Sort By Date Keeping Duplicate Data In Column A Together
Feb 26, 2014
I need to sort my data by the oldest date first in colum L (NEED_DATE), but I need to keep the rows grouped by colum A (Material No). See example of data.

I have a column with dates and times, and an associated column with data for all the dates and times. I want to add every hour of every day to the date/time column, but want the data associated with the times to stay in the row next to the correct time. How would I do this? In the attached file, i want to make coulmns A and B look like Coulnds E and F. I have hundreds (if not thousands) of rows, so i need a way to do this easily. Also, the times are not all evenly spaced or exactly on the hour. I dont need the times to be exactly on the hour or spaced out evenly, but i would like to have at least one time from every hour.
I need to merge rows with duplicate values in column A (Patient Name being the most important one), with columns B, C, & D usually having different isolated values as well. Columns E, F, G, H, & I are date columns, but the data is always going to be the number 1, meaning a patient was seen once that day (if they were seen two times that day for different reasons, information would be in an unmerged second row [same patient name listed in two separate rows], where columns B & C would be different). Column J is an autosum of columns E through I if that makes a difference. Column K is a notes column. The data that needs to be merged is always added to the bottom of the spreadsheet in order to show that a patient was seen on any given day, with columns B through K almost always being blank. Example:
Alice Alpha--------AB----------PT-------1---------------------------------------------0-------------blah Boris Beta---------BC----------SELF----2----------------------------------------------0------------blahblah Carl Carlisle-------CD---------PTA------3----------------------------------------------0 Carl Carlisle-------AB---------SELF-----2----------------------------------------------0 Donny Delta-------DE---------PT--------1---------------------------------------------0 Ernie Elephant-----EF---------PTA-------2---------------------------------------------0 Alice Alpha-----------------------------------------------1 Carl Carlisle--------------------------------------1--------------1---------------1 Ernie Elephant-------------------------------------------1---------------1
Alice Alpha--------AB----------PT-------1---------------1-----------------------------1-------------blah Boris Beta---------BC----------SELF----2----------------------------------------------0------------blahblah Carl Carlisle-------CD---------PTA------3-------1--------------1---------------1------3 Carl Carlisle-------AB---------SELF-----2----------------------------------------------0 Donny Delta-------DE---------PT--------1---------------------------------------------0 Ernie Elephant-----EF---------PTA-------2--------------1---------------1-------------2
In this example Carl Carlisle is being seen for two different things, however how would it be written so the macro would know which Carl Carlisle row to merge with? I'm thinking that before running the macro I could manually enter the information into column B so it knows which Carl Carlisle row above to merge with.
Data always starts at row 14 (row 13 is frozen pane header column), and extends to a row that is different every week depending on how many people happen to be in the list.
I found something from this link that looks very similar to what I need, but with no knowledge of coding, I have no idea how it should be tweaked: Merge Duplicate Rows Keeping Data In Same Columns
I know I'm asking a lot, but the amount of time this takes to manually go through hundreds of rows of patient names every week is incredibly time consuming, and I have too many other things to stay on top of at work for this to drag me down day in and day out.
After sorting and filtering rows with in a set range I will have several rows that are almost duplicates. This is normal and expected due to how the workbook is used. Among these rows also will be several single rows that are not duplicates. It is important that I combine any two duplicates into one row. Example:
CREATE TABLES LIKE BELOW? ABC D E F G H I J K
1 NameA 0XX15930777PS101300PS9
2 NameA0XX15930777PS91200PS10
3 NameX1159XXP555FBX1545PS9
4 NameB0A1234P123PS101263PS9
5 NameB1A1234P123PS90512PS10
What I need is this end result:
CREATE TABLES LIKE BELOW? ABC D E F G H I J K
1 NameA 0XX15930777PS91200PS10PS101300PS9
2 NameX1159XXP555FBX1545PS9
3 NameB1A1234P123PS90512PS10PS101263PS9
Its important that the data in each column stay with in that same column. Also of course it needs to be on the same row with the same person (NameA and NameB). The Columns that would determine if its a duplicate are D and E . I would need this to be preformed via macro or some easy way so that others will not have a hard time. It will be on a protected Shared Workbook with Excel 2003. I've enclosed a Sample. How can I sort these or accomplish this and maintain the data where it needs to be?
