Populate Cells Based On Data In Another Sheet
Feb 24, 2010
I run this macro that populates 7 cells based on data in another sheet. It seems that every sheet that have formulas that point to this sheet are being stuck in in the screen updating somehow?
Basically when I press F9 to calculate or change any cell that makes the sheet calculate it has like a screen burn in of all the sheets that are being calculated. I have been able to use this as a workaround:
Private Sub Workbook_SheetCalculate(ByVal Sh As Object)
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
End Sub
But I shouldn't have to do this and it slows it down as it runs through this specific code about 11 times for each sheet that is re-calculating. Something is getting stuck in memory or something that seems to be causing this issue. This is the code I am using and I am not selecting any cells or sheets, but it appears that when I walk through the code that an image of the sheet comes up on the screen? The code in red seems to be what is causing the issues, but I do not know why? I can pass the 2 workbooks along to someone so they can see the behavior if they would like? Just let me know.
Sub populateEmployeeData()
Dim srcWorkbook As Workbook
Dim foundEmployee As Range
Dim srcWorkbookName As String
srcWorkbookName = "XIP_Employee_Data_" & Left(ActiveSheet.Range("B9").Value, 31) & "_" & Format(ActiveSheet.Range("B10").Value, "MMMDDYYYY") & ".xlsx"
If IsWorkBookOpen(srcWorkbookName) Then..........................

I have a spreadsheet that is updated weekly -- but every week new info is added that needs a user to input corresponding info. I use a vlookup function to link to another spreadsheet that populates the info from previous weeks and the info that is missing shows up as #N/A...
First I was using a msgbox function to get the info:
HTML Code:
For Each b In myrange
If Application.IsNA(b.Value) Then
Employee = b.Offset(0, -2).Value
SSID = InputBox("Please enter ID# for " & Employee & " :", "New Employee Found")
b.Value = SSID
End If
Next b
But it can be up to 30 different new employees... and that is time consuming.
I would like to make it more user friendly by creating ONE userform that displays all of the employees as labels -- has a text box in which to put the ID # -- and then has a drop down box to choose the type of employee (2 options). I want all of that info to go back to the reference spreadsheet so it will be saved for following weeks, and then redo the vlookup to get the info into the new weekly spreadsheet (I can do that part)....
HTML Code:
Private Sub CloseButton_Click()
Unload UserForm1
End Sub
Private Sub ComboBox1_Change()
[Code] ......

What formula do I use to populate certain cells (E5:E10 and J5:10) based on match with condition (E3) with cells from and in the ranges C2:C73 and D2:D73 without creating milelong IF formulas? I am almost at the goal... past 10pm here in Thailand and still at the office

I have a spreadsheet (Sheet A) with various data and checkboxes that I want to populate based on data in another spreadsheet (Sheet B). Sheet B has various fields with yes/no answers in the cells. I need to take this data and check varius check boxes in Sheet A based on the answers. I think this is possible if I write a macro to sweep through Sheet A to populate everything, but I was wondering if there is an easier way?
I would think there would be a way to set the initial state of a checkbox based on the value of a cell, but I can't seem to find a way to do it.

with the attached spreadsheet?
I want to populate "selections" sheet with data from the previous sheet (it will be the date) depending on the value of a cell in column G. You will see I have already got the data from 27th April into my selections sheet but wondered if it can be done by a formula to save me copy and paste time?

Sheet 1 contains a column titled "name" and 6 columns to the right of name titled "sat", "sun", "mon"........ the col titled name is not the first col in the work sheet.
In each row I enter the guest name under the name col and I enter a room number (example: 1A, 1B, 2A, etc...) in the column to the right that coresponds with the day the guest will be staying.
Name Sat Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri
Mr. Smith 1A 1A 1A 1A
Mr. Jones 3B 3B 3B
Ms. Tiller 4A 4A 4A 4A 4A 4A 4A
Sheet 2 is in the same workbook and looks something like this:
Room # Sat Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri
1A
1B
2A
2B
3A
3B
I want it to look at sheet 1 and populate the date columns with the guest name from sheet 1
I tried this formula =IF('Sheet1'!G:G="1A",'Sheet1!$F:$F,"Available")
It seems to work on the first row but I have problems with any rows below that. Basically it acts like there is no data in the rows below.... I think the fact that the names on sheet 1 are not alphabetical is creating part of my problem? I tried a lookup formula but it seems like it has to be the first column in the worksheet and it has to be alphabetical to work like that.

