Multiple Countifs With Date Complication
Jul 8, 2009
I want to count the number of occurences involving 3 columns of a spreadsheet, but one of the columns is a date/time field, and I only want to analyse the date.
Example:
A B C
John 1 02/07/2009 09:45:10
Peter 1 03/06/2009 10:14:12
Fred 1
Peter
John 1 02/07/2009 09:45:10
How can I ask how many occurences of John are in column A, with a 1 in column B, with the date 02/07/2009?

I need to look at a series of data once per week and calculate the results. I'm trying to use COUNTIFS to get a result based on both the date I'm doing the analysis for and for the response.
I've attached a sheet that shows a sample of what I'm trying to do. Cell B1 contains the date range I'm using, and cell B18 shows the formula I'm having trouble with. I suspect it's because I'm trying to treat a date like text, but I'm not sure.

I need a COUNTIFS function (I think that will be the best function to use at least).
I have a two columns of data, column one is dates (mm/dd/yyyy) and column two is states (AK, MA, MI, etc). I need a way to count how many times a states comes up for a certain month. For example, I need to know how many times MA appears through the dates 1/1/2007 and 1/31/2007. Here's what I have so far. It works but I can only specify one date. =COUNTIFS('SHEET NAME'!D:D, "1/5/2007", 'SHEET NAME'!E:E, "MA")

I have a list of information regarding jobs that need to be carried out by a number of companies by a number of dates. What I want to count is the number of jobs that company A need to caary out by a specific date and then the number that company B need to carry out by the same date. The formula basically needs to say countif column a equals company A and column C equals 11/11/09. I have tried numerous combinations of IF, Countif, SUMif, And etc but can't get the formula to work,

I am having a problem getting my formula to return a result. The basics are that I would like a count of a specific set of data in a section of a workbook. So in column 'A' I am searching for 'TextA' but this also has to have 'TextB' in column C. The problem is I have 12 consecutive monthly worksheets I would like to pull this data from and I only really want to write one formula. I can (and started to) use the countifs function plus countifs function etc referencing each worksheet individually but this seems long winded.
I have read on this forum that I can use sumproduct combined with countifs but I can't seem to get it right. I have listed my formula for a single sheet countifs function below, but I don't know how or if to include the sumproduct function to reference the rest of the monthly worksheets. The other thing I should mention is that there are other worksheets too, so it would need to be specific to this range, but they are consecutive within the workbook.

I am currently trying to create a Formula which will count my data on a range of conditions.
Here is an example of my data:
A
B
C
1
Active
4 - High
3 - Medium
[Code] .....
This data then continues on for a number of rows. Basically I want to count the cells which contain "Active" or "Tolerated" in row A which also has a score of 4 or 3 in column B and also a score of column 3 or 2 in column C. So the formula should count Rows 1 and 4 in the above scenario.
The problem I have is the data in B and C contains text as well as a number so I assume there is not a way to use a greater or lesser than operater? and instead I will need to add a condition to just search the cell which contains the number 4 or 3 in column B for example.
I have had a go at this but am not getting very far. Would COUNTIFS be the best formula to use for this?

I'm trying to use the COUNTIFS function & have run into trouble because the 2nd criteria is a date. Typically I would just set the range & then put "01/01/2014" if I was looking for all of the January 1, 2014 cells. However in this spreadsheet my source data contains the date with the time. (01/01/2014 11:27:39 AM). Becasue the time is included in the cell, the function returns no results when I set teh date.
I tried to use a wild card "01/01/2014*" which I thought would bypass the time but it still retuns no results. Is there a way to use a windcard with a date cell?

Here is the data I am working with. On another sheet, I want to count the number of entries on Total requests sheet if Column M - Closed < Column Q - End Date. There is other criteria and I have this, which doesn't work: Run-time error '1004' Application defined or object defined error. I think it is due to the part where I'm working with the dates...

ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = _
"=COUNTIFS('Total Requests'!R2C3:R" & tot_req_row & "C3,RC1,'Total Requests'!

This is the function I have now: =COUNTIFS(Sheet1!A:A,Sheet2!A2,(Sheet1!E:E),"*") and it works great, counting every cell with a value in column E.
When I make criteria range 3 another column (criteria also being"*") my numbers actually start going down. I think it might be averaging the two columns out or something but I just want it to count all the cells with values in it from multiple columns and give me a total count.
I have 4 columns total that I want to be able to get a total count from.

