I am staring at this excel spreadsheet blankly ... I am at a loss as to how to accomplish the detailed analasys but simple math this spreadsheet reequires.
The data consists of three columns pasted from a report that is exported as a .csv:

I am trying to determine the total hours of downtime accumulated when there are 2 or more machines down during the same time period. To do this, I need to be able to determine if at any point there are 2 or more pieces of equipment down at the same time, and if this is true, how many hours were overlapped. The attached spreadsheet shows how the data is presented.

What I need is a formular/vba code that can divide hours into different time ranges. The picture below shows an explanation.
In example 3 there time range analyzed goes from saturday till monday. Here Sunday should get 24 hours and the time range 23-08 for weekdays is at this point 00-08.
I've tried everything I could imagine to get this one working,

I am trying to figure a way to search for a cell that has a specific date and time range. There are several cell titles pending on the activity. I want to find a cell that has a time ** 7:30-15:30 , 15:31-17:30, 17:31-20:30. The end result is to calculate the activity between those time periods based on the data cells.
Example
If the date searched time field ** the activity ranges is 1635 I need to split the time and credit the activity time in the 730-1530 time and the rest on the 15:31-17:30 time
I have been able to do it on a single labor group based on time alone, but when I try to add the DATE to it my numbers go null. Eventually i will need to add 11 labor groups daily for weeks at a time .

I am wanting to calculate the the processing time for an order that takes place within normal business hours and workweek. A normal day is from 8:00 to 5:00 If a task is started at 2:00 PM Monday and finished at 10:00 AM Tuesday then the result should be 5 hours as I do not want to include any time outside of normal hours. I can figure out how to subtract dates and times but not how to bridge a day(s). My data is somewhat flexible as I have not started the project yet. I can use separate cells for the times and dates or have two cells that use both incorporate the date and time (8/27/09 2:00 PM) for start and end time or any other idea.

I have a range of cells and when an amount is entered into a cell I would like it to pick which row to pick from and do the sum from that row. for eg if I was to put $201,000 I want it to pick the row with $200,000 to $540,000 range and use the sum from that row. eg below
Taxable ValueRates Percent
$0-$200,000 $00.0%
$200,000-$540,000$2000.2%
$540,000-$900,000$8800.5%
$900,000-$1,190,000$2,6800.8%
$1,190,000-$1,620,000$5,0001.2%
$1,620,000-$2,700,000$10,1601.8%
$2,700,000-> $29,6003.0%
the sum I have for the rows is ((E3-A3)*D3+C3) but somehow need to have it choose from ranges and use appropriate sum.

I found this formula similar to other formula
NETWORKDAYS(D1,F1)-1)*"18:00"-"9:00")+IF(NETWORKDAYS(F1,F1),MEDIAN(G1,"9:00","18:00"),"18:00")-MEDIAN(NETWORKDAYS(D1,D1)*E1,"9:00","18:00")
By the way ....D1 = start Date
F1 = End Date
E1 = start Time
G1 = End Time
It's GREAT! But now I need include time from 6:00 a. m. to 10:00 p. m. (I already modified your formula:
(NETWORKDAYS(D1,F1)-1)*("22:00"-"6:00")+IF(NETWORKDAYS(F1,F1),MEDIAN(G1,"6:00","22:00"),"22:00")-MEDIAN(NETWORKDAYS(D1,D1)*E1,"6:00","22:00")) because are regular working hours in Colombia but:
1. All the days (Monday to Saturday) are working days
2. I just want to calculate the time in shifts, I don't specify the start date and end date. Example: 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Result: 2 hours, because 1 hour is after 10:00 p.m.
This are two different options, so I need two separate formulas.

This may be a bit vague but here goes.
I have to calculate the difference between the start time and end time of a job. The only catch is, how can I avoid calculating "out of hours" time. So, if a job goes from 9am to 9am the next day, I want it to avoid calculating between the hours of 23:30 and 03:30.
Another example is if a job goes from 02:00 to 04:00, I want it to avoid the tim between 02:00 and 03:00.
If there is a difference in days, so the job goes overnight, how do I take that into consideration also.

