Excel 2003 :: Ignoring Null Values When Plotting Bar Chart?
Jan 21, 2014
I have some data that I'm plotting on a bar chart and I'm trying to "HIDE" the columns with zero or null values. Basically, if the column is blank, I don't want a "gap" on the chart. I'm not getting this to work.
Using Excel 2003. I have a data range for a graph. The values in the cells are the results of a simple If function - If(m28>0,n28,0). The results are taken from a larger data input exercise. But, the graph line (a simple graph!) plots the FALSE value (0) when I would like there to really be no value & hence no plotted point if the result is FALSE.
Say I have a line graph pic in jpeg. Can I plot the critical points (by clicking) on the line graph plot, so as to be able to get the (x,y) data, and thus, have all the data points to be able to re-produce the charts in XLS?
Basically, in other words, I would like to reproduce the line graph in XLS.
Or has anyone developed this kind of application, or can anyone redirect me to the right direction?
I want to do almost exactly this, but when I assign null using "", and plot the result on a graph, the graph thinks that cell is populated with a 0. Let me try to be a bit clearer. I have a range of dates in Col A, and percentages in B and C, but my last 3 dates in Col A have empty cells in B. Cols B and C are separate series. The line graph is (correctly) plotting series C, and series B, whose line stops where there is no more data.
What I need to do now is replace those empty cells with a formula like the one above. Ie, IF(ISBLANK(x1),<null>, <formula>), but using IF(ISBLANK(x1),"", <formula>) doesn't make the line on my graph stop.
I'm using Windows XP with MS Excel 2003. I have a pivot table representing a survey. Let's say I've built the survey outside of excel and I've imported the response data into Excel. One of the questions in the survey is "ratings" and the possible valid responses for it is: "Excellent", "Good", or "Poor". In my data set in excel let's say I have 10 responses or rows and all the responses for the question on ratings are either "Excellent" or "Good". (There are no rows with a "Poor" value in the ratings column).
For example, let's say out of the 10 responses, 6 are "Excellent" and 4 are "Good". As such my Pivot chart shows two bars: one for the number of respones with "Excellent" (10) and another bar for the number of responses with "Good" (4). My delima is how to show a third bar showing "Poor" with a zero as the number of responses.
I need to calculate the average spend on a day of the week over the month, so all Monday's or all Tuesday's, etc. One sheet is one week so I need to average b16 on 6 sheets as an example.
I used =AVERAGE('WEEK1:WEEK6'!B18) to calculate average over the six Monday's. The issue is, as in other posts, how do I ignore the cells that have a zero or null value.
I've tried adjusting this which was in 1 post =AVERAGE(IF($C$2:$CA$2=C62,IF($C$25:$CA$25"",$C$25:$CA$25 with this =AVERAGE(IF(1+1=2,IF('WEEK1:WEEK6 '!B180,'WEEK1:WEEK6 '!B18))) which returns #REF!
this from another post =SUM('WEEK1:WEEK7 '!B18)/COUNTIF('WEEK1:WEEK7 '!B18,"0") which returns #VALUE!
and this =AVERAGE(IF('WEEK1:WEEK7 '!B180,'WEEK1:WEEK7 '!B18)) which returns #NAME?
The cells on each sheet are sum formulas for other cells on the sheet not just numbers on their own.
I'm trying to overlay a Gaussian distribution on some data. The data is a frequency of particle size diameters, ranging from 200-1000 um (see attached). I'm using Excel 2013.
I have a chart that shows up to a list of 28 people and the number of sales for that day. I'm try to make the chart only show the names and number of salesperson that are not = to null. This is what the chart has for values right now "=' Nest Average'!$C$6:$C$33". How can I make it so that it only shows those cells if not = to null.
I'm trying to craft a gradesheet for my son's teacher and I am runnning into a problem obtaining a students average. In one row I've listed the possible questions for all the tests whether the test has been taken or not. In the row below I've listed "questions answered correctly" for only the tests they've taken. I need a way to calculate the overall avergae of the student while ingoring columns with null values in the "questions answered correctly" row.
I know there is a way to ignore zeroes by excluding them with an IF statement but I didn't want to do that in case one of the students actually did get a zero. As the attached example shows the simple sum function renders a 25% average while the average should actually be 50%.
I need to plot various data on top of stock charts.
This data could be irregular in date: it could be weekly, or simply random.
To plot this data by itself requires a Scatter Chart.
From what I know so far, you CANNOT DO THIS.
However, I suspect this could be done if I build a Stock Chart from scratch using a Scatter Chart.
Error bars can be used to make the tails, however, I don't know how they built the body bar which has the characteristics of a bar (border, and interior.)
But since I don't really need those two characteristics, I just need a wider error bar line that is provided in the chart edit window. I'm guess through a macro, there are wider line widths assignable.
I have a spreadsheet created in Excel 2003 (which is what we use at work, unfortunately).
My employees periodically take a test to ensure they have certain items memorized (or are making progress to that end). The spreadsheet rows show all 46 of my employees, and their test scores. The columns are the dates that the tests are administered. I can create a line graph based on the chart data, and interpolate these data with no problems.
The problem is that there are 46 employees! 46 lines on the same graph make for a very cluttered, hard to understand visual. I want to simplify the view by "filtering out" some of the data.
I have an additional column in my spreadsheet for each employee's work area (Area 1, Area 2, etc), and another column with data based on first letter of last name (the values here could be "A-G", "H-M", "N-S" and "T-Z", for example). I figure i could filter my line graph based on these two columns. For example, somehow select just Area 1, and reduce the number of lines on the graph to 16. Or better yet, Choose "Area 2" AND "A-M" and end up with 7 employees (and therefore 7 lines on the graph).
