I have a sheet containing 2 lists of categories for income and expenses. These lists are named inc and exp, respectively, and are contained in a sheet called "Lists." They are dynamic ranges, meaning every time a value is added, the named range adjusts itself to include the new value(s). [=OFFSET(Lists!$A$1,0,0,COUNTA(Lists!$A:$A),1)]
I have 2 tables summarizing 12 months of data. The tables use sumif to find all occurrences of each category and sum them. There's 1 table for income, 1 for expenses. Each is a 2 column table, with all the categories for income in column A and their total for 12 months in column B. Same for Expenses in D & E.
To populate the categories in column A & D, I am currently using the simple =Lists!A1 =Lists!A2 (inc range), =Lists!B1 =Lists!B2 (exp range) and so on... the problem is when a value is added to either list, while the named range adjusts, I have to manually drag the formulas in Column A & B down 1 more cell to include the new value.
How can I use VBA to look for the inc and exp ranges (which will change in size), then populate each table with the most recent categories?
Is anyone aware of some way to use the " dynamic named range approach" to only select the cells with numerical values in a column and name this range?
I've looked at the examples on this site but can't find any solution to this particular problem although I have a feeling that this should be possible.
I use
Set rnData = ActiveSheet. Range("ProductList")
vaData = rnData.Value
With Me.model
.Clear
.List = vaData
.ListIndex = -1
End With
to populate a combobox list. 'ProductList' is a Dynamic Named Range with the definition
=OFFSET(Stock_List!$L$2,0,0, COUNTA(Stock_List!$L:$L)-1,1)
The '-1' allows for a heading at the top of the column.
This works fine when the list in col. L has more than one entry under the heading. But with only one entry I get 'Runtime error 381 - Could not set the List property, Invalid property array index' and the debug highlights on
.list=vaData

I am working with a worksheet that has hundreds of named ranges already in-place. When the creator defined these ranges, they defined them all statically. I would like to update each named range to be a variable named range.
I was thinking about doing a massive find / replace in the VB Editor, but I can't seem to find the named ranges. I assume they were defined from within Excel by the Insert > Name > Define method, and not through VBA and that is why I can't find them. Is there any way to simplify this process instead of manually trying to update each and every range?
I have Excel 2003 with named cells, for example...
cell cell name data
A1 AAA 3
A2 BBB 1
A3 CCC 2
and so on...
When I autofilter (ascending) these cells, the data in these cells sort correctly, but the cell names stay where they're at.
cell cell name data
A1 AAA 1
A2 BBB 2
A3 CCC 3
I'm not an Excel expert so I'd like to know is there any way I could get the cell names to sort with their data.
cell cell name data
A1 BBB 1
A2 CCC 2
A3 AAA 3
I need method, using a button, that looks at a cell--say EO2, for example--, looks back on a master worksheet at a specified row and range for a match, then looks at the information from a specified range below the matching cell (The information in this column will either be blank or have an "X" in the cell), and then those rows that do not have an "X" will be hidden in the corresponding rows in the working worksheet. Therefore, if at any time the value in "EO2" ever changes, then it will automatically find a new match and repopulate and hide information as before. About 130 columns will have its own button so that a "query" can be made that depends on the information in a particular cell in that column.
The master worksheet now has matrix of 287 rows and 58 columns. Each row is for an operating procedure and each column shows a job code. An "X" in a coordinate cell for a column/row shows whether that job code is responsible for knowing that operating procedure. So, on the working sheet, an employee's primary job code is given underneath his or her name. When the button is pushed, all the operating procedures not required for a given person will be hidden and only the required ones will remain visible--grouped, if you will. Qualification dates will be easier to see now that the information is consolidated. Whenever someone transfers to a new position, a new code will be inputed on the working sheet. When the button is pushed, a new grouping will result. Any operating instructions that overlap will still have qualification dates, so that information will not need to be transcribed.
Im sorting a dynamic range as mentioned in this Sorting a Named Range. My range is called drWarningTypes and is defined as:
=OFFSET(DataSource!$A$2,0,0, COUNTA(DataSource!$A:$A)-1,1)
When there is only one cell in the range, then running the following sort function includes A1 also in the search (and also adjoining columns).....
I am trying to calculate some averages. What I have is 3 columns of data in A, B, C, also the "tasks" in A are in named ranges ex: "Award Contract" is a named range - "Task_Award" and "Confirm Updates" is a named range - "Task_Updates". I've attached a sample excel sheet.
I'd like to be able to create a macro to evaluate column A, and for every row in range "Task_Award", give me the average of the corresponding cells in column C and put it in the same range of cells in column B , then, for every row in "Task_Confirm" then give me the average of the same range of cells in column C and place the result in the same range of cells in column B. This is my very first post so I hope I am doing this correctly. I have 77 of these task ranges to evaluate and it will take a long time to do it manually. I'm thinking of a loop function.
I have source data sheet like this one: source_sht1.PNG
I want to populate the range of the same data from Column A to the separate sheet2. For example: From Cloumn A within the same "AAA' values (range: A4:A7) i want to populate all data from Column B to E (highlighted in orange). The second sheet should look like this:
Sheet2.PNG
The macros should end when Column A value = empty with this so i could finish my macro .
I am trying to find a way to create a list of unique items from a named range. I have found a few solutions using filters for ranges that are contained in the one column but not named ranges that contain multiple rows and multiple columns.
Is there any way to copy all of the unique items from the named range to another location? Lets call the named range Table1 and it spans from B2 to J100.
I am trying to build a staff roster. The staff rotate over a 4 week cycle. the name of the staff member, and their shift needs to be looked up from the key then matched with the particular week. the name and shift then need to populate specific cells.
I have attached the worksheet so you can see what i am trying to achieve.
I found this thread which deal with populating unique values in my listbox.