I've got a time difference from 8:00AM - 12:30PM as 4.30 I'm trying to get the minutes, .30, converted into a 6 minute increment, .5. Is it possible to do this and if so how would it be done? Below is a chart of how the time is converted from 6 minutes increments into decimal form.
6 = 0.1 36 = 0.6
12 = 0.2 42 = 0.7
18 = 0.3 48 = 0.8
24 = 0.4 54 = 0.9
30 = 0.5 60 = 1.0

I'm trying to devise a formula to produce "days in inventory" based on the following data:
Date In
Date Out (which may be blank if cargo still here)
Todays Date
Days in Whse (which is the formula I can't figure out!)
It needs to work like this, date out - date in, unless date out is null. If date out is null, the result should be calculated based off of todays date - date in.

WORKSHEET RIGHT NOW:
Column A = date of birth --- formula being used: =TODAY()
Column B = age, calculated to years, months, days --- formula being used: =DATEDIF(C13,TODAY(),"y")&"y "&DATEDIF(C13,TODAY(),"ym")&"m "&DATEDIF(C13,TODAY(),"md")&"d"
What I need in Column C is the following:
If the age from Column B is from 0 to less than 2, I need it to say "Infant"
If the age from Column B is greater than or equal to 2 but less than 12, I need it to say "Middle"
If the age from Column B is greater than or equal to 12 but less than 18, I need it to say "Adol."
If the age from Column B is greater than 18, I need it to say "Young Adult"

I have a list of mileage rates that correspond with different date ranges. For example the mileage rate for March 19, 2008 – July 31, 2008 was 50.5 cents per mile. I have 11 different mileage rates / date ranges from 2000 onwards.
I would like to devise a way that I could input the date and the number of miles travelled into the spreadsheet, then Excel would check the date entered in order to choose the appropriate mileage rate and calculate the dollar amount based on the # of miles input.
Here are the date ranges and rates in the event that anyone is interested in putting something like this together. I would be grateful for an example for one or two of the rates though and hopefully could extrapolate from there.
1/1/00 - 3/31/00 - 32.5 cents per mile
4/1/01 - 12/31/01 - 34.5
1/1/02 - 12/31/02 - 36.5
1/1/03 - 12/31/03 - 36
1/1/04 - 12/31/04 - 37.5
1/1/05 - 8/31/05 - 40.5
9/1/05 - 12/31/05 - 48.5
1/1/06 - 1/31/07 - 44.5
2/1/07 - 3/18/08 - 48.5
3/19/08 - 7/31/08 - 50.5
8/1/08 - current - 58.5

if it is possible (and if so how) to add a scroll bar to excel (currently using 2003). What I am attempting to acheive is to have two areas on a work sheet, the first of which contains data that is much larger than the second but both of them need to appear on the screen at the same time. If it was possible to apply a vertical scroll bar to the first range which is named this would be possible.

how to calculate time overlaps between two ranges using a MIN/MAX formula. Now I need to do the same, but for three (or more) ranges. I have searched and searched, but I can't find a solution. I've attached a sample spreadsheet.
In the example, John is working three jobs, job one from 8AM-4PM, job two from 12PM-2PM and job three from 9AM-11AM. There is a total of 4 hours of overlap, 2 hours from job two and 2 hours from job three. How can I get Excel to calculate that for me?

Is there any way to find out how many people are scheduled between certain time ranges.
For example : I have 5 people scheduled with various start and finish times ie.:
1. 10:00 to 15:00
2. 11:00 to 16:00
3. 08:00 to 14:00
4. 13:00 to 15:00
5. 12:00 to 16:00
Is there any way to analise this schedule in format:
08:00 till 9:00 1 scheduled
09:00 till 10:00 1 scheduled
10:00 till 11:00 2 scheduled
11:00 till 12:00 3 scheduled

WHen I was a beginner at Excel, I came up with the following formula to calculate the time difference between two "time" values. Since I was too lazy to add a ":" between my hour and minute, I had decided to simply enter the start (column B) and end time (column C) as a military time (e.g., 0100, 1230, 1500, 1930, 2300, 2359). The following formula would be in Column D.
