Excel 2003 :: Removing Single Quote Of Contents Of Several Cells?
Jan 31, 2014
In a large range of cells, how I can remove the single quote at the beginning of the contents of each cell? (without single quote they would be formulas). It didn't work using CTRL + L and trying to replace the single quote by blank applying this to the whole range. I am currently using Excel 2003.
Example:
cell a1 contents: '= IF (I17 = "----------", "----------", E17-C17)
cell a2 contents: '= IF (I18 = "----------", "----------", E18-C18)
cell a3 contents: '= IF (I19 = "----------", "----------", E19-C19)
....
etc., etc., etc.
I am a SAS programmer and often use SAS Proc Export to dump data to Excel. Sometimes the data is an Excel formula, e.g. =hyperlink("#Sheet1!r1c1","click here")
Because the data is text, what get's put in the cell is '=HYPERLINK("#Sheet1!r1c1","click here") (note leading single quote).
I cannot use the replace function to edit them out, so must hand edit each one out -tedious at best.
Someone might find this interesting. Inherited a file that need to total columns but almost 50% of the file has cells w/ the single quote tick infront of the number.
Ex '2257894 or '2234. How can one remove those single quotes out of a cell? NOTE: Cell values are not the same length.
As a data download I got a block ** text with each item enclosed in "" "" and comma delimited. I converted to a table and copied the column I want to a 2003 excel file. How can I remove " " and treat column as simple numeric? I will then have to convert large application to 2007 as I am in that now.
I cannot "BOLD" the contents of cells in my spreadsheet by clicking "B" on the menu bar. However I can do so by clicking on "Format - Cell - Font" and then using the selecting the Bold option. I wonder why this happens.
I have some code (authored by Dangler) that i want to pull not just one range but also the contents of one specific cell and then copy the range and cell to a line on another spreadsheet.
I'm trying to make a macro in Excel 2003 to create x amount of named worksheets that are a copy of a different worksheet.
1. I have a main worksheet that will have a number manually entered into a cell (lets say A1); 2. I have a 'template' worksheet; 3. I'll assign the macro to a button on the main worksheet
If I enter '10' into cell A1 of the main worksheet, I'd like to click the button and have Excel create 10 copies of the template worksheet. These new worksheets should all share the same name with a number after them (ex: banana 1, banana 2..... banana 10).
I am using Microsoft 2013 and am looking for 4 formulas in order to split 1 cell in to 4 (across same row). Number of characters varies between each instance of """.
I would like the formulas to start in column B-D (data in A)
I am looking at formulas based on specific instances of a quote mark in cell from data in column A
Formula 1 - Return with characters up to and including the 5th instance of """ Formula 2 - Return with characters after 5th """ and up to and including 6th """ Formula 3 - Return with characters after 6th """ and up to and including 7th """ Formula 4 - Return with characters after the 7th instance of """
Example below... Cell A1 xxyy","aabb","ee,ff,""gghh"hh,"llmm,mmnbijp"oossww"
Desired results Cell B1 - Formula 1 xxyy","aabb","ee,ff," Cell C1 - Formula 2 "gghh" Cell D1 - Formula 3 hh," Cell E1 - Formula 4 mmnbijp"oossww"
I am trying to conditionally format the top middle and bottom thirds of a range of data. Problem is, that the range needs to be flexible as sometimes there may be a maximum of 36 cells with data, but sometimes there may be less (so there are blank cells in the range that need not be counted). The methods I have tried always include the blank cells, and so it is not equally formatting the thirds (as it includes the blanks cells as part of the bottom data)....
Here are the 2 methods Ive tried so far using excel 2003) Top 34%: =IF(INT(COUNT($D$3:$D$38)*34%)>0,LARGE($D$3:$D$38,INT(COUNT($D$3:$D $38)*34%)),MAX( $D$3:$D$38))0,LARGE($D$3:$D$38,INT(COUNT($D$3:$D $38)*67%)),MAX( $D$3:$D$38))0,LARGE($D$3:$D$38,INT(COUNT($D$3:$D $38)*100%)),MAX( $D$3:$D$38))
Let's say I have 2 files: Source file and working file. In source file there are some text names in a column that are updated once in a while.
1. I need to create a column in "working file" such that is taking values from column in "source file" even when "source file" is closed.
2. It should take only non empty values, because I need to create a cell with validation list that consists of text names from the column.
Solving attempt: By searching some solutions in forum I found that the first part I can do in the following way: copy column from "source file", select in "working file" a "paste special" option and choose "paste link". It works, but the problem is that it imports all the column: if in "source file" the column consists of words "a" (cell A1), "b" (cell A2) and all other cells in A column are empty - in "working file", after linking, it appears as "a" (cell A1), "b" (cell A2) and all other cells in A column are "0" (zeros) till cell A65536. And I need that in "working file" column after linking will appear as "a" (cell A1), "b" (cell A2) and all other cells will be empty, so by setting one of cells in B column to be a list (by "Data" - "Data validation" - "List" ) - it will consist only from "a" and "b", and not from "a", "b", "0", "0", "0", .... (65534 zeros).
(Split cell into multiple rows) I need a macro to remove contents within brackets in a cell.
Example: A1 contains [something, separated; a, couple of times; like, this] With, some; other, text
The result should be: With, some; other, text
I want the macro to remove the brackets and everything within it for all marked cells. (I do not want to use search and replace function since I got a lot of these data and needs to repeat this procedure).
