Search Keyword In Worksheet / Copy And Paste Adjacent Cells To New Worksheet
Sep 24, 2012
I've been tackling this data capture/paste issue for a week or so. I found the string below which does provide a good foundation for my challenge. But, my basic level of understanding macros limits my modifications to meet my needs.
[URL] ......
I have 20 worksheets in my master file corresponding to Excel files individual associates will update weekly. After the associates have updated their individual files for the week, I want to capture the data entered and paste values into a master file containing a worksheet for each associate (sharing the same name as the individual associate file). All of these files are housed on team SharePoint sites.
I need a macro to perform several steps after clicking a "Run Update" macro button in the master file:
Open individual associate fileIn master file, search for each Initiative listed in column B (starting cell B3) in the individual associate file (in column B starting at cell B11)If Initiative is found in individual associate file, copy adjacent data in columns D:J for the respective rowIn master file, paste values to the corresponding Initiative row for the corresponding week's worth of dataIf Initiative is not found in the individual associate file, move to the next Initiative listed in the master fileRepeat these steps for each individual associate file
Linking would be the easiest way to accomplish this if I wanted to have a multitude of weekly individual files for the associates. However, I'd rather each associate have one file for them to update (basically overwriting their previous week's entries).
I need to ensure the paste values corresponds to the appropriate day of the week. In simpler terms, if the date in the individual associate file in cell D9 reads Oct 1, 2012, the data captured from that row needs to be pasted to the corresponding row/column in the master file that reads the same date.
Each Worksheet has a unique identifying label - "Requirement Number"
Within each worksheet is free form text data of the following categories:
Requirement: 10358 Title: Customer requirement 1 Text: This describes the requirements for a product for the customer[code].....
The text of the categories may begin in column A or B
What I need is a macro that will search each worksheet for a category, e.g., "Configuration:", copy the row where the keyword "Configuration" is found, and then have that row transposed and pasted to another WorkSheet (e.g., "Extracted Data") cell.
Data extracted from the next Worksheet would begin a new row in "Extracted Data"
Example: Requirement1 Title Text Verification Method-Level ... Requirement2 Title Text Verification Method-Level ... Requirement3 Title Text Verification Method-Level ...
The Requirement# is best extracted from the WorkSheet tab since some of the worksheets are missing this information. I can provide an example spreadsheet, however, I was not able to figure out how do that in this post.
I found a thread similar to this problem:
find and copy row
However, it only finds, copies and pastes for one keyword.
i will illustrate what i want to do here with these two excel sheets below. I want to some sort of coding that searches for A and B (Name of the Branch) from sheet 2 and copy the No. of transactions given against A & B from sheet 2 to sheet 1.
OR keep just A & B in sheet 2 and delete the rest of the rows so that i can manually copy and paste values against A & B.
I am using the following macro which copy and paste certain info from one sheet to another. The macro I am using is
Code: Sub test() With Sheets("Invoice") .Range("A4:C17").Copy Sheets("Transactions").Range("b" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Offset(1).PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues End With End Sub
Is it possible to copy the value of B2 in the sheet (Invoice) as well and paste it for as many entries there are in the rows 4:17 in the sheet "Transactions". For example say i have items in row 4:10 when it copies the info to the sheet Transactions then it must copy the entry that is in B2 on sheet Invoice also in column a 4:10.
I would like to copy several cell entries from one worksheet ("Entry") and paste then into a new line of another worksheet ("Contact DB") which will serve as a repository/database. Ideally, I would like to clear the values in the first "Entry" worksheet once this is done.
The thing that is throwing me off is that the data entered into my first "Entry" worksheet is not all on one row. However, I have recorded all the starting point references and destination cells (i.e. "B2" from "Entry" --> "A5" of "Contact DB") so it's ready to go into code.
Using the following code (which I tested for copying and pasting the first cell of interest) but I can't seem to get it to work:
Code: Public Sub Macro1() Application.CutCopyMode = False Sheets("Entry").Range("B2").Copy Sheets("Contact DB").Range("A5").Paste
End Sub
I'm brand new to vba so I'm struggling to understand the code and where it goes. That brings me to Q2 (and a dumb one it is). Where do I put this code? I already have one bit of code (for allowing multiple entries in a dropdown list) for the "Entry" worksheet under the "Microsoft Excel Objects" folder. Is this where this copy and paste could would go too? Or do I need to insert a "module?"
I have this Excel File which has some sheets. All sheets are the same format like this: "I have read-circled the cells of interest"
I want to have a macro that can read the data from all the sheets (regardless of their name) and from the specific cells "red-circled" and copy and paste them into new sheet named "Report" in table format. Like this:
I have data in some of the cells within range A26:A39
These cells are populated via an IF function on another worksheet. Even though the cells appear blank (as in the value returned is ""), there is a formula in these cells. I think it's called formula blank?
