VBA To Update Cells With Data From Microsoft Access Table
Jun 30, 2009
I have a spreadsheet and an Access database that contain the same items and prices. The database and spreadsheet are on a server shared drive. I would like the spreadsheet to automatically update its list of items and prices from the Access database whenever the spreadsheet is opened. Right now, we update the item and price list on both the spreadsheet and the database but I want to just update the database and have the spreadsheet pull the updates from the database.
Using a pivot table, I'm linking to an external data source in ACCESS. I use the pivot table wizard, select the database (spend2008.mdb), and then ONE table that is not in a relationship/linked etc, its just a plain table, and then I get the error
"The Microsoft Office ACCESS database engine cannot find the input table or query "mdb.summary". Make sure it exists and that its name is spelled correctly".
This is new spreadsheet, so new join to the data. I'm selecting the table from the Query Wizard, so not possibility of a spelling mistake. I've been all through the database to make sure I haven't set a link or relationship. There are a total of 4 tables in in the DB that are related, but I've deleted the relationships
I have enable Refresh on Open for my excel pivot table, but user need to click "Enable Automatic Refresh" , only solution i came across is to change the registry setting. Which i dont have access to edit registry(admin disable the access).
Alternate solution i try to use Access macro to automate the process and use Outputto save it as a excel file A. Then use excel file B to update pivot table from excel file A.(as excel A data is always latest) The problem is i will get "....A file name already exist...do you want to overwrite.." prompt. Which defeat the automate process.
Any other solution to enable the automatic refresh on open the excel workbook?
Or Access can overwrite the exist file or save it as another file name with timestamp ?
I have a table i'm importing from access. I'm wondering if there's a way to split the table so that it imports into separate locations. The following shows what I'm trying to do.
This is the data table. You'll note that under FlatOrTrim, I have 2 choices.
I'd like the ones in flat to populate one portion of the worksheet, and the ones in Trim to populate a different part of the worksheet. Like so: (Not all the data matches up perfectly, ignore that)...
I have created a table in Excel 2010 (pls see attached table named post.xlsx).
Then copied the above table into PowerPoint 2010, using "paste link" (I tried to attach the PowerPoint file but the system says "invalid file type" and I cannot attach it).
Question:
I have received income data for another month - the new month is 13 and the corresponding new income is 100. I typed 13 and 100 into the Excel table post.xlsx and thus extended the table by another column.
Then I went back to PowerPoint slide, then right clicked on the table there, then clicked "update link".
Specific Question:
The newly-typed column in Excel table is not get updated in PowerPoint table.
I have created a userform in excel which I want to transfer data over to access with.
I have built a command button to send data to access code below.
Private Sub CommandButton2_Click() Dim cn As ADODB.Connection, rs As ADODB.Recordset Set cn = New ADODB.Connection cn.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & _ "Data Source=filepath.mdb" Set rs = New ADODB.Recordset rs.Open "Main", cn, adOpenKeyset, adLockOptimistic
rs.Close Set rs = Nothing cn.Close Set cn = Nothing
This works fine when all comboboxes and textboxes have entries in but doesn't work when the have been left blank and there will be occasions when they can be left blank.
I am not able to retrieve the date from Access table. Here is below code.. How to retrieve the data from ACCESS..
Dim adoCN As ADODB.Connection Dim strSQL As String Const DatabasePath As String = "U:workareaNew Projectdb1.mdb" 'Function argument descriptions 'LookupFieldName - the field you wish to search
I need to populate data from Access table to sheet1 using Excel/vba. I want to find out the percentage of batches scanned for the date selected for each time slot. There are Time slots in the columns from Q to X. i.e 8:00,9:00,10:00,11:00.....etc.
so I need to find out percentage of batches scanned before the above time slots.. To count total number of batches , we will use count(BatchNo) function in the SQL query. Because of company restrictions, I can't attach the access database but to give u an idea how the database is stored, I copied the data in sheet2 of the attached workbook. We have to find percentage of batches scanned in sheet1.
I put together a little table for one of my LAN based facilities to track their Overtime Savings as compared to each of their individual units. It works great.
What I would like to do is to export the data on a weekly basis to Access. I set up an access table to recieve the data and I can get it all to work just fine except I want the users to just click on a menu item and have the export take place in the background.