Here's what i have tried:
1) Select the work area column, and use the Filter, which created a drop-down list at the column heading. When i use this drop-down list, i can easily filter the data in the worksheet by Work Area, but this is not reflected in the line graph, which still shows all 46 lines. The problem was that i forgot that i had set the Calculation Options to "Manual". Setting this to "Automatic" (or leaving it on Manual and pressing F9) solved the problem, as the chart now updates when i use the filters. Calculation options are under the "Formula" tab in 2007, or in Tools -> Options -> [either calculation or formula, i forget what it's called] in 2003.
2) Create several separate line graphs in several separate sheets. I wouldn't want to assign someone else the task of maintaining a spreadsheet of such inefficient design.

My requirement is i want to plot the values V1, V2, V3 and V4 from the given condition (A1 / A2 / A3 / A4) and the given date.
If the given date is not available then the formula should take the older date than it not next date. For example if the given date is 10-Mar-14 and the date is not available for the given condition then it should take the older / earlier dates like 09-Mar-14 or 08-Mar-14 like and it should not take 11-Mar-14, 12-Mar-14.
I am trying to conditionally format the top middle and bottom thirds of a range of data. Problem is, that the range needs to be flexible as sometimes there may be a maximum of 36 cells with data, but sometimes there may be less (so there are blank cells in the range that need not be counted). The methods I have tried always include the blank cells, and so it is not equally formatting the thirds (as it includes the blanks cells as part of the bottom data)....
Here are the 2 methods Ive tried so far using excel 2003) Top 34%: =IF(INT(COUNT($D$3:$D$38)*34%)>0,LARGE($D$3:$D$38,INT(COUNT($D$3:$D $38)*34%)),MAX( $D$3:$D$38))0,LARGE($D$3:$D$38,INT(COUNT($D$3:$D $38)*67%)),MAX( $D$3:$D$38))0,LARGE($D$3:$D$38,INT(COUNT($D$3:$D $38)*100%)),MAX( $D$3:$D$38))
I work in a call centre and I record my daily figures. My target is 82%, and I would like a bar chart in Excel 2003 to colour the chart according to wether I hit target or not. If my daily figure >=82% the bar should be green.
Using Excel 2010, I am trying to do a Sumproduct formula with two criteria, one of which needs to ignore text values.
Here is the set up:
Column AColumn BColumn C (Side)(Qty)(Price) Buy5,51215.67 Sell119,428null Buy24,20945.77 Sell20,05412.25 ...
I'm trying to find the sumproduct of Qty * Price if the side equals "Buy" (or "Sell") but ignoring the "null" value in column C. The formula I have is =SUMPRODUCT(--($A$2:$A$20="Buy")*IF(ISNUMBER($C$2:$C$20),--($B$2:$B$20*$C$2:$C$20)))
The result in the cell is 0, but if I open the Insert Function dialog box, I see the correct value being returned.
I have a set of data containing "N/A" in some cells, and when I try to plot the chart using stacked lines chart type, the chart is completely off. if the "N/A" are causing this problem and how to fix this.
I have 3 test scores for each student. Currently, I have 3 students.
For example :
John 95 90 85 Cindy 50 60 100 Dan 87 86 90
I have a chart that that plots 3 lines, one for each student.
However, I want the chart to dynamically update if there's another student. In other words, I would like the chart to add another series while the legend updates to include another student.
I am using the the stock chart and I would like there to be a horizontal line across the chart with a y-axis of the opening price. In the end I want this to be in VBA but how to do this manually I should be able to put it in loop of data that will produce many charts with a horizontal line starting at the day opening.
I have tried to add a new series to the chart but I'm using the Candle stick stock chart and the new series comes out as a vertical not horizontal line. I read about using a secondary horizontal axis but all the tutorials I find are in Excel 2003 and they donlt line up well with Excel 2007.
I found this link on charts with horizontal lines but again they are in 2003 and I'm using a candle stick stock chart not a scatter chart. [URL]
I have 3 different series: S, J, and D. Each series has a list of different dates, and I need to plot the results for each date, while comparing the 3 series. I have created 3 different charts to display the results for each series - list of dates. However, I'd really like to chart all 3 series on one chart, so that you can see how the 3 compare.
I believe my obstacle is that the list of dates are not consistent between the 3. I tried to get around this by creating one table with all the dates, and leaving blanks where necessary (on Sheet 2). However, this created a problem because the blanks showed on the charts as 0s.
I have the Lat and Long for each of several US cities. I want to use these to create a bubble chart that plots the cities and which I can place over a US map picture.
However, I have the problem that, because of the curvature of the earth, the city locations form the lat and longs are not tying with the map.
how to adjust the lat and longs so that they will correspond to the typical US map?
For example, the base lat and longs for Denver are 39.5742 and -104.8588. What formulas can I use to modify these to match the standard map projection?
I have mapped data from Sheet1 to Sheet2 and created graphs in Sheet2 using the data. but when I hide the rows in Sheet2 the Graph is being cleared off. Need a solution so as to display the Graph in Sheet2 while hiding the rows in the same sheet.
i am creaing a chart in excell but i have a problem. i would like to have a chart like this one http://shrani.si/?screenshotow31.jpg. but when i create my chart it looks like this http://shrani.si/?screenshotow2t.jpg. first chart is created with some macro so i dont know how is it working but i think the problem is in blank cells because if cell is blank the chart line will go to 0 but i dont whant that :s
I have a database where I would like to plot graphs from data of different periods and different series.
My current method is to go to the data set formulas and changing data range. The tricky part is that I might skip data series because I am selecting the series required for each chart.
How to do plot the different graphs efficiently and quickly.
