Updating Closed Excel Sheet

Jun 26, 2012

I have two Excel sheets (test-excel-1.xlsx & test-excel-2.xls)The test-excel-2.xls will never be opened. When I update cells in test-excel-1.xlsx and save, I want them to automatically update to the test-excel-2.xls without having to open it. I have tried the "='[test-excel-1.xlsx]Sheet1'!$G$4" but that needs me to open test-excel-2.xlsI also want original values to be pasted in test-excel-2.xls rather than the code (this is later used in another program).

Updating Hidden Sheet From Closed Master

Aug 4, 2006

Whilst my question is partially answered in other threads, I don't seem to be able to get enough info to piece together a complete solution for my required task.

I have a "master" workbook that contains worksheets that are simply lists to be referred to by other workbooks...
IE; one worksheet is a list of customer names, another is a list of products, etc, etc...
The idea is that I only have to update the data in one place, and all the workbooks that use this information can draw the current data from a single source...

What I require; is some VBA code to import the require worksheet from the closed "master" workbook, and hide the imported worksheet so it's not seen by the user... this action would have to replace the previous copy of the hidden worksheet...
Ideally this would happen automatically when the user workbook was opened...

List The File Name In One Excel Sheet, If Condition Is Met In 1000 Closed Workbooks

Nov 19, 2008

I have 1000 workbooks in a folder, each workbooks format is same.
as of now I open each workbook, and check if values in A10 is equal to B10, that is if the value in A10 is "100" I will check if B10 is also "100" if not I will make a note the file name.

I have more than 1000 workbooks in a folder, It is really difficult to open and check if the values are same. is there a macro, which will check the condition A10 = B10, if not get the file name in one sheet.

Updating A Summary Sheet From A Different Workbook Sheet

Nov 12, 2007

I have a summary sheet which shows a range of information to give a full overview of the main information from individual feature forms.

At present, the manager is manually linking the cells from this sheet from the individual feature sheets with the normal =A1 kind of formula.

Is there an easier way to do this?

The solution would need to insert a new row each time in the summary sheet and pull out about five key bits of information from the feature sheet.

Run A Vba Code When Sheet Is Closed

Mar 15, 2007

I want to run vba code when a excel worksheet closes. But I want this code to be used for every worksheet that opens. So the macro or vba code has to be loaded with Excel automaticly. I don't want to reenter the code in every template I use.
In access you can attach a module that runs when access or the application is closed: 'Private sub form_close()' Is it possible to create something like this in Excel.

An explanation what I want to do:
I Open/create a workbook from within access. When the worbook closes I want to look with vba if there is a cell called " Total" and if so I want to open a access databases and submit the total to the database. I don't want access to wait untill the worksheet is closed. If the worksheet stays open for a longer time I want to work on in access with other tasks.

Importing A Sheet From A Closed Workbook

Dec 10, 2004

I found this code on the net, and it works, it DOES import the sheet specified from a closed status, but it adds 0 where there were blank cells.

The worksheets are static, the names will not change, but the information on them varies in # rows but the # of columns depends on the page..

The use of this import is to upgrade the program, by importing the sheets from the old version.

The first part browses for the file, which is good, because it could be stored anywhere and named anything.. I have it set up to "Click to Import"....

Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()

GetValuesFromAClosedWorkbook "C:", "Book1.xls", _
"Personnel", "A:H"

End Sub

This next part does the importing, but it fills all the columns and rows that were blank with 0's and fills all the way down to 65536 thru my column H that I specified that had data above.

Sub GetValuesFromAClosedWorkbook(fPath As String, _
FName As String, sName, cellRange As String)

how this code can be modifed to do the following..

Detect and copy ONLY the used range of the closed workbook.

Moving Entire Row To Another Sheet When Column Shows Closed Value

Feb 22, 2014

As I am at work, it does not allow me to upload the file due to restrictions on uploading. However, the spreadsheet is fairly simple so should be able to describe it.

The main sheet is called "Investigation Court Apps". An entry is made into each row and the status shows as "Open" in Column A, until a final closure date is input in Column Z, at which point the entry in Column A changes to "Closed". This is achieved with the following IF statement in Column A.

