Count Dates Between 2 Date Ranges
Jun 11, 2008
I am trying to count the number of instances of dates that occur in a single column. For example, I want to be able to count the total # of dates that occur between Jun and July, then a different count of dates occurring between Aug and Dec (see example below). I have tried this formula: =SUMPRODUCT((E11:E149>=1/8/2008)*(E11:E149<=12/31/2009)) but it comes back with zero.
Column A
---------
1/8/2008
5/8/2008
8/18/2008
9/18/2008

attached worksheet.
The worksheet has two sections, Extra payments and Loan Schedule.
If a date in the Extra Payments section is within a range in Loan Schedule, the enter its corresponding value, or sum of values in the Loan schedule under its respective date.
the attached sheet explains in detail.

The attached workbook has dates in column C, although some of these dates are just strings.
I'm trying to write some vba that will tell me how many of the cells in column C contain a date (or looks like a date) that is greater than (after) the real date in cell G1.
At the moment I loop through the cells in column C and can ascertain, which dates can be counted, then copy one row over at a time, but I'm looking for a slicker (perhaps one-liner) answer, perhaps by copying a block of rows in one go. The aim is to copy those rows to another sheet. There are many more rows than in the attached, and many sheets to process, and I have no control over the format of the dates/strings in column C. Currently it takes about 20 seconds to copy over the necessary rows, but I'm looking for it to happen much more quickly; current thoughts are to sort on column C (sorting on column C anything that looks like a number as a number - which has it's own problems!), have a count of dates satisfying the criterion (say using a worksheet formula such as COUNTIF or SUMPRODUCT, perhaps also using EVALUATE) then copy a block of rows in one go.
not very relevant, but the existing code is something like this which highlights rather than copyies the rows(included in the attached): ...

I'm scrambling my head to put this together. Could somebody show me how this is done?
I have two rows of data that contains dates in the mmm-yy format. The first row is the start date of the activity and the second row is the end date of the activity. Thus, in each column i would have an activity with its start and end dates. If i want to total the number of months taking into consideration only unique months (counting over-lapping months just once), how do i do that? These dates could have breaks in between, too. Like if an activity ended Jul-08, the next could begin Dec-08.
I am able to count the months using the datedif function, is there a match or other function that i need to use?

I want to work out how many cells in a colums are "equal to or more than AND less than or equal to" certain date ranges.
E.G. Column A has random dates from 01/10/2012 to 31/12/2012. I want to know how many of these cells have dates that meet the criteria of >=01/12/2012 and <=31/12/2012.
I have searched on here and found COUNTIF which didn't work. I also tried DCOUNT which I couldn't get to work.

My setup is - excel 2003 sp3 / windows xp
On one sheet (Data) I have a list of action items, each with owner; target date; classification and in some cases revised target date. I'm trying to report on these fields and provide a status, by owner and classification, of how many are overdue; due this month; due next month; due beyond 2mths.
Using a SUM array formula on another sheet I can count the number that are overdue based on date; owner; classification; and target date, but can't find a solution if there is a revised target date. Any guidance you can give would be greatly received.
=SUM((Data!$L$3:$L$27=D$18)*(Data!$P$3:$P$27=$C23)*(Data!$N$3:$N$27

I've got a 2007 Excel spreadsheet that will count dates within a range using the COUNTIFS function. I am having to send this spreadsheet to users that only have Excel 2003. I need to know how to convert this so it works in 2003.
Since I'm doing this for a fiscal year I have to use a date range. Here are my two formulas I'm trying to convert:
=COUNTIFS(D9:D25,">3/1/08",D9:D25,"<6/30/08")
and
=COUNTIFS(D9:D25,">7/1/08",D9:D25,"<6/30/09")

Its a training list, and I want to count the number of staff with valid training dates, I want to keep invalid dates as a reminder and I also have text N/A to disregard. Have used an IF function array but there are approx 33 column entries I want to add and using array function limits the amount of formula entries up to column 24.
Would be much easier if I used data validation to kick out the invalid date entries but we want to keep them if possible.

I have a range of dates B1:B100 which I want to compare to a certain date A1 and see how many are greater than my stated date A1.
I've tried with countif(B1:B100, "=>A1") which I thought would work, but it gives the error Value!
How do I do this?

