SUM (count) - Multiple Criteria Including Date Ranges
Oct 23, 2009
My setup is - excel 2003 sp3 / windows xp
On one sheet (Data) I have a list of action items, each with owner; target date; classification and in some cases revised target date. I'm trying to report on these fields and provide a status, by owner and classification, of how many are overdue; due this month; due next month; due beyond 2mths.
Using a SUM array formula on another sheet I can count the number that are overdue based on date; owner; classification; and target date, but can't find a solution if there is a revised target date. Any guidance you can give would be greatly received.
=SUM((Data!$L$3:$L$27=D$18)*(Data!$P$3:$P$27=$C23)*(Data!$N$3:$N$27

I know need to modify the formula to include validating if the indexed reference occurs within a certain month.
{=INDEX('Duration Calculations'!B$2:B$5000,SMALL(IF(MONTH('Duration Calculations'!$J$2:$J$5000=10),IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("br",'Duration Calculations'!$A$2:$A$5000)),ROW('Duration Calculations'!$J$2:$J$5000)-ROW('Duration Calculations'!$J$2)+1)),ROWS(P$100:P101)))}
Essentially, what I am trying to do is index the value from B column if it meets the following criteria
1) Date in column J is equal to any date that occurs in October
2) the Column A has a text value equal to "br"
If both true then I need to index the value in column B.
The formula as states works finding any value equal to "br" but seems to be ignoring the date range.

using various keywords, and I haven't been able to find a solution that works. It would seem SUMPRODUCT is what I need to use, but thru all the combinations I've tried, I still can't get the syntax right. The problem is: I have dates in col A, and the word "Holiday" in col D. I need to create a formula that counts the number of instances of the word "Holiday" in col D, only where the date in col A is =DATE(2008,1,1))*(A11:A45

I'm struggling to come up with a formula that ill give me the following:
I have will have a row of data (cells A4:H4 on the attached example), in the respective cells below each value in row 4 I want formula that will give me a value of 10 if it sees 90% in the cell above reducing to a value of 0 if it sees 80% in the cell above. I think that there should be a relatively straightforward formulae for that, my problem is that I want to add a further criteria that says; if the value in row 4 increases above 90% and reaches 95% then I must return a value that is 10 for 90% but "stretches" to 12 for 95%. Anything below 80% should return a value of 0, and anything over 95% should return a value of 12.

I am attempting to count records based on 3 criteria in 3 different ranges and am hitting a wall. My formula will be on a different worksheet as it is the summary sheet.
Worksheet "Cases"
Column E - Type
Column F - Month
Column G - Year
Worksheet "Recap"
Recap month will be input into Cell I5 eg. "6" for June
Recap year will be input into Cell K5 eg. "2009"
Cells N10-N15 is a list of Types
Summary Cell J10 will need to count if
1)worksheet Cases column E = worksheet Recap N10
2)worksheet Cases column F = worksheet Recap I5
3)worksheet Cases column G = worksheet Recap K5

I am trying to count the number of instances of dates that occur in a single column. For example, I want to be able to count the total # of dates that occur between Jun and July, then a different count of dates occurring between Aug and Dec (see example below). I have tried this formula: =SUMPRODUCT((E11:E149>=1/8/2008)*(E11:E149<=12/31/2009)) but it comes back with zero.
Column A
---------
1/8/2008
5/8/2008
8/18/2008
9/18/2008

I'm scrambling my head to put this together. Could somebody show me how this is done?
I have two rows of data that contains dates in the mmm-yy format. The first row is the start date of the activity and the second row is the end date of the activity. Thus, in each column i would have an activity with its start and end dates. If i want to total the number of months taking into consideration only unique months (counting over-lapping months just once), how do i do that? These dates could have breaks in between, too. Like if an activity ended Jul-08, the next could begin Dec-08.
I am able to count the months using the datedif function, is there a match or other function that i need to use?

What I'm looking for is that it ADDS the values, when 2 or more ranges and criteria are met. I don't think it's possible through the SUMIF because it allows "range,criteria,sum_range." But I know there's another way around, if so, please demostrate in a basic formula.
Like.. I have something on A:A (name) and B:B (points), and the formula must meet the 2 ranges & criterias (name & points) to add the values in C:C (money).

The formula below contains an error (one of many as I've been trying to resove this). = COUNTA(IF(CZ4:DE4,DI4:DN4,DR4:DW4,EA4:EF4,EJ4:EO4>"1",Games / Activity,Games)) The formula should return the following result:
If two or more cells in the above ranges contain numbers and cell C4 isn't empty then return the words "Games / Activity", otherwise return "Games". If C4 is empty keep blank. Can this be done with a standard formula?

