I have a datatable which has a column containing up to 25 different text codes (which are currency pairs). I need to insert a specific number (as seen in the attached example) in a second column. This number depends on the text in the first column. I suspect this is very simple but at the moment, not for me!
View 3 RepliesI have three columns that each have a drop down of text options; column A has three options, column B has three options and column C has two options. I want to have a fourth column that will show a text value dependent on the combination of the three columns.
It ends up being 18 variations so my IF formula just won't compute.
This is basically the format I have and works for a few values then just chucks up an error when I extend it to all 18 variations:
IF(AND(A1="text",B1="text2",C1="text3"),"show this text",
IF(AND(B1="other",B1="other2",C1="other3"),"then show this", ) etc etc
Any way I can get this to work for all 18 possible outcomes??

I need a formula to run down a column DCapture.JPG (starting at 142), when it finds the last entered value it needs to display the corresponding value from column J into cell AA21.
If you see the attached photo, the last entered data in column D would be 1, AA21 would be saying -30 (J205)

I want to search for a word in column A and when I find it I want to copy it to column B.
Column A is a description that can be 6 or 7 words long. Column B is a single word.
Example:
Col A
Engine Kit, V-8, 306, forged.
I need to copy the word Kit to column B.
I need to sum values in a column, but only if the text in the same row of the adjacent column meets certain criteria. Below is a simplified version as an example:
A1 - Apple
A2 - Banana
A3 - Apple
A4 - Banana
B1 - 3
B2 - 2
B3 - 1
B4 - 1
I need a formula that will add up the cells in column B that have "Apple" next to them in column A. Apple would total up to 4 and Banana would total up to 3.
Any way to construct a formula in excel that will look at a reference in one column and find the latest date from the data in an adjacent column for that specific reference?
Below is an exctract from a much larger sheet of the columns in question.
The result in the last column should be 21/05/2014 for anything with D.O.001 in the second column and 15/05/2014 for anything with D.O.002.

I have been asked by my supervisor to make a performance review template a little bit more user friendly.
Basically what I have is a drop own list in cells in one column (various cells with the same drop down menu) that you select from either 0-10 in a drop down box.
I have another cell which I want to have a drop down box with text comments that you select from when. Only problem is the comments different dependent on the ranking score you give a person (the number selection in the previously mentioned cell from 0-10). So if you have a score between 9-10 in the cell then the comments box will give you certain comments to choose, 7-8 different comments and so on and so forth.
I have developed the following code to colour cells dependent on reference to adjacent criteria (in Col D).
Is there anyway I can simplify this code to avoid three separate "For each" statements?

I'm looking for the number of times "FB" and "Milton" occur in Column A when "PHOTO" also appears in Column B in the same row. From numerous searches I've tried figuring out VLOOKUP, DCOUNTA, etc.
The first two columns are an example of my data set; I would like a formula for the 3rd column (Length+1) which will give me the length at the next age (i.e the value in the cell below in most cases) unless the following age is 1 in which case I want it to return zero.

I have three rows of data (29-31) from columns D to Q.
I would like to take D29 and add each of the values in the adjacent columns exactly once and sum up the value D thru Q
For example I'd like to return not just Sum(D29:Q29) but also Sum(D29:R29)+Q30, Sum (D29:R29) +Q31.
I guess that might be considered a 1X3 matrix & and 8X3 matrix, but I'm not really sure how to set up the return values for these equations nor how to return them very quickly.
One has numbers the other has "YES" or is blank. I want a formula to look at the second column and where there is a "Yes" then count the number in the same row in the first column.

I'm trying to write a formula for column A that essentially looks at the field in column B, finds the instance of the data anywhere in the entirety of Column D, and when it locates it puts the corresponding field from Column C of that line in the results of column A. In two adjacent columns (E & F), I would like to record the daily max and min temperatures. I can manually do this with MAX and MIN formulas in column E and F respectively, MAX(D1:D144). But when I copy this formula to the next row, I get MAX(D2:D145) when what I really want is MAX(D145:D288)....and so on...

Formula to show the final/total a numeric values appears in an adjacent column.
I am currently attempting (I've researched many posts on this), to count /show the final totals a duplicate numeric value appears in one column, in an adjacent column (example below).
I am currently using an array Frequency formula below (courtesy of the board) filled down in column Q. this works well to count the frequency of duplicate numeric values appear on the list.