I know how to create on the fly menus and get them to accecpt commands from Excel Macros so that is not an issue.
I know how to share data in Excel from Workbook to workbook, closed or open. I'm sure it can be done Excel to Access I just can not for the life of me find anything to jumpstart me in the right direction in either application's help files. Anybody out there linking their Excel data to Access?
I am looking at a way to create a dsitributable excel spreadsheet (.xlsx), which contains non-sensitive, yet restrictied organisational information segmented by regional department for NCSA, EMEA for APAC respectively.
By design, all data has been collected in a datatable on a password protected "data" sheet - and - presented on an "executive summary" sheet. T
The "executive summary" sheet contains a privottable with select "multiple options" to allow for aggregated dataviews on executive level. However, on a regional department level, the users must only see their own regions, hence the filtering mechanims on the pivottable should be restricted.
Currently, the restrictions on the pivot tables are made in VBA, using the following script. However, it still allows people to change the "multiple options" filter in the pivot. How can I restrcit this option
Sub RestrictPivotTable() Dim pf As PivotField With ActiveSheet.PivotTables(1) .EnableWizard = False .EnableDrilldown = True .EnableFieldList = True .EnableFieldDialog = False .PivotCache.EnableRefresh = False For Each pf In .PageFields
[code].....
As a sidenote; the above design requires that a spreadsheet is compiled for each region each month. Ideally, the ability of filtering, could be password restricted - or - filteren. So only one selection would be presented for the NCSA, EMEA and APAC respectively, while Executives could view across one-or-many regions? However, as Pivot tables are used by design, I cannot see how this could efficiently be achieved?
For my project , I am using Excel as a frontend and Access as a backend. Now, I want to write the code in workbook_Open event that will copy data in Column L,M,N,O from Access table. The query should select data from Access table where Date=Todays Date. All the Queue Names and corresponding Queue Numbers are stored in Sheet2 of the attached workbook. In Access table , there are three fields named as Type,Type1,Type2 which make up Queue numbers.
In Sheet1 , There are Queue Names and we have to store Total Batches,Totl Envelopes, total Documents and total Pages for the corresponding Queue Names in Sheet1. SO for this we need to check the Queue Numbers of the Queue names in SHeet2 but in table Queue Numbers are equal to Type & Type1 & Type2.
I'm using a total of 20 Rows and 2 Columns. Each row has Column A for Description and Column B for Score. There are total 10 subjects with 10 noneditable rows, and 10 editable rows.
I'd like to protect column A and B for rows 1 to 10 and unprotect only Column B for rows 11 to 20. When any cells from Column B, rows 11 to 20 updates, I'd like to automatically sort columns A+B for ONLY rows 1 to 10.
Therefore, rows 1 to 10 need to be sorted based on the scores on Column B, and since rows 11 to 20 are just input fields, they are never to be sorted.
Column B for Rows 1-10 will be formulas and are based on Column B values from rows 11-20.
When a value in any of the rows 11-20 of Column B is updated, Range A1:B10 will automatically sort from highest score to lowest score (Column B).
Since Column B for rows 1 to 10 contains formulas and not actual values, would it throw off the order of things when sorting formulas?
the macro coding to perform this task.
Here is just a visual of what the spreadsheet will look like
Cell A10 is set up to autocomplete based on the cells above it. Cells B10 and C10 are set up to use VLOOKUP to gather information from the table above based on the name in A10. What I would like is for C10 to autopopulate with the information in the table which corresponds to the name entered in A10, which it already does. What I would like to do after that is be able to change the data displayed in C10, and have it update in the cell in column C which corresponds to the name entered in A10. What I'm trying to do is create a customer manager. The customer's names will be hidden, as well as all their information, but I want my sales guys to be able to pull up an individual customer's information, then enter notes on that customer (column C). Vlookup won't allow you to enter information, as changing information erases the vlookup formula in the cell. This is very difficult to explain without direct visuals. Is there any way to do this?
Please see attached the Workbook. I need to check the policy Numbers in Column A to be present in Access Table. If yes then write the corresponding ScanDate and BatchNo in columns I and J.
I have an Excel spreadsheet with a query to an Access table. The query pulls data from 2 columns in a table and pastes it to the spreadsheet. I am trying to update the VBA a little on one sheet and now I get the attached error whenever the code tries to run in Excel. Here is the code with the offending portion separated at the top.