The attached file Countifs issue.xlsx shows my attempt to construct a "CountIfs" formula that finds the one record out of ten that matches the following criteria:
a) Col A has 10 IDs. 3 of them are between 40 - 49, and another 2 are alphanumeric. This formula SHOULD identify these 5:
=COUNTIFS(A2:A11,">39",A2:A11,"<50",A2:A11,"4AB",A2:A11,"40C")
Doesn't work, It finds the 3 numerics but returns "0" when the two alpha-numerics are added.
b) Col B has a list of dates. 5 of the 10 are this month. This formula SHOULD identify them:
=COUNTIFS(B2:B11,(EOMONTH(NOW(),-1)+1),B2:B11,(EOMONTH(TODAY(),0)))
Doesn't work. It returns a value of "0".
c) Col C shows the Status for each record. 5 are "A" and 5 are "B". The following formula DOES find all the "B"s
=COUNTIF(C2:C11,"B")
But obviously I need the full formula to find the one record out of the ten that meets all the criteria.
in (a) and (b) and enable me to combine all three sections.

I have a problem where there are 4 arguments passed to my COUNTIFS function to give me a total count i.e. "KP","James Report","Completed","Month"
Here is the Formula I used;
=COUNTIFS(Master!$B$2:$B$29,Picklist!$C$8,Master!$D$2:$D$29,B3,Master!$H$2:$H$29,Picklist!$C$2,Master!K2:K57,Picklist!E9 )
The last part of my formula is throwing an error "K2:K57"
What I should get in plain English.... "The number of 'James Report' 'Completed by 'KP' in 'August'. (Any specified month based on what comes from my "dates field" on my Master sheet.
I have got a field in my Master sheet with dates which I have transposed into the right month of the year using Month().

I have multiple rows of data per each column. I'm trying to count rows that match a value that ISN'T any of the expected values in column A as well as a certain value in column G. This is in case future data is introduced that doesn't match the existing codes.
I'm trying to count all rows that DON'T have a value in column A beginning with PUA or P9V, so far I am trying this:
=COUNTIFS(A:A,"<>P9V*""<>PUA*",G:G,"P")
But it only seems to work on the "<>P9V" part. When I put P's in the column G of which the column A matches PUA*, it still counts the cell. I've tried a couple of AND variations but none are working.

I am unable to get the correct results using Sumifs and Countifs function. Below is an example:
If I use the formula as =IF(ISERROR(SUMIFS(F2:F8,B2:B8,"Africa",C2:C8,"External",D2:D8,"NoneExt",E2:E8,"2B",E2:E8,"SY")/F9),"N/A",SUMIFS(F2:F8,B2:B8,"Africa",C2:C8,"External",D2:D8,"NoneExt",E2:E8,"2B",E2:E8,"SY")/F9)
I get the result as 0 but the result i want is 19.67% (1234 /6275). Since i have multiple criterias which might not be available at times in the data, i get the value as 0.
BCDEF2CountryMain Conseq.Other conseq.Product Type Amount 3AustriaInternalNoneInt2B $ 278 4AustriaExternalNoneExt3C $ 900 5AustriaExternal-8A $ 2,388 6NorwayInternal-MV $ 567 7AfricaExternal-SY $ 1,234 8AfricaInternalNoneIntJN $ 908 9TOTAL $ 6,275
Similarly i have used a formula using Countifs; =IF(iserror(countifs(E2:E8,B2:B8,"Austria",C2:C8,"External",D2:D8,"NoneExt",E2:E8,"=3C")+counifs(E2:E8,B2:B8,"Austria",C2:C8,"External",D2:D8,"NoneExt",E2:E8,"=2B")/F9),"N/A",countifs(E2:E8,B2:B8,"Austria",C2:C8,"External",D2:D8,"NoneExt",E2:E8,"=3C")+counifs(E2:E8,B2:B8,"Austria",C2:C8,"External",D2:D8,"NoneExt",E2:E8,"=2B")/F9)
And even the above formula does not work with the criterias given. What i require is, if the country is "Austria", "External", and "NoneExt" then count those lines which has product Type as "3C", 2B". So the result for the above should be 1.
Request you to kindly let me know the correct way or the right formula to extract data for the above criterias.