What these line of code mean (the ones in red).
Code:
Private Sub UserForm_Initialize()
Dim v, e
With Sheets("maintenance").Range("c2:c500")
v = .Value
End With
With CreateObject("scripting.dictionary")
[Code] ......
Note : I simple tried to check the value of v by giving msgbox (v), just below the line v = .Value.
But I got run-time error 13 : Type mismatch error.
I have been doing some statistical anaylsis in excel and have been using trendlines within scatter charts quite a bit.
I know excel can display the equation of the line as well as the r-squared on the chart. Is there any way to get the values for the trendline to appear in a cell next to the corresponding chart data? Of course, I can simply enter the formula myself that is given on the chart, but I am wondering if there is a way to do it automatically.
I have included the data below along with the trendline value that I calculated by manually entering the formula from the scatter chart.
Code:
YXTrendline Value
$78.990.53$79.79
$78.730.53$79.73
$80.550.52$80.88

Have a query that pulls general ledger data. Named Range SALES defined for Sales Account numbers. What is the best way to always have SALES (which pulls as negative number) converted to absolute values?
I have in my mind that it would be some sort of worksheet change event . . . but I don't really grasp the byval/byref TARGET concept by itself, let alone whether it can work on a named range.
I have a worksheet that has hourly data. So Column C of this worksheet looks like
1
1
1
1
2
2
2
3
3
3
3
3
3
What I want to do is, given an hour h, automatically create a named range that contains all the rows such that the value of Column C is equal to h.
have a look at the following code, the named ranges both hold one value.
Code:
Sub warning()
If Range("invAmt").Value Range("TotalInvoice").Value Then
InvoiceWarning.Show
End If
End Sub
I get the error METHOD 'RANGE OF OBJECT'_GLOBAL FAILED
I have four named ranges (Segment, Keyword, Impressions and Dropdown) and I would like to create a formula-based ranking of keywords by impressions and clicks. Using the following array formula, I am able to return the correct values for impressions or clicks:
{=LARGE(IF(Segment=DropDown,Impressions),$H7)} where $H7 is the number ranking 1, 2, 3 etc.
My question is what array formula could be used to find which row in the array returned that number and then pulls the data from the same row in the other named ranges?
Essentially find row of {=LARGE(IF(Segment=DropDown,Impressions),$H7)} but return Keyword and Clicks on that row.
Other Notes: I cannot use pivot tables and some values might be the same which would make Vlookups not accurate for duplicate values.
Link to an example document to clarify this. [URL] .......
Code:
For Each clsName In Array("Africa", "Europe", "Asia")
If I have the above array values in the named range _lstRgns in Sheet 1 of my workbook, how would I write the code to pick this up?
The named range is expandable, as it is an offset formula in the name manager.
clsName is the name of my defined array in my code
I have a range of cells that I want to use as column headings. Say the range is A1:A100. I need them to be able to be transposed across the first row of the sheet. Now I know that I can use the transpose function in a cell but this array is embedded in a macro.

