Multiple Matches In Array (one Or Two Criteria) And List Results
Sep 15, 2014
I have used INDEX/MATCH/ROW/SEARCH functions, in different permutations, but I am unable to get the result. The data set is something similar to the below:
I use it to go for work
I want to be able to do following (2 separate tasks):
Task 1 (if in A1 on a new sheet, I had Use, i want to list all the items in an adjacent column, skipping the blank rows)):
I use it to go for work
Task 2 (if i had Honda (A2) and North (B2), I want to have the colors listed in Column 3):
I know this can be done by an auto-filtering or manual sort, but I have work with thousands of similar data on a regular basis, and i want to find a formula that will allow me to list the items based on different criterion.
I am trying to set up a worksheet whereby two critera when matched from a drop down list will populate cell 'x' with a coressponding answer. if you have Destinations then a From and To column with various locations listed below, then in a thrid column you have an output cell which is kilometres. What formula can i use to match the various location 'to' and 'from''s with the correct kilometre match?
is it possible to have a cell return all matches from a list and have the list of matches reduce as you type, then be able to select one item from the list? this is a typical feature on internet sites, but can it be done in Excel?
I have two worksheets. The first contains a list of software (some having duplicate listings) in column A and a list of comments in column B. None of the software titles that have duplicates will have comments.
The second worksheet contains a condensed list of software (the previous list without the duplicates) and a column for the comments.
I need to have a formula that populates the second worksheet comments cells with the corresponding comments from worksheet one only if:
(1) The software title in worksheet two matches the software title in worksheet one (2) The comment cell in worksheet one contains a comment (or text)
I have had only partial success; my obstacle being the duplicate software titles in worksheet one.
Column A would be Recipe Numbers, Column B the Planned Total.
I want to search column A for all matching recipe numbers. Then, any recipes that match, look in column B for the planned totals, adding all incidents where they match.
Then the most difficult part, which just occured to me now. I only need the Total Planned Total and Recipe name reported once.
Recipe#..........Planned Total 450................100 600................75 620................125 450................50 620................180 450................100 600................200 450................110
I will not be able to sort these lists.
If-Match-Sum? to display: Recipe#............Total Planned Total 450....................360 600....................275 620....................305
I've researched for the first part... and it seems like Match will only find the first match and not look further? Am I wrong on this? How to display the results hadn't even occured to me yet, since I was still trying to figure out how to GET the result.
I was provided previously with the code for a VLOOKUPS function for a project of mine by JBeaucaire. It can be found here, in the returned file he provided to me: VLOOKUPS multiple results in a drop down list.
The set up works wonderfully. But now I'm trying to accomplish something that is just a little bit different. I'm trying to to populate an array with all the results returned from an HLOOKUP formula. I was wondering if anybody had any code written that might create an HLOOKUPS function. I've tried to tweak the code provided for the VLOOKUPS function by JBeaucaire but I'm a novice, novice programmer and can only pull off simple functions and procedures.
Worksheet 1: In column A I have a people's initials. In coumn B I have text boxes with miscellaneous text. (The same person could have multiple rows within this sheet.)
e.g. AAA blue BBB orange AAA round CCC smelly AAA elongated
Worksheet 2 I want to show: A2 = initials, B2 = first text box associated with that person, C2 = second text box (different row) associated with that person (if applicable), D2 = third text box (different row) associated with that person (if applicable), etc.
e.g. AAA blue round elongated BBB orange CCC smelly
What I need is a script or formula with returns multiple results and puts them into one cell.
The Excel is used as a Project Managment Work Sheet for Resources, working on different Projects and their dedicated hours
The raw data table looks like this: Column A: Project Name (=AllProjectsLists) Column E: Resource Name (=MasterDataResources) Column P: values from 0 to 8 (hours)
First I need to check per row the Resource Name. If the Resource Name is a match, than I need to check if in column P the value is bigger than 0. The result goes into a different sheet per row, one result per Resource, but the multiple results should be shown in one cell.
So the result should be something like:
Resource name "Thomas" .... Projects working on: "Project 1, Project 5, Project 13, ..." (in one cell) Resource name "Mary" .... Projects working on: "Project 3, Project 9, Project 13, ..." (in one cell)
I tried with this one, but it only returns one vale per cell:
In my spreadsheet, on the first worksheet called "Working". Column A, called "Results", contains carrot ^ delineated string values in each cell (i.e."john^apple^pear^banana^grape^love^heart^pickle"). The majority of string values in every cell in my "Results" column match a "source" column of Pick-List Values, called "Fruits" in the same spreadsheet, however found in a different worksheet called "Lists" (also in Column A). I want to perform 3 functions against my "Results" Column on worksheet "Working":
1.) Report In Column B: Analyze column "Results" by cell and return carrot delineated string values for only those that match my "Fruits" Pick-List
2.) Report In Column C: Analyze column "Results" by cell and return carrot delineated string values for only those do not match my "Fruits" Pick-List
3.) Report In Column D: Identify and return all unique values in "Column C" as a List.
Attached is a simple example of what I'm trying to accomplish called " Sorting.xls"
I have a spreadsheet schedule that pulls quantities from another spreadsheet's cells. if the part number of the reference row matches the schedule cell's part number (row), and the date of the reference cell row is 2 workdays after that of the schedule cell's column, the quantity is put in the right place in the schedule. that part works. the problem I have is that sometimes there is more than one quantity with the same part number and date (due to the parts belonging to different jobs). when this is the case, only one of the quantities is picked up by the schedule. i want the schedule cells to sum the quantities of the reference file with matching criteria. i also don't want to have to change the reference file at all in order to do this. below is the function that works (besides summing the duplicates). the part after the " " is what i would need to alter.
