Sumproduct And Dividing With Blank Rows
Apr 9, 2009
I am trying to divide a range that has blanks in. The range is the result of a webquery and taking the blanks out would be time consuming at best.
Conveniently (potentially) the blank row is every other row in the range.

I've got the following sumproduct formula (which seems to work):
=SUMPRODUCT(--(ISNUMBER(SEARCH($B17,Product_Keywords))),--(YEAR(Invoice_Date)=H$3),--(ROUNDUP(MONTH(Invoice_Date)/3,0)=H$4),--(Invoiced_Amount))
B17 is a keyword to be found in the Product_Keywords range
I'd like to modify it so that:
ifthe cell in the range Product_Keywords also includes "," thendivide the sumproduct by the number of commas+1
Presumably I could add --(ISNUMBER(SEARCH(",",Product_Keywords) as one of the conditions,
but how would I keep track of the number of commas in the cell?

I'm trying to craft a gradesheet for my son's teacher and I am runnning into a problem obtaining a students average. In one row I've listed the possible questions for all the tests whether the test has been taken or not. In the row below I've listed "questions answered correctly" for only the tests they've taken. I need a way to calculate the overall avergae of the student while ingoring columns with null values in the "questions answered correctly" row.
I know there is a way to ignore zeroes by excluding them with an IF statement but I didn't want to do that in case one of the students actually did get a zero. As the attached example shows the simple sum function renders a 25% average while the average should actually be 50%.

I have the following sumproduct formula which looks in one column to search for a series of dates (greater than one date and less than another date). It then looks in column O to see if there are certain criteria if the date criteria is met. The problem is I have a lot of blank cells in column O which need to be captured.
I have this:
=SUMPRODUCT(--('Raw Data'!$B$2:$B$50000>=$H$2+0)*('Raw Data'!$B$2:$B$50000

=SUM((DATA!$F$2:$F$3000=A3)*(DATA!$N$2:$N$3000="N")*DATA!$J$2:$J$3000)
This formula doesnt work but =SUM((DATA!$F$2:$F$25=A3)* DATA!$N$2:$N$25="N")*DATA!$J$2:$J$25) works. Thats because all the other cells higher than 25 have a reference to another cell. How to solve it? Maybe with SUMPRODUCT / ISBLANK? See attached file.

I have set up a formula to count the occurrences of multiple conditions in a table of data (see below..) the formula reads from 4 cells of criteria but I will not always use the 4 criteria and maybe only need to use say 2 criteria - when I do this my formula doesn't work - my example below shows this... How do I make the formula continue to work when some criteria cells don't have any entries?
This table is a simple example but my main work will have a much larger table (poss. several thousand rows) and probably about 10 criteria cells, so running a big formula with 10 nested IF statements will be too cumbersome... any smart workround for this within the SUMPRODUCT formula?
The top left cell (Fruit) is A1..
FruitColoursTownsNamesApplesRedLondonHarryApplesGreenParisBertPearsBlueLondonFred
PlumsRedVeniceSteveApplesRedLondonBertCriteriaResultFruitPears0ColoursTownsLondonNamesFred
FruitColoursTownsNamesApplesRedLondonHarryApplesGreenParisBertPearsBlueLondonFred
PlumsRedVeniceSteveApplesRedLondonBertCriteriaResultFruitPears0ColoursTownsLondonNamesFred
The formula currently in my Result cell is
=SUMPRODUCT((A2:A6=B10)*(B2:B6=B11)*(C2:C6=B12)*(D2:D6=B13))
which returns 0 and should be 1 in this example...

I have a code which will delete all rows where the value in column C is blank. However my formula is column C is the following:
=SUMPRODUCT(--(ENERGY!$B$5:$B$147=B15),--(ENERGY!$E$5:$E$147=A15),ENERGY!$C$5:$C$147)
Is there a way to change this formula so that if a value is not returned, I get a blank cell?

I've written a sumproduct formula, which does what I want it to do; but it returns a zero in false condition, instead of a blank. I've tried several things, but don't seem to be progressing very far. Here's the formula that I ended up with.

I can count the blank cells withiin a range using
=COUNTBLANK(C6:AD2506)
But I dont want it to count the cells if the entire row, within that cell, i.e. C6:AD6, is blank.
It should only count the blank cells within a row if there has been some data entered on that row..provided it has been entered within the specified range.