(This named range is not a global name range, but a local one only for one worksheet!)
However, my code results in 0 always, althought the worksheet in question is defined (not nothing),
I see that the name range is defined properly (Edit -> Define) and refers to serval non-empty cells.
I would like to know how many cells in general a particular named worksheet range refers to. What do I do wrong?

I’m having some difficulty getting my code to work. On a worksheet there are pairs of columns containing data; the leftmost column’s range is named. I have a userform with several optionbuttons that are named with the corresponding range names. I can successfully populate the userform's combox with unique items from a named range that is selected with the optionbutton.
When user selects item with combobox, I want to parse that named range with the combobox value, selects the value in the corresponding row (to the right) and then populate the userform's listbox with that value. The nonworking code is given below:
Private Sub cbxFiltList_Change()
Dim fCntrl As Control
Dim TempRange As Range
Dim TestRange As Range
Dim cLoop As Range
Content_lbx.Clear
For Each fCntrl In UserForm1.Frame1.Controls
If TypeName(fCntrl) = "OptionButton" Then
'If the optionbutton = True then the make the range to be tested the same name as that of the optionbutton'..............
wish to write an VB macro in Excel (2003) that populates a 6 row by 10 column matrix (for a 3 D graph) by inserting values from matrix row column headers in cells in another worksheet and using goal seek to derive a value which will be pasted in the respective cell in the 6X10 matrix
Specific example: Matrix (Row Headers A2 to A7, Column Headers B1 to K1, Cell values are in B2 to K7). Please note row and column headers are numerical values since this is for a 3D graph
Macro to be written
Pick a value (numerical) from row header A3 in Sheet A and paste it in cell B6 in another sheet (Sheet B). Pick anothet value (numerical) from column header D1 in Sheet A and paste it in cell B7 in Sheet B.
Run a goal seek scenario such that cell S10 in sheet B is equal to 50 by changing cell G8 in Sheet B
Copy the value chosen/optimised by Goal Seek from cell G8 in Sheet B and paste it in Cell D3 (which is the relevant cell for the values for intersection of headers A3 and D1) in Sheet A
Macro should populate all cells in the matrix in Sheet A (matrix cells to be populated are B2 to K7) in a similar fashion
The macro should be locked in to the cells which are either being copied from or pasted into so that it still references them even if new columns or rows are inserted.
This is a floowup to the issue that was originally posted as "Returning MAX/MIN values from multiple rows in a named range ". I marked that post as solved since I have worked through part of the issue and since have a different one.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am successfully opening a .csv file using a variable value stored in a named range in my Main file (the variable includes the directory and path).
I copy data from the .csv file to the Main file then I need to close the .csv file without saving but I want to do that by using the
Windows("xxxx").Activate
command where "xxxx" is the namedrange in my Main file which stores the .csv filename (without the directory and path prefix).
I can use the
ActiveWindow.ActivatePrevious
command but if I have another workbook open, this one closes instead of the .csv file I opened from the macro.
I realise this is probably very basic and I've searched the forums but can't find any identical postings.
I need to summarize some information from a different worksheet. Worksheet A(WS-A) is the summary and worksheet B (WS-B) is the source of information. On WS-B I have a range of values under the title "Materials" which I use to put together an estimate. This range has about 25 rows and not all of them are populated depending on the needs of the particular job.
If it matters, the Materials cells are populated by a drop down "list" from yet another worksheet. On the summary (WS-A) I want to show only the cells from WS-B that have a value in them so that if, within the Materials worksheet, there are only 6 rows that have data in them...only those 6 rows are shown on the summary worksheet.
I have a combobox on a spreadsheet it is populated on a sheet called teams :
The Format control has an input range of: Teams!$B:$B
Now this has a few thousand empty cells in the range but I would need it to only populate with the cells that are not empty.
