I have two work sheets I'm using. Sheet1!A column contains a list of customer names like "Smith, John".
Sheet2!A contains the same list of name with additional information found in the row. For example, you will find "Smith, John" in Sheet2!A3 and John's phone number in Sheet2!B3
In Sheet1!B it to find the associated telephone number based on matching criteria from Sheet1!A and Sheet2!A
For example, Sheet2 has the following data.

On Sheet1 I have the following names. You'll notice some of the names repeat.

In column Sheet1!B I would like it to scan column A from sheet2 and display the data show in column B. So it would look like this-
[Code] ....
You'll notice some names repeat but it always displays the correct number from Sheet2.

I need to find and match patterns of strings in a column and fetch data from the adjacent column. I've attached a sample workbook with my sample data.
How can I find the appropriate matching pattern and fetch and fill data from the adjacent column from my source table to destination? I tried the string functions available and used SEARCH function to match the pattern and check whether it is available. However, when the pattern is found, how can I fetch the adjacent column ?
My attempt to code a formula using SUBSTITUTE, MID and SEARCH functions. Below is the monster formula I wrote - it works and returns 1 when the pattern is found.
Formula:
I need to return the matching pattern that is found. And with it the corresponding adjacent cell's value.

I want to read information from the "Mapping" sheet, then find information in the "GLEX" sheet that correspond to the read information, then copy the information that was found in "GLEX" to the "Calc" sheet and add it all together and display the sum in a particular cell in the "Report" sheet.
The "Mapping" sheet is a mapping of information to show what makes up a particular total and where it must be entered in the "Report" sheet. The "GLEX" sheet is the output from a financial system and the source of the information that must be "reformatted" to the "Report" sheet. The information is only an extract as the whole totals to around 10MB. I have also deleted the "Report" sheet as it is fairly big on it's own, but the principal will be the same, I think. (If i should upload the "Report" sheet,)
Step 1:
"Column A" and "Column B" of "Mapping" are the starting points. The macro must read the values in "Mapping" "Column A" and "Column B" and remember them. Then it must find the row in "GLEX" "Column A" where the information from "Mapping" "Column A" matches and where the information from "Mapping" "Column B" matches with the information from "GLEX" "Column E".

I have the following dataset:
[Date] [Category] [Currency] [ExchangeRate] [.....], etc.
1-3-09 A USD 0,8
1-6-09 A EUR 1
1-7-09 A USD 0,7
1-8-09 B USD 0,9
1-9-09 B USD <formula>
I'd like to have the value of <formula> looked up in older records. Currency and category should match and it should pick the exchange rate with the maximum date.
Which formula and what syntax should I use to have this done?
I use Excel 2007.

I am trying to use a nested INDEX and MATCH array formula to return the value in column C when matching column A and column B, but with a few more criteria.

I am looking for the array formula to return the name of the person in column C who is in Cat 1 after the date in column B.
For example;
C7 should return "John" because B7 requests "January 15, 2014", which is after the value in B1
C8 should return "John" because B8 requests "February 15, 2014", which is after the value in B1
C9 should return "Andrew" because B9 requests "August 15, 2014", which is after the value in B4
The best try I had for the formula in C7 was
{(INDEX($A$1:$C$4,MATCH(1,($B$1:$B$4>=B7)*(A$1:$A$4=A7),0),3))}
This brings back "John" as desired in C7, but when copying down the table into C8 and C9 both C8 and C9 return Andrew.
I guess this is due to my ">=" condition in the Match formula and it is returning "Andrew" because "Andrew" is also after the date requested, but I cannot for the life of me work out how to get it to work.

I need to match data with specific criteria. Details of the problem are as follows:
I have 2 sheets: "Main" and "Sub"
In "Main" there are 3 Important Columns: Col "C", "I" and "AF"
In "Sub" there are 2 Important Columns: Col "I' and "N".
Value in column "C" of "Main" is same as value in column "I" of "Sub", but not in same order.
Now the specific criteria:
If value in Column "I" of "Main" is not equal to "Zero", then the macro should pick up the value from the corresponding column "C" of "Main" and search for the same in column "I" of "Sub". After matching the same, it should find corresponding value in column "N" of "Sub". Then the macro should pick up the value from column "N" of "Sub" and put the value in the column "AF" of "Main".
This is basic requirement.
I am unable to retrieve the right value for the same.
Fine tuining will be:
If the value in column "N" of "Sub" is "Fully Automated" then it should only write "Automated" in column "AF" of "Main". And If the value is "Manual + ...." then it should write "Manual" in column "AF" of "Main".