I have what I thought was going to be a simple function to create and, after a week of getting more error messages than I've had in a year, I'm ready to throw in the towel. Situation: There are two worksheets in the same workbook [Excel 2003]. One is for "Posting" details about technicians and their work orders. The other is a "Report" that summarizes the number of workorders open, closed, etc.
In the "Posting" sheet, I have created dynamic name ranges for two columns: Technician (4-digit text field) and InDate (date field that, if blank, means that the technician has not closed this work order. My ranges are set up like this:
Technician=OFFSET(Posting!$B$2,0,0,COUNT(Posting!$B:$B),1)
InDate=OFFSET(Posting!$D$2,0,0,COUNT(Posting!$D:$D),1)
So all I need to do is to total all the blank InDates for each Technician by employee number. I've tried COUNT to SUMPRODUCT. A co-worker got it to work with using...=SUMPRODUCT((ISBLANK(Posting!$D$2:$D$65307))*(Posting!$B$2:$B$65307=4288))
His solution was to list almost every available cell in each column. I just can't help but think that the dynamic name range should be able to work but I can't get it right. I think I'll choke if I get one more "N/A" or "VALUE! error.

I am using Excel 2010 and I am trying to average the amount of days in a month to a daily average per person in my worksheet.
Total sales per person
A5 = 10 - This is the Grand total per person for column A
A6 =4
A7=6
Daily average per person
C5=2.6 - Average for all persons here
C6=2.0
C7=3.0
The formula I am using is:
=(SUMPRODUCT($A$6:$A$15,C6:C15))/$A5
Which gives me an answer of 2.6 in cell C5 as shown above which is what I am wanting.
Please note that my cell range for my staff goes from 6-15 for both Column A and C where the other cells are blank in both columns.
My question is, If I was to clear all the data in both Columns A6:A15 and C:6:C15, cell C5 would return to a #VALUE. How to I change the formula so that if the cells were Blank, cell C5 would also be blank until I enter data for each person again?

I tried the following
=SUMPRODUCT((D1:D3<>0)*C1:C3,1/(D1:D3))

I’m using sumproduct to count the occurrences in a column based on 2 criteria. The formula is:
=SUMPRODUCT((D6='[BillPaymentTransactions.xls]2+ per Day'!$F$2:$F$4144)*('Exception Region V2'!$G$6='[BillPaymentTransactions.xls]2+ per Day'!$B$2:$B$4144)*('[BillPaymentTransactions.xls]2+ per Day'!$L$2:$L$4144>0))
The formula works when the array is less than about 3150 rows but goes into error when I use 4144 row range.
I am doing something dumb or does Excel not handle more than 3150 rows for the sumproduct function?

I've not used SUMPRODUCT previously and can't understand how to get results for the attached.
I've tried SUMIFS but it doesn't work because I'm looking down columns and across rows, I'm assuming.
I've attached a summary of what I'm trying to achieve. I want to sum all costs with an R,P,I,G, etc. in column C for December '13 (E3) in the top table.
The second table is actually in a different sheet but is the source of the data I need added.

I am working in the attached spreadsheet. For anyone who does not wish to open the link, let's say these sheets are titled 'Sheet1' and 'Sheet2'.
Sheet2 looks like this:
Year Cat Name
2013 4 Sal
2013 4 Pat
2013 3 Pat
[Code]....
Now, how may I pull this data into a summary sheet (Sheet1) that skips over any instances where column A ("Year") is blank so it looks like this:
Year Cat Name
2013 4 Sal
2013 4 Pat
2013 3 Pat
2013 2 Pat
2013 5 Bob
[Code]...
Note: All columns are the EXACT same across each sheet(including Sheet1, Sheet2, Sheet3), if that extra piece of information works.
PS It is fine if, in order for a formula to work, I need to copy and paste the formula for the length of rows per each Sheet to consolidate.
EDIT:
So, in my industry, any summary-level data (shown on Sheet1) must have a linked reference to a particular sheet (Sheet2, Sheet3, etc.) so the user knows where the raw data came from. This is to ensure increased accuracy of data and minimize human error (like, if for example, I accidentally didn't copy and paste all the rows correctly).
I have uploaded the actual sheet to show what the data actually look like. I am trying to pull in 2013 data into my "Summary Page" and would like to have all the data linked to the '2013' sheet but skip any blank rows.
Here is my failed formula:
=INDEX('2013'!F$3:F$338,SMALL(IF('2013'!$E$3:$E$338<>"",ROW('2013'!$E$2:$E$338)-ROW('2013'!$E$2:$E$338)+1,ROWS(B$1:B1)),""))

