List First Instance Only Ignoring Blanks In ROWS

Dec 11, 2008

I have a set up of investments. Say A1 through to G1. Then on the next row the investments range from A1 to G1 again. This continues down many rows. There are spaces such as D1 and D2 through E2.

A
B
C
D
E
F
G
1
ausbil........................

Starting in column H, I would like to list the investments but ignore investments that have already appeared on the row (ie list only the first occurence) and ignore the blanks as well. For example, D1, E1, F1 are to be ignored because of the blank, and the fact that ausbil and amp already appear.
In row 2, the blanks in D2 and E2 are ignored as well as the repeated 'amp' in F2. So the table should look like below from column H:

H
I
J
K
1
ausbil
amp
vanguard
bt
2
amp
becton
fidelity
bt

Is there a simple formula for this? It has to be in rows as I have at least 60 columns of data before these columns begin. There are at least 300 rows.

Sequentially Number List Ignoring Blanks?

Feb 7, 2014

I have a column of week numbers but some gaps in the list (e.g. the job is complete and so I do not want to reference it) I am trying to create a list of jobs by week number. I need to sequentially number jobs to then use Vlookup e.g. job1-week1 job2-week1 etc to display be week.

I can work out to number the list ignoring the blanks but then resetting to 1 with each new week?

Ignoring Blanks When Calculating SUM

SUM Last 6 Cells With Data (ignoring Blanks In Between)

Aug 8, 2014

I want to count back the last 6 cells in column S which has data (ignoring any blank cells) and add them up.

My data is ranging betwen S62:S143 (with S144 being the cell that I want to show the total for the last 6 cells with data). I have column headings and various other bits of data from S1:S61 that I want to exclude completely but need to keep for historical purposes.

Here is an example of some of the data in column S:

BLANK CELL
BLANK CELL
37
BLANK CELL
BLANK CELL

BLANK CELL
BLANK CELL

This is my formula so far:

=SUM(OFFSET(S62,0,0,COUNTA(S62:S143)))

I have tried adding a negative and positive number on the end of the COUNTA formula but all it does is count all the cells within that given heigh range, not a specific number of cells with data.

I don't specifically need to use SUM. As long as I get a total.

Calculate From Last Instance Ignore Blanks To Maintain Running Total

Aug 6, 2013

I have a spreadsheet that is tracking a MTD receivables (running total). When it comes to weekends or day's when their were no receivables the running total needs to reference the last working day or the last receivable entry to perform its calculations for that day.

So in the table below (couldn't post attachment) the first row(1) = days of week , second row (2) = running MTD totals and the 3rd row (reference cells). So for Wednesday I our totals were 9995 which I entered in Row 3 (column A) and called it to Row 2 (column A). For Thursday I called Row 3 (column b which was known and manually entered) and subtracted Row 3 (column A) and populated Row 2 (column b). So my equation to in Row 2 column b is simple as =sum(b2-b1)

This is ok but when the weekend (or days not worked) come in to play you can see it produces a negative for Saturday / Sunday. Saturday took 15,707 and subtracted it from nothing (row 3 column d) since there were no receivables on Saturday.

So I need a formula that will calculate from the last instance while ignoring blank cells.

Copy And Paste Using VBA Ignoring Blanks And Stacking Data

Jun 15, 2012

I have a spreadsheet with a bunch of formulas in Cells B4:E100 in Sheet1. Many of the formulas will show up blank information in the event I do not have any data in Column A. I then have formulas which perform a similar function in Cells G4:Q100, S4:AC100, AE4:AO100 & AQ4:BA100.

What I need to do is to take the data from the last 4 sets of cells (G4:Q100, S4:AC100, AE4:AO100 & AQ4:BA100) and stack then one on top of the other into Sheet2 starting in Cell A2. I need the code however to be smart enough to realize that if there are blanks which exist in any of those sets of cells to skip over to the next set of data I which to copy and start pasting that set of information without leaving any blanks.

So far example, if I only have data between Cells A4:A25, I want the VBA code to go only through cells G4:Q25 and then start pasting without any spaces S4:AC25 and so on.

Array Formula Not Ignoring Blanks To Count Row Number?