I am looking for a way to copy the data from the cells within the range which are not blank (ie: not = "") and paste this data elsewhere on the sheet in a list with no blank spaces in between.
I anticipate that there will be 4 non blank cells within this range.
Ideally I would have data from the nonblank cells copied and pasted to cells A40 A41 A42 A43
I want to enter a value in a textbox, search for it in an worksheet, and populate other textboxes with adjacent values if the value is found. Anyway, the problem is that if the value is not found, I get a debug error.
I'm sure there's far better code to do what I need, but I tried to keep it simple. With the above code, it only works if the value is found. If it's not, I get an error. So how do I make it so that if the value is not found, the value of the textbox2 is "Not Found" or something...
with a macros to search for a certain value through an input box, and once that value is found, I need its corresponding row to be cut and pasted into the next available row in its corresponding sheet, and then the remainging rows to be shifted up.
For example, in column B of sheet 1, I have trap ID's. I need an input box that will search for the 'trap ID' that I enter, and then cut that row and paste it into its corresponding sheet. I will have numerous other sheets with different titles, so I was hoping to add the sheet to transfer the row to in the inputbox. I have found and modified a code, but cannot quite figure out what im doing wrong. I have attached my current code.
A sheet, compose of groups of 9 items and their corresponding qty. I need to have the same serial no. be commented on each items of the same group. I am doing in this mechanical way:
1. add comment of serial no. on the first item of group, 2. copy and paste, with paste special>>comments, on the remaining items of the same group, 3. Repeat this sequences on the other groups, which means hundreds.
Other than these tedious procedures, is there any better way?
I have a spreadsheet which has a source worksheet, containing 2 columns with thousands of client numbers and account numbers. I have a destination worksheet which contains certain account numbers which are featured in the source sheet.
What I need to do is pull the matching client numbers across from the source sheet into the destination sheet. An example is attached.
I'm trying to find a way to search a second sheet in a workbook for specific criteria outlined in a first sheet (in my attached example, from A3 downwards within the 'list of search criteria' sheet), and then to copy any secondary data found against a successful search match to the original sheet, transposed against its corresponding matched search term.
As you can see in the example, the search term 'bindi' (A4 in the 'list of search criteria' sheet) appears in the 'data' sheet 3 times - the secondary data for these occurences ('feathery', 'Fibonacci', 'glassy') is copied to the 'bindi' row on the first sheet and is offset with each copy to produce a transposed-esque effect of copy and paste.
If it's any help, there are a maximum of 9 matches for a single search term in the real document.
Thanks in advance for your help... I tried to adapt a previous solution given to me for a similar question but failed miserably. I bow humbly to your expertise!
I have a workbook that contains 50 worksheets named 1-50. I need to add more worksheets. all the formulas in the worksheets always refers to the previous worksheet.
How can i make a copy of the worksheet named 50, name it 51 and have all the formulas in worksheet 51 refer back to worksheet 50?
I have two excel sheets. The first sheet has a column with codes and another column with dates. There are more than one date for the same code. The second sheet has just one unique code. I would like to match the code on the second sheet with the code on the first sheet and return ALL the dates associated with that code to the second sheet - horizontally.
I did a search for " import text" and found some promising leads, but not exactly what I was looking for. I have tried running macros and looking at the code but don't know how to pass the file names from the the D47:D147 range to VBA(see below). I saw elsewhere that Excel can be told to create a temporary batch file, and that the batch file with the command "copy text1.txt+text2.txt+text3.txt all.txt" for example could be used to merge the 3 text files into a file called all.txt. I don't however know how specify the path where copy starts, to tell the batch file to look in subdirectories or to pass the file into Excel. I've posted this question yesterday to Yahoo Answers http://tinyurl.com/omers and http://tinyurl.com/rfww9 without much luck.
Below is the macro I would like:I have text files whose names are found in the range D47:D147 although without the appended ".txt" extension. The sheets can only contain one name sometimes, but on average 8 to 10, so in the average case only cells D47:D56 would have entries. The text files are found in the say H:Textfiles directory or subdirectories.I would like Excel to find these files, concatenate them with a row between each file, and paste the results into cell K251.Finally, the text import wizard should be used with a space as a delimiter and the last 3 columns (it's sometimes only 2) of the concatenated file, not imported.