I have an excel spread sheet with several rows of 265 (9A-IV) columns each with a heading. I would like to transpose the worksheet columns so that the heading is placed in Column A against the corresponding that is placed in column B. For example
I have an excel spreadsheet with approximately 10000 rows. There are approximately 10 columns...
Column A - person's ID number Column B - name Column C - Street Address Column D - City Column E - State
etc...
It being such a large list there are many many duplicates (it was pulled from a bunch of different excel spreadsheets and combined into one via copy and pasting one document into the other).
I figured out a way to have excel highlight the duplicates in a different color... but scrolling through 10k people and deleting the duplicates is obviously very tedious (approx 40% of the spreadsheet is duplicates).
Is there a way to sort out the duplicates (via their ID number, column A) so that there are no repeats? I want to get rid of the 2nd/3rd/4th (etc) occurance of the person's information but I was to obviously keep the first occurance.
I tried using Advanced Filter but I must have done something wrong because it shrunk the list too far down.
I have dumped main frame data into excel. It is customer info that is in three rows of data each. I need to know if its possible to group or somehow keep three rows of data together for multiple sorts. The first row is the customer name, the second row is their first line of address, the third row is the city, state and zip. I need to add columns to this dumped data, but I will need to do a number of sorts for different views of the data. But as I've stated every 3 rows go together. I've tried different ways to group (for lack of a better word) the three rows, but nothing I've tried works. I've also done multiple searches, but either I'm not searching on the right word or this can't be done.
I have a spreadsheet with only 80 rows in it and I need data from another spreadsheet with over 200 rows. One of these rows in each spreadsheet contains a matching field (Job #). I only want the 80 matching rows data from the over 200 row sheet.
Is there an easy way to combine these two. Even adding the 80 to the 200+ will be fine as I can just remove the blanks. I can't figure out a way to combine them and match them up.
I have a table with one column of data. The data in this column repeats with 4 relevant pieces of information that I want to put in 4 different columns (fields) in a different spread sheet (or the same would work better and I would just delete the first column when done) keeping the same order the data is now in. The data currently repeats in a regular pattern (i.e. 123412341234 with no other data in between). I would like to do this with a macro. Could someone help write a macro that will do this
I copy a table from a data dump dbf file into worksheet 1. I enter a separate column titled "Comments" and use this for status purposes. My problem is that when I refresh the worksheet, my comments don't stay attached to the rows/ records that they were originally entered for.
I'm looking for a way to sort dates from several columns into a new single column (perhaps multiple columns if the entry columns become too numerous). I've included an example. There are currently only 4 columns, but there may be as many as 20 in the future, each with 20 dates under each heading. Any blank cells would be eliminated. If I filled a blank with a new date, that date would be placed into the chronological column. So basically, this would take the date from several different categories and create a single calendar of events.
I have a very simple excel with three columns Name (column A), Date (column B), Hours (column C). I want the excel to autosort upon opening so the data is sorted by date. I right-clicked on Sheet 1 and put this in (I found it online):
Private Sub Worksheet_Activate() Application.ScreenUpdating = False Range("B1").CurrentRegion.Sort Key1:=Range("B1"), Order1:=xlDescending, Header:= _ xlGuess, OrderCustom:=1, Orientation:=xlTopToBottom, _ DataOption1:=xlSortNormal Application.ScreenUpdating = True End Sub
IIn my example I have result data from the 2013 USPGA Tour, ordered by player (column A) with subsequent columns detailing their finishing position in each event.
