What I am trying to do is to be able to paste 2 telephone numbers into one cell and subtract the last 4 digits of each from the other. for instance entering 4063219225-4063219297 into one cell subtracting the last 4 digits of each number to come up with 72 (9297-9225).

On my workbook, I have vacation leave, sick leave, and overtime to figure in. I want to be able to have a choice to choose which you would like to keep at the end of the week. Such as if you were to work 8 on Mon, 8 hours on Tues, 10 hours on Wed, and then take vacation leave on Thur, for 8 hours, and then work 6 hours on friday, I need a way to choose whether to be paid for the overtime and vacation time, or to subtract two hours from my overtime and add it to my regular time, i.e. 40 hours, or subtract two hours from my leave time and add it to my regular time. I know this sounds complicated, it is at least to me.

Question is, lets say, i have a total of 4 group box. if i want it to work in such a way where by once 2 option buttons are being selected (1 option selected from each group box), the rest of the option buttons in the 4 group box will be greyed out. is that possible?
On the attached Excel file, I have code that will insert a variable number of rows and copy and paste from and to variable positions. That all works fine when run from a command button, but when I try to run it from the Worksheet_Calculate by entering 1 in J1 or K1 (inrange cell is J1+K1 for testing purposes) the CommandButton1_Click sub runs continously until an error occurs.

When I take 11/18/1900 from 11/18/1968 and format the result to get a number with no decimals the result is 24835 as it should be; but it does not seem to work for dates earlier than 1/1/1900.

Several thousand rows, column A is name, column B is city, column C is $.
I want to see the max, min, median for all first names.

=SUMPRODUCT(min((Name=Joe)*($))) - will not work, zeros come through, even if there are no 0's for Joe

I have a column of equipment average utilization percentages. This column is a dynamic name range called "Avg_Util".
Values in this range were created by a calculation that results in a value of "", for equipment which have no utilization as yet, to those with a utilization of anywhere between 16% to 160% for those with actual hours in service.
I need to count how many have a utilization of <=50% and those that have a utilization of >=150%.
COUNTIF didn't work because it apparently counts the "" values (as zeros?)? I didn't fare much better with SUMPRODUCT either, but that could just as easily be the fact that I'm still new to that function. I get the feeling I'm overlooking something regarding working with percentages here to be having so much difficulty with something that just doesn't seem like it ought to be that hard.
I have a Lookup table with a Group and Subgroup field. I have created a range for the Group and also for the Subgroup. On my main page, I have created a list option which allows the user to select the items under Group (Day, Colour and Time).
What I want next to do is based on the primary selection for Group; I want it to filter it on the specific Subgroup. For Example,
The User selects Colour from Group, the Subgroup will subsequently only show the appropriate selection which is Green, White and Yellow, and no further selection.
I'm trying to figure out a way to group columns in a bar graph without displaying them in a cluster, but instead in displaying them individually in a specific order. However, I still want to identify each group with a different color. This is hard to describe, so I'll try my best to illustrate what I'm trying to do with an example. Assume I have three groups of data and within each group I have 2 to 3 items in it with different values. In a list the data would look like this:
Group 1 - Item 1 - $2,000
Group 2 - Item 2 - $1,100
Group 1 - Item 3 - $2,200
Group 1 - Item 4 - $3,200
Group 3 - Item 5 - $1,800
Group 2 - Item 6 - $1,200
Group 1 - Item 7 - $2,500
Group 3 - Item 8 - $2,800
What I want to do is create a bar graph that will still allow me to color all group 1 items as red, all group 2 items as blue, and all group 3 items as green while still showing each bar sorted in the order I've shown above and labeled as items 1 through 8. Then, I want a legend to only show the groups 1 - 3 with their colors. To explain, the graph would look like this:
Bar 1 would be labeled as Item 1, with a value of $2,000, and colored red
Bar 2 would be labeled as Item 2, with a value of $1,100, and colored blue
Bar 3 would be labeled as Item 3, with a value of $2,200, and colored red
Bar 4 would be labeled as Item 4, with a value of $3,200, and colored red
Bar 5 would be labeled as Item 5, with a value of $1,800, and colored green

(By the way... I know I can do this manually by selecting each bar and customizing the color, but I want an automated way of doing this to reduce maintenance time)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a global dataset where column A represents longitude, B represents latitude, C is a spinup value which can be ignored (even deleted) and columns D to DH are runoff values for the years 1901 to 2002. The rows extend down to 6510 (including the column headers, 6509 without). I've been trying to create a reformatted table based on this data, where longitude values are listed along row 1 and latitude values are listed in column A, with the corresponding runoff values for each year correctly repositioned into the spreadsheet according to this new 'format'; there will be 102 grids created (one for each year). The longitude values are currently not ordered and will need to be sorted (low to high) into position along row 1, without causing the runoff data to become unassigned to its associated longitude and latitude coordinates.
The second part is to then perform a linear interpolation of the reformatted data for each year's table so that the data is again reformatted' from 1.5-degrees to a 5-minute spatial resolution. This involves creating tables for each runoff year as before, but this time creating new values via application of a linear interpolation between each adjacent pair of existing values (in both the x and y direction - as the data are to be imagined as being on a geographical grid with coordinates). I've currently been trying to achieve this using Fortran, but have been getting nowhere as I'm completely new to this programming language, so I thought I'd try using Excel as I'm more familiar with this, although not sufficiently so to solve this alone!

