture, but was unable to do so. Anyways, I want to be able to filter those dates, so I can display data just from an specific date, and then change this date whenever I want and the new data will show up.
I tried doing by the checkbox that appears under the "data" dropdown on top of the column; However, when I uncheck a specific date, it dissapears and I have to add it again if I want to see it. Is there a way to keep the values on the dropdown even after I uncheck them? Or even another way to filter the information? Below is the pic of the dropdown I get when trying to sort the data, But as I said If I uncheck one of the values, it dissapears from the list.

Pivot Table With Dynamic, Updatable Chart, But Not A Pivot Chart!
Dec 19, 2008My boss wants me to design a dynamic, updatable chart in Excel 2003. I initially made a Pivot Chart based on a Pivot Table which worked perfectly, but it doesn't look professional enough when printed (or viewed) and she wants me to approach it a different way.
So, I created a graph based on the data in a Pivot Table, and used dynamic ranges as the source for the graph series so that the chart updates when the criteria fields are changed for the Pivot Table. I then added two combo boxes (ie data validation lists) to the Chart sheet, and wrote VBA code so that whenever the combo box values are changed, the Criteria fields for the Pivot Table on the 2nd sheet are updated accordingly, and this in turn causes the graph to be updated as well.
This solution also worked perfectly, but now I've been told to create the graph without macros.
Does anyone have any suggestions? The requirements/details are as follows:
1. The Pivot Table is on sheet "PIVOT", and the graph is on sheet "GRAPH"
2. The Pivot Table has two criteria - School Name and Year Level
3. On sheet "GRAPH" there are two data-validated fields, School and Year, which only allow the selection of valid Schools and Year Levels
Is there any way to make the Pivot Table update when values are changed in the fields on the CHART sheet so that the chart also updates, but without using code nor a Pivot Chart?
Pivot Chart Object: Find Any Suitable Object To Choose From To Make A Pivot Chart In Powerpoint
Mar 21, 20071) i have office 2003 on a laptop. within powerpoint, i can create a 'microsoft excel chart 11' object. to create a link to the excel data source, do i have to go through the odbc sql setup? it works, but i don't want my powerpoint to be dependent on some excel file somewhere. what are the other options to insert/make a functional pivot chart in powerpoint with the data also within powerpoint? the data as sheet option does not result in the chart being a pivot, it's just a plain chart. it has to be a proper object, not an image paste or a chart that updates links with the excel file open.
2) i have office 2007 on my other laptop. i can not find any suitable object to choose from to make a pivot chart in powerpoint. what's the best way to go about in 2007 version?
3) am i going about this the wrong way with the objects? should i be after vba code?
Pie Chart - How To Use Hide Values But Not Show In Chart
Dec 17, 2013 I have created a pie chart showing top 10 best selling categories. However, on this pie chart, I want %age of overall sales to be shown.
At the moment say I put in the following
Catalogue 1 100
Catalogue 2 98
Catalogue 3 92
Catalogue 4 85
Catalogue 5 84
Catalogue 6 75
[Code]....
I add Data Labels and select the percentages. This shows at Cat 1 having 12.5% of the sales (100 of 800 sales), Cat 2 having 12.25%, and so on..... However, what you don't see is the following data:
Catalogue 11 60
Catalogue 12 58
Catalogue 13 57
Catalogue 14 57
Catalogue 15 56
So based on 1,088 sales, Cat 1 at 100 is actually only 9.19% of TOTAL sales.
I understand what is happening, the chart is giving the percentage based on the data inputted into the chart.
I did consider adding an 11th category to the chart, which was the total of Catalogues 11-15. Whilst this does give a more accurate percentage figure (as now all sales have been inputted), it makes the chart look ****
Is there a way of either adding the 11th category, and then "hiding" it, so that the chart doesn't display it, but uses it's value to calculate Catalogues 1-10s percentage?
BTW: The reason I ask is that I could be dealing with anywhere from 30 to over 100 catalogues. So it's not ideal showing the others in 1 chart.
Pivot Chart Error: Unable To Set The _Default Property Of The Pivot Item Class
Aug 15, 2006I have created quite a nice little macro that;
drills through a lot of key figures, updates a pivot chart and copies the chart to powerpoint.
However it crashes on one particular data set every time with this error:
Run-time error '1004':
Unable to set the _Default property of the pivot item class

I can manually change the pivot chart to the keyfigure it crashes on and thereby workaround the problem in the macro. Also it works for more than 50 other keyfigures without problems.
Show All Pivot Items In Pivot Tables