In this attached example, this is a portion of a actual work procedure. The yellow highlighted cells are the same work element within the master procedure but one is for one type of machine while the other is for same model but added options. This is a pattern throughout the entire worksheet. Basically 1 model with several different types of options. I don't want to have unnecessary elements in a work procedure.
So what I am trying to accomplish, I want to create a userform or dashboard which will allow selection of model #, model type #, then based off those selections have excel populate a worksheet with all correct procedures based off model type choice.
In this example there is 6 model variations, all share same basic procedure, but all have their own work procedure based on options, so my above approach will allow me to make changes to the master procedure only instead of changing 6 procedures.

i have a sheet called 'sample database'. it consists of 56 columns, each with a specific title in row 1. i.e. name, surname, mobile_number, and so on.
from row 2 onwards the data has been populated for roughly 200 rows.
i have another 'Capture Sheet' which has the same titles as 'Sample database' except it's in a different format. its a printable form that is given to new employees when they start. once they have completed it it gets captured into the 'Sample Database' sheet.
my wifes boss now wants 1 new sheet for each row in the 'sample database' sheet based on the format/layout of the 'capture form'.
how can i get the 'capture form' to auto populate the data from the 'sample database' sheet and create a new sheet for each row?
i know this is possible i just dont know how to do it.

I have successfully used the course booking form as a base for an input form in an accounting workbook that has several pages. (Thanks to Roy and others for the info; the course booking form on [url]is the best explained piece I have found on the net)
What I would like to do is use a range of cells to populate the combobox so that a user can make a choice from the account descriptions (from a sheet named Intro, b63:99) and have the form return the account number (Intro, a63:a99) to the relevant cell elsewhere in the workbook. The user would then have meaningful descriptions rather than numbers to choose from.
My coding for the form thus far is as follows.

I have a master sheet that contains all data relating to a particular Agent like Agent Code(Primary Key), Name, Bank details etc so on and so forth. Every month I have to make a new sheet which contains only a few of the columns from the master sheet. I have to manually select and copy each column for the specific agents to whom I have to make the payments. Now, I wanted to know..if there is any way in which I can enter only the Agent Code in the new sheet and it will look the code up in the master and copy the values of the relevant fields from the master to the new sheet.

I have a table in excel with some data to create labels, but these labels must be repeated according to the number of volumes. Example: I have a delivery for X and such delivery has 5 volumes, need to create 5 labels just changing the volume number: 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4/5 5/5.
I would enter a value in "D1" after running the code, in column "A" shall be filled as follows.
D1 = 7
A2 = 1/7
A2 = 2/7
A2 = 3/7
A2 = 4/7
A2 = 5/7
A2 = 6/7
A2 = 7/7
If "D1" equals 3 then
A2 = 1/3
A2 = 2/3
A2 = 3/3

I have contacts list that I made and want to take it to the next level, but don't know how. See attached.
The goal:
1. Highlight an entire row of someone's contact info (i.e. row 9)
2. Click the "ORDER FORM" text box to activate a macro that populates specific cells on the 'order form' sheet with the customer's contact information from the highlighted row. The information I want copied over is in red on the order form sheet. THAT'S IT!! (Oh, and 'paste value' the current date from H5 so that the date is static on the order sheet
If possible, I would like to have an error check in case no row is selected prior to clicking on the text box that pops up the note "Please highlight a contact row before clicking the 'Order Form' button."

I have a user input sheet, where a user will input a process name & its link to the intranet. Next to the process name there is a column that takes the first letter from the process name so it can be used as an index point to transfer to another sheet. The sheet will have processes added all the time.
There is then 1 sheet for each letter of the alphabet. What I need to do is for a macro to run and then copy the name of the process in a cell and put the hyperlink in. Because there will be more than 1 process for each letter it will have to be transferred to different cells.

I've attached an example workbook.
Trip Plan example.xlsx
I'm trying to work out how to have cells R11 - Rxx generate the correct date, based on the rest of the calculations.
Please note that the attached is a crude cut down version of the larger spreadsheet, for the purpose of highlighting my problem.
SO, if E7 is changed, subsequently the values in K11:Rxx will be respectively updated.
D12 and G12 are entered manually. (although I'll probably make these drop downs or date choosers at some point...)
Depending on the value in E7 and time in D12, the required break period is listed in K11: Kxx.
The time that these periods of rest are required to occur before is then calculated and listed in O11:Oxx.
I need R11:Rxx to calculated the appropriate date from these calculations, relative to the date in G12.
For example, the rest required in K11, is required on the same day, as such it need to populate with the value in G12.
However the rest required in K13:Kxx, is required by a time (O13:Oxx) on the following day - G12+1
In some case, this time variance could run over 2 or more days.
I figure it's got something to do with the value in D12 also including the date of 0/1/1900.
I'm happy to add hidden cells for formulas/results to work around it, as the end product will print as an A4 document, where many cells will be locked.
Would prefer not go with any VBA unless it's my only option as I haven't done any VBA stuff as yet.
NB (the value in P5 is static only in this example)

value4
value5
I then have 5 additional sheets.
I want to populate cell D2 on each additional sheet with the values from Sheet1
Sheet2 - Value1 in "D2"
Sheet3 - Value2 in "d2"
and so on...

