I am trying to do something that is probably impossible, but I figured if anyone could come up with a solution, it would be you folks here at Mr. Excel, so here goes.
I'm trying to set up two columns in Excel 2000; for simplicity sake, let’s just call them Column A and Column B. Each row in Column A will contain a code (a combination of letters and numbers) that represents one of 65 different workstations, and they could repeat multiple times. Each row in Column B will contain a number that represents a specific tool, and there are potentially hundreds of different tool numbers.
What I am trying to accomplish is to have something alert me when any tool number in column B appears alongside more than one workstation code in column A. It would really be nice if something like conditional formatting could be used to change the text to red or something when this happened. I know I can use filtering to accomplish this, but with hundreds of different tool codes, filtering just takes too long.
I receive an extraction from AutoCAD that lists the electrical devices in a drawing. I don't have any problems extracting the letters. I have a problem extracting the device number and the device number extension.
The device label extraction is similar to this: DCM1005-1 DCM1005-10 DCM1005A MTR1005-1 MTR1005-10 MTR1005A
I want to create 3 columns from the device label: (I separated the column with commas) A1, B1, C1, D1 DCM1005-1, DCM, 1005, 1 DCM1005-10, DCM, 1005, 10 DCM1005A, DCM, 1005, A MTR1005-1, MTR, 1005, 1 MTR1005-10, MTR, 1005, 10 MTR1005A, MTR, 1005, A
I have some data that is both text and numbers in the same cell. I would like to split the the data so that the text is in one column and the numbers are in another column.
The numbers are all a fixed length (15 chars) so I know that I can use the following formula = RIGHT(A1,15)
However I am not quite sure how to split the text as the length can vary as as well as the number of words in the string.
For example A1 is 1 word with 7 characters but A2 is 2 words, 14 characters long inc space.
I need to separate these lines into columns such that, for example, the first line would be in 6 columns: (Jackson, TN) (9623) (BCBS TN) (98) (UnitedHlthCare) (2)
The delimiter does not work because some of there is no one character that always separates the text and the numbers. I've tried going through in word and typing something like '%' where I want to separate, but with thousands of lines of data that is extremely tedious.
Is there any formula I can use that would be capable of solving this?
I just discovered VBA coding today and was wondering if I could use it as an audio alert. I found a couple examples online but don’t understand the coding language of excel. I have a feed link from my trading platform to excel that feeds in live data. What I would like to do is have an alert for when Range ("C4").select is >=1000 Alert Ring.wav and when Range ("C4").select is <=-1000 Alert Chimes.wav.
Each month I get a report that I process using a macro. The problem is that each month the name of the file changes and is different. When I run the macro and it crashes I have to de-bug by going through the code to change all references to the file name from the the previos run and change to the latest file name and then re-run the macro. There must be a better way.
I would like to learn the code that sees the open book and then refers to it for the run.
I'm trying to separate text from numbers into two separate cells...
Essentially, I would like the users to copy and paste data into Column A, as seen below. Then, hopefully by formula separate the text characters into Column B and the numbers into Column C.
Input: Output 1: Output 2:
Col A Col B Col C Wells 123 Wells 123 Wells 1234 Wells 1234 Wells Fargo 123 Wells Fargo 123 Wells Fargo 1234 Wells Fargo 1234 Wells Fargo Inc 123 Wells Fargo Inc 123 Wells Fargo Inc 1234 Wells Fargo Inc 1234
Ideally, I would like to do this with a formula...
I have a worksheet which periodically is cleared down to allow new data to be added. i.e. if 40 columns are in use 20 might be deleted. There is a calculation that depends on a named range which always changes when these columns are deleted. s there a way to remind the user to expand the named after any columns are deleted? Columns are deleted from Column H.
I need to make a list that has 90 people and each day I need it to pick 4 random people. I need it to keep rotating people daily for the entirety of the monthfrom the first day of the month without utilizing the same people over again. I not excel savy at all so I need it dummy proof
I have an excel assignment that has about 4000 orders for wood. I am suposed to find the company that ordered the most wood and of what kind. I am really at a loss for how to do this and have combed over my book quite afew times trying to figure it out. However it has little if any excel info and nor does the ** that came with it outside of how to install data analysis tools. I figure I need to find a way to get excel to combine the numbers together for orders from the same company but after trying for afew hours I have gotten no where.