I use the Macro below to search in a datafile and copy the results into another worksheet. Only problem, when the macro finds a result he should copy and start over again, starting from the row below, but somehow he start 2 rows lower, so I'm missing results. (when he should copy row 2,3,4,5,6 - the result is only 2,4,6) I tried changing
WerkRij = WerkRij + 1 into Werkrij = WerkRij StartRij = Rij + 1 into StartRij = StartRij but then he keep searching and copying the same cells
I wish to compare each item (4-8 digit alphanumeric ID) in a list in column B of worksheet 1 (Portfolio) to all of the items in column B of worksheet 3 (EssBase Cap). The data (ID) in column B of 'EssBase Cap'! is concatenated with its description so my code needs to strip off the leading zeros and everything after "-" in order to do the comparison. Once a match is found it should copy the corresponding values in 'EssBase Cap'! for that row, column D and E to 'Portfolio' Column J, and K. I have created some pseudo code and need to translate this to Excel VBA
Dim IBSPWD As String Dim ProjectPCN As String Dim Pos As Integer Dim I As Integer Dim J As Integer For I = 3 To 'to end of range ? WHat is the code to find end of the range IE no more data? For J = 6 'to end of range ? The nested for loop will check each item in Portfollio and compare it to each item in Essbase Cap IBSPWD = 'EssBase Cap'!Cell(J,"B") 'fill in the string with data Pos = InStr(1, IBSPWD, "-", vbTextCompare) 'find length of the string befor "-"...............................
I have a multi worskheet document and i want to be able to create a macro that will search individual cells in a range on each sheet and if it locates a 3 letter mneumonic (STK in this case), it will then copy that data for the whole row and paste on an additional worksheet. I also need the data pasted on the new worksheet to be protected ie not overwritten when the macro runs again. So this mneumonic could exist anywhere in column A (A1,A500).
I would simply like a Macro to 'find' or search keyword data in a spreadsheet and copy the chosen rows and past them into a new excel sheet. I want to be able to do that as many time as I need, currently I have the following code, it does not seem to work well for me, I can only use it to search one time, cause an error after that
Sub FindIt() Dim rngWB As Range, c As Range Dim strFind As String, firstAddress As String Dim wsCount As Integer, ws As Integer Dim rw As Long strFind = Application.InputBox("Type in the name you wish to find.", "FindIt", Type:=2) Application. ScreenUpdating = False Worksheets.Add(After:=Worksheets(Worksheets.Count)).Name = "Blank" Sheets(1).Select...................................
I currently have created a database (sheet two) with information including ID # (VH-XXXXX) in Column A and all the necessary information related to that unique Item. What I would like to do is search based on the ID number, have it filter, then copy and paste the row into another worksheet. Is this possible? I am relatively new to VBA and have written codes for copy and pasting rows, but never with an autofulter.
I have to edit the following test to have the possibility to insert in the new row,new VALUES. These data are in a different sheet where I'm working but in the same file xls.
I have a workbook with 4 worksheet that store different type of data. It also has a userform that load at start of the application which is to search the data in the workbook. The userform has a combobox where the names of the sheets are stored. when the user selects say Sheet2 in the combobox, it enables the relevant textboxes on the userform and activates the worksheet at the change event. The userform has a search button that searches all the worksheets based on the text entered in a textbox.
The problem: how to search based on 1 textbox. What I want is: say for e.g the end-user selects sheet2 from the combobox, this intern enables 4 textboxes (Name, DOB, Nationality, ID #) on the userform. The end-user should have the liberty to enter data in 1 and/or any of the textboxes. The search should be performed, that if data is only in 1 of any of textboxes then give all rows that fit that criteria and display in a temp worksheet. if say the name and dob is filled by the user than what matches both should be displayed in a temp worksheet. if say dob, name and ID# given so the search button should narrow down to fit all 3 criteria and then display result in temp worksheet. As if mentioned data can be entered in either just 1 or any or all textboxes.
E.g. the worksheet is (Columns are Name, Nationality, DOB, ID#)
row 1 = name: Steven Martin, DOB: 27-may-1993, Nationality: Trinidad & Tobago, ID #: 1234567 row 2 = name: Gary Richards, DOB: 2-FEB-1993, Nationality: British, ID #: 456789 row 3 = name: David Cohen, DOB: 27-May 1993, Nationality: American, ID #: 98765 row 4 = name: Roberto McDonalds, DOB 21-Jul-1962, Nationality: British, ID # 654321 row 5= name: Gary Richards, DOB: 01-Dec-1978, Nationality: Australian, ID # 1234567
Now if the user enters only name as "Gary Richards" and search then row 2 and 5 should be displayed in a temp worksheet. if user enters name Roberto McDonald and ID# 1234567 then it should not display anything. if user enters DOB 27-may-1993 and nationality British and ID # 1234567 then as well shouldn't display anything and should a msgbox "no data found".
