The mini project I've been working on does pretty much what I want it to do. It takes a list of script names and by providig it with the scripts folder/server and database the scripts are run and the log files are dumped in a newly created folder named logs.
Now that I have established how to check for the existence of a folder and creating new folders in Excel VBA, the next step is to check for the existence of a particular text file and if it exists, search the contents of that file for a specific word or sentence.
I need to know which objects and methods provide such capability [if any]
I am looking to automate a process where information is sent to someone in a text format and they in turn transfer that data to an excel file. It basically looks like this (but includes a lot more info):
Service Request #: 123456 Instrument Type: New Instrument Lot/Serial #: 123456 SR Type: Product Complaint Service Coverage: Maintenance Agreement
The info on the left (text preceding the colon) is always the same but the values following the colon can change. The excel file has all of the text before the colon and they just enter the information into the cells. I am looking to make it so that an Excel macro (or maybe a word/outlook macro) automatically scans the text document and sends this info to the exact same cells in excel every time.
The text file is actually a message from an Oracle database and I am not going to be able to make any changes to the way the data comes in.
1. Search an excel sheet "column" for a particular type of text and insert values based on that text (if found) in another column.
e.g I have column A1 to A10 with different types of text. I would like to search for the keyword "Risk is high" OR "Risk=High" for each cell in the column and insert a "1" if found beside it's corresponding "B" column. If not found, I would like to insert a "0".
So, if the text "Risk is high" OR "Risk=High" was only found in A6, I would like B6 to be "1". Rest of the values in the B column would be "0's", since the text was not found in any of the other cells.
I tried to search the forum first and but i cant find ways to combine everything i wanted to achieve. That's why i'm posting this to consolidate all those...Sample files are attached for better understanding. I have an excel file (sample.xls) which has cell values in column A. These values will then be used to find a match in each of the text files (in this example, sample 1.txt & sample 2.txt) present in the same folder with my excel workbook. I need a macro to perform the scenarios below.
1. Say, the excel file contains a list of cell values in column A. 2. Temporarily open the first text file (sample 1.txt) as an excel workbook. 3. Search each cell value in column A for a match in the first text file. a. If that certain cell finds a match, no matter how many it may find, that cell will be formatted with "BOLD" format. b. If not, that cell will be formatted with GRAY text color. 4. After all the cells have been used, the first text file will be closed and the next text file (sample 2.txt) will be opened temporarily. 5. Repeat steps 3 & 4, except that, when the cell value has "BOLD" format already, it will be skipped and proceed to the next cell. That is, the grayed ones can be turned back to black color and will be formatted to "BOLD" format if a match has been found in the 2nd text file. 6. If there are other text files present within the folder, do steps 2 to 5, until all the text files are searched.
Is it possible to write vba code that will generate a text file with ALL changes that were made to an excel file. Ex. If Cell A17 = "Monday, June 4, 2012" and a user updates Cell A17 to "N/A", I would like to know what the value was before and after the udpate was made.
I have a workbook with many spreadsheet named Sheet1, Sheet2 and so on. Each sheet is filled completely upto 65536 rows. This data is being picked up from a CSV file. In this file there are sites with each site there is a assciated set of data. What happens is the data that extracts data does not differntiate between sites and when it reaches to the end of worksheet it splits the data into next sheet. So I am trying to create a macro to check each spreadsheet starting with the last sheet in the work book for example last sheet in the workbook is seven it should go to sheet6 and if there is a blank row after row 64000 it should cut all the rows and move them to sheet7. Then it should goto sheet5 and do the same and keep on doing it until it reaches sheet1.
i have an excel file with hundreds of rows of product codes which i need to download images for. is there a way this can be done directly from excel? basically if cell A1 has product name and Cell B1 have product code, id like Cell C1 to generate a link that will use the contents of B1 as the basis of my google image search. can this be created using a macro?
So there's a macro "RoundedRectangle4_click" that's assigned to a box on a worksheet. It's a simple macro, I assume. it just takes the user to the 'Main Sheet' tab. I know the name b/c I rightclicked on the box to get the Macro Assigned.
I click on Macros (F8), it's not listed there, but"RoundedRectangle5_click" is, so I click on it, edit it to match the one I'm searching. Nope, nothing. CREATE button is highlighted.
I've gone to VBA (AltF11) to try to find it among the 25+ worksheets, forms & modules - haven't found it yet.