I want to work out how many cells in a colums are "equal to or more than AND less than or equal to" certain date ranges.
E.G. Column A has random dates from 01/10/2012 to 31/12/2012. I want to know how many of these cells have dates that meet the criteria of >=01/12/2012 and <=31/12/2012.
I have searched on here and found COUNTIF which didn't work. I also tried DCOUNT which I couldn't get to work.

I have a sum part of which is $I$4:$I$500.
The 500 part of the sum is constantly being manually changed using edit replace because of a growing amount of data.
In cell A1 ona another worksheet within the workbook I use the Count function to count the number of rows containing data. This cell is named DataCols
Is it possible to combine $I$ with the named Range DataCols?
I have got this far - ="$I$"&INDIRECT("ColNo") which returns 500 if I remove "&I$"& in front of it.

I am trying to write an array using =sumproduct. I cannot get the second array to work. Whenever I split up the arrays they work fine separately, but not together. This is what I am putting. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am not sure if I am even using the correct formula.
=SUMPRODUCT((B37:B51="Math")+(F37:F51)+(I37:I51="Math")+(M37:M51)),[(B18:B31="Math")+(F18:F31)+(I18:I31="Math")+(M18:M31)]
So basically, I am creating a transcipt. So in column B if the subject is Math, I want column F to be added and so on and soforth. See there are more arrays, because it is broken down to grades 9, 10th, 11th, 12th. And what is being added is their credit (.5 or 1) for the class for each year.

IM trying to add the result of multiple ranges sharing a single criteria and have had no luck. I am trying to get the range from every other colum and have the total qty of the selected criteria display in a single cell. The best way to describe is countif with multiple ranges and a single criteria. perhaps countif isnt the answer, it is the only way i know to describe the issue though.

I have been looking at a post number 170404 which NBVC answered with an example grid. This was while I was trying to bring searched data through to another sheet and this is just what I was looking for as a brilliant start,
I have attached my very similar example in my scenario. I have also got NBVC's example on the first two sheets of this as reference. In addition I am also bringing through from-to date ranges which I then need to be applied to a Booking Sheet so I can see that these dates are booked for this person, and ideally where they are going and what they need to do there by colour.
I tried, just as a test in this example the following. Please note that this only had the three ranges as I was testing an example coordinator which returned three date ranges. It could be that the example returns 20 or 30 ranges that need to be applied to the rather primative Booking Sheet.
=IF(OR(AND(C10>='Coordinators list'!F5,'Coordinators list'!L5<=C10),(AND(C10>='Coordinators list'!F6,'Coordinators list'!L6<=C10)),(AND(C10>='Coordinators list'!F7,'Coordinators list'!L7<=C10))),"yes","no")
It seemed to give the right answer initially but trying different dates it gave the wrong result. It seemed to be checking one of the ranges and not all of them. As mentioned above this was just an example to see what I could get working but I don't think that this would be the ideal way of doing this as it would need to check 30-40 maybe more ranges depending on what comes back from the coordinator search.
The aim would be to choose a co-ordinator on the Site Planner sheet and ideally return the city rather than the yes/no in the Booking Sheet for that date and use conditional formatting so that if the type from the Site Planner Sheet was paint it would fill in one colour, clean in another, etc.
Was hopefully trying to get this done without using any VB as I am trying to resolve this for my Wife she isn't very tech savvy and and I need to be able to explain the formulas!
I'm sure you will see from my sheet I have given this a good go but I am a bit unsure on what some of the formulas on NBVC sheet are doing, and that this is my first attempt at doing anything like this. I have also tried using lookup and match but I'm still having issues that they either aren't always in date order and it seems to return no if it doesn't match the first range. The other main issue that I have seen is that I need to check whatever ranges the selection comes back with rather than adding each one to search through.
I hope this becomes a bit clearer on the sheet I have attached,

I have a table with three columns. I'm building a calendar on a separate worksheet and am looking up the "value" based on a calendar date. So if a date falls within any of the ranges, I'd like to return the value in column C. For example, if the date is 02/07/12, I'd like for the result to be value 1, or if the date is 04/17/12, then I would like the result to be value 3. I've used a nested vlookup, but all that give me is the value when either the start or end dates match, but I can't get a value when the date falls within the range. If the dates were consecutive, I would simply use vlookup/TRUE, but the dates are not consecutive.
ABC102/06/1202/09/12value 1203/12/1203/15/12value 2304/16/1204/19/12value 3405/21/1205/24/12value 4506/25/1206/28/12value 5606/25/1206/28/12value 6

I have a spreadsheet which lists letters issued, the date issued and the potcode. I need a formula that counts, on a weekly basis, the number of letters issued to postcodes in Sutton and Bexley.
I have a count sheet set up on one worksheet and the list of postcodes applicable to each area are listed on another worksheet. I have been playing around with sumif, sumproduct etc, but these don't seem to work as I am pointing the formula to a list of postcodes and not an individual postcode. For example, the formula for one week needs to tell me, the number of letters issed to Sutton between 26/07/08 - 01/08/08. This is what I tried -
=SUMPRODUCT(('MU63 NC'!$F$2:$F$10>=COUNT!B$2)*('MU63 NC'!$F$2:$F$10<=COUNT!B$3)*('MU63 NC'!$D$2:$D$10=Sutton!$A$2:$A$50))
But I get #N/A - if I change the last refernce to a specific cell instead of a range it works, but this will make the process very lengthy as there are lots of postcodes!