I've been able to (with this help of this site) to use VBA to hide pivot items on all of these sheets using a list on a user form. Hide/Show Pivot Table Field Items. I now need to be able to show all the pivot items on only 3 of the 4 pivot tables, with the 4th pivot table being left untouched. For ease assume that my sheets are sheet1, sheet2, sheet3, and sheet4. The tables I wish to update are on sheet2, sheet3 and sheet4. The pivot table on each sheet is called "PivotTable4" and the pivot item is called "Business". The pivot item contains 12 business names (Business1, Business2 etc etc)
Is there an easy way of doing this? I've spent the day looking through the internet and various "Dummies" books but with little success, I fear that I'm obviously below even Dummy level
Convert Chart Into Pivot Chart
May 16, 2006Please look at the sample workbook below. The chart you see below is fine BUT I would like in a pivot table chart, so I could select any days on the pivot chart. I have tried it to do it myself but for some reason the time is not displaying on the pivot chart correctly. Any help please ?
P.S. If not possible then can we add a scroll bar or something?
Pivot Chart Changes Chart Upon Refresh
Aug 12, 2006I have created a pivot table and chart. The pivot chart consists of three sets of data from the pivot table. Two of the data sets are lines and the third data set is displayed as columns. I made the third data set into columns by right clicking on the data series line and selecting chart type. I change the chart type for that data set to a column and it worked great. The only problem is that when data is refreshed in the associated pivot table, the entire chart turns into columns with completely different formatting. Does anyone know how I can maintain the graph with the two lines and one column data set when I refresh the data?

Aug 20, 2008I am trying to add the date my charts were created. I have the date the charts were created in a cell then I added a text box to each chart referencing the cell with the date. On some of the charts the date is showing. But on other charts on same sheet, the date only shows when selecting the chart area of the chart but disappears when selecting other charts or cells on the same sheet.

I want to create a chart or graph that has a timeline of 24 hours, (in multiples of 1 hour starting at 07:00 and going right through to 06:00), and I need the times entered by the users to appear on the chart to give an overview of when these incidents are happening most.
I was thinking that the cluster or scatter chart might work but I can't figure it out. I don't actually need both X and Y Axis, just a timeline - is it possible?

Aug 21, 2008I have a chart with event timestamps (2008-06-09 14:48:15.973) and two event types (A and B) with about 12000 events in total. I want to show a chart (probably line chart) that plots the frequency of events on a time axis (e.g. very many event A last night, not so many today, etc). I figure two time series with A and B independently so user can compare visually. But I dont know how to efficiently convert the events into a counter/frequency of events variable/column.
Ive looked into DSUM, DCOUNT & FREQUENCY functions to make a new column that shows how many events have happened in the previous 10 minutes without success. DCOUNT/DSUM problem: some of the criteria fields are computed by formula (date column minus ten minutes).
Not Show #N/A On Chart X-Axis Labels
Mar 3, 2008I have a chart that feeds from dynamic ranges which contain whole rows of null enteries displayed as #N/A. The charts do not plot these enteries (as it shouldn't) however it does display the category label even if it too is #N/A. Is it possible to remove the category label if all data for that row is null. ie the label is also removed from the chart.

Taking onboard what you suggested I have "rethought" the layout and it is now in a single table format. What had stopped me doing this previously was the fact that I was not able to show 7 days a week for 48 weeks in columns. However thanks to the transpose function all the data is now more user friendly (See Attached Workbook)
You mention the data should be quite easy to manipulate from here, any ideas as I am struggling with the concept of how to display the data in a time series. I assume that it will involve some form of lookup function referenced to the table of times, but thats as far as i can get.
Hide & Show Chart Series Via CheckBox
Aug 25, 2004Attached is a simple chart and I would like Users to be able to tick a checkbox to show/don't show 'available' series. In the example If the User clicks for Group 1, then only Customer A's data is shown. If Only Checked Group B, then Customer B and C are displayed. If both boxes are checked, then all three Customer's figures will show. (Hopefully depending on what's ticked, the chart's scale would adjust accordingly)

It shows the cost of something every 5 minutes.
I have put this in a chart using offset but obviously i want to show the cost over the course of the day - because this updates every 5 minutes, the axis at the bottom (which has the time of the data) is massive and doesn't look good.
Is there a way to show the axis at an hourly interval but keep all the data in the chart?
Show/Display Negative Chart Values Above Line
Oct 9, 2006I have a spreadsheet where I track income (positive) and expense (negative) items and compare budget to actual amounts. I want to create a simple bar graph comparing budgeted amounts to actual amounts for each item.
However, when I do this, I see all of my income items above the line (pointing up) and all of the expense items below the line (pointing downward).
Is there an option I can select to just use absolute values for the items so they all appear above the line?