I simply want to condense each player's performance data into one row - as doing it by hand after each event is very time-consuming.
Is there a way of using a simple formula, macro or pivot table (or whatever) to merge each player into one row, but keep each column in the same position (ie to correspond to each weekly event).
Bit of a tricky one this, I have two spreadsheets both with data I need to merge the two and only keep data which is present in both sheets. Each row has a unique identifier. I have copied the sheets into one spready and sorted the data, I thought there might be some kind of edit go to function but cannot find it.
Using columns, (A,B,C & D)Column "A" is used for main grouping (defined as "zone") which I've used conditional formatting to define that there's duplicates. However the subsequent columns B&C are to and from devices. There may be instances of inverse duplicates. How can I either use "If then" formulas or LOOKUP function to note these occurrences? Column "D" is merely the flag column to display the instances of occurrence.
EXAMPLE
ZONE DEVICE TARGET 138 [TRF] 1-2 SCR 1-2 G 3287XT12G 51GT12G 138 [TRF] 1-2 SCR 1-2 G 351GT12G 287XT12G 138 [TRF] 1-2 SCR 1-2 G 3287XT12G 51LT12G PH 2 138 [TRF] 1-2 SCR 1-2 G 3287XT12G 51LT12G PH 3 138 [TRF] 1-2 SCR 1-2 G 3367 12G DTT287XT12G
I have a spreedsheet with 17,000 rows in it. In column D I have ID numbers and in column B I have the dates. There are multiple entries for each ID in column D which gives multiples dates each entry was given in column B. I need a VBA Macro that will identify duplicate entries in Column D and keep only the most recent entry by date in column B.
with deleting duplicate entries in a spreadsheet that contains two names, a code number and a date. All rows with a duplicate number in column “B” should be deleted. Write a micro code? I have a few thousand of entries that need to be knocked out.
I have a large compilation of data on an excel work sheet (I am using 2013). All cells relate to each other by means of dates, names, and other numeric values such as stock numbers, id numbers etc... In one column some stock numbers are repeated. I would like to know if there is a way to set up the program on this worksheet to highlight all repeating stock numbers, not only in the column but across the cells as well, in lieu of doing so manually.
I currently have a worksheet filled with data from other worksheets. I want to combine data from different columns when they share an identical row header and don't know how. For example:
1b-- 1--c 1-d- 2-x- 2y-- 2--z
Would go to:
1bdc 2yxz
Another specific issue is that some row headers are bold and need to be considered a separate header from the non-bold alternative.
in Column B I have customer account number, and they should not repeat but some reason some customers repeat more than once,
so out all column A B C D E if there if customer repeats only thing can be same is customer account number so for example below, account number 12 repeats so I want to only few all account number 12 so I can compare both row and delete the only i need to delete and go back to original
I've got this macro which works well, but I have to edit it to change the column I want to check for dupes. I don't mind doing that, but now I have to share the macro with someone who is not comfortable changing the references in the code every time they run it.
As it is it checks column G:G (7) for dupes and deletes the row. Good. I'd like for it to do the same thing, but for whatever column the active cell is in.
I can use this: Col = ActiveCell.Column in place of the "7" in the With Range part but I don't know how to replace the "G1:G".
Sub DeleteDuplicatesColumnG() With Application .ScreenUpdating = False .EnableEvents = False
I have data and i would like to number duplicates next to the data so that i can append the cells that are duplicates easily. The data i have is in the following cell format -
Red Red Red Green Green Green Green Blue Yellow Yellow
What i would like is to output serial next to the cells based on the cell uniqueness as in -
Red 1 Red 2 Red 3 Green 1 Green 2 Green 3 Green 4 Blue 1 Yellow 1 Yellow 2
I have about 3000 of these values per column. I need to sort the data so that column B and E are the same values. But the cells to the left and right of each B and E need to sort with it. Plus where there is a missing consecutive value I need a blank cell added...
