I know how to remove the first part of a text, but not the end. I have a very large amount of data in which the first column contains a product description and then the UPC code. I need to isolate the product name from the UPC code into 2 columns. I used =RIGHT(B2,14) to isolate the UPC, but since the length of the product name varies, I'm not sure how to isolate the product name. I have looked at using the TRIM and TRUNC functions without any luck. 'Text to columns' doesn't work because I have multiple spaces, 'Text to columns' would work if I could used 2 digits as the delimiter, but the function doesn't allow that.
Can someone please suggest a function or formula for this?
Here is an examples of how the text appears in the field. (Note: I only need to cut off the UPC code, I need the measure information to stay).
some really long product name 12 oz 5 bag 09-99999-99999
another shorter name 2 oz 09-99999-99998
I am editing a wine database which contains a vast amount of data, one column has the wine name and sometimes the vintage year in the begining or at the end of the cell. Sometimes the year is made of 2 digits (03, 05, ..) or 4 digits (1978, 2004, 2005, ...). Is there a way to remove this vintage year form the string?
to make matters worse, there is often a single quote/apostrophe in front of the vintage year, which is driving me mad as 98% of the time it is one of these hidden ones that cannot be deleted using the find/replace function.
examples are like below: De Wetshof Finesse/Lesca Cahrdonnay ‘07 De Wetshof Sauvignon Blanc ‘07 Lord Neethling Cabernet Franc 2002 Lord Neethling Pinotage ‘01 Bouchard Finlayson Tete de Cuvee Pinot Noir ‘07 Jacobsdal Pinotage 1994 Zondernaam Sauvignon Blanc 2007 Tokara Red 1976 St Emilion 03 Tokara rose Plasir de Merle Cabernet Sauvignon ‘05 DuToitskloof Pinotage/Merlot/Ruby Cabernet 1999 Tradition Juracon 375ml
I have been searching the Internet for the past 2 days without luck on how to delete the end of string vintage year.
I have had some luck with the left side, as in: =IF(ISERROR(VALUE(LEFT(B2,SEARCH(" ",B2)-1))),B2,MID(B2,SEARCH(" ",B2)+1,LEN(B2)))
As I am not an expert with Excel, I have no idea on how to use VBA (every time I have tried even basic things, I failed) nor even sure how the above funtion works (found it on another site).
I thought I could acheive my goal in two steps, first removing the left side vintage and use this partial result with the RIGHT equivalent funtion, but it simply is not working!

Ideally I would love to cut the vintage year, whether 2 or 4 digit, whether on right or left of cell and paste it in another cell, so to avoid manually doing it.
However, this is surely too complicated to do, so iwould settle with just deleting the vintage year and manually typing the vintage in another cell.
1. Remove the first 4 digits from each "Appeal ID"
2. Insert a new column (first column) called "Chapter"
3. Run a v-lookup down the new column against a file that is stored on my desktop. The v-lookup will cross check the Appeal ID against the file to identify the Chapter
4. Sort the data alphabetically by Chapter
5. Create seperate Excel files for each Chapter ...
I have a excel file, I need to remove the first two digits if they are certain numbers, such as 12. For example, if the number is 12987654, then I need remove 12, and it will be "987654" , but if it is not 12 in the first two digits, then keep it no change, for example if it is 345678, then keep it.
I barely work with Excel formulas, now I need connect the excel file with my Database table. I need to make the file matches the DB.
Got a slight problem; I am making a "worker-plan", where you should be able to write a name on one file and have it updated (removed) from the equivalent columns on another file automatically. Here's an example with two separate projects:
Project 1 before and after changes: Attachment 257366 Attachment 257367
Project 2 before and after changes: Attachment 257368 Attachment 257369
You can see here how I intended it to work. When one worker is moved from Project 1 to Project 2, that worker should also be removed from those weeks in Project 1. The previous worker from Project 2 should also be removed from those weeks (in Project 2).
Are there any formulas that can make this work automatically? All week numbers will belong to the same columns in all files.
Edit: There are 30 files that should be syncronized, not just two.. I could also gather all files into one file with sheets, instead of having seperate files.
I have a text field (description) and in the description i have a product code S followed by 7 digits and then in the process of pasting into excel i have lost the space after this code and before the next text. E.g. "Ballpoint pen S1234567With Free Delivery" should be "Ballpoint pen S1234567 With Free Delivery".
I dont know how to say =if("S" followed by 7 numbers, subsitute ..... etc)
I understand how to use IF and substitute. its the 7 numbers part i am stuck on.