I have two sheets where I dump data into. Widget sales and Widget Accessory sales. I'm trying to display for the widget salesmen the amount of dollars they sell in widget accessories ONLY for the transactions in which they also sell a widget at the same time.
So I need a formula or process (taking and comparing the data from both sheets) to do the following
IF
1. The dates of a widget sale and the accessory sale match (in both sheets)
2. The salesman ID in both sheets match
3. The names of the customer in both sheets match
THEN
1. Add up the total dollars by salesman for sales that match the above criteria
I've tried using sumproduct... I've tried using countif and concatenating pieces of data to make unique sales codes... I've exhausted my meager excel skills .

I want the script to find if the value entered in the form is matching the values in column 'A' in the database and if it matches then it needs to select the cell as active cell - to populate the form details. And if there is no matching value found, the script needs to select the last empty cell of the column 'A' to populate the data entered in the form.
1) Form has 10 different fields that needs to be filled by the user.
2) Field 1 - is a text box for 'Request #' to be entered by the user.
3) After filling in all the fields - once clicked on OK, the form should search for the the 'request #' entered on the form in the database (Form and the database are in the same workbook).
4) If the 'Reqeust #' in the Column 'A' matches the the 'Request #' entered in the form, then the matching cell should be selected (Activecell -Were the data can be overwritten, with the new entry)
5)If there is no matching 'Request #' found in the database, the script should loop to select the next available blank cell in column 'A'. So that the form data can be entered.

I've got an array of data about 30x1500 cells in size, I want to use this data in a table I'm making on another worksheet.
Normally I'd just use VLOOKUP and this works great in most cases but I want to do something a little bit more complicated. Basically I want to (in normal English) have excel look at the table, find a cell that matches criteria in this data array, then compare to another cell on the same row in this array. If the criteria for these two match then display the data from another cell on the same row. The criteria for matching the first cells would be an exact value, both being strings of text.
I've tried using a couple of nested VLOOKUP and IF statements but failed .....

I have two excel sheets. Lets say one is for May and another for June month. I have some data like name of account, account number their ratings . I wish to find if the account present in June month was present in May month sheet or not and if yes, then i need to extract a rating entry( column) from it and paste it in another sheet where i have copied all the data of June month so that i am able to see if the rating has changed over the months or remain same for that particular account...
i am trying vlookup but it is not able to search the name of the account even when it is present in the sheet( like WBIDFC) ... it seems the problem may be because of the format but i am not sure.... moreover i tried to vlookup via account no. but problem is that sometimes the account number is given and sometimes not.. Moreover , the format also does not match sometimes..

I have an items list on page 2. On page 1 I want to create a drop down menu in C2 that references the list on page 2. Then when I choose an item, I want the additional information in cells D2 and E2 to come in automatically. The list on page 2 will be expanding daily, and when I expand it I can simply insert a new row so I correctly alphabatize it instead of constantly having to resort it.
With that said....
1. How do you put in the drop down box that references information on a different sheet?
2. What is the best way to reference the information in my ever expanding situation: Index/Match, Vlookup, Lookup, or something I havent mentioned?

I am attempting to place a formula in cell b3 in the attached spreadsheet on the "sheet to pull data into" tab 1 (cell is highlighted yellow) to retrieve value in the yellow highlighted cell in the "Sheet that contains data" which is on a seperate worksheet within the same workbook.
The cells highlighted red in the "sheet to pull into" tab (cells: a1, a3, b1, and b3) are the criteria that needs to be matched to those cells on "sheet that contains data" tab in order to ensure the value returned is correct.Sample of problem.xlsx <----see the attached sample spreadsheet.

Macro: Copy selected cell to another sheet next blank row
I'll just make this simple to understand.
*Again, I have first sheet, named "SUMMARY"
*On Column A, I have list of names
A1: Star
A2: Moon
A3: Sun
A4: Clouds
*these cells corresponds to the Cells of different sheets
A1: Star = E3 of Sheet 1
A2: Moon = E3 of Sheet 2
A3: Sun = E3 of Sheet 3
A4: Clouds = E3 of Sheet 4
this is what I should get:
1. I select the cell A1 as an active cell
2. press the button (with the macro on it)
3. I will automatically go to the sheet where "Star" is located

Sheet2 has columns with dates as headings. I add data under each date as appropriate. I would like a summary page for Sheet1 that contains only the most recent column data from Sheet2 (and other sheets, of course). For instance, if I have dates for columns A-E on Sheet2, but only A and B have data under them, I would like Sheet1 to contain the data in Sheet2!B, but not Sheet2!A because that is old data. Sheet1 will only contain the most recent data while sheets 2 through "n" will have historical data. Attached is an example of what I mean...