I have been using this macro to separate lots of rows with a certain amount of blank rows.
Example:
Code:
Sub test()
Dim j As Long, r As Range
j = InputBox("type the number of rows to be insered")
Set r = Range("A2")
[Code] .......
I trying to change it so that, instead of inserting how ever many blank rows, it just copys the row above.
Example (Row A to C)
I have been messing around with macro recorder and i could select each row and paste it into the blank rows, but from researching on the internet selecting and pasting data seems to be a waste of resources (ram?) and i will be running this on a couple hundred rows (lots of data). Also, i would like to keep the functionality so that i can still choose how many times it copys/inserts each individual row from a input box.
I eventually want the data to end up like it is shown in the table but i am takin it one step at time because i want to understand what the code is doing.

i have this code which inserts blank rows in alternate rows,
Code:
Sub insertrow()
' insertrow Macro
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
Dim count As Integer
Dim X As Integer
For count = 1 To 20
If activecell.Value "" Then
activecell.Offset(1, 0).Select
[code].....
what changes should i make in this code to insert rows only when ther are now blank rows. So first time i run, blank rows are already there, and when i update some data at the bottom and re-run it inserts blank rows again.

I have this in Column A, with about 120 entries:
Company 1
Contact 1
Address 1
City, ST, ZIP 1
Phone 1
Fax 1
Company 2
Contact 2
Address 2
City, ST, ZIP 2
Phone 2
Fax 2
Company 3
Contact 3
Address 3
City, ST, ZIP 3
Phone 3
Fax 3
I want this:
Company 1 Address 1 City, ST, ZIP 1 Phone 1 Fax 1
Company 2 Address 2 City, ST, ZIP 2 Phone 2 Fax 2
Company 3 Address 3 City, ST, ZIP 3 Phone 3 Fax 3
all the way down.
I can't figure out how to record the macro to tell it to then skip the blank line, collect the next set of data, and put it in the next row. I can do it for two, but then it just replaces the first two with the next two and I lose data.

MsgBox lastrow
With Sheet1
For t = 1 To lastrow
If Cells(t, 1) = "" Then
Rows(t).Delete
End If

End Sub
Although it is working , it is not deleting all the blank rows at once, I have to keep pressing on the macro button running the macro several times, until all blank rows are completely deleted.

I have a worksheet used for inventory. In Column A is the quantity (to be entered manually). In Column B is the product description. In Column C is the price of the product, and Column D the total price (column C price x the quantity entered in Column A). At the bottom of the worksheet is a grand total. Also, Column B (products) is grouped into subheadings by the supplier each product came from (for example, row 6 has the title PPG, and then rows 7-137 list every product from PPG).
The calculations in this worksheet work fine. What I am trying to do is, using a macro once all of the appropriate quantities are entered in column A, automatically hide every row of product that does not have a quantity. The tricky part is, if no products under a given supplier subheader are entered, the subheader also hides, and if a quantity is entered, that subheader shows. For example, if I have no quantities under any products for PPG, then the PPG subheader hides, but if just one quantity is added, PPG shows. Also, this list will be constantly updated, new products will be put in and taken out all of the time, so I cannot base the macro on a specific number of rows.

I have an imported report in a spreadsheet. It imports to three columns. I need to check each row in column A for three seperate criteria and delete the rows I don't need. I need to delete blank rows and check next row for page header info. Delete these and next rows to next blank cell. Check next row for page header and not delete if not page header. Several rows down will be a cell with 23 blank spaces before the word Reg: and sometimes other words past this but always this first. This row is to be kept. I looked at the FAQ's example of Deleting but I don't think it will work. I also need to put a key word in column A at a point where I want to stop. This report is a couple thousand rows long so a VBA procedure would really save time. I have a procedure I use to check for two zero's in two cells that hide these rows but I couldn't modify it to work on this report.