The array has been named SelectionSort and I need to call the first and last index position of the sorted array in order to preform a binary search on it. View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm analysing some data sets with variable content, and need to insert blank rows every so often to provide space to do some analysis. The problem I have is that the position of the blank rows change according to the data set, I have been able to calculate how often the row needs to be inserted using VBA as part of my import routine and saved this value to a cell, but I cant figure out how to write the VBA which will insert rows using this value and stop at the end of the data set.
In the attached example I need to insert a row each time the data in column 2 (name) changes, this is the value I have calculated which in this example is 7. So in this attached file I need to insert a row in row 2, row 9 and so on etc. But this is what changes depending upon the "Product" held in colum 1.

Column A: "IN TIME"

I have a date in cell D1 - today().
I need to search for that date in a column between range AA2 and BN2. When it finds the date (let's say it finds a MATCHing date in AA2), it will then search that entire column cells AA30:AA1920 and look for "server". When it finds "server" it will then grab the in time which will always be 4 cells directly above where it found the position ("server"), and then the name of the person, which will always be in column X, 6 cells above the position.
There will be multiple instances of "server", and I want to populate the columns A, B, C with all the servers it finds first for that day with their name, in time and position. then a blank row.
Then, I want it to find "Bar" positions using the same formula and method, and populate that right below the server data, then find "line", etc.
Ultimately, I'm trying to make a daily staffing plan, where all the people that are working on that date, it will show their in time, name, and position in columns, A, B, C as far down as necessary.
However, I'd like them auto grouped together by position, so I'd like the formula to somehow populate all the servers first, then all the bartenders, then hosts, then line, etc.
I am trying to set up a spreadsheet to calculate margin on stock positions.
There are 3 tiers, based on number of shares. My example:
400 shares in held in total.
1st 200 shs margin at 10%.
next 100 shs margin at 20%.
everything above 300 shs (ie 100) margin at 30%.
The 400 shs may be made up in any number of ways, (ie lots of smaller amounts) and i need a formula to give me the margin amount on each position, flexible enough for when positions are added / removed.
I've been looking at SUMPRODUCT but can only seem to make it work for the total, not each individual position.

A user need to just key in the number, press tab (or any other button) and group for that number
must be displayed (depending upon the compostion of that numbers).
What I can think of is to first seprate each digits from the given number, verify it and then filter them through the groups to get the final group.
I need to list all freeze pane position from every sheets in my workbook in order to reverse a "unfreeze all" function. I don't know if i need to be more specific ?
Situation : I have a workbook with many sheets. Every worksheet has a different freeze pane position. I hate freeze panes, so while i'm working in a workbook, i remove them all. My boss likes those ones so i want to give him back my work with the same layout.
The main thing i don't know here if how you ask Excel to fetch freeze pane info. Ideally the information will be reported in a new sheet, columns : Sheets, HorizontalFreezePanePosition, VerticalFPP...
Once i will have this list, i will create a new macro and set back freeze pane individually.
Every month we have to reconcile our checks and then enter them into our application. We have an option in our application that we can do Check Number ranges. We are trying to find an away to have excel to put the checks in ranges either by a formula, a micro or a pivot tables. We have over 700 checks each month to reconcile.

I have a dollar amount, and I want to know if any combination of dollar amounts in a particular range of cells will equal that dollar amount. Is this possible in Excel?
Example: I have 20 different dollar amounts in a column. I want to know what combination of those 20 different dollar amounts, if any, will equal $257.97. The dollar amount I'm looking for and the numbers in the range will change with each use. I have forumlas that will look at this cell and take action of the month in a different cell is either 1 month greater (Frontmonth+1) or less (Frontmonth-1) than "Frontmonth". As we approach December I'm realizing that logic will breadown since the FrontMonth+1 would be 13, not 1 (January)

How do I enter a formula in excel 2010 that will give the total amount of times each number is in this group. Example : how many times (total) the number 12 showed up , how many times the number 27 showed, and so on for each number that is in the entire group of numbers, from 1 to 80 .

Very new to all this , I am a bit aged and need not to learn excel A to Z, just need to know what correct statements /formulas have to be entered to do what i desire.
I am only interested in the total count of the small bold numbers 1 to 80, each single digit 1 to 9 and double digits 10 to 80 will be in their separate cells. The large bold three digit numbers and dates/times will have to be erased (manually) before the calculation takes place.

I am trying to write VBA code that groups cells between blank rows and inserts a message if a string of text (a name) is missing from the entire group. I want the code to search cells in column A and group the cells between blank cells. Use the name I input in an input box as the search criteria and insert a message in the Column C next to the last blank cell in the group and then move on to the next group and highlight the cell in red with bold text. I am including a spreadsheet with an example of what the sheet should look like before and after the code is run.