I have a macro that takes a text file as input and produces an excel file as output. I want a macro to store the name of the text file in a variable (without its file extension).
As I am looping through files in a folder, I would like to determine if the file is a text file.
The problem is that all extensions are variable in a pattern such as .078, .051, etc.
In this instance, the extensions are numeric, but I'm trying to figure out a way to handle that is all encompassing to include *.txt, *.tsv, *.csv, *.prn, etc......
I have some daily text files in a folder (so about 30 of them each month), which in the end of month, I need to open them up in excel, format them so that I can use the information for my analysis.
I would like to create a macro, to quickly open them all up at once and save them each individually in .xls or .xlsm format.
I am new to VBA and after some research online, I was able to have the files open with the following code. but now I don't know how to proceed further to save them one by one with the same name but in .xls or .xlsm format.
Sub Opentxtfiles() Dim MyFolder As String Dim myfile As String
I need code for a search box function, that returns the information recorded in a cell for example, "Barcelona" or "London" etc), instead of the location of the cells.
I will need to narrow it down to search only the information in the following columns:
Sheet2 I2:J10932
I am totally new to VBA coding and have stumbled my way through a few things, but everything I have searched for so far has had at least one error when transposing to Excel.
I work for a company that has about 650 locations. Each location has a location manager that is responsible for submitting a Performance Review spreadsheet for all the employees at their location.
Currently I have an Excel file that has all employees/locations. One of the columns on my spreadsheet is "Location ID"...which is literately a number we've assigned to our Locations. I have an Excel template saved that I'd like each Location to open into.
Can someone help me? I need each location to be it's own spreadesheet...which I have a template created already. I'd prefer to find an automated way to do this...rather than manually creating 650 spreadsheets.
I'd prefer to do this in anoter application, such as MS Access, but senior management already made the decision this will be done in Excel...so I'm stuck with what I got.
I have an existing spreadsheet with a column of strings (actually VIN numbers). These numbers correllate to a bunch of text files, that can exist in one of three folders (UsernameDesktop1, 2, or 3) on my desktop. What I need the macro to do is:
1) get the filename from A2 (A1 is a heading row) 2) Find the appropriate text file in one of the three folders 3) Put the folder name into I2 4) Scan the text file for some strings, and copy some data that follows those strings into J2:O2 (I can handle programming this) 5) Close the text file 6) repeat above for the remainder of filenames (about 1800 files)
The attached file "Temp.xlsm" has been provided to me. I need to generate two files from it - 1) csv 2) a text file in a certain format. It should basically look liked the attached file "InFile.txt" which is an input file for a modelling tool. The arrays and struct strings need to be within brackets and it only contains inputs. Outputs don't need to be generated.
With the code in "Temp.xlsm" so far I have been able to generate attached file "Temp.txt". The only missing bit is the formatting of arrays and structures.
I have a large text file that is generated daily and want to import into MS Access as the end result.
First I need to reformat into the row format in excel rather than the format it is in. The issue is not all the segments are the same number of lines or they may have mutli message lines. The names with colon : after them I want to be field names in the table which I wish the text file to import into. Please, I am looking for assistance with this.
I have attached sample data of the text dump, and the name of the file is as you see but different date on the end. At the very end of the text file you will see the desired output which I will then import into Access
Also every new message begins with the dotted line and the date and time at the end.
I just wrote two macros that each produce separate text files (call them 'A' and 'B'). I want to open 'B' with Excel VBA, copy all of its contents, and paste that content into 'A' right after a specific location in 'A' (where I have 10 consecutive asterisks, i.e., **********).
Most topics relating to Excel VBA and .txt files have to do with either importing / exporting into Excel (not what I want), or with associating .txt files to Excel (also not what I want).
I am using Excel 2010 and I want to import data from a text file, but the problem is that the data is more than 1048576 rows of excel. Is there any solution though codes if one sheet fills up and import remaining data to other sheets ?
I am looking to import data in text file to Excel sheet. Here is the main catch - All the data are not of fixed length and are in multiple lines as in the example below.
Text File: ID001 Dr Dang 01012011 Male USA Married 123
Below is how I expected the data extraction in Excel: ColumnA ColumnB CardID ID001 Name Dr Dang DOB 01012011 Sex Male Country USA Status Married Pin 123