I need to write entries into an open spreadsheet with data input on a userform.
i need to use the xlup facility to find the last used row in the spreadsheet, select the next line and then enter the data, but how to return to VBA the actual cell reference that has been selected after doing the xlup and down one row. I need to be able a total potential 31 rows of data from the userform.

I have a userform that I am using to populate a column with data. I have the following code to find the next blank cell on the first row to enter the data from the first textbox in the userform
ActiveSheet.Range("av1").End(xlToLeft).Offset(0, 1).Value = TextBox1
I was then going to populate the rest of the cells in the column by changing the range "A1" to "A2" and so on. The problem I have is that not all of the cells have a compulsory entry so when the end(xlToLeft) function may not always end in the same column and the data will be staggered.

I'm trying to find a way to search a second sheet in a workbook for specific criteria outlined in a first sheet (in my attached example, from A3 downwards within the 'list of search criteria' sheet), and then to copy any secondary data found against a successful search match to the original sheet, transposed against its corresponding matched search term.
As you can see in the example, the search term 'bindi' (A4 in the 'list of search criteria' sheet) appears in the 'data' sheet 3 times - the secondary data for these occurences ('feathery', 'Fibonacci', 'glassy') is copied to the 'bindi' row on the first sheet and is offset with each copy to produce a transposed-esque effect of copy and paste.
If it's any help, there are a maximum of 9 matches for a single search term in the real document.
Thanks in advance for your help... I tried to adapt a previous solution given to me for a similar question but failed miserably. I bow humbly to your expertise!

i have is 3 sheets in the same excel document. Sheet 1 is the mater sheet, which is a compilation of sheets 2 and 3, however the sheet layouts are different.
The sheets consist of a list of names and details. Sheet 1 has all the names in the list, however sheet 2 and 3 only have partial lists that are in a different order from the original list. The details listed next to the names in sheets 2 and 3 are different and hence a straight forward row copy and paste will not work.
What i need is to write a vba script that can take the name from the master list, search sheets 2 and 3 for the name and lookup the variables placed in next to the name, then update the master sheet accordingly, then continue to the next name on the master sheet and do the update again, and so on until all is updated. I have already thought about using lookup functions in excel however there is 1000 names on the list and around 60 details so it would be messy.

I have a client list in a table in my excel sheet. I currently enter the clients in a sheet that looks similar to a form. After the clients info is in this Form I have a button with a macro to copy the client info into a table on another sheet. This works perfectly.
Now I have another form that will retrieve the customers info in a click of a button in order to make changes to the client. Ei:I now have a second phone number and I want to update that client's info. What I want to do from here is take the info in Cell B2 (clients full Name), Do a vLookup in the "Saved Clients Table" in a Range within my table range. (Range: Saved Clients and the client's full name is in $A:$A and called "Clients Full Name" and once that name is found I need to select the cell in column C and the corresponding row.
This will allow me to copy the info in my form, Paste it in Transpose to the cell that is selected. (I already have that code)

I've got two tables of information here, if you scroll to the far right of table 1 and look at the left of table two, you'll see a common code like:
AMWG16=01_0211-20
AMWG16=01_0212-16
and these entries will appear multiple times as well
AMWG16=01_0212-16
appears twice and the data is different and will need to be added up
How can I:
1. Add up the data on each table with the common string such as "AMWG16=01_0212-16"
2. Take all the data that has been added up and combine the statistics, for example,
when its all done it should show
AMWG16=01_0212-16
in the first column, and then all the statistics from the two tables in the columns to the right.
I'm guesssing...
Since some entries appear multiple times, you will need to sum up all the unique entries for that value. Say:
AMWG16=01_0211-20
Shows up three times, you'll need to sum up all the values and this needs to be done on both tables
THEN
You can combine the data
I'm familiar w/ vlookup, index, match functions, but I'm not quite sure how to put this all together

Attempting to match values in column E with column G and insert the corresponding number (column H) into column F See attached workbook for example.
Hoping to do this using VBA, not just a VLOOKUP.
The code below, places 0 values into the correct rows of column F, instead of the correctly associated value.