I could do it in access with the wildcards but excel is different.
I have a string in a cell that contains a name, a 3-4 character alpanumeric code and then a 4-6 digit number, each separated by a space. An example or two:
J Bloggs SPEC 123456 J Smith AG06 9364 J & K Brown SWP 358686
I need to be able to have in a new cell the 4-6 digit number at the right of the cell. give a formula that will separate the data I need? I've tried numerous ways without success.
I have a spreadsheet which performs certain operations as long as I insert 3 values in 3 cells. The results for different scenarios are shown within the same sheet. excample:
I insert 3,52,051,22 then many calculations are performed automatically and the result are shown in other cells in the same sheet.
My goal is to be able to copy/paste ca 8-10 strings of information at the same time. All of them at the same time, instead of only one at the time. Also, there will be a textstring and some digits I don’t need along with the copy/pasted info.Ex:
Name Time Date X1 X2 X3 Lou 22.11 01.03.2006 3,5 2,05 9,72 Lie 12.01 01.03.2006 2,5 2,65 1,22 Tom 17.09 01.03.2006 4,5 8,09 3,28 etc.....................................
I am wanting to create a VB script that will take a number (in general format) of two or three digits, convert it to text, then make sure that there are enough zeros preceeding the number to make exactly 6 digits. Examples of the initial number (before the macro is run) and the final number (after it is run): ..
I have a large file with cells filled with text (converted from a database, imported into Excel). The text is in rows of column A and always contains a 16 digit number, which is what I need. I am able to clean up this text and show only this number, but then Excel shows the last digit as a '0'.
An example of the text I need to filter the 16-digit number from: GIRO 6838657 K MAHMODBETALINGSKENM. 7062542158461684 STORNOADMINISTRATIEVE REDEN 1 ZIE DE TOEGEZONDEN KENNISGEVINGVAN VERHAAL OF CJIC.NL/VZD
I've altered some of the information in here so this is fake. The text is messy but all I need is the number.
This is the macro I use to clean up the text and leave only the 16 digit number:
Sub CleanUp Dim e As Variant With CreateObject("VBScript.RegExp")
[Code].....
It sort of works, but when I run it, I get this number as a result: 7062542158461680 (last digit is changed into a zero).
I've been trying to insert this line into the macro but it doesn't work: Columns("A:A").NumberFormat = "@"
How do I change the outcome of this macro into the actual number?
If this is impossible to do, I can also manage if there is a way to filter only the last 9 digits from the 16 digit number. I can work with that, too.
I am trying to write a bit of code to go into a macro and as I am very much a leaner, I thought I would create the formula I need and record it, then copy in the relevant bit. However, I cannot even get the formula to work - never mind the macro bit!! The formula I am trying to do is something like this...
In column S:S IF the first digit in R2 (and eventually R2 to R lastrow) = 1 to 3, concatenate Q2 (and eventually Q2 to Q lastrow) + "/" + "Q1" IF the first digit in R2 (and eventually R2 to R lastrow) = 4 to 6, concatenate Q2 + "/" + "Q2" IF the first digit in R2 (and eventually R2 to R lastrow) = 7 to 9, concatenate Q2 + "/" + "Q3" IF the first digit in R2 (and eventually R2 to R lastrow) = 10 to 12, concatenate Q2 + "/" + "Q4"
Column R:R has the year and the first digit of Q:Q hold the month so I want to end up with 2007/Q1 etc.
I have the following working great, but would like to see it refine a little, as the data vlookup is 6 digits, but i only needs the last 4 digits is enough for me to work, my question is how do i go about adding that to the following function i have implemented and working fine.
=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(B4,' cmfs01home$peter[tracker data 4-25-14-a.xlsx]ControlSheet'!$B$2:$F$301,4,FALSE)),"",VLOOKUP(B4,' cmfs01home$peter[tracker data 4-25-14-a.xlsx]ControlSheet'!$B$2:$F$301,4,FALSE)
How to convert any types format into Text with 5 digits in selection?
For instance, the content I select is "234", and I want it to convert to "00234". Just like the function "TEXT" in excel. How can I realize it promptly in VBA?
I have attached a small sample of some data I am working on (the total is about 6000 lines overall spread over 30 worksheets), but I am stuck trying to get a nested vlookup to work.