I have a spreadsheet with 3 tables (all side-by-side). Table one has 8 rows of data; table two has 2 rows of data; table three has 3 rows of data. I am looking for assistance on how to sort each table in desceding order (by sales). Basically I want to do a sort everytime there is a change of values in any of the tables. I have attached a sample spreadsheet to clarify the table layout and the manner in which the values change within each table.
I am familiar how to perform the task of bringing in an access table into excel, then using a data validation filter to control the data set in Excel 2003.
I have a pivot table I am try to update. The table references another tab where my data sheet exists. If I add data to the datasheet how can I get my pivot table to recognize the additional information.
. Select all cells in the worksheet by clicking on the top left corner of the sheet.
. On the Format menu Click Cells.
. Click on the Protection tab.
. Uncheck the Locked and
Hidden check boxes, then click OK.
These four steps will make all cells in the worksheet unprotected and can therefor be modified. Next step is to protect the formula cells, and here is how we do it:
. Select all cells that have formulas.
. On the Format menu Click Cells.
. Click on the Protection tab.
. Check the Locked and Hidden check boxes, then click OK.
I have created several reports containing pivot charts with slicers, pivot tables and data sets. Total file size is around 5MB. Need to do an update in my pivot table Like adding an additional grouping on one of my dimensions. As soon as I start doing so the Microsoft Excel stopped working error message pops up and my file crashes! Removing existing groupings seems for some reason to be impossible as well: nothing happens when I do this. Ahow to solve this without having to rebuild all my reports?
I have a pivot table whose data source is located on a shared network drive. Each day a new data source is uploaded and the only thing that changes is the date in the filename (ie. DataSource080813.xlsx). I am trying to find a way to set the data source to update with todays date automatically each day so that when you open the workbook it is always current days data. I have a cell (B2) with a formula in it that gives me the file location of todays file (ie. X:TeamFolderFile1DataSource080813.xlsx, where the date is derived using the TODAY() function. Is there a way to set the pivot table data source to cell B2 and have it use the text from B2 as the file location?
I have entered all the formulas into my table (sheet 1) referenced to the source data but I want to upadate the source data regularly but when I delete sheet 2 all the formulas come up with #Ref error. how i can update my source data so my table automatically updates
I would like not to have to update the source data for the pivot table in my database. I've read that you can solve this by using a Dynamic Named Range and using that as the source for the pivot table. That way the pivot table will expand as new data is added to the database. The formula I used to create the DNR is:
In my work book there is 2 sheet, 1 (sfc)is data sheet where i puts all the data & second (size roll )is for a pivot table, now I am not able to make the update of the pivot table, I want to update the pivot table when ever i enter or edit any data of data sheet .
See the attached file , in sfc sheet Column W,X,Y,Z contain the data for pivot table on "size roll sheet "
I have a crosstab query in Access that groups by month and year. In Excel 2003, I have a query that pulls in the crosstab query.
At the time, I couldn't just pull in the Access table. For the other Access tables and queries, I could go to Data >> Import External Data >> Import Data >> select the database as a source >> select the table name.
However, to get the crosstab query, I had to go to Data >> Import External Data >> New Database Query >> MS Access Data Source* >> browse to my database >> select the crosstab query name >> select the data I wanted.
Since I wanted all the data, there did not seem to be a difference. But now that new dates are being added to the database, there *is* a problem. When I wrote the query, I only included the months available -- up to June 08. Now that there is data in July 08, that month exists as a heading in the crosstab, but Excel's query doesn't know to pull it! I have to manually edit the query to add the new month.
So my question is... is there a way to do this automatically? I have two crosstabs in five different spreadsheets, making a total of ten manual updates I have to remember to do each month.
I have a requirement there is a excel sheet that has multiple sheet with application names , cntact names , phone numbers & email address and this gets updated by me often. I need a code that can put the application names and email address alone into an access database and that should automatically get updated whenever changes are made in the excel sheet.
I have a worksheet that pulls data from an ODBC datasource (import, External Data). The datasource is a SQL server 2005 database.
the query's sql is complex enough that it says it cannot be represented graphicly.
part of the WHERE clause fro my query specifies a date range for one of the date fields.
I am wondering if from within the SQL query in Microsoft Query I can reference the value of a cell. that way i coudl have the user enter his date range values in two specific cells.