Oct 3, 2012

=IF(ROWS(A$11:A13)1,IF(MSB!$A13"",SMALL(ROW(Table1[APP DATE])-ROW(MSB!$A$11)+1,ROWS(A$11:A13)),""))))

the problem is that when both if statements are true i want it to get the row number, this is because table1 has blank rows (can not be avoided as the data is linked from a closed workbook)

i can see this works up until it meets the first blank row and i get #value error.

on table1 data exists on row 1,2,5 and 8 so my problem is getting the small function k to report these numbers?

Return List - Ignoring Empty Cells

Nov 24, 2008

I don't know if this is best in a formula or macro but what I am trying to do is create a list of data with no empty cells from a list of data with empty cells.

What I want to say is if A1 is blank move to A2, if it's not return the value in A1 to B1. If A1 and A2 are blank then return the value in A3 to B1 and so on. Generally it's a sort function but I want it to happen automatcially and lkeep all my values in the original order

Original Version:

Date 1/4 Value 1/4
23/02/199913.506

5/05/199911.901

14/05/199912.152

24/05/199911.607

7/06/199911.187

29/07/199911.828

2/09/199910.473

6/09/199910.429

Desired outcome:

Date 1/4 Value 1/4

Pull Every Instance INDEX/MATCH Criteria Into Consecutive Rows

Jan 11, 2010

I'm trying to fix a report that I created but can't seem to figure out a way to display the information for a single student.

I've attached a mock report up so that maybe it would make more sense.

So the first tab, 'DIR', I managed to find a way to pull up only the information for a single student that was selected in the drop-down D1 cell. For that I used a simple INDEX/MATCH combo. The student's name would only appear once in the 'Paste DIR' tab, so it was fairly simple to create these formulas.

Now for the 'Paste Outreach' tab, a student appears multiple times in the chunk of information. Right now, the way that I have the report is so that it would just pull the information from each row, regardless of the student. What I would like to do is find a formula similar to INDEX/MATCH, but find every instance when the criteria is met for the INDEX/MATCH. I would like to be able to log each instance a student has an Outreach log entered. Then if I switch the student selected in D1 of the DIR tab, then it would only populate their Outreach Logs.

So if Student Name & Outreach # matches D1 ('DIR' tab) & "90" in "Paste Outreach, then pull row info into rows 7-11 in Outreach.
Find the next instance Name & # matches, and pull that into rows 12-16, etc.

Select Current Region Ignoring Cells In Dropdown List?

Is there a way to force CurrentRegion to select only values from A1:J9 ignoring the blanks dropdown list values or a similar way to load an array with values in a contiguous range?

Dividing The Sum Of Two Rows Ignoring Null Entries

Oct 8, 2008

I'm trying to craft a gradesheet for my son's teacher and I am runnning into a problem obtaining a students average. I need a way to calculate the overall avergae of the student while ingoring columns with null values in the "questions answered correctly" row.

I know there is a way to ignore zeroes by excluding them with an IF statement but I didn't want to do that in case one of the students actually did get a zero. As the attached example shows the simple sum function renders a 25% average while the average should actually be 50%.

Ignoring Autofiler Hidden Rows With SUMPRODUCT And SUBTOTAL

Feb 18, 2009

I posted a thread a while back about how to ignore hidden rows from autofilter when using formulas. http://www.excelforum.com/excel-work...ml#post2039071

The solution worked perfectly. But I have since had to use this on another sheet which is laid out a bit differently, I have tried everything to try and modify the formula to work on the new sheet but so far I have failed miserably!! I need to do the exact same thing on this sheet - filter the sheet by week and search the data for certain criteria ('Line' and 'Fail Reason') and sum up the total quantity, while ignoring autofilters hidden rows. Here is an example of the sheet, along with an attempt of mine to modify the formula, which I think I have got TOTALLY wrong!

Automatically Rank Cells Ignoring Hidden Rows?

Mar 7, 2012

Any way to automatically "rank" cells, ignoring any hidden rows? I don't even really need Excel to sort for me (although I wouldn't be opposed to that), but I'd like the first non-hidden cell in column A to always say "1" and the second one to say "2" and so on.

The back story, if you need it: I have a spreadsheet that tracks sales for 2 separate brands. I've created a macro and linked it to a listbox, so that you can choose which brand you want to view and Excel will hide all rows that aren't pertaining to that brand (I'm absurdly proud of that accomplishment). The only problem is the rankings are hard-coded, so when you hide one brand the rankings no longer make sense.

Every Monday I sort the items by the most recent week's sales and rank them from there. The addition of a second brand is obviously new to my little spreadsheet!