I have been using a formula to count the number of days between 2 dates and if the date was older than 12 months it would work fine.
The data that i was using has been changed and they have decided to change the format of the dates and dropped the year reference no all i have to work with is dates like 27-07 this represents 27th July i can format this date to work fine unless the date falls before 1 jan this year all i get is lots of numbers and it stuffs up the whole calculation.
The formula i am using to compare the dates is
=DATEDIF(N31,$D$1,"d")

I have a spreadsheet with two colums with dates. The names of the ranges are 'DataContractualStartDate' and 'DataContractualEndDate'.
How do I manage to count the no. of records with equal dates at the same row?
I have used the following but this gives me zero, while in the example below the result should be 3.
=COUNTIFS(DataContractualStartDate,DataContractualEndDate)
The table looks as follows:
dContractualStartDate
dContractualEndDate
01-05-2012

Basically I have 2 columns each with a list of dates in no particular order (and containing blank cells too), one planned date column and one actual date column.
What I need to do is plot this on a graph, and since the number of dates has no set limit and I dont want to have to plot maybe 100 dates on the x axis, so i want to group them by week before plotting them, i.e. 10 dates for week ending 10th jan, 25 dates for week ending 17th jan etc
I have a pivot table that counts how many of each date occurs, i.e. 10 x 2nd jan, 7x 3rd jan etc etc but it does not split them into weeks.
im sure theres an easyish way of doing it so i can get the 2 lines on the graph for no. of planned dates each week and no. of actual dates each week, i just cant see it.

Today I am having a very annoying problem that really has me stumped – I need to work out the lag between a Due Date and Delivered Date
But as people sometimes manage to deliver on the Due Date it needs to show a zero (as in they got it in on time) but using the formula below the result is a 1 and I want a zero
Can anyone help me please? I have tried putting assorted -1s in to the formula and it looks like it might work until I copy down and find that if a person delivered one day early the result shows -3 for example!

I need to create formulas that reference a single date and output date ranges. The objective is to have a person input a Monday date in any given month and receive a four weeks out worth of dates and ranges. For example: In a lone cell, the person inputs 10/13/08. Automatically, the sheet produces the next full week range: October 19 – October 25 in a single cell and also produces a cell for each date. Example: Sunday 19, Monday 20, Tuesday 21, etc…. It should look like:
Monday Date:
10/13/08
October 19 – October 25
Sunday 19
Monday 20
Tuesday 21
Wednesday 22
Thursday 23
Friday 24
Saturday 25
and then repeat for three more weeks. I thought I had it figured out until the month changed. The dates continued in October instead of adding a month. This report will be ran weekly, so simply adding a +1MONTH to some cells will not benefit me as I’ll have to change the formula every week. I want the formula to compute the data without any manipulation over the next several years. The only change will be the Monday date.

I have a sheet named "XYZ Activity" with meeting dates in column B starting with cell B4. There are duplicates in this list, that should only be viewed as one meeting. On another sheet, each company that attends the meeting has a specific join date found in Column C (C4 is the first company start date). I am trying to figure out an equation that will count how many meetings the company could have attended. I already calculate the total meetings they have attended using either of the following equations:
=COUNT(1/FREQUENCY(IF('XYZ Activity'!$C$4:$C$4000=A3,IF('XYZ Activity'!$B$4:$B$4000<>"",'XYZ Activity'!$B$4:$B$4000)),IF('XYZ Activity'!$C$4:$C$4000=A3,IF('XYZ Activity'!$B$4:$B$4000<>"",'XYZ Activity'!$B$4:$B$4000))))
=SUM(IF(FREQUENCY(IF('XYZ Activity'!C$4:C$5000=A4,IF('XYZ Activity'!G$4:G$5000="Yes",MATCH('XYZ Activity'!B$4:B$5000,'XYZ Activity'!B$4:B$5000,0))),ROW('XYZ Activity'!B$4:B$5000)-ROW('XYZ Activity'!B$4)+1),1))

I want excel to count the number of items in a range that I have named "Name" and I have another range that I have name "date" which contains (obviously) dates. The dates are in order. I want to count the number of items in "name" that are associated with the date in the "Date" range.
The problem is I want to count the names in a date range, which is todays date through to 30 days after. I have to days date already posted automatically in K1 [by the formula =TODAY()]
Essentially, count all the times "Bob" appears in the Range "Names" that appear in the next 30 days. My Brain hurts just trying to describe it

I have some data on rows that are similar to what is above. Hyphens mean no activity, then there are "stock" amounts and then "0" means out of stock. I'd like to count the # of times that the stock changes to 0, by ranges...so 1/27/09 - 1/29/09 would be counted once -- as a range...the answer here would be 3 times that stock went to 0 - hyphens ignored..
I'm sure if's some count if function, or multiple ones, but not sure.