What I have
A list of codes contained in 'A' and values in 'B'. I have grouped together the codes in colum 'A' starting with the same 4 digits, and gave them a named range. Columns G and H show all the possible range names. 'K' is a list of all the seperate codes (I know it is the same as 'A', but this is just an example to get a formula working)
What I would like formula column L
to lookup the first 4 digits in column 'K', use that value to lookup the range name in 'G & H', then using the FULL code in K, look for that in the corresponding name range and return the value from 'B'
i have 2 coulmns in a listbox. The columns cant display more than 11 digits. So basically it would look like this 1.23456789E+12. I even tried playing with the Columnwidth but that didnt work.
I need a lookup formula that matches first three digits of column, U (153 - LINE PIPE), and match Total 13153 - LINE PIPE, 7th, 8th, and 9th digit in column C. and bring value from either column T,
The formula that I am using is not obviously not correct, I am putting it here to show what I am trying to do.
I basically I have a column with numbers. All the numbers are positive integers. What I like to do is have a VBA function that extracts the integers with the largest number of digits. So for example if we have the following column:
12
123
234
12346
2345
[code].....
So basically we search for largest number of digits, and extract the numbers that fit this category, which could be just one number or multiple numbers.
I am trying to filter my excel sheet based on certain digits in a column of part numbers. The part number has 10 characters. I would like to filter it so that all part numbers where the 4th character is the number 5 or 7 is listed and where the 5th character is a zero. (i.e. R4X5831310 is a part number where 5 is the 4th character; I would like the filter to show this part number)
I have the following two columns, and would like to obtain for each individual Company, the corresponding Country values excluding duplicates as text in a single cell.
Company 2Country B Company 2Country C Company 3Country C Company 3Country C Company 5Country A Company 5Country C Company 5Country C
For example: - For Company 2, a cell containing "Country B, Country C" - For Company 3, a cell containing "Country C" - For Company 5, a cell containing "Country A, Country C"
I've approached generating an array using an IF statement, as in =IF(INDEX(A1:A8="Company 5",,),INDEX(B1:B8,,)," "), which returns the following array: ={" ";" ";" ";" ";" ";" ";" ";"Country A";"Country C";"Country C";" ";" ";" ";" "}.
The question is: how do I get that array to produce, as text in a cell: "Country A, Country C". Note that the duplicate Country C has been removed.
There are a few "StringConcat" User-defined functions that I've found elsewhere on the internet, but they don't seem to be able to handle to conditionally generated IF Index array, which I would think is key to parsing between Countries corresponding to each Company in the list.
I have a column in which the cells contain values such as "012321 BGH YRK". Is there any way you know of that I can remove just the text from every cell and keep the numeric values? A mass operation because there are literally hundreds of these cells. I am using Excel 2001.
I need to write a VBA code to remove the value of the cells in column B if the value in column A is empty. In my excel sheet, the user will paste hyperlinks in column B. If any link does not meet certain conditions, the cell in the same row in column A will be empty.
I want to have a change event so that after pasting links, it automatically deletes the links from the cells in column B if the cell in column A is empty
I need to remove the duplicates under column B for each item under column A and I can't seem to figure out how to do it.
I'm using Excel 2007; I would prefer a VBA solution, as I have to do this on a monthly basis. However, if a formula is the best way to go, then that's just fine. Either way, I'm preparing the data for a pivot table. I am unable to post the actual document in the interest of data protection.
Essentially, I'd like to turn this-
_ A B 1 Paris Bill 2 Paris Bill 3 Paris Mike 4 Paris Derek 5 Paris Derek 6 London Mike 7 London Bill 8 London Mike 9 London Bill 10 London Derek 11 Tokyo Derek 12 Tokyo Derek 13 Tokyo Derek
into this-
_ A B 1 Paris Bill 2 Paris Mike 3 Paris Derek 4 London Mike 5 London Bill 6 London Derek 7 Tokyo Derek
In other words, each city should have only one instance of any name that accompanies it; not all names will accompany each city.
My issue is that I have 1200+ addresses to make more readable - the first column is the street name, the second is the post code(s) relative to the street - what Ideally I'd like to achieve is one row per street, the street name followed by the post codes... i.e. take this...
I have two txt file where the report is being generated but importing it in excel and using text to column distorts the data plus it has a header which repeats on every page... how can delete those header and tidy the sheet up. I have attached the txt header example.. Any help on this.
I need to format C2 so that it removes all text that comes after a dash in B2, but if no dash exists, then it returns the text: Parent. For example, here are 3 values in B2, B3, and B4:
1234-s 1234-m 1234
In C2, C3, and C4 I'd like to have the following values returned based on the above values in B:
