Separating A Range Of Values Into Equal Sum Groups?
Feb 27, 2014
Is it possible to separate a range of cells with numerical values into "n" groups that have equal (or as close to equal as possible) total sums?
Ex. The range A1:A30 includes 30 random numbers between 1 and 12 (obviously there are duplicates). I need excel to auto-generate 6 groups of 5 cells each with each group having the same (again, as close as possible) total sum. Preferably, I'd like the numbers in each group to be similar from top to bottom, but I'm not overly concerned about that.
I am working on this project for work that is pretty large (about 13500 rows) that is filled with items that I currently have sorted alphebetically. What I need to do is if there is a group of cells that have the same code, I need to insert a row at the very end of that group and autosum the quantity. It is becoming very time consuming doing it all by hand so I am trying to find out: is there a function that will automatically insert a row after each group of codes?
I am trying to separate a huge group of phone numbers from one cell into individual cells in a column. the numbers are currently separated by a semicolon. Is there an easy way to perform this action?
I want to delete the rows containing a subtotal of zero and the rows above it related to that grouping.
PO numbers are assigned to the data so the grouping is on the PO number column. The subtotal numbers are two columns over.
The workbook is close to excel's row limit so I want to eliminate the PO rows that have zeroed out. So, the row with the value of zero and the rows with the same PO number.
I have a list of 600 figures (this may vary) but i need a formula that will look a one particular figure in this list and return if it is one of 5 equal groups. e.g in this example the lowest 125 figures in numeric order would be in group 1 up to the highest 125 figures would be in group 5.
I realise if I limit it to 4 groups then i could use the 'quartile' functions but i am stuck with 5 groups.
I have a simple sumif formula that says =SUMIF(W61:W112,"<30",J61:J112). In column W, there are values ranging from 0 to 5000. If the formula is written like it is above, it excludes summing values from column J when the cell in column W equals 0. Why is this? I can just add another function that says sumif "=0", but I don't think I should have to.
I'm having trouble with a small vba macro. At the end of the macro I test to see if two variables are equal and then print out true or false. However, for some reason even though the variables are equal vba is not treating them that way. I have put the values that represent the variables on a spreadsheet and used the if(x1=x2) formula and it says it is true, also, when I debug the macro and watch the values when it comes to test the logical expression the numbers are the same. I don't understand why vba does not say that the two variables are equal. I have attached a screenshot of the breakpoint where I double check the values are equal.
I need to separate multiple values separated by comma in a single cell into individual rows. However, I also need that the data in the adjacent columns of the original cell also to be repeated in the new rows. The problem is illustrated in the attached file.
that the table is just a sample and most of the tables I work with contain at least 15,000 rows,
I am trying to develope a search macro to go through sheets of a book looking for strings separated by comas in an Inputbox. For example, The data in the inputbox may be inputed as: ahu-1,vav1,erv-2,etc(Number of items may vary). Then to assign variables(range) to each in order to use the "Find" function.
I need to separate out some rows by date into new worksheets, but I need the dates to be a range. Our cycles are separated into periods, which last about 1 month, so I need one new worksheet for each period. I was thinking about having like a cover sheet that defines the exact dates (like column A has the period title "P1, P2, P3,..." and column B has the start date and column C has the end date).
Then on the next sheet is where I would keep my Input data. So I need to separate the rows of the input data sheet out by the periods. The date for each data entry is kept in column M. I have attached a sample workbook explaining what I tried to describe above.
One aspect of my Excel-based project involves comparing the operator-entered part number (in Excel) to a predetermined list of part numbers in one column of an Access database table. Right now, my program is telling me that every part number entered in the spreadsheet (50+) does not match any part number in the database, which I've verified to be incorrect. I've checked that both the spreadsheet part number and the database part number are of the string datatype.
To the best of my knowledge, my looping logic seems valid and robust. To the best of my knowledge, there are no hidden characters in either the database cells or in the spreadsheet cells causing this apparent mismatch. I'm completely stumped at this point as to why my program doesn't detect any matches between the spreadsheet and the database table. Below is the Sub containing the code for checking that the part numbers match:

This issue seems to be a hybrid issue between Excel and Access with (to me) more of the issue on the Access end.
I have a spreadsheet containing Date, Description and Value in a three column setup. I wish to generate one summary for each unique description, based on a table of types. I can then say that for instance "Apple", "Oranges", "Lemon" are all part of a "Fruit" group.
The lookup would then find every row containing words in this group and summarize the values for them all.
Trying to find the sum of all cells in the array described in the formula that are equal to the values inside the quotations. I used this exact (as far as I can tell) formula to find the sum of values that were NOT equal to my quoted values and it worked just fine. Any ideas why formula 'A' will not work but formula 'B' does work? I have a feeling I'm missing something simple here!
Formula A - Does not work: =SUMPRODUCT(--('Master Lead Sheet'!$J$2:$J$10000=$B2),--('Master Lead Sheet'!$N$2:$N$10000="REJECTED"),--('Master Lead Sheet'!$N$2:$N$10000="CONDITIONED"),--('Master Lead Sheet'!$N$2:$N$10000="APPROVED"))
Formla B - Works: =SUMPRODUCT(--('Master Lead Sheet'!$J$2:$J$10000=$B2),--('Master Lead Sheet'!$N$2:$N$10000"No Answer"),--('Master Lead Sheet'!$N$2:$N$10000"Disconnected"),--('Master Lead Sheet'!$N$2:$N$10000"Wrong Number"),--('Master Lead Sheet'!$N$2:$N$10000"EMAILED"),--('Master Lead Sheet'!$N$2:$N$10000"needs to be emailed"),--('Master Lead Sheet'!$N$2:$N$10000"Refund"),--('Master Lead Sheet'!$N$2:$N$10000"REFUNDED"))
I am trying to improve a spreadsheet that I have to use everyday. I have a list with varying number of entries (different length every day) that has a number of columns including a column that contains machine codes (say 1,2,3,4,5...).
Each machine is programmed by a different person (say Andy,Ben,Craig,etc.).
One programmer can program more than one machine so for instance Andy is interested in programs for machines 1,3,5 and Ben in machines 2 and 4.
Every day we send a list of jobs that require programming which is pre-filtered for each programmer so if I send the list to Andy he only sees rows of data with machine codes 1,3 and 5.
I am trying to make a drop-down where I pick the programmer's name and the list automatically gets filtered for the machines for that specific person (e.g. 1,3,5).
I believe this could be done with advanced filtering but the problem is that the list length changes every day and the data is pasted into the spreadsheet from a different CSV file so I cannot define a set range for advanced filtering because it does not accept blank rows...
I have a file with immunophenotypic markers and their relationship to certain blood cells.
What I need to do is search the list and pull out the groups of defining markers for each blood cell. Some of the cells have many markers, some only have one but I need to find which combinations of markers identify each cell if possible.
I have these kind of matrices (below) and I'd like to identify unique values specific to different groups of columns:
[Code] .........
For instance, in the example above, if we decide that A, B, C are "Group 1" and D, E, F are "Group 2", and that the values in rows 1, 2, 3 are independent (i.e., "x" in "1" is not comparable to "x" in "2", etc): - In condition (row) 1: "x" is a specific value only found in Group 1 - In condition 1: "y" is a specific value only found in Group 2 - In condition 2: "x" is a value found in majority in Group 1 - In condition 3: no specific value can be associated to Group 1 or 2.
What I would like to get is a measure of whether: (1) there are values over-represented in one of the groups, or 100% specific to one group. (2) what are these values (3) if multiple values are a bit tricky, then: what is the value which is the most over-represented in one group compared to the other (the maximum being 100% in one group and 0% in the other)
Is it possible to use the Combobox ListFillRange to list values from two groups of cells? For example, in column 'A', I have the values, 1,2,3; and in Column 'B', I have the values, A, B, C. I want to list the values in column 'A' along with the value of say, B, in Column 'B'.
combobox.listfillrange = "Sheet1!A1:A3" < ---- how to include value B from column B in this list? Or, how to get value A from column B?
I have a spreadsheet which uses dynamic ranges to produce graphs for individuals which are selected using a scroll box. I can't figure out how to print multiple graphs at a time without selecting each individuals name and then printing the page which is time consuming, also it would be great if I could somehow get the individuals name highlighted in the list so whenthe page is printed you can see who's data it is.
I have a workbook with data in it that I want to copy and put in another wookbook. The data looks like this.
D11/22'2005 CX T-7.80 PEl Azabache LDining Out (blank cell) D11/22'2005 CX T-9.50 PAce Hardware LHousehold (blank cell)
What I want is a macro to copy that data until it finds a blank cell and paste/transpose that data in another workbook and then get the next set of data until an other blank cell.
It should look like this when done.
D11/22'2005CXT-7.80PEl AzabacheLDining Out D11/22'2005CXT-9.50PAce HardwareLHousehold
I've created the following function that chooses the maximum value from a set of cells then inserts theappropriate row number (within a table) into a new cell.
It's working fine until I have 2 cells with the highest value. The above statement is entering the first cell that meets the criteria in the new cell but ignores the fact there maybe 2 (or more) of the same value.
How can I get both (or all) to be entered in the same cell? Is there a better way, maybe highlighting all the rows in the table that equal the max figure?
I want to count the number of groups of 3 adjacent cells in a horizontal range (C5:EV5) in which any cell in the group of 3 has a value in it (as opposed to all the cells being blank or containing "0"). For example, if any or all of the cells in C5:E5 have a value in it, it would count as 1, and if any of the cells in the group F5:H5 have a value, it would also count as 1, and so on. Is there a way to use COUNTIF for this?
How do I divide a range (number of rows will vary) into groups for calculation purposes?
I have a spreadsheet with too many dependencies to calculate properly (over 400,000). After I calculate I can delete the empty rows, and then there will only be a few hundred rows left and it will calculate just fine.
I think all I need is a loop that will break the range into groups and calculate the groups separately, but I'm very bad at loops.
This is what I need to break into workable parts.
Sub FilterTrue() ActiveSheet.Calculate Range(Range("AC16"), Range("AC16").End(xlDown)).Select Selection.AutoFilter Field:=1, Criteria1:="TRUE" Selection.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeVisible).EntireRow.Delete Selection.AutoFilter End Sub
I have a spreadsheet that has a number of values and a separate sheet that has a paid total. What would be the easiest way to find the values in sheet 1 that total the sum in sheet 2? There may be more than one possible solution as to the items that total the sum.
am currently setting up a fantasy football league.
i have set up the league, with team name overall points and position, my problem is that when 2 teams have the same points one team is omitted and the other team has its name on both entries
the formula's i am using are
vlookup = to find the name of team for the points large = to find out points of each team