I have text of size 14 and 18 mixed in cells in a column. Cells are font size 18 or mixed with both 14 and 18 size text. I need to sort out the text with one column of size 14 and another of 18 only. I am thinking of copying and pasting the column twice and run a macro in first column to remove the text of size 14, and another macro to delete text of size 18 in second column. I need the leftover text to be in same rows.
I tried everywhere and couldn't find a macro for mixed text cells. I am using Microsoft Excel 2010.
I have a spreadsheet which is used by users unfamiliar with Excel. They are using the filter to select records, however when this is used some records appear which have no entry in the cells of that column. Can I overcome this? There is no data in the blank cells, other than a data validation drop down.
I need to remove the letter within the middle of a persons name.
For example, if the person is called 'Michael J Fox' then it needs to be edited to show only 'Michael Fox', if the person is called 'George W Bush' then only 'George Bush' should be displayed etc. However the persons name should remain as is if a middle character initial does not exist.
I am working in Excel 2003. I consider myself a little more experienced than a beginner, but not quite an intermediate. My problem is, I am doing percentage changes comparing the average year-to-date data of 2009 through 2012, and then I am attempting to get the percentage change of the current year-to-date data to the average of the aforementioned years.
I took an average of these numbers, that are pulled from other worksheets. The cells are set as "General".
112241 = 1.833333333 or rounded, 2 divided by 1 (the current year to date total), the result is -45%, which should be -50% decrease. The percent cell is set at percentage.
It appears the cells are not automatically rounding up.
I have a work sheet with numerous cells coded one of two ways. Either a color of red or a color of green. Is there anyway to count how many times green cells show up? etc..?
I know I'd need to know the exact color but it would save a lot of time as I need to find out how many cells are of each color.
I have a worksheet of data that has 12 columns of numbers (sourced from an external data source) that I have a subtotal for each row. I need the user to be able to hide columns that they do not want included in the subtotal. I have found references to Subtotal(109,D2:Q2) on the net that apparently does this but it doesn't make any difference whether or not I hide columns (I am not using filtering).
Does anyone know how to do this using a formula, (I would prefer to keep this a macro free worksheet)
How to count those that are formatted in RED or bold using Excel 2003 as I know in later versions that is possible but old ones I am unsure how to count them.
I'm using Excel 2003. I've got two different .XLS files, each with multiple sheets.
I'm trying to create a macro which will copy a range of cells from one sheet on one .XLS file (which is closed) to a specific place on a specific sheet on the current .XLS file (which is open).
So for the sake of argument:
I've got two Excel files: C:ApplesOldFile.xls and C:OrangesNewFile.xls
OldFile.xls is closed -- NewFile.xls is open and in front of me.
I'm trying to copy the data in ranges B6:C41 and F6:F41 from Sheet2 in OldFile.xls to the same ranges on Sheet6 in NewFile.xls. There are no formulas in these cells -- just data (numbers).
I keep getting error messages, failures to copy to clipboard, etc.
I have a very basic understanding of excel, I mean BASIC, for my work I have multiple dates for vehicles to go in for inspections. I would like the cells to change colours when within 30 days, 10 days and 5 days. I'm on a work excel 2003.
I have a sheet witch has a number of tick boxes and depending on the response a number of hidden rows may open to allow further info to be recorded, how do I protect the sheet in excel 2003 as unlocking certain cells & protecting the sheet will not work.
Of course, it can be done by setting names for each cell separately but it takes ages. I would like to know if this is possible to do that quickly due to an add-in or VBA.
I have a sheet that column G and column H has duplicate values. I would like to be able to put a formula in a cell P4 that will search thru column G and column H and if there are any matching items then add the corrisponding number in column I.
So say cell G8, G25, and G30 have the same and H8 and H30 have the same value, i would like this to add the values of cell I8 and I30.
I am running a text comparison between customer names in 2 systems and although I can identify where they dont match I would like a bit more information as to what the differences may be:
See below sample data - 1 system may have Mr/Ms and middle initials whereas the other simply has the name is it possible to write a formula that will look at the cell and when it does not match identify the extra characters. Or if it totally doesnt match then just state incorrect.
I am looking for a macros to lock a cells dependent on another's value.
I have a spread sheet for quote numbers I don't want the employees to take a quote number (A) unless all cells have been completed in cells (C-K).
however there is another condition within this where if cell K says yes then lock Cells N O and P, however if it says No these cell must also be completed to take a quote number.
I have also added a macro to force enable macro with a welcome page and a macro to log the user name date and time of entry, I don't want to loose this it seems each time I try a macro for the locking cells or data validation it disables these macros.
Spreadsheet 1 has 10 columns of data (A-J). I want to copy a variable number of rows from spreadsheet 1 to spreadsheet 2.
When I paste into spreadsheet 2, I'd like to automatically insert blank cells in three places, taking the total number of columns to 13. I'd like columns C, F and I to be blank, and the last column with data to be M.
I will perform this task regularly, and add the copied cells to the bottom of spreadsheet 2, so I'd only like to insert blank cells within the range that I'm copying, not the entire spreadsheet.
I will then populate the blank cells with a VLOOKUP function. Do I need another macro to automatically add the formula to the cells, or is there a way to include this in the cell-inserting macro?