I am trying to find a formula to count rows that meet multiple criteria, but one of the criteria can be multiple values. I have a list of people with a list of clients that they are responsible for. Each person is responsible for 10-20 clients. Every day I run a report that shows the project worksheets submitted for each client and if money has been awarded or not.
I'm wondering if there is a way to count, for each person, the number of project worksheets that show "awarded" in column K. That would mean that I would have to look for, for each person, any of their multiple clients in column B and "awarded" in column K.
I am trying to put the formula in D2:D9, as I use A2:D9 for a chart. O1:P79 contain the names of the people and the applicants that they are responsible for. A17:D158 contains the list of project worksheets (updated daily). I used =SUMPRODUCT(COUNTIF(B17:B999,P1:P14)) to count the actual number of project worksheets for each person, but I can't figure out a way to modify that to add in the "awarded" criteria also.

Using MS Query in Excel, I've created a simple query that pulls its records from an SQL dbase. Here's the statement:
SELECT uvVisit.FacilityListName, uvVisit.DoctorListName, uvVisit.Date, uvVisit.PatientVisitId, uvVisit.PatientLast, uvVisit.PatientFirst
FROM CPS.dbo.uvVisit uvVisit
WHERE (uvVisit.Date Between ? And ?)
ORDER BY uvVisit.FacilityListName
The query runs fine and prompts the user to enter beginning & ending date ranges for the visit date when executed. So far...so good...but, this requires me to manually insert a line in Excel above the 1st record and type in something like: "For Date Range: MM/DD/YYY - MM/DD/YY" to denote the date range that the qualified records fall into (something the user wants to see).
However, I'd like to find a way automatically preface and display in the report's output (perhaps as the 1st line of the report in Excel??) something similar to what I'm already typing, and have it pull the beginning and ending MM/DD/YY values from those supplied by the user in the parameter.

I have a document with the following data
1: NAME
2: DESCRIPTION
3: DATE "12/15/2007" format
I would like to know if anyone knows how I can perform the following. And please excuse me for not writing this very technically I am a bit lost.
if name = "JOHN" and description = "APPLE" count how many apples there are for john.
Now it gets complicated for me because the dates are as follows. Lets say it starts 1/1/2004 the next cell might be 1/3/2204, 1/6/2204, etc all the way to 2008. I would like to find a way to say
If date = day/month/year I would like to count the whole month instead of the individual days. am I making sence? Let me give you another example.
record reads "," represent cells
JOHN,1/2/2204,APPLE
JOHN,1/3/2204,ORANGE
JOHN,2/3/2004,APPLE
I would like to be able to come up with the following
JOHN had 1 APPLE in JAN 2004
JOHN had 1 ORANGE in JAN 2004

I have a spreadsheet that records the date, specific sporting activities and cash award for participation in a round robin sporting event that was held over 52 weekends. I'm trying to lookup the cash award value of each event the person participated in by using a date range within the vlookup formula.
Each participant has their own spreadsheet which they are able to access via server, and each spreadsheet looks a bit like this:
-Column A contains the date of an event in which the person participated
-Column B contains a category number related to the type of event eg marathon = 12, hurdles = 15, relay = 18 etc. This info is manual input
-Column C contains the amount the person will be awarded by simply participating in the event. This is a lookup value and varies depending on the date the person participated, so I'm trying to incorporate date ranges and 'if' formulas into the vlookup
I'm from Australia so my dates might be backwards...
Spreadsheet:
A B C
1 02/01/13 15 (supposed to be $10)
The formula should read a bit like this:
if (date at A1 is within date range 1st Jan 2013 and 31st March 2013, lookup B1 in table 1 column 2), if (date at A1 is within 1st Apr 2013 and 30th Jun 2013, lookup B1 in table 2 column 2)...etc for each quarter
I don't know if the following is right
=IF(AND(A1>='01/01/2013'+0,A1='04/01/2013'+0,A1

if possible, with a Excel formula. Assuming a column (M7:M200) has this information:
John
Mary
Lisa
Mark
John
Albert
|_Empty _|
|_Empty _|
|_Empty _|
I would get the sum of the cells except "empty", "John" and "Mark". The result would be: John: 2 | Mark: 1 | Others: 3 (My only interest is the formula to get the result "Others: 3") I tried with this formula: = COUNTIF (M7:M200, "<> John") but remains exclude "empty" cells and "Mark."
