Sort Postcode List Alphabetically And Numerically
Aug 8, 2013
How can I sort the attached list both alphabetically and numerically. I have a list of UK postcode sectors which I am trying to sort alphabetically and numerically, the order should be eg AB1 0, AB10 1, G2 1, G20 1 but excel wont allow that sort order. There are three postcode formats
XX11 1
X1 1
X11 1
Where X an Y could be any letters in the alphabet and 1 could be any digit 0 to 9. Have attached a short list and formula in column B which would allow me to sort the list in column A which I can then apply to my full list.

I am trying to create an alphabetised unique list for a report from an Excel master file and have searched the internet for solutions which all only seem to half work for me. I've copied a couple of array formulae below to try what I'm after and what the results are. 'RefSource' is the name I've given to the column of data I'm trying to sort.
{=INDEX(RefSource, MATCH(0, COUNTIF($A$2:A2, RefSource),0))}
This one works when I copy the formula down and gives me the unique list but doesn't sort the it into alphabetical order.
{=INDEX(RefSource, MATCH(MIN(IF(COUNTIF($P$1:P1, List)=0, 1, MAX((COUNTIF(RefSource, "

I have a long list of chemical names that I need to sort alphabetically. A problem arises wherein many of the chemical names are preceded by numbers, as in 1,1,1-Trichloroethane. When Excel sorts the list, it of course groups all entries beginning with 1,1,1- together, then 1,1,2-, and so on, then alphabetically. How can I get Excel to ignore the preceding numbers, and sort only alphabetically?

I have 9 columns of data in C2-C10 that I can sort numerically by the values in C2. All the numeric values in C2 are also in C1 but C1 has additional numbers not in C2.
I want to sort C2-C10 such that each row in C2-C10 aligns with its respective value in C1.
e.g. If C1 contains 1,2,5,8,34,42,56 and C2 contains only 2,5,34,56 I want the row (of C2-C10) with C2=2 to align with the cell where C1=2. And where C2=34 I want the row (C2-C10) with C2=34 to align with the cell where C1=34.
Is this possible though i'm not sure my explanation of what I want to do is good enough!
Note that my dataset is going to be very large (500,000 rows).

In the attached example file, I have two tabs: options and sets. The options tab is to be populated from a form. The sets tab is to draw data from the options tab to create teaching sets. I have managed to create an array formula that does this for me, but what I would like it to do is sort my resulting list alphabetically. For reasons that I won't go into, I need the data on the sets tab to remain in three columns: First Name, Surname and Form.
This is the array formula I am using at the moment: AliGW - Example.xlsx

I've located the following color sort VBA that sorts worksheets by color and it is working well. I'm trying to modify the code to sort each of the "color grouped" sheets alphabetically. That is, sort by color and then each color group sorted alphabetically.
VB:
Sub SortWorksheetsByColor(Optional ByVal SortByAsc As Boolean = True)
Dim i As Long
Dim j As Long
Dim ShtC() As Long
Dim ShtN() As String
Dim t, n As Long
Dim lngSU As Long

I have a list of dates and need to define every 7 days as a week starting a week 1 and descending numerically. I'm doing this as a set up for an INDEX, MATCH function I'm going to write.
I have attached a sample of what I'm trying to achieve
Starting in A2 are a list of dates, starting in B4 I have week 1 listed and want the week 1 listed for the first 7 rows, then week 2 for the next 7 rows, then week 3 and so on.
Trying to figure out an easy way to automate this process so I don't have to type the week, copy it to the next 6 cells and go down the list that way.

I have a spreadsheet with names in column A. These names are sorted alphabetically. I want to add a new name automatically and it shoudl appear at the right position, alphabetically. I wrote the below code, based on the ASCII number of the beginning letter of the name. This does indeed identify approximately where to place the new name. But it's far from easy and I doubt it's efficient.
This is the code I produced thus far....the short version...
Option Explicit
Sub mytest()
Dim firstletter As String
Dim secondletter As String
Dim thirdletter As String
Dim firstletter2 As String
Dim secondletter2 As String
Dim thirdletter2 As String
Dim lowestmatch As Long
Dim secondmatch As Long
Dim firstdifference As Long
Dim seconddifference As Long
Dim thirddifference As Long
Dim myrow As Long
Dim lastrow
Dim cell
Dim empname As String

I have a table of data which I need to put in numerical order automatically (i.e. as if I were to use a formula in excel).
The table is located in cells Z157:Z264, and I would like the results to be output in cells Z45:Z152.
I know you can do this manually using the "Data" > "Sort" tool in excel but I could do with a formula for it really.

