Convert Hourly Time Series Data From Rows To Single Column

Jan 8, 2014

I have A:1 - X365 filled with hourly energy prices for 2013. I need to convert these to a single column - A1:A8760. I have tried writing some code and some macros with no success.

If I were to do it manually 365 times, the macro would look like this:

Copy Row A1:X1
select sheet 2
Paste Special > Transpose (fills A1:A24)

repeat for rows 2-365

Tried using this from a previous post, but it takes A1:A24 then B1:B24 and so on and makes them a single column - so it doesn't work unfortunately.

Sub MakeColumn()
Dim rng As Range
Dim LastRowSrc As Long
Dim LastRowDst As Long

Set rng = Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A1")

[Code] .....

See the attachecd workbook. It should be quite simple, but for some reason I just cant figure it out!? A bit embarressed In the woorkbook, I need VGTs and VPTs to be in a 15 minutes granularity.

Data From Multiple Rows Into Single Column

I am trying to take data from multiple rows and columns (matrix) and reformat it all to fit in a single column.

It would be great if I could select the cells I want to reformat into the single column as the number of rows and columns containing the original data is not always the same (ie 20x20, 21x35, 56x200) etc...

Convert Multiple Rows To Single Row

I have a database of addresses that has each address as several rows which I want to convert into a single row. In the source file there is a blank row between records. I have attached a sample file with two sheets in it. One is the "before" data format and the other sheet is the "after" example of how I would like it to come out. We have thousands of records to convert so I need something that can be automated instead of a massive cut and paste operation.

Here is the sample: sample conversion.xlsx

Convert Single Row To Multiple Rows

Mar 16, 2014

Macro to sort column data.

I have a spreadsheet in the following format (just a flavour of the format)

SD 1
SD2
SD3
1a
1b
1c
2a

[Code]...

Each row refers to a survey response, the first ten columns being standard demographics.

Following this each group of 5 columns for the next 100 columns represents a single response. What I want to do is convert each single row to multiple rows with the same first 10 columns and each single response on its own row like so:

SD1
SD2
SD3
a
b
c
a

[Code]...

I found an excellent similar example on this board here Convert a single row to multiple rows with the same A column value However I would like my macro to convert to rows even if the cells are blank So each existing row will generate 10 individual reponse rows regardless of data found).

I am interested to know how this would work and how i could modify the variables to acommodate 15 standard demographic fields and 20 columns per individual responses.

Pass Single Data Point Within Series

My goal, albeit a simple one, is to return and store a single value within a Series. It is the first in the series collection.

Dim MyPoint As Integer
MyPoint = Worksheets("My Worksheet").ChartObjects("My Chart").Chart.SeriesCollection(1).Points.Item(1)

However, after i type the period after "Points", no autocomplete listing appears, and when the expression is evaluated, I get the error 'Runtime Error 438 - Object doesn't support this property or method'. How to accomplish the task of retrieve a single data point in a series and 2) Why the Points and Item methods don't seem to work as described in the help documentation

I have been looking for a printable overview of Excel VBA that covers the fundamentals like program structure and syntax, but have been unable to find anything other than pure examples (like many 3rd party sites) or unprintable references (such as Microsoft's help file). If there is a site that covers the fundamentals of using Excel VBA in some depth

Convert Multiple Columns To Single Rows

Feb 27, 2007

I have a very large sheet of all US zip codes by county name. Unfortunately, the document builder decided to list up to EIGHTEEN columns of zip codes per county name... I assume to make it easier to look at.

I now need to rebuild the sheet to have one column of county names and *one* column of zip codes, which will be a nearly impossible task if I don't find a way to automate the conversion.

Attached is a sample... sheet 1 is my initial state (except here its 5 columns rather than 18), and sheet 2 is my hoped for end state. Notice that the zip codes can, but don't always, fill every column allotted.

Formatting Series Of Rows According To Column Value

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

+2+ 111 + 1/1/1995 + Visit +
+3+ 111 + 1/30/1995 + Vaccine +

+6+ 333 + 8/8/2001 + Labs +
+7+ 333 + 8/22/07 + Pharmacy +

Handling Gaps In Time Series Data

Dec 21, 2006

I have been browsing here off and on, and have found many excellent answers. I use Excel to process data on time series, as an adjunct to consultancy work on statistical analysis of industrial data . Usually the data has irregular gaps, e.g., daily data might have 2-10 day gaps. If I want to take, say, 7-day averages, SKIPPING OVER gaps longer than 2 days(say), is there an easy way to do this (I don't really know VBA,and it is not worth my time to try and write long code for this, which will eventually be done by some professional programmers)!

Removal Of Subsequent Duplicate Values In Time Series Of Data?

May 22, 2014

I'm having some problems with the removal of duplicate values in a time series. The time series consist of stock data for about 10000 firms, but about 3000 of these firms died(delisted) before the end of the sample. The database I used to extract these data, however, does not remove the firm values from the sample, but keeps the last known value of the firm for the remainder of the time. Therefore, I need to remove these duplicate values, but only if they are sequential. Furthermore, normally if you remove duplicate values, excel will delete the cell and shift the data upwards, since it's a time-series I would rather have excel just blanking out the cell instead of removing it.

I've looked at normal solutions, like using the countif functionallity in excel, but this is not feasible because of the size of the worksheet, also, it does remove non-sequential duplicate values as well.

summary:

- Want to remove duplicate values, but only sequential values.( It's possible firm value is the same somewhere in the time period)

- The cells should be blanked out instead of deleted.

Chart Wizard Limited To 6 Rows Of Data For Series

Nov 24, 2009

I am trying to create a line graph and I have 17 rows of data for 17 different employees. There are 18 rows when including the header row.

My data is as follows

Column A - Employee Name
Column B - Month 1 data
Column C - Month 2 data
Column D - Month 3 data
Column E - Month 4 data
Column F - Month 5 data

When I highlight the data and go to the chart wizard, I select "Series in Rows".

However, on the series tab it only brings in the data for 6 employees.

Is there a way to automatically bring in all the data without having to do it manually, or is this a limitation of Excel?

Transpose Rows To Single Column

I'm trying to do something which I can't manage with traditional formulas and a macro might be required.

I have the following table:

Code:

Header1Header2Header3Header4Header5
1.00 6.00 11.0016.0021.00
2.00 7.00 12.0017.0022.00

4.00 9.00 14.0019.0024.00
5.00 10.0015.0020.0025.00

What I would need to do is take all column values and transpose is to rows, copying the header for every set, like:

ColumnA ColumnB
Header1 1.00
Header2 6.00
Header3 11.00
Header4 16.00
Header5 21.00