I have a spreadsheet that lists numbers in a column. They increase 1 number at a time, however the same number is listed 24 times before increasing to the next. Scaled down to 3 times it would look like this: 111, 222, 333, 444, 555, each one of those individual numbers would have their own cell. When I highlight the column and drag down, it starts doing decimals..how do I get it to recognize it? sample.xlsx
I want to drag it down to continue the pattern. Right now, I type a couple of numbers and drag to finish the section.
See the attached xls. There are two worksheets contained therein, one with the original data, and the other showing how I'd like it organized.
I have rows of product data consisting of a product id followed by repeating attributes of quantity and associated price. I need to convert each product row to multiple rows of each quantity/price pair while preserving the id for each pair.
I have three cells in a column. A1, A2 and A3. There are only 4 possible numbers that these can have in them, 0,1,2,and 3. Here is the catch. None of them can repeat, although they can be in any order. And the column may only have data in the first cell or the first two or all three. Is there a simple macro that will alert me to when a number is repeated? It needs to be a macro rather than a apreadsheet function.
I am busy with a very large dataset +-20 000 records showing the movement data and I am having problem with inserting missing data: I have columns titled day hour and position, but multiple records for each as data was initally recorded by second. Data looks like this
What I need to end up with is a sequential dataset running from day 1 to 388 with hours 1-24 of each day. Positions need to be filled in for all data recorded (see above). The big problem is that movements between positions need to be recorded and accounted for i.e if more than >80 of time was spent at the position Z3 then that is the position for the hour.
I have several columns of data representing a shop operation along different years. Now I try to see how will it look like if I have 10 shops like this, all summed up. The problem is that each shop will have the same numbers as the other 9, just that it's first year of operation will be different.
Now, I don't want to have different sheet for each and every shop since their data is exactly the same. I only want to have 1 type of shop which I can add to a consolidated sheet but 10 times, and each time the first year shoud be different.
But again, I don't want to open a different table for each shop and than sum them up - I want to have only my one shop, and have a possibility to say when will I open my next shop and the consolidation will be automatically.
I need a function or VB code to parse through a column of numbers and find a repeating pattern. The column has some initial numbers that do not fit the pattern and I need those returned along with the repeating pattern.
I have a set of data in once cell and its strung out. I'm trying to pull the numbers that follow certain words from that data. That's easy enough with the find and mid function for the first one. But after that I have a repeating word (see below) and different numbers that follow it. So I want to pull the second number string after that word, the third and so on.
I've attached an excel file that explains this better.
I have 1 column of pasted values that basically look like this c 1:a 2:b 3:c 1:d 2:e 3:f etc...
And they need to look like this: c1 c2 c3 a b c d e f
I know how to separate the first column into two columns by separating the values by the colon. But how do I rearrange the values as above and combine all "1"s in c1 so it becomes the headers and the column is populated only with the values? The table is too big to do manually (thousands of rows).
In the above (repeating for say, 50 or more cartons), is there a way with a macro(I know nothing about) or pivot table(see macro) to get the following format/result?
sorting data I use in a workbook for athletics. I've really chopped down my workbook for upload, In the worksheet "Leaderboard" I can call up stats for different lifts, and it finds (in this case) the top 5 lifts and the names for the kids that have those corresponding lifts.
My problem is that when two or more kids have the same lift, it will only call up the name of the first instance of that lift. You can see this in the "Leaderboard" worksheet, and the name "Adams, Andrew" appears for both lifts of 75. I would appreciate any help on how to correct this, as I've searched the Internet for weeks now looking for a solution. I've tried experimenting with different things as well, all to no avail.
Is it possible to automatically have columns repeat through all sheets in a workbook? I keep an annual book, broken down by sheets for each month. I always have to add 5 columns to each sheet, and was wondering if there was an easier way..?
taking a spreadsheet that has vertical repeating info in Column A and results in Column B and converting that to another sheet in a horizontal list. The main problem is that the repeating info in Column A may or may not always be the same for every customer; therefore, when it is placed in a horizontal format some cells may or may not have results. I tried a arbitrary lookup. Here is the formula I used:
I'm trying to compare values in 2 separate columns to see how many times the same value appears in both columns. Ideally I would be able to insert a range function to compare the values in the column "ID 1" against the values in column "ID 2" and return the count of times that a value appears in both columns. For example 2122, 1112 and 1718 appear in both columns and I would like the formula to return a count of 3.
In my actual project I'm comparing 2 columns in the same worksheet. The column are column B with data in cells B2:B10266 against column C with data in cells C2:C18560.