HXS is the reference file where D is the part number column, I is the date column, and 5 is the index column referencing the quantity.
C is the part number column in the schedule K is the date row in the schedule ....
On sheet "master" I have a list of goals in column A.
Each has been assigned to at least one person. Each person will have their own sheet that will capture the goals assigned to them. As an example, see Al's sheet.
I am trying to get Excel to look for all of the goals assigned to AL on the Master sheet and list them nicely onto AL's sheet without out blank rows. (and for each, respectively on their own sheet). I could do this with Pivot Tables if the data were displayed differently, but I have been told that I have to display the goal assignments as shown.
I could use "x"s instead of their names to mark the assignment and I could combine the "goal-achieved expectations" and "goal #s" columns if it helps. I am not supposed to use filters either.
Note: Of course, a goal or an assignment could change on the master sheet, but the assignment is more likely to change.
how this done for AL, I can go ahead and create the other sheets.
I need to look up a value from a worksheet using multiple criteria, and return MULTIPLE results.
I have a table with comments written by different people about specific items. I would like to be able to type in that item name and return all those comments. BUT - it's not JUST the item name, but also on a specific date or some other criterion.
Currently I have managed to do this successfully with a single criterion, as in this array formula:
I then copy that formula to a few more rows and I indeed get a list of different names (F1:F1001) which match my criterion "ABC". But - I have at least one more, or even two more criteria. I've tried a whole lot of different things and I just get errors.
Has anyone tried something like this? If you have - how should I modify the above formula to allow for additional criteria? For example, not only A1:A1001 equal to "ABC," but also B1:B1001 equal to "XYZ", and so on.
I need to start a list in cell a8 on sheet1. I need it to find and list multiple results vertically. It will lookup what is in cell a1 on sheet1. The table of info is on sheet2 from a1 to b44. Column a on sheet2 has the values of what is in column a on sheet1 and column b is what I need returned to the cell with the formula.
I am using the VLOOKUP function to pull multiple columns of information from another sheet in the same workbook based on a name. The sheet it is pulling from is a query. I am looking up product names, and in the query there may be multiple results that the function can find.
VLOOKUP only returns the first result that is found. What I am trying to do is get it to dump all the results into a drop down list in one cell. If I attach a drop down to one of the columns of information I am retrieving, then I can select which of the entrys to display, right? I think this should work I just don't know how to go about setting it up to do it.
How would I set up a VLOOKUP formula that attaches a drop down list containing all the results that the function finds?
I would like to perform a search on only the worksheets listed in a worksheet titled table of contents. I would like to use multiple criteria for this search and send only the unique results to a worksheet titled results. Each worksheet listed in the table of contents has a cell address for each heading that I would like to extract data from the same column. The attached workbook example shows the data that I would like to collect when I search for cells that begin with "AB" and cells that begin with "CD". I collected this data by copy and pasting all the data from each worksheet into the results page and then applying filters and advanced filter to remove duplicates. This method does not work well for the original workbook as the data is quite extensive.
I've been trying to sum up invoices for specific contract lines while also taking into account if the invoice was deleted. There is a deleted column in which a "Y" is entered into the corresponding row meaning this invoice should no longer be accounted for.
I've been able to sum up the invoices per contract item just fine but I can't seem to get excel to account for the deleted column. I've attached a sample workbook which has dynamic named ranges already defined, the current array formula I'm using to sum up invoices and a pivot table that shows what the correct invoice amounts should be.
In the attached sheet, I need to find all items in column D that start with "LAB". For those items, Multiply the corresponding values from column B x column E and return the sum of all to cell T1. Once the total is in cell T1, I need to then delete the values in column E for those items (or change them to zero). I dont even know where to start with this.
I have a large amount of data, 40,000+ rows about how students do in remedial classes including from whom they took the classes. I have pulled from it a subset of student success as relates to the separate instructors. Now I would like to extract a consolidated list of those instructors for whom the student gain on criterion based pre and post course assessments is above a specific level. I have no trouble writing if statements that will look at two types of data, the course taken and the average student increase to determine which instructors meet or surpass the criterion, but I can only do that within a list that includes all the instructors. Because there are more than an hundred such instructors, it would be easier for the dean if I could provide a short list of those that meet specific criteria. I believe that it would be an array that I should use, but I have been fooling around with this for 2 days now, and am finding myself at a series of deadends!
I wanted to create a multiple drop down lists (using data validation) in column B (50 in all, every 3rd line) whereby, multiple, comma deliminated, results would display in each of the cells - for use elsewhere in the spreadsheet.
I found some code (as follows) which worked perfectly for me
VB: Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) Dim rngDV As Range Dim oldVal As String
As I mentioned above, I don't really understand the code and all I know is that the line about halfway down "If Target.Column = 2 Then" is defining which column (B) this will work in.
The problem I am having is that I need to protect the worksheet and the moment I "protect" the worksheet, the functionality of displaying multiple values goes away and the drop-down list reverts to only displaying one of the available values.
I am looking for a formula that averages the numbers in an array if they match the row and column text-based criteria. Based on another thread, I found and edited the following formula. However, it is giving me incorrect numbers.