=IF(B3="","",IF(ISNUMBER($Z3),"Closed","Open"))

So that part is all automated. What I need is some VBA coding or macro (might be same thing but completely new to all this) that when the value in Column A changes to "Closed" the whole row moves over to "Sheet3". Once the row has been moved over, I want to ensure there are no blank rows also.

I have tried the following amongst others:

Sub MoveToSheet3()
Dim C1 As Range
Dim RowNum As Integer
For Each C1 In Sheets("Investigations Court Apps").Range("N1:N" & Range("A65536").End(xlUp).Row)
If Cll = 0 Then

[Code]....

I know to open VBA its Alt+F11 and to close Alt+Q, but thats about it.

Excel 2013 :: Conditional Formatting - When Set B3 To Closed Nothing Happens

Aug 13, 2014

I have a row of data in Excel 2013 that is roughly as follows :

Cell A2 - Date || B2 - Status || C2 - Description || D2 - Estimate Time || E2 - Comments

Cell B2 is a pick list of statuses --> Open || In Progress || Closed

The conditional rule I want to create is one where if B2 = 'Closed', format the text of the entire row (cell A2 to E2) to turn light blue.

I was successful in doing this --> basically highlighted A2 to E2; conditional formatting; new rule; use formula; $B$2 = "Closed"; format text color blue.

When I do this, now when cell B2 = Closed, the line turns blue.

The issue is I want this condition to apply to row 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 etc ... basically a multi-row list.

I highlight the cells (A2 ~ E2) and then grab the bottom right corner of E2 and drag down 5 rows (creating row for A3 / A4 / A5 / A6 / A7).

The issue is when I set B3 to Closed, nothing happens; likewise for B4 or B5 etc ...

When I set B2 to Closed, it changes itself and all the rows below to light blue.

This used to work in earlier versions of Excel, but I can not see to get this working in 2013.

Updating All Cells In A Specified Range On Sheet Change.

How can I do that? Basically it could do a loop through all cells in the range and "F2+enter" but it seems to be a very "stupid" way to do it.
How can I update the cells in the range in a better way?

Updating OLE Linked Objects From Excel

Mar 6, 2012

I have 2 excel workbooks - each containing one table.I have 1 Powerpoint Prtesentation with OLE Links to the 2 tables.

All I want is for any update in the excel tables to show in the running PP Presentation. The annoying part is when I set up the linked objects, everything works perfectly and any changes in the excel files update real time in the PP presentation.

As soon as I close the excel file and reopen though, from thereon in I have to update the links manually.

Things I have tried:

A PP Add in called "Update Links" which updated the OLE links on every rotaion of the show. This would be a fine workaround if it didn't stop the slideshow if/whenever someone was updating one of the source files with the "file is already open..." message...So set both source files to shared as PP will only be reading the data anyway. Still the error appears.Inserting some code into PP:

Code:

Sub linkupdate() Dim osld As Slide Dim oshp As Shape For Each osld In ActivePresentation.Slides For Each oshp In osld.Shapes If oshp.Type = msoLinkedOLEObject Then oshp.LinkFormat.Update Next oshp Next osld End Sub

All I want to do is update the links without stopping the slideshow. I have tried numerous PP approaches, but maybe there is an Excel solution that will update links automatically on each save.

Updating Access Record Via Excel VBA

May 24, 2012

I currently use a function very similar to this one with a SELECT query to return a field to excel. I have modified this into an UPDATE query to update a field.

I am getting errors at this point:

Code:
If adoRS.BOF And adoRS.EOF Then
DBNoteUpdate = "Value not Found"
Else
DBNoteUpdate = "Action Confirmation"

I believe this area of code was to trap the error that occurs when the lookup field name was not found in the table. I left it in because I still want to trap if the record I am trying to update is not found in the table.

Here is the full code:

Code:
Public Function DBNoteUpdate(RecordNumber As String, _
UpdateTableName As String, _
UpdateNote As String) As Variant
Dim adoRS As ADODB.Recordset
If adoCN Is Nothing Then SetUpConnection

[code].....

The code does work, in that the record is being sucessfully updated by the SQL statement, but its erroring at the point I described above with the error:

Code:
Runtime Error '3704':
Operation is not allowed when the object is closed.

how 'adoRS' is closed at that point because the call to close is right at the end of the function?