This is for a race track. Drivers sign in on one sheet. On that sheet there is 4 different columns. Column 1 lists the division that they race in. Column 2 is the name of the driver. Column 3 is his car #. Column 4 is the number that he draws that decides his starting position. Typically there is 2 heat races per division with the odd number that is drawn being in the first heat and the even number being in the second heat. I created a second sheet called heat races. I am using an index function with a small function with a row. I have my divisions listed separately with 2 heats per division. I want to display the car number per division but lined up by the position that they draw. I have figured out how to display all of the cars per division, but I can't figure out how to separate them by what they draw (odd and even and in order from lowest to highest).

I've been assigned an assessment involving excel (2007), which involves me creating a small business system.
Part of this system involves a spreadsheet with a list of engineers and the postcode range that they are allocated to to fix callout problems.
What I would like to know, is if a callout request is made using a postcode, is it possible to automatically assign the engineer to the request?
Example, J Scott's work range is NE10 - NE19
If I entered the postcode NE12 7TD into the callout request form, is it possible to use formula or VB to assign J Scott's ID to the callout request?
All suggestions and help are greatly appreciated, I would request that solutions are kept as simple as possible as long as it's not much to ask for D:.
A possible solution i've thought of is making 2 fields in each of the engineer's rows, one being the lowest area range, and the other being the highest (e.g. J Scott's would be 10 and 19 respectivly) from there, I could possibly use formulae to assign the engineer's ID, and get his details using VLOOKUP.

I'm trying to find a formula that will put a space in the correct place in a British postcode.
I have a column I need to sort this way. Some of the postcodes already have the correct space and others don't.
British postcodes can be in several formats......
n = a letter
1 = a number
n11 1nn
n1 1nn
n1 1n
n1n 1n
n1n 1nn
n11n 1n
n11n 1nn
nn1 1nn
nn1 1n
nn11 1nn
nn11 1n
On a side note I need to make all the text uppercase. In the column some already have uppercase and others don't.

1-1
1-2
1-3
1-4 ... etc.
I have uploaded the 'invoice' that I am currently using.

I am working on an excel spreadsheet that has multiple "sheets" to it. On the first sheet I have multiple columns worth of info and on the second sheet I am trying to copy some of the info from the first sheet.
For example:
Sheet 1, Column A2 has the number 1 in it.
On sheet 2 I have entered the command "=SHEET1A2" and it copies the info as I had hoped.
However, here is where my issue comes into place.
When I sort Column A on sheet 1 numerically, my answer on sheet 2 changes to whatever the new number is in box A2 on sheet 1.
Is there a way I can copy the info so that it changes as I sort the column numerically or alphabetically?

I have this function that checks a postcode and returns a value using the first part of the postcode.
What i would like to know is how to modify the function so if there is only the first part of a postcode already entered, it looks for that.
At the moment sometimes i get #N/A even though i know that value is in there.
Code:
=INDEX(U$4:U$1068,LOOKUP(1068,MATCH(IF({0,1},LEFT(B338,FIND(" ",B338)-1),LEFT(B338,1+ISERR(MID(B338,2,1)+0))),T$4:T$1068,0)))

Column D contains a complete address eg
60 Braugham Road, Wallasey, Merseyside CH46 1LP
I would like to be able to extract the postcode into column E, and then the address into columns F, G, H etc so that I can use the data for mailmerge docs. Is there a forumula or a macro that can be used to identify and extract the postcode? The postcode will usually be either one or two letters with one or two numbers, then a number and two letters. eg it might be as above or B6 9XF etc.

I have a very large spread sheet of about 20,000 rows. I need to output to a cell postcode ranges based on the Zone. Not all the numbers in the postcode zones are consecutive.
For the example below, the output cell for the DWN range would display like this: 0800-0801, 0804, 0810-0813
Each output cell postal range must be specific to each zone.
Postcode Zone 0200 CBA 0200 CBA 0221 CBA 0800 DWN 0800 DWN 0801 DWN 0804 DWN 0810 DWN 0810 DWN 0810 DWN 0810 DWN 0810 DWN 0810 DWN 0810 DWN 0810 DWN 0811 DWN 0812 DWN 0812 DWN 0813 DWN
Is there anyway to do this without manually doing it? I would like to tell you I've tried this and that but I've never done anything like this before so I really don't know where to start.