I created the following in Excel 2007 but need to come up with a replacement formula in 2003.
=COUNTIFS('Data High'!AM2:AM999,"0",'Data High'!AN2:AN999,"Non Corp",'Data High'!AL2:AL999,"No")+COUNTIFS('Data Medium'!AI2:AI2000,"No",'Data Medium'!AJ2:AJ2000,"0",'Data Medium'!AK2:AK2000,"Non Corp")+COUNTIFS('Data Low'!AA2:AA5000,"No",'Data Low'!AB2:AB5000,"0",'Data Low'!AC2:AC5000,"Non Corp")
With this spreadsheet i pull data straight from a database and place it in to 3 separate worksheets. The first worksheet which is the summary sheet then updates all the totals of certain occurrences. The above formula is the same format for all fields in the summary with a few variations. But they all have the following in common. They draw data from all 3 worksheets and total it all up, and each countifs looks at 3 different cells.
In terms of replacing it i have tried to use something like =SUMPRODUCT(--('Data Low'!AA2:AA5000="No")*('Data Low'!AB2:AB5000="0")*('Data Low'!AC2:AC5000="Non Corp")) but don't seem to be getting it right.

I have been looking at a post number 170404 which NBVC answered with an example grid. This was while I was trying to bring searched data through to another sheet and this is just what I was looking for as a brilliant start,
I have attached my very similar example in my scenario. I have also got NBVC's example on the first two sheets of this as reference. In addition I am also bringing through from-to date ranges which I then need to be applied to a Booking Sheet so I can see that these dates are booked for this person, and ideally where they are going and what they need to do there by colour.
I tried, just as a test in this example the following. Please note that this only had the three ranges as I was testing an example coordinator which returned three date ranges. It could be that the example returns 20 or 30 ranges that need to be applied to the rather primative Booking Sheet.
=IF(OR(AND(C10>='Coordinators list'!F5,'Coordinators list'!L5<=C10),(AND(C10>='Coordinators list'!F6,'Coordinators list'!L6<=C10)),(AND(C10>='Coordinators list'!F7,'Coordinators list'!L7<=C10))),"yes","no")
It seemed to give the right answer initially but trying different dates it gave the wrong result. It seemed to be checking one of the ranges and not all of them. As mentioned above this was just an example to see what I could get working but I don't think that this would be the ideal way of doing this as it would need to check 30-40 maybe more ranges depending on what comes back from the coordinator search.
The aim would be to choose a co-ordinator on the Site Planner sheet and ideally return the city rather than the yes/no in the Booking Sheet for that date and use conditional formatting so that if the type from the Site Planner Sheet was paint it would fill in one colour, clean in another, etc.
Was hopefully trying to get this done without using any VB as I am trying to resolve this for my Wife she isn't very tech savvy and and I need to be able to explain the formulas!
I'm sure you will see from my sheet I have given this a good go but I am a bit unsure on what some of the formulas on NBVC sheet are doing, and that this is my first attempt at doing anything like this. I have also tried using lookup and match but I'm still having issues that they either aren't always in date order and it seems to return no if it doesn't match the first range. The other main issue that I have seen is that I need to check whatever ranges the selection comes back with rather than adding each one to search through.
I hope this becomes a bit clearer on the sheet I have attached,

I have a table with three columns. I'm building a calendar on a separate worksheet and am looking up the "value" based on a calendar date. So if a date falls within any of the ranges, I'd like to return the value in column C. For example, if the date is 02/07/12, I'd like for the result to be value 1, or if the date is 04/17/12, then I would like the result to be value 3. I've used a nested vlookup, but all that give me is the value when either the start or end dates match, but I can't get a value when the date falls within the range. If the dates were consecutive, I would simply use vlookup/TRUE, but the dates are not consecutive.
ABC102/06/1202/09/12value 1203/12/1203/15/12value 2304/16/1204/19/12value 3405/21/1205/24/12value 4506/25/1206/28/12value 5606/25/1206/28/12value 6

I am looking for a replacement to the function COUNTIFS that will work with Excel 97-03. I have attached a sample of the document which will hopefully demonstrate what I am trying to achieve. On the sheet labelled 'Data' there is four headings (MerRefs, JCPRefs, Self Refs and Other) for the results beneath these headings I have used the Countifs function. I have attempted to use the SUMIF as an array formula but couldn't get this to work.
Also in the hope of killing two birds with one stone, I created this in Excel 2007 and in the past when I have saved documents as 97-03 documents it used to warn me of any incompatible functions included within the doc and now it doesent. Where can I switch that setting on?

I'm trying to do a COUNTIFS for a set of data. What I want it to do is pull everything that is assigned to a certain person that has no date in one column, and information in another. For example:
Name
Date
Comment
Michelle
4/30/14
Closed
Michelle
Issue
Michelle
4/30/14
Closed
Michelle
4/30/14
Closed
Michelle

So based on this dataset, I would get the number 2 for Michelle (row 2 and 5 have no date in column B and a comment in column C). I've tried a few variations and can't seem to make it work right.