I have a drop down list in a merged cell B12-F12 and B13-F13 and B14-F14 . . . B30-F30.
I need the adjacent merged cell to populate a reason (text) based on the text answer in the drop down list or the entered text in the first merged cell. For example in the cell B12-F12 the user picks from the list or types in "Amiodarone." I want the adjacent merged cell G12-J12to automatically fill with "Heart Rhythm." I also want to be able to set up multiple if - them statements like if Amiodarone is entered then fill adjacent cell with Heart Rhythm and if Toprol XL then fill adjacent cell with Heart / Blood pressure and if simvastatin then fill adjacent cell with Cholesterol, etc. I have about 30 different options for cell 1 that I want to have auto fill in cell 2 based on the contents of cell 1. I've attached my file.
I want the user to be able to choose from the list or type the drug name in.
I have text in column A of either "xxx" or "yyy"
I'm looking for a formula so that If
A1: "xxx" then B1: $100
Or if
A1: "yyy" then B1: $150
So when I write "xxx" or "yyy" in a cell of Col A
then $100 or $150 shows up in adjacent cell in Col B automatically.
I will need to sum the numbers later so Col B will need to be in number/accounting format.
I work in a factory where we create different types of units daily. Below is a list of planned production on a specific date, say today's date. This is a very crude example, with information missing, and it is important to know that there are conditions attached such as:
The types are added randomly. The amount of types is much greater meaning that each type is on it's own page with breaks between. Everything produced on this date will have a URN (unique reference number) with its first 6 digits equating to yy-mm-dd and the last two being the position of the unit in the production sequence (first=01, second=02 etc).
I have gotten it to the point where if you enter them in sequence (Type A first for example) it will lookup to see the last assigned URN and taking the quantity into account issue the correct URNs.
The issues I have are when the URNs are less than "10", there is a problem displaying the 0 before the digit which disrupts the sequence. I can provide more clear examples if required.

I have some text in a cell, which is longer than the width that I am going to make that cell. When I don't wrap the text, it cuts it off at the end of the cell.
Since each column represents a day in a calendar, it would be incorrect to merge the two cells, but I don't want the text hidden, since I need to print the final product.
It is non-numeric text, and i've pasted --> values to remove formula issues.
how to Chk the text string in particular cell, compare it with a super set column and get the full from of the text string from another corresponsing column and the output will be corresponsing full form of the chked text string?

I am relatively new to Excel. I have figured out how to use named ranges as lists and use INDIRECT Data Validation to have a list's selection made in one cell populate a new list in an adjacent cell.
A1 contains a list of "Characters" (The choices are "Numbers", "Letters", or "Other")
Based on the choice in A1, B1 has to populate with the following:
- A list of available Numbers to chose from (1,2,3..etc)
- A list of available Letters to chose from ( A,B,C...etc)
- Text that instructs the user to enter text into the cell manually
(For example, their "Other" character might be something like "@#$%^&*!". (Not unlike my mental state trying to figure out this problem.) I want them to see the instruction to "ENTER CHARACTERS HERE" and then be able to type in the cell.
So I need B1 to either populate with a menu that is dependent on the menu selection in A1, or allow for free text entry depending on if they chose the "other" option in A1.
how to make make cell D4 dependent on the value in cell D3. So if cell D3 = 10 (it's max), then cell D4 could equal 0-10. I want to use this in conjunction with Solver so that D4 is a variable, but can't be greater than zero until D3 is maxed out. I've already tried different formulas, but I'm not very good at writing them and data validation didn't seem to work either.

I have a worksheet on which the data is already grouped. At the top of each group is a row that contains only the group name. Since the rest of that row is blank, I want to use a blank cell on that row as a reference, then copy the group name to a newly created column, then fill that column down to the next group.
The goal is to create a column that contains the group name, rather than just having the group name as a " header" at the top of each group.
Situation:
I have two drop down lists 1) Country and 2) States/province
Country has list: [US, Canada]
If "US" is selected, [Arizona ,Florida, NewYork] is listed in the 2nd drop down list
If "Canada" is selected, [Alberta, Ontario, Quebec] is listed in the 2nd drop down list
Scenario:
First, I select "US" and choose the states to "Florida"
Next I change the country to "Canada" and forgot to choose province
Then, the 2nd dropdown list is changed to [Alberta, Ontario, Quebec],
BUT the current value is still "Florida"
Probem:
Now I have "Canada" and "Florida" selected in the sheet
Question:
If the primary list is changed, can I make the 2nd drop down list to show a default value (e.g. blank or the first entry i.e. Alberta)?