I am attempting to populate a row of several cells on a worksheet using a drop-down list, using data from a seperate worksheet in the same workbook. The worksheet containing the data will be hidden (I do not think that matters in this case). Do I place a VLOOKUP function in the first worksheet cells? see attached sample
DropDownSample.xls
As a follow-up question, as time goes by, the data in the source worksheet will be appended with new items (additional rows of data). As each new item is added, will I need to edit the formulas, or is there a way for Excel to dynamically add the new data? This might be stretching my wish list a bit but I thought I'd ask.

This file is far from finished so there is some useless stuff there. What I'm interested in is in the sheet RecapTable (and in Etiq1 to Etiq4).
I'd like to write a macro that'll populate my Etiq1 -> 4 according to the RecapTable. Data would be set up as in Etiq1 A1:A3.
I don't have to have 4 template sheets and it could change if it's easier to do something else. The goal is to print labels so I maybe only 1 Etiq is needed, and the macro could populate, print, erase, finish populating, print again
1. Count entries in RecapTable (found something that does that! yeey!)
n = Worksheets("RecapTable").Range("A:A").Cells.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeConstants).count
((2. Divide that by 65 (which is the number of labels per sheet) and round at upper number. For example: if n=100, 100/65 = 1.54 so 2 sheets needed)) [maybe a useless thing to do]
[Assuming I only populate 2 cells]
If v is the row# in RecapTable,
If w is the column# in RecapTable,
If x is the row# in Etiq,
If y is the column# in Etiq,
v=1, w=1, x=1
[code].....

I have a spreadsheet which I need to populate the data from sheet based on current date. Cell C7 in the "Staff" tab needs to update from tab "Data" for John based on the current date . The current date is located in cell A3 in the "Staff" tab.
On daily basis, as I open the spreadsheet , cell C7 should update from the "Data" tab automatically based on the date in cell A3 in the "Staff" tab. Example, on January 4 2008, cell C7 should populate as 2 from the "Data" tab. I tried using the IF formula, but I cant expand the formula for the whole month of January since it is limited only to 7 arguments.

not sure if this is possible but can you populate cells on one tab based on data from a specifc tab.
For example say I have 3 tabs, Summary, Old & New. So if I had a drop down box in the Summary tab that had the options of Old & New and based on which is selected it will populate from the approporiate tab.

I'm creating a configuration tool for instrumentation that has several options. Many of these options are dependent on one another. To summarize, I need to:
*Conditionally lock cells (and populate with "N/A") OR allow selection from drop down list - the list exists, it's the locking and auto-population I'm struggling with
Example: If A1 = No, then B1 = "N/A" and is locked, else allow selection from drop down list in B1

Is it possible to be able to select a range of dates, and a time interval, and then to automatically fill in cells in a column? to be more specific, I want to be able to select, say 1 Jan 2013 to 31 dec 2013 in one box, then specify a time interval, for example "hourly" and then a column is populated with each interval, i.e. 1 jan 2013 00:00, and then the next one is 1 jan 2013 01:00 etc. I have tired the normal automatic fill tool but it never seems to get it right. It works for the first few days then it all goes funny.

wish to write an VB macro in Excel (2003) that populates a 6 row by 10 column matrix (for a 3 D graph) by inserting values from matrix row column headers in cells in another worksheet and using goal seek to derive a value which will be pasted in the respective cell in the 6X10 matrix
Specific example: Matrix (Row Headers A2 to A7, Column Headers B1 to K1, Cell values are in B2 to K7). Please note row and column headers are numerical values since this is for a 3D graph
Macro to be written
Pick a value (numerical) from row header A3 in Sheet A and paste it in cell B6 in another sheet (Sheet B). Pick anothet value (numerical) from column header D1 in Sheet A and paste it in cell B7 in Sheet B.
Run a goal seek scenario such that cell S10 in sheet B is equal to 50 by changing cell G8 in Sheet B
Copy the value chosen/optimised by Goal Seek from cell G8 in Sheet B and paste it in Cell D3 (which is the relevant cell for the values for intersection of headers A3 and D1) in Sheet A
Macro should populate all cells in the matrix in Sheet A (matrix cells to be populated are B2 to K7) in a similar fashion
The macro should be locked in to the cells which are either being copied from or pasted into so that it still references them even if new columns or rows are inserted.