I have been looking at a post number 170404 which NBVC answered with an example grid. This was while I was trying to bring searched data through to another sheet and this is just what I was looking for as a brilliant start,
I have attached my very similar example in my scenario. I have also got NBVC's example on the first two sheets of this as reference. In addition I am also bringing through from-to date ranges which I then need to be applied to a Booking Sheet so I can see that these dates are booked for this person, and ideally where they are going and what they need to do there by colour.
I tried, just as a test in this example the following. Please note that this only had the three ranges as I was testing an example coordinator which returned three date ranges. It could be that the example returns 20 or 30 ranges that need to be applied to the rather primative Booking Sheet.
=IF(OR(AND(C10>='Coordinators list'!F5,'Coordinators list'!L5<=C10),(AND(C10>='Coordinators list'!F6,'Coordinators list'!L6<=C10)),(AND(C10>='Coordinators list'!F7,'Coordinators list'!L7<=C10))),"yes","no")
It seemed to give the right answer initially but trying different dates it gave the wrong result. It seemed to be checking one of the ranges and not all of them. As mentioned above this was just an example to see what I could get working but I don't think that this would be the ideal way of doing this as it would need to check 30-40 maybe more ranges depending on what comes back from the coordinator search.
The aim would be to choose a co-ordinator on the Site Planner sheet and ideally return the city rather than the yes/no in the Booking Sheet for that date and use conditional formatting so that if the type from the Site Planner Sheet was paint it would fill in one colour, clean in another, etc.
Was hopefully trying to get this done without using any VB as I am trying to resolve this for my Wife she isn't very tech savvy and and I need to be able to explain the formulas!
I'm sure you will see from my sheet I have given this a good go but I am a bit unsure on what some of the formulas on NBVC sheet are doing, and that this is my first attempt at doing anything like this. I have also tried using lookup and match but I'm still having issues that they either aren't always in date order and it seems to return no if it doesn't match the first range. The other main issue that I have seen is that I need to check whatever ranges the selection comes back with rather than adding each one to search through.
I hope this becomes a bit clearer on the sheet I have attached,

I have a table with three columns. I'm building a calendar on a separate worksheet and am looking up the "value" based on a calendar date. So if a date falls within any of the ranges, I'd like to return the value in column C. For example, if the date is 02/07/12, I'd like for the result to be value 1, or if the date is 04/17/12, then I would like the result to be value 3. I've used a nested vlookup, but all that give me is the value when either the start or end dates match, but I can't get a value when the date falls within the range. If the dates were consecutive, I would simply use vlookup/TRUE, but the dates are not consecutive.
ABC102/06/1202/09/12value 1203/12/1203/15/12value 2304/16/1204/19/12value 3405/21/1205/24/12value 4506/25/1206/28/12value 5606/25/1206/28/12value 6

So basically using the data in columns A to B as input, to get columns E and F as output.
Also, for a lot more than just 3 IDs.

I am trying to find out how many projects might be active as of a certain date.
I have a tab in excel that contains project data. For each project there is a "Start Date" and there might be an "End Date"
My question is, how do I count all the rows where the start date is Less than a given date and the end date is after a given date? The wrinkle is... if the end date is empty then obviously it should be counted as well (assuming the start date is still before the given date).
Here are the approaches I've used thus far:
=SUMPRODUCT(1*( AND(OR(RawMetrics!P:P > A2, RawMetrics!P:P = ""), RawMetrics!$O:$O < A2 )))
=COUNTIFS(RawMetrics!P:P,">"&Sheet1!A2,RawMetrics!O:O,"

One of the spreadsheets we have here keeps track of reservations booked in the following way.
FG
101/05/200801/08/2008
201/06/200801/09/2008
301/06/200801/07/2008
401/06/200801/06/2008
The date in F is the check in date and the date in Column G is the check out date.
There is another spreadsheet in the same workbook that counts the dates that these people are checked in.
For example:
AB
1
2JanuaryRooms Occupied
310
420
530
640
751
863
972
1081
119
1210
1311
1412
As you can see column B7 has one room because of the fact that the reservation check in of F1 started on the Fifth of January
B8 is Three because reservations 1-3 are checked in on the sixth of January
B9 is 2 because reservations 1-2 are checked in on the seventh of January
B10 is 1 because reservation 2 is checked in on the eighth of January
Please note that F4:G4 does not count on this worksheet due to the fact that they checked out on the same day as check in.
I would love any help you could give on this confusing subject.
